Nicole Mahoney, M.D., is graduate of Georgetown University Medical School. She completed her Pediatric Residency at Northwestern University, Children’s Memorial Hospital, Chicago, and is a Member/Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Board Certified in Pediatrics.

Teresa Rea, PA-C, B.S. from the University of Michigan where she graduated with High Distinction. She received a Master of Science (Dean’s Scholar) from the University of Detroit. She is certified as a Physician Assistant. Fluent in Italian.

My family and I recently moved to the area and needed to find a pediatrician. I set up an appointment here because of the Unilocal reviews. We went in today for a well child visit and I’m happy we did. The staff is wonderful! Very knowledgeable, patient, and kind. The nurse who we spoke to really took the time to talk to my child and I and asked questions, she also gave answers to my questions. It is such a relief to have found a great office on our first try.

Since my preemie sons first home visit appointment, we have been patients of dr shilling. We love her! She is very knowledgeable and friendly and the office is very prompt reminding us for appointments and keeping my son on schedule for shots. Whenever my son has been sick, they have gotten me in within one hour. Theresa the nurse is also very nice and thorough. Love this office, when my daughter is born in a couple months, she will also be a patient.

I shopped for a pediatrician. And by shopped… I mean I interviewed 8 practices, mostly in person, and chose this one for many reasons which I will detail below. There are two pediatricians, they are both great. I did not see eye to eye with the nurse practioner so I’ve asked not to see her again, which they’ve accommodated without question.
Okay the reasons why I chose to come here and why I love it:
1) There is a sick and a well room. And an infant room. Pretty standard now a days but not everyone has it.
2) Water in the waiting room. Which is cold. Ahhhhh.
3) Pediatricians are not ancient. In fact they are not only my age-ish but they speak my «language» not just doctor terms. I had a lot of vaccine questions and Dr. Shilling explained everything to me. I ended up getting vaccines although it isn’t a requirement at this practice. In fact for the HepB vaccine they recommend getting it at the office over the hospital so all the records are in one place — makes sense.
4) They connect well with my kid. And they don’t wear the white coat. They give stickers and hugs… it is pleasant.
5) The first visit after being born is done at your home. Being born in February, my kid and I appreciated not having to trudge through the snow and slush to come to the 2 day appointment.
6) The after-hours calls go to the doctors directly so if you have questions you can talk to them… not an answering service.
7) They have same day sick appointments.
8) Someone that can answer medical questions (like my kid has a stuffy nose what can I do?) is available or a doctor will call you back by the end of the day.
9) They know what they are doing and you don’t have to wait forever.
10) Staff is friendly. Even the front desk.

Awesome office, love the docs and the PA. Great facilities, and NEVER a wait, wonderful when an office accommodates the patients and doesn’t try to cram as many appt in a day as they can. Spent a long time researching and the hard work paid off.

We did a lot of research when we were looking for a pediatrician for our daughter. We went to several Dr’s offices and had many in person interviews. Everywhere we went I just was not satisfied. Finally a friend happened to tell me about Pediatric Specialists. I am so thankful every day for that friend.
From the minute we walked in I felt like a huge weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. The place is VERY clean. They have snacks available for the kids and little bottles of water as well. There are 3 Dr’s in the practice and they are all amazing. During our initial interview we met with Dr. Schilling and she was wonderful. She sat and talked with us for a very long time and answered every single one of our questions. After our interview she walked us around the office and introduced us to everyone. When we left the office that day I actually cried. I was just so happy that we had found this office.
My daughter is now 18 months and baby #2 is on the way and we are still over the moon with this practice. The Dr’s really take their time when you come in. I just feel like they really truly care about every single one of their patients.
They also do a few small things that have really impressed me. First of all for your first appointment out of the hospital with a newborn they actually come to YOU! Can you imagine that? It is an amazing service to not have to worry about going to the Dr’s right after your baby is born. I was so impressed with this. Second… when you call after hours the phone actually rings to one of their cell phones. No answering service!
I cannot say enough good things about this practice. I honestly could go on and on and on about them. If you are looking for a pediatrician in the area I definitely suggest checking them out. I drive a pretty long distance to get to them and wouldn’t have it any other way!

I have only been using this doctors office for five months (which is how old my son is) — but I have been quite satisfied. They have a very nice office, with special waiting rooms for healthy vs. sick children. While we do have to wait a bit, it is never unreasonable.
What sold me on this place initially is that the first visit (days after the baby is born) could be conducted in your home. So when I was half-dead to the world, and not moving so great due to having a c-section, I was more than happy to have the nurse practitioner come to my home to check him out.
I was initially concerned as a doctor didn’t come to the hospital to see him as soon as I was expecting, but I have since gotten over that issue.
I really like Doctor Coleman– I feel like she is personal and also very helpful. She gives us suggestions and tips for things sleep-training, etc. rather than just sticking to medical talk. I do have to warn you that you might have a heart attack if you take a look at her ring though. It is blinding.
They send us home with information about how our son should be developing and provide us with lots of useful information. They have also been flexible with our desire to change the vaccination schedule a little bit.
