The Beach At Birch Bay

Being Birchbay locals, we don’t have a whole lot of options when it comes to dining out. We’ve had hits and misses in town and honestly we usually leave and head to Ferndale, Blaine or Bellingham to spend our hard-​earned money. In the winter it’s hard to know what kind of service you’re going to get as we are a summer, tourist town. So, we weren’t sure what to expect when we loaded up and headed down to the beach restaurant for the first time this Monday.
We loved our dinner at the beach. My kids both had burgers, found them to be absolutely delicious and fresh, and we all split the garlic cheese fries as a table… A little heavy on the salt, but that’s how I like it! My husband ordered a burger as well, but I had to opt for the fish and chips because I judge all restaurants, frankly, on how well they can cook a piece of fish. I’m happy to report that it was the best fish and chips I have had in Birch Bay. Crispy on the outside, flaky and perfect on the inside, and the coleslaw that accompanied it was delicious not too sweet and definitely fresh.
While the Decour is slightly lacking and the mismatch of tables looks a little bit like a rec center versus a restaurant the food and the service more than makes up for it and I’m sure that we will see improvements in that area as they grow. The food came out lightning fast, all of our needs were met and the table was checked on promptly and often, and we all left completely happy! We will be back again and often.
Ps, the prices are downright reasonable for this tourist town!

The food and most of the staff here are wonderful, still has a long way to go if they can make it through the winter. Chefs do fabulous work and most of the girls who work here are great. High turnaround for just being taken over a few months ago. New owners are not very supportive of the locals and that’s too bad, they are the best clientele.

I’ve been to The Beach at Birch Bay several times. I have enjoyed everything I’ve ordered. They have a new chef, his menu choices are amazing. My sister doesn’t like cole slaw, she loves the made from scratch served at The Beach. The fish and chips are truly the best in town. The servers are experienced and knowledgable.
Now let’s talk about the bar… what a change! The new owners have already made positive changes with more to come. New heating, double pane windows, better lighting. They have plans for more changes for the summer season… it’s going to be great!
I have enjoyed all of my visits to The Beach at Birch Bay. Stop by, you won’t regret it.

Every time I go to The Beach I get to try something new. I am yet to have a meal there where I sat and said «meh». I love this spot now, previous owners ran it terribly – but with new owners, and especially a new chef and menu – this is one of the best spots you can go in Whatcom county – especially in the Blaine or Birch Bay area.
The transformations that they have made since they re-​opened are impressive. The thorough clean up has been done throughout the entire establishment I am talking bathrooms, kitchen, dining area, the entire bar, and even the outside which I know has been a project – is looking great.
Even with the cold weather months right now, this place is a perfect place to go they keep it warm and cozy inside and is decorated to promote that feeling at the same time.
Service is still top notch since I first went, with my waitress being different various times but always have been provided with the up most care and service. Not too pushy, but doesn’t dissapear for 15 minutes. They are always able to inform me of any specials, and they have an impressive memory of the entire bar tap selection which comes mostly from micro-​breweries.
The events they put on have been awesome as well. A weekly cribbage tournment, end of prohibition celebration, and the most recent New Years Eve Dinner and Party special event was a blast!
