Fernando’s Bed And Breakfast

Just came from here! My husband’s cousin booked the place for her wedding. We stayed here for a weekend and it was great! The dogs weren’t a nuisance at all. The bigger one was actually afraid of people. Fernando was on site ready to help. He gave us a tour of the place. The kiddos loved the chicken coop and rabbits. We hung and relaxed outside. Fernando cooked really good breakfast for us. I wish the wifi worked but that’s not even a problem. Being disconnected from the Internet was refreshing. Overall, it was a really good experience. Fernando was so nice and accommodating.

I can’t believe I forgot to write a review! I had my wedding at Fernando’s 9÷21÷2013. We had our reception there and the ceremony at St. Teresa of Avila church up the street. Fernando and his family were so accommodating and amazing to all our guests. I couldn’t have asked for a better day or a better host. The food was amazing, the party went all night and our families were very comfortable in his beautiful home. Yes, he has 3 big dogs but they are incredibly sweet and he kindly housed them away from the party at our request. His business is a labor of love and he will carefully choose who he invites into his home. Fernando and my dad hit it off right away which was a hoot! We had fresh eggs for breakfast and smoked meats for our reception. The kids loved all the bunnies and birds on his property… we even had vegetables from his garden at our dinner. We were on a tight budget and our wedding was the best day of our lives, in big part to Fernando. Thank you!

Fernando was a really nice guy, and told me about his decision to close his hobby business with the bed and breakfast.
This may be one of those places that have been loved to death!

I’m going to do a small update after reading others’ reviews. The dog situation when we went was a tiny bit intimidating, and I forgot to mention that. I’m a dog person, so it didn’t bug me, but in spring 2012 they had a new dog on site who was still «finding his place in the pack» and I have to admit I was a little cautious of the dogs in general, as they are helping to guard the place and take their job seriously. There were no incidents and they mostly chilled and hung out after they had barked a little. Just wanted to mention it since it was part of our experience.

What a wonderful find in the Bodega Bay area. Fernando is an amazing host. My husband and I were there just for one night (a rarity to find a B&B that will let you only book one night) and I wish we could have stayed for longer.
The house itself is beautiful and modern. The rooms comfortable, the beds nice and snuggly, and the great room has plenty of places to sit and relax.
The grounds are also beautiful and have an old world country kind of charm about them. Fernando’s place is just about fully sustainable and that is a huge part of what makes it so unique.
This is not a snooty place; Fernando is very down to earth and friendly. It’s everything that a B&B should be. You feel right at home when you walk in the door, it’s moderately priced, and you get some amazing food in the morning to get you started on your day.
I will stay here again anytime I find myself in the area.

I feel like my husband and I didn’t get to have the fabulous experience that everyone else raved about here on Unilocal.When we arrived 3 dogs came running up to us and one of the dogs continued to growl at me and my husband.
We didn’t get a tour of the property like other people mentioned in their reviews and there were no complimentary appetizers in the mid day.
We were the first to arrive so we were able to pick which room we wanted. The bed /​pillows were very comfortable but we had some trouble with the ammenties, ie the tv wouldn’t turn on and it took forever for us to figure out how to turn on the a/​c; we couldn’t leave the sliding glass door open because there was no screen.
Also when you are in your room, you can hear clear as day the conversations that are taking place downstairs and the dogs bark in the middle of the night.
Fernando was very friendly and the breaskfast was very good. We even learned some great cooking tips. Great conversation.
I feel like it was a huge let down, not because of Fernando but because of Unilocal’s reviews — almost every review is 4 or 5 stars. I’m surprised that no one mentioned the dogs — my husband is a dog person, I however don’t do well with dogs that growl at me and block me from going in the front door.
Unfortunately we won’t come back.

The hospitality, food and accomedations were all excellent. Fernando and his wife made us feel like we’re old friends coming over for a weekend visit.

My husband and I stayed here for one night on a trip up the coast. Fernando and his wife Marivone were amazing hosts. The inn is beautiful and they treated us like old friends. Make sure you get a tour of the whole property. The grounds are beautiful and it was fun to see the chickens, rabbits, and to pet the cats and dogs. We’ll definitely be coming back!

