Classic Tuxedo

A friend and I needed a tuxedo for New Years and they were terrific. Very quick turnaround. We were helped by Michelangelo and he went above and beyond. Very helpful and knowledgeable about what would look good for our event. Would highly recommend.

My wife and I went to classic tuxedo last February to set up an account for our wedding in October. We had a very good experience while seeking up the account and were happy that it was one more thing we could check off the to do last for the wedding… that’s where the good experience ended.
In August, my groomsmen finally started getting fitted for tuxes and we knew that since they only have a few locations that I would have to pick up some of the rentals. However, they did have locations in Maine which is where a few of my groomsmen live. My brother went to the location closest to him which he found out at that time was closed but a new tux place was there now so they took his measurements and he was able to call them in along with his deposit and told the rep on the phone that he would pick up in the Portland, ME location on his way down. My dad then went to what used to be the Portland location a few days later to get measured only to discover that this location was closed! After frantically calling the Boston office, they had said these locations closed the previous November, even though I mentioned many times when we first set up the account that members of the party would be picking up there. Also, how was my brother supposed to pick up in Portland if there was no location? After a phone call and some emails, they did agree to refund my original deposit and my brother’s deposit that was placed over the phone. However, it took another two months, multiple emails and phone calls to finally see this money. Save yourself the hassle and go to men’s wearhouse. Much better company.

Michelangelo was amazing! My boyfriend and I were in from out of town and needed a tuxedo for a wedding. Came into the store Wednesday around 5pm and the tux was ready the next day by 2:30 pm. He was very professional and so easy to work with.
Will definitely recommend to any who needs a tux!

Absolute garbage product and equally bad people. They had my because I came from out of town but if I had a choice I would have walked out the door. Don’t believe any lies about a modern fit over the phone. The tuxs are old and in bad shape. Pants looked like I was going to a 90s rave. Crazy overpriced garbage from garbage people for a garbage price.

Go somewhere else. Anywhere else. This was categorically the worst experience I’ve ever had renting a tuxedo, by far.
I went in for an initial appointment to get my measurements taken about 2 months before I needed my tuxedo. When I went in, 3 days before I was supposed to leave for the wedding I was in, my jacket was 3 sizes too large, my shirt was 2 inches too long, my pants were 3 inches too long and my shoes were the wrong size. Nothing was even close.
I ended up having to return the next day and the day after that in order to get something that sort of resembled a «fit».
The tuxedos are falling apart and boxy, probably about 20 – 30 years old. The shoes/​suspenders look like something you’d buy at Party City for a Halloween costume.
To top it off, the employees are completely apathetic.
Like I said, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

My wife and I got married in September 2012 and we hired Classic Tuxedo to bring a photo booth. Everything went great at the wedding and we had a lot of fun with the props they brought. However, upon review of the photo album they game us, we noticed that they misspelled September, The date and our names were the only words on the picture strip. It is on every single picture in our photo album and every copy of each picture our guests took home. My wife contacted Jeremiah and he said that they could fix it. They would send the pictures to India and have them photoshopped/​corrected. Turns out they lost the pictures and we waited patiently for them to fix and never did. After more than a year of them going back and forth Classic Tuxedo agreed to send us a check for half of the cost we paid. They said that we still have a thumbdrive with all the pictures on them and we could reprint (out of our pockets) and send them to our guests (out of our pocket). My wife was so sick and tired of the runaround that we got that she agreed to accept it. When she told me I was disgusted. This was our wedding day, a favor for our guests that was ruined by this company. My wife finally gave me Jeremiahs contact information and I have now called more than 6 times, rarely getting to speak with Jeremiah, who apparently is the only person who can do anything there, instead hearing from a very unhappy person names Brian who is far less than helpful and an absolutely miserable person to deal with over the phone. Each time they told me there is nothing they can do, nobody else to talk to. It is now almost 16 months later and we are still stuck with screwed up, embarrassing photo booth pictures, with no hope of anything being resolved.
I am shocked by Classic Tuxedo’s careless attitude regarding our situation and will NEVER use them again, and I would absolutely recommend TO NOT use this company. My sister, sister-​in-​law, and a few other friends are all engaged now and looking for similar services, and they will all be told NOT to hire Classic Tuxedo.

I don’t understand the poor reviews? I don’t often write reviews but the amazing and professional service we received at the Newbury St. location by Jeremiah Wilson was above and beyond to say the least. Every tux we required was seen to by him personally and we couldn’t have asked for better support.
He even included an extra shirt for my tux in case I sweat through it because of the heat in the late summer! Everything was personally handled by him and our experience there was nothing short of the best I have had in any formal attire rental situation (and I was the groom).
I can’t reconcile these bad reviews, maybe it was someone else that was working there at the time, or another location but thanks Jeremy! You were the best!

