Closets By Design – Long Island

Closets By Design… Great service, beautiful closets, top notch quality. Installation was flawless. Very reasonably priced. I cannot be happier. I have such a pleasant, good experience with them. Everything is perfect. I would definitely recommend them to my family and friends.

This is a preliminary review. We have an install date starting Monday, November 16^th.
We had the pleasure of meeting with Daniel, who took measurements twice and was very meticulous. We also were requested to meet at their location in Deer Park in addition to the two meetings at the job site. Our last meeting was on October 23^rd.
We did receive a message on November 11^th, just six days before installation: «We no longer provide mirrors and we didn’t charge you for it.» This was way after we gave a deposit and finalized everything. Now they want an additional $ 168 to fill the original space where the mirror was supposed to go by installing a «mirror ready» door. Then we will have to pay for a separate mirror and install it afterwards. We found this very inconvenient due to the short notice in proximity to install.
We are really hoping the project goes smoothly and contradicts some of the reviews here on Unilocal.
We will be back on here after to give a detailed report with images and an updated rating.
********UPDATE********
8AM received a call saying the install needed to be postponed since some items were incomplete due to a machine issue. Rescheduled for tomorrow.

I had read all the reviews and was a little skeptical but gave it a chance anyway meet with Colleen the designer and she was great and addressed all my concerns. The installers showed up on time and did great work and we are very happy with our new closet.

Great service and great people. We love our closets they’re beautiful. We had such a good experience with the employees. Amazing staff. Specifically the hooks they put in look perfect. Would definitely recommend to friends!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I should have listened to everything written here (and on Angie’s List) but of course, I thought it would be different. The initial consultation had us pretty confident. We even added additional closets onto the initial project that we had hired them for. After spending almost $ 3000 we are left with HOLES in our walls– GAPING HOLES. They said that a minor ‘tear down’ clause in the contract freed them of any liability. We now have closets we cannot use because we have to hire another company to remove the units and repair the holes in our walls and then replace the units again. We are newlyweds and new homeowners and of course don’t have the money. We kept contacting the company– tried to be very civil. The customer service manager REFUSES to talk to us and said it does not matter if they left us with damage, we should have expected some damage and that it is reasonable to leave us with this mess. We will be contacting the better Business Bureau, the LI Chamber of Commerce and I have been in contact with another customer of theirs that had to bring their case with this company to the NYC district attorneys office! Please stay away. If any one wants pics of the damage they did to our (new) home– please feel free to reply with your email. I hope to help anyone I can avoid the situation we found ourselves in :(

Had a good experience with the designer really– the only thing I have to complain is that the day they were supposed to come do the installation of my home office, they did not complete and the second time for them to show up, they never did neither they called me, so I was moving things up and down my office. So finally was given a date to come and finish! But they are the cheapest company out her in LI so that helps them.

I’d like to review their work but I’ll never have the chance to see it. The sales person/​designer came into my home and measured. As soon as she found out that I was getting another estimate, and that she wouldn’t be getting a deposit, she became rude and ran out the door. When she followed up (which I was surprised she did), she didn’t know the details of our meeting and suggested we go somewhere else to have the work done. It wasn’t a very big job – just a small walkin but really… there’s no reason to be rude. There are plenty of closet designers on Long Island. My suggestion is that you look elsewhere. AND, shame on me for not coming to check the reviews on Unilocal – could have saved myself an unpleasant experience.

We had an appointment for a consultation today and the person has yet to show up. Another example of their poor customer service. I haven’t even gotten a courtesy call as to why they are late and when we might expect them. I’m highly offended. Needless to say, we won’t be using them!

It’s been horrible negotiating with them. First the couldn’t schedule installation unless they had a second job in Manhattan the same day. Had to schedule on a day which wasn’t great for me, but ok.
Then they arrived 2 ½ hours late. The two men were nice, but one was obviously just learning. By 4:30 when they had to leave the building, they were about two thirds finished. When I called the office, they wouldn’t give me a return time.
I’m sitting here with two large closets worth of stuff piled up in the living room.

Customer service poor still waiting for them to come back, they won’t let me know when they can put me on a schedule. They took my $ 3100. But don’t know when they can come back! Closets were not custom to our clothes that designer seen. Installer had to go back to shop to recut. Measurements were not right. Installer both told me that the person who did my measurement has screw up on all clients.

Everything about my experience with this company has been great! I worked with Colleen and Kelly as designers for different projects — I loved them both have had them build all of my closets, pantry, laundry room, and home office over the past year.
At first I was just looking to have my master closet built and I met with several closet companies. Closets By Design was the most affordable and they made me feel so comfortable. I decided to go with them and I am so glad I did.
The first installation went great. The installers were so professional and respectful of my home. The master closet came out beautiful and I knew I could trust them with every other space in my home. Each time I have gone back to them I have been very happy. Even my short conversations with the office staff have been so helpful.
I strongly recommend this company. My home would still be an unorganized disaster without them. It amazing how much better you can utilize a closet than just having wire racks — not to mention how much better my home looks. My next project is the garage and of course it will be with them!

Just to clarify, I am reviewing the correct place and I stand by my previous review. Stay away!
