Boise Community Radio – Radio Boise

There are some who believe that radio is dead as a medium. I say that is not so.
For a community radio station, they have done what radio was intended to do — create exposure for bands trying to get known. I have gotten to know several great local and national groups, most of whom have never received any airplay on any of the corporate stations. Another major plus for this station is the fact they have LIVE people in the studio who create a personalized touch that you can connect with. None of whom receive any compensation, instead they are volunteers.
Their talk shows also offer a much-​needed alternative to the «get angry with my loud voice» and «agree with me or you’re an idiot» hosting style that is the norm of news/​talk personalities nowadays. On another note, «Democracy Now», as great of a program as it is, just sounds strange over the radio. It is produced for television, and some of the dialogue doesn’t make sense without seeing what they are talking about.
Needless to say, this is a long-​overdue and welcome change to our radio scene.

It’s comforting to know that it doesn’t take a corporate owned radio station to produce good programming. Boise Community Radio is proof that local community members can create insightful, fun, and unique entertainment that caters to the tastes of our local populace.
Obviously some of the music and DJ’s weren’t to my tastes; but the mix of music and talk/​news radio seemed to work on the whole. It struck me that there was a slightly excessive amount of folksy, country-​ish music; but if that’s what Boise is listening to these days then it’s merely a reflection of the musical preferences of our community. Uh oh!
I give them 4 stars, for being a positive member of our community and a solid, enjoyable radio station. There’s always room for improvement however, and their website (and portal to their internet broadcast) is rather bland and boring.

This is a great community based nonprofit radio stations. I have lived in bigger cities and around other public/​community radio stations and this one has great ideas for the future. They are an all-​volunteer staffed station broadcasting on-​line ²⁴⁄₇. I hear they’re raising money to get on the FM airwaves so they need our support so we can have a different form of radio in this area! They play more independent labels than any station in the Treasure Valley, more local music and more media democracy and issues shows. Something we need here!