My boyfriend and I loovvee this place. Fernando and his family are very nice and professional. The rooms and property are beautiful. The beds are really comfortable. Fernando cooks up some great breakfast in the morning from his chickens. The vegetables he grows in his garden, next time we are going to have the actual dinner at Fernandos. We heard from multiple people in bodega bay he is a amazing cook.
If you want a fun night of eating and drinking go to Oyster Rockefeller. Probably 5 miles south and great food and drinks. Get the Pimms#1.

My husband found this on the internet when we realized we had an extra day left on the end of our honeymoon and nowhere to go. SO glad he found it. We were a little nervous because we knew nothing about it — though the reviews were so good!
We will be back to this place, definitely!
First I have to say that Fernando and his wife, Marivone, are just the most wonderful people! When you are there, you feel like you’ve been invited to a good friend’s home. The conversation was lively and interesting; the food… there isn’t a word to describe how wonderful the food was; the ground were immaculate and very smartly organized; the room and the bed were so comfortable we didn’t want to leave; and the dogs were outstanding! :) They greet you as you come in.
Fernando’s B & B is actually Fernando and Marivone’s home! They have 3 rooms that they rent out. While we were there, there were two other couples as well, and we enjoyed everyone’s company immensely. What a wonderful way to end our honeymoon!
The food… the food, the food, the FOOD! Appetizers and wine aplenty, huge breakfast, delicious dinner!
We were so impressed with the efficiency of this place, as well as the beauty. It is eco-​friendly, and they grow so many of their own fruits and vegetables. They also have chickens and rabbits, and collect all their own eggs. Almost forgot — one duck living with the chickens!
We felt like we could’ve just tagged along with Fernando all day. He makes you remember that life is just all good, and that it’s so important to take the time to enjoy it every moment you can.
Can’t WAIT to go back!

Extremely friendly hosts. Welcoming environment. Fernando and Marivone are very good at what they do. They’re also close to the town of Bodega, and some of the locations used in Hitchcock’s The Birds. Cool for film buffs and Hitch fans.
An added bonus: probably the only B+B in the extended Bay Area that doesn’t have a two-​night minimum on weekends*, which makes a quick get-​away easy and affordable.

I’m sorry it has taken me so long to write a review! I had my wedding at Fernando’s on May 28, 2011. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. It was beautiful. Fernando and Marivone are amazing and know how to run an event. The grounds made for gorgeous photos and the food was perfect. Guests drank Portuguese wine and beer. We devoured home made pizzas, smoked salmon and amazing pressed potatoes.
Every room in the Inn was booked for out of state family and friends. Fernando even provided a huge fresh breakfast for everyone the next morning. My family and my husbands family got to spend quality time meeting each other in such an amazing place. I owe it all to Fernando and Marivone. Thank you so much!

After having driven by many times, we were very happy to have the opportunity to stay at this wonderful inn. Fernando, Marivone and Sammy are all delightful. The rooms are beautiful, spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast was a feast prepared by Fernando himself. We sat at the bar, watched him cook and chatted up a storm before enjoying a symphony of fresh ingredients. These folks know the meaning of hospitality. We are looking forward to another visit!

I’ve never been so excited to take a trip within California in my whole entire life. I just spoke with Fernando and he is one of the nicest people I’ve encountered. We will be going for labor day weekend! Post stay write up to come!

Great hosts. Beautiful property. Excellent breakfast (and dinner!). We really enjoyed our stay here with our 3yo. The place is completely kid-​friendly and our boy had such fun watching the chickens, rabbits, and doggies.
The only thing is that be aware you’ll be staying in the same house as the family, so expect family/​relatives drama. Other than that, definitely a GREAT place to stay in the Bodega Bay area!

