Specialties
Bayridge is a student residence that feels more like home than a large impersonal dorm. It provides an enriching environment by hosting residents from all over the world, who attend colleges and universities throughout Boston and whose studies range from engineering to law and from music to medicine. Bayridge provides 16 home-cooked meals weekly, as well as weekly linen service, full furnished room and wireless internet.
History
Established in 1959.
A not-for-profit women’s student residence and cultural center, Bayridge first opened its doors in 1959. It was initially located on Exeter Street in the Back Bay of Boston. In the early ‘60s, because of growing demand for student housing for women, Bayridge relocated to a larger, two-building facility at 395 Commonwealth Ave.
Bayridge has always been open to women students who aspire to do well in their studies and develop themselves as persons of moral and ethical integrity in a family-like environment of academic enthusiasm and social outreach. As a cultural center, Bayridge seeks to strengthen and support that part of today’s culture which is eminently positive, pro-woman, and pro-community, and it opens its doors to the public for frequent lectures, conferences and concerts.
Meet the Manager
Irene D.
Manager
Irene lived here at Bayridge while she was obtaining her masters in music at the New England Conservatory. After a few years of teaching music and working in music publishing, Irene began dedicating herself full time to her passion: fostering development and leadership in young women. She has held a number of positions, including director of Petawa Residence in Milwaukee, WI; director of Alderton House in New York City; and director of Rosedale Achievement Center in the Bronx, NY. Then, in 2003, she returned to her beloved «home away from home» and has been the director ever since. She enjoys organizing jam session with the musically-inclined residents and has a special love for book clubs and discussion-worthy movies.