I just completed my initial fitting for a tuxedo rental and was not happy with how tremendously baggy the pant legs and seat were. The store associate initially claimed «that’s how tuxedo pants are supposed to fit,» which is certainly false, only later admitting that the store does not carry alternative pant sizes and that they simply adjust the pant length. In other words, he recognized they fit poorly, but there was nothing he could do about it.
For a store that claims a «classic fit guarantee,» I find it unacceptable that they carry one tuxedo pant for customers of all sizes/​heights without any means to make corrections or alterations for pants that fit poorly. What is the point of an initial fitting if there is nothing that can be done about a poor fitting? I was very dissatisfied with the outcome of my rental and think that customers deserve better for the $ 230 charge.

Just rented a tux from these guys over the weekend for a friends wedding. There were 8 tuxedos in all to be rented. Everyone got fitted in the store.
Three groomsmen were given the wrong shoes. They were unable to get the same shoes for everyone in time for the wedding.
Three shirts were comically short in the sleeve, and remarkably girthy for the individuals. They would fit a morbidly obese Oompa Loompa.
Two jackets did not fit appropriately (again, very short sleeves).
Some of the tuxedos had holes in them. I watched a groomsman try to figure out how his cufflink made it through the slit in his jacket. Not because it was supposed to, but because there was a tear in the sleeve, and he thought that’s what it was for.
When the groom rose issues with the amount of errors, the guy working there made it seem like it would be a big deal to get the order out to the depot. You know, after he had just screwed ⁶⁄₈ fittings and tuxedos up.
It would have been worth it to spend an extra $ 50 not to deal with the laughable quality of tuxedos, service, and a 75% error rate.
When we did get exchanges for the jackets and shirts, virtually every person had had to exchange something, and 4 out of 8 people were rocking too short of sleeves, the wrong shoes, or holes in their jacket. Nothing says like you eat out of the finest dumpsters with tears in your tux.
Go anywhere else.

This is one of those instances, where it seems really unfair that you can’t leave 0 stars. I wish I’d checked out reviews before I chose to use Classic Tuxedo, but in my naïveté I thought, how bad can an tuxedo rental place be. I mean I only needed two matching suits for the guys in my wedding. I don’t even care for them to be that nice, I just want them to match. What tux shop can’t get you two matching suits??? Classic Tuxedo.
So, I guess the logical place to start is the suits didn’t even match! Even better, Classic Tuxedo lied to the guys in my wedding, and CLAIMED that they told me that the suits didn’t match and that I okay’d it. That is 100% B.S. I don’t like to talk on the phone, so they would have to either e-​mail me or leave me a message, and they did neither. And there is no way in the world I would have okay’d that. These guys own their own suits, if I wanted suits that didn’t match, I would have had them wear their own suits, and save everyone some cash.
Not only did the suits not match, one suit didn’t even fit. I’ll admit, one of the guys is a pretty big dude, but I told Classic Tuxedo that from the beginning, and they said, no worries, we can definitely fit him. Well they failed at that. Instead of admitting to a mistake, the guy in the shop (not Jeremiah, I can’t remember his name right now), actually just got on the phone with me (my friend called me when he ran into trouble in their store 1 day before the wedding), and insisted that the suit fit and that my friend was crazy and lying to me. So I made my friend come to my apartment so that I could check the fit of the jacket. As someone who wears suits for a living, I can tell you that it absolutely did not, in any possible way, fit.
Oh, I had also hoped that they would have a little matching suit for my ring bearer. They told me, they did this as well. They told me that my little 2-​year-​old ring bearer could buy a matching suit. How cute! Also a lie. In a 2T, they only had a black tux. Ugh. That would be cute if anyone else were wearing a tux, but at our tux– free wedding, that’s just stupid. So, now, after picking a suit, I had to find another suit for my ring bearer, every bride knows that you just need more work to do when planning your wedding.
Those are only the top three problems that Classic Tuxedo caused me. In the end, the guy who’s tux didn’t fit, wore a suit that he owned instead and Classic Tuxedo was a complete waste of time and money for everyone.