Just spent a girls weekend @ Fernando’s… What a wonderful retreat for 5 busy working women… Nothing to think about other than where to play & when to nap… Everything was amazing, fernando & marivonne are wonderful hosts!!! Thanks again for another fabulous weekend, we’ll never go anywhere else for our girls weekend!!! Allan & I can’t wait to come for our anniversary !!! See you soon…

This is really as good as it gets! I have just returned from the most wonderful weekend at Fernandos’ and I dont know where to begin the rave review — oh but it will be a rave…
For a start, I booked at the last minute, desperately needing some R &R after a hard month of work and accumulated sleep deprivation. Having read all the reviews and absolutely fallen in love with the photos on the web site, I emailed a week before and received a very warm response from Trish and Derek who were ‘baby-​sitting’ for Fernando and Marivone; luckily I had a room! I spent the next few days in great anticipation and was not disappointed. The photos do not begin to do it justice! The gardens are beautiful and the Oliveiras home is beautiful and tastefully decorated. For that is what this is: a home away from home, a place where you are treated like a VIP and a family member at one and the same time. I arrived at 5 pm and was welcomed in and given a glass of wine and a seat in front of the most awesome spread of French bread, three varieties of cheese and smoked salmon. After an hour of relaxed chatting with my hosts I was shown my room and the lovely grounds and told to make myself at home. And it truly felt like home, like staying with friends whose one aim was to make your stay as comfortable, pleasant and relaxing as they possibly could. My room was spotless, beautifully decorated and furnished with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Having a private deck was great too, as I could relax and read to my hearts content. The breakfasts were AMAZING! Fresh-​laid eggs, fresh picked squash and Portuguese linguisa combined into a huge omelette and served with fresh bread and homemade jams, in quantities big enough to satisfy you for the whole day, served family fashion round the huge dining table — when you wanted it! Trish and Derek did a wonderful job of making us all feel very special and then I got to meet Fernando and understood just what makes this place so special and why there are so many 5 star reviews for it. Fernando is the epitome of the good host in the very old fashioned sense of the word — where his guests’ comfort and happiness go before anything else and you can truly sense his delight in ensuring that they are cared for. Matched only by his delight in discussing and providing wonderful food, and his obvious love for this beautiful little hideaway that he and Marivone have created, nestled in the hills of Bodega Bay. I am already planning my next visit –and my next and my next…

Came up here the other weekend and had an awesome time! Fernando and Marvionne were so hospitable and generous and welcomed us like family when we first set foot in their house. Kids were running around and enjoying themselves and it was like coming home! Rolled in with a dozen oysters from Hog Island and Fernando helped us shuck them, picked fresh lemons from his tree and shared a bottle of wine with us and conversed for nearly an hour. The bed was so comfortable and the room clean and pleasant. Breakfast was orgasmic — Fernando’s linguisa scramble, Brazilian bread «cakes», and bottomless capuccinio. We had a fantastic time and would come back in a heartbeat!

Thank you, Unilocalers, for sending us to Fernando’s! What a wonderful family and warm hosts. Like everyone else has said, it was like visiting old friends.
They have new, clean rooms (decorated with taste and gorgeous orchids), they welcome dogs (they were so nice to our spaz), their rates are very reasonable, and they don’t require a 2-​night stay with a Saturday night. How many places can boast all of the above? The delicious breakfast (with fresh eggs, espresso drinks, and homemade jam) was the cherry on top. No, wait, their adorable daughter was the cherry on top. So sweet.
If you’re looking for a view or a spa or other sort of hoity-​toity B&B situation, this isn’t for you. If you want comfort, warmth, and wonderful hospitality, then it most definitely is.

Fernando and his wife Marivone are the friendliest hosts I’ve ever met at a bed and breakfast, and they’re excellent cooks. If you’re ever near Bodega Bay, you should *seriously* consider stopping by.
I spent a weekend here with my girlfriend and a group of other couple friends, and we shared food, wine, and company for hours and hours. Their home is beautiful, clean, and spacious, and they raise their own vegetables, herbs, and chickens around the property. Believe me, this makes for spectacularly fresh and delicious meals. The eggs were still warm from the chickens!
We actually arranged a sort of «cooking weekend» for the group, and we learned new recipes and techniques from Fernando, who has been a professional chef and restaurant owner (at Grubstake). We grilled out on the back porch, braised fish in the kitchen, and baked flan.
Simply amazing. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