It has been several months since I have tried to resolve my issue of an unwearable tuxedo I rented where the pants were broken. I was told I only needed to try on the suit coat since the pants were adjustable. So when I get the pants they werent and were unable to wear. So I called right away, got vm and left a message. Never got a call back. When I went to return it, and said I was unable to wear it and luckily had brought another suit so was able to wear that. I asked to speak with Jaramia the manager. He wasnt in of course as said to call back wednesday. Wasnt able to reach him. Called following week and spoke to him to resolve. He said it would be another week for him to look into it. It has been almost 3 months and I have called every week and he is never there or it goes to vmail. Next step is small claims court and bashing them all over the web if Jaramia doesnt get this resolved and credit me back for this major inconvenience in the next week. Do not rent for this guy. Terrible service and even insinuated I was lying when I told him about the problem. One more week and this is going to get UGLY for him.

I interacted with Jeremiah. His apathy was very off putting given that I’d like to look my best for my wedding. Nonetheless I thought I would go for a rental and see how they do before A) getting my own tux and B) having my groom’s men rent their tuxes from the place.
I had to get my tux by Wednesday, as I was flying on Thursday. I went Wednesday night, a half an hour before they close, and the tux wasn’t there. Another person, a lady who didn’t introduce herself, said: «come back first thing (they open at 10 AM) and it would be ready.» She also said I would get a «Credit» on my account. I came back the morning of my flight and to my dismay it wasn’t there. I had to walk around Newbury St. for an hour and a half before my tux got there.
So in the end I nearly missed my flight, and they offered a 10 $ credit on a 220 $ rental. I told them that it seamed rather meager and actually somewhat unfair given that their fine print says that if I were to be late, they would charge a 40 $ late fee.
I got to my destination, and the tux was very very poor quality. No pocket square, the tie was beat up, the pants had a hole in them, and the shoes were worn down to the sole. This tux, or the pieces of it, have been worn probably north of 100 times.
Needless to say I will not be back and they have lost my business, and hopefully yours.

So, I should have known that the lackluster, unenthusiastic interactions I had with one of the guys (Jeremy or something?) should have indicated I probably should have gone elsewhere. The other guy was actually enthusiastic and helpful. Unfortunately, I think the blasé, «I have better things to do than take your money» guy is in charge.
In short– inattentive to detail, piss-​poor quality control, would never recommend this place to anyone unless they stole my fiancée. Go elsewhere. Go to a freaking MALL.
And someone, please, hire the one nicer guy away from there– he shouldn’t be out of a job because his employer sucks.

I had a wedding to attend, so I went to Classic Tux on Newbury Street, in Boston. Two hours after my fitting, I called to say that because the wedding was not black tie, I would not be renting the tux, after all.
The store ended up charging my credit card the full $ 245.
When I called the store, to dispute on Monday, I was told that they had to check with their billing department. I am still without a call back from the store, 4 days later. And now, each time I call, I am told the manager just stepped out.
Be very very careful should you require any logistical billing services with this merchant!!!

Had to cancel due to illness 48 hours before pickup and wouldn’t give me a credit — Policy does say 72 hours, none the less makes me think these guys are greedy as hell. Please go to some other store this place is not customer friendly and they just bought $ 116 worth of bad public relations.

Let me preface this by warning that this review is about all of my encounters with Classic Tuxedo, both with the now-​defunct Harvard Square location and the Newbury Street location. The Harvard Square location sold me a 3 tux package, promising they were the longest-​standing tux rental shop in Cambridge so there was no chance they’d close down. About 8 months later… you guessed it… CLOSED.
Anyways, let’s be honest — it’s really not that hard to be a decent tuxedo shop.
1) Stock some nice looking tuxedos.
2) Hire decent staff.
3) Do what you say you’re going to do.
4) Have decent prices.
Classic Tuxedo pretty much falls flat on all accounts. They stock a pretty lackluster assortment of tuxedos, mostly low to mid tier brands. So, even when the prices seem low when they run a special, you’re really just getting a decent deal on a low-​end tux. Also, the last pair of shoes I got looked like they just got them in the bargain barrel at Goodwill. He actually apologized for the quality, but it was the better looking of the two pairs they had in size 12 (pretty standard size). My tie was also completely messed up, but I didn’t notice until I put it on right before my event, so I couldn’t change it up. It’s a black tie — how hard is it to find one that looks respectable???
The staff is pretty awful. I’ve rented there 3 times, and twice I’ve had to demand they send back the tux and get the correct size sent to me (usually it arrives mere hours before the event). I really don’t think taking measurements are that hard.
Classic Tuxedo pretty clearly doesn’t care about service. First, service was always horrendous at Harvard Square, and it’s really not much better on Newbury. I’m not sure what the point of having really expensive real estate is when your staff sits around doing paperwork and makes you wait 10 minutes to get a simple measurement. Really??? Also, this Sunday the Newbury street store opened 10 minutes late when I was waiting to return my tux, which was pretty annoying.
Their prices aren’t awful, but I’d reference back to point #1. If you’re paying $ 100 – 140 for a tuxedo, at least have good merchandise. If any tuxedo shop in the city should have top-​shelf tuxes (regardless of price), it should be the one located on Newbury!
Conclusion: Think long and hard before going to Classic Tuxedo. You’re going to look like you went to Keezer’s and pay about twice. And then you’ll have to deal with their abysmal staff.

This is my first time ever writing at *1 Star* review … I stopped into Classic Tuxedo to get fitted for a slim tuxedo. I had called all around Boston to locate one, and they are the only ones who said they had one that would fit my slim, tall frame. I went in to get measured, and showed up three weeks later to pick it up.
Upon picking it up, the man working there said «Do you want to try it on? You can, but is is sort of a waste seeing as we can’t do anything about it anyways …» I took the garment bag and went home. As I was getting ready, I noticed that the shirt was a size medium — i don’t even fit into smalls at most stores, let alone a medium. The tuxedo jacket has a pull in the right shoulder and the cumberbun was too large to fit around my waist despite the adjustable closure. The pants, oh the pants, which could have housed all three rings of the Big Apple circus, looked ridiculous on me. Then, the shoes, which looked like something advertised in the back of AARP were not the ones I had specified, the left of which was separating from the sole of the shoe.
I subbed the tuxedo shirt out for one that I had from my old tuxedo (too large due to recent weight loss) which was still too big, but looked more appropriate. The shoes went unworn thanks to a stop at American Apparel, who had some shiny kicks. I pinned and tucked the cumberbun and used my own bowtie.
When I returned the (mostly) unworn rental, I told the man working of the issues. He blamed the dry cleaners for the holes, the fact that I am oddly too skinny (what?) for the shirt and cumberbun and then said that he’d never seen shoes separate from the sole as they were doing …

Did you all know that Classic Tuxedo has added a photography department also? Well they do. Before I begin my tirade, allow me to make a disclaimer: This all could have been avoided had I followed my gut, better informed myself, and checked out Unilocal before leaving my house.
PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES I DID. RUN, DO NOT WALK, AWAY FROM CLASSIC TUXEDO/​PHOTOGRAPHY AND JEREMIAH WILSON!
My fiancée and I have six months to go before our wedding. We’ve been in contract with Classic Tuxedo/​Photographers since October 2010. I have been nothing but annoyed, frustrated, and enraged by my dealings with Jeremiah Wilson, the manager. He does not listen well, even when all your dealings are in writing via email. Everything is «I’ll make a note in your file.» Perhaps he makes a note, but then I think he shreds them.
My complaints in summary:
#1 — I honestly think Jeremiah Wilson might be an idiot.
#2 — We were lied to/​misled regarding our photography package.
#3 — We have yet to meet our photographer, or even get a simple phone call or email from him.
#4 — Our concerns regarding complaint #3 have been blown off, and Jeremiah quotes the «notes in your file,» which are inaccurate. Jeremiah doesn’t even attempt to make us feel like he cares about our concerns and is actively trying to resolve them.
I realize it was stupid on our part to a) not confirm all discussed details were in writing in the contract and b) sign said contract without having met the photographer. Having said that, this place is terrible. Go somewhere else. No one needs the stress while planning their wedding.

For my fitting, the associate stank of cigarette smoke which was quite unpleasant. He did the basic walk through of the outfits on mannequins and then when I was not excited with those, he handed my the catalog. They do not have many suits on site and so you have to go on faith that the tux will fit. The tux did fit but I received the wrong tie and ended up using one of my own. I have not rented a tux in a long while but $ 200 seemed a little steep to me. Next time I am buying a vintage tux, getting it customed tailored and avoiding this place.

A decent tuxedo rental store, conveniently on Newbury Street, and with locations all over Massachusetts. The staff was pretty helpful as well — I got fitted in San Francisco (where I live) and then faxed in my measurements. When I went into Classic Tuxedo to try on my suit, the jacket was a little too big, but they were great about finding me a better fitting one with plenty of time to spare.
I had to leave on Sunday to fly back to SF, so my one wish is that there would be some way to drop off your tux — like a video rental slot — during non-​business hours.
One final note — while I don’t mind renting — you are much better off investing in a great tuxedo. I own one (had to rent to match the rest of the wedding party) and have worn it on numerous occasions. It’s custom fit too, so you look dashing. You can still go for different looks with ties, bow-​ties, cufflinks. But I digress…
