The Shores Restaurant

The food was OK. Small portions and overpriced. Nothing special. The service was definitely subpar. Our group of five only had two menus for a while. The place wasn’t busy, but the service was really slow, not friendly. I probably won’t be back.

The blackened halibut was absolutely atrocious. Spicy Hot, hot, hot –at least 7 stars hot. I could not believe it. Most people are good for about 2 or 3 stars. Left most of it behind on the table. Inedible. The French fries and shrimp salad were good. My wife’s oysters were over-​fried black and rock hard– way, way overdone. I have eaten here many times before and ordered the blackened halibut and it used to be pretty good. The last two times I have eaten here in the last year were not as good as in previous years. Too bad I have always liked the atmosphere and water views. Very disappointed.

My wife and I tried to eat here today, tried.
We went in blind, not having read any reviews, we were just out for a drive looking for a new place for lunch. Seat yourself sign upon entry, OK. We picked a booth right in the front window in clear view of the bar. Wife went to the restroom, it was dirty by the way, came back to her lonely husband because I still hadn’t met a waiter/​waitress.
I’m sure I made eye contact with two different people behind the bar, at that the internal countdown began…
We walked out without speaking a word to anybody in the place, football games on in the bar must have been very compelling.
Ten minutes of our lives wasted, ended up driving down to Bellingham.
I wasn’t surprised when I started reading all the similarly bad reviews on here. Save your time and money, go somewhere that wants your business.

Went for breakfast with another couple who had been here before. Their previous experience was poor as they were ignored for twenty minutes before eventually getting up to leave without anyone making contact with them. Should’ve listened to their experience. We sat at a table without anyone making even a quick contact to say they were busy but would be with us shortly. So we tracked down our own menus and patiently waited. Eventually a waitress came by with a story about working late the night before and there only being one other waitress in the place. Whether or not this was true I cannot say, but it sure reflects poorly on the management of Shores if true. Eventually we got our food which was okay. Not bad, not great, but definitely the last we will have at Shores.

I didn’t read previous reviews, we just came in to have a meal because living in Birch Bay, your options are limited!
My kids enjoyed their meal, my husband and I liked our burgers, and the service was great. Our waitress was Taryn and she was friendly, prompt, and nice. She answered all of our questions (including warning us that the pizza my daughter ordered would take a little extra time, which I appreciated because some kids are more patient than others).
Is it our favorite place to grab a meal in Birch Bay? No. But it fits the families needs and the view is absolutely wonderful! It would be a good place to watch the game, as well.

Great little bar & grill at Birch Bay. Friendly staff, generous portions and decent grub. Great place to watch a ball game if you don’t want to leave Burch Bay and venture to Bellingham or White Rock. The food is a bit overpriced but order a glass of wine or beer and the value of the overall meal is quite acceptable.

Hands down the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to. If I could somehow give them a negative amount of stars I would. Kitchen is slow, they’re understaffed, my friends food came 15 minutes before mine did and by the time my food got to me it was cold. I asked them to reheat it which took an additional 10
minutes and the meal was gross to boot. When I complained to the person who was apparently the owner he was nothing but rude and sexist, and gave me no kind of discount on my meal. DONT waste your money, not only is the food gross and the service shitty but it’s also expensive.

Hellllo?! I’m still here and I’m still hungry! Been here 45 minutes. All of the reviews so far are accurate, well except the food I haven’t eaten yet so I couldn’t tell. The waitresses need to put down the vodka I couldn’t even understand what she was saying from te slur in her words. I mean they are waitresses I can’t expect these girls to have a college education but at least bring me the drink and sugar I asked for … Is this a joke .
Honesty the only tip this place will get is to GET A GRIP AND READ YOUR REVIEWS!!! come on people

So I was basically scared to try this place after reading other reviews but because so few of them were from people who had done more than 5 reviews I thought I’d be brave & try it.
Hubby & I were staying at the Sandcastle Resort & just wanted to grab an appetizer & a beer & watch the Sounders game.
We arrived at approximately 7:25 & grabbed a table in front of one of their many big flat screen TV’s. We were quickly offered water & menus. We decided on nachos pretty quickly. They were pretty good. Not exceptional but better than others I’ve had. Small amount of sour cream & salsa served with. We needed more. About 10 beers on tap to choose from & we both went with Sierra Nevadas.
Service was fine. No major problem except that when hubby went to cash in pull tabs the waitress took away his ¼ full beer glass without asking if he was done. She apologized & gave him another.
Would return again to try something else & might upgrade rating if it’s a good visit.

Food was good but service was horrible. We sat on the patio which was full but the restaurant was not busy beyond that and our orders took close to an hour. The waitress was so sweet and brought our 3yr old some fries because she was STARVING! The waitress was sweet but the kitchen was very slow and seemingly unnecessarily. Without kids, if you’re going for drinks and dinner and you’re not in a hurry then it’s probably fine. But for families I would not recommend– the time from sitting to leaving is too long for the kids.

Got the prime rib dip, and was very happy. The fish and chips were good too, but not spectacular. Lots of beers on tap for good prices. Felt a little dirty because it was older, but overall great location.

Came here because it is close to home and wanted to watch the first preseason Seahawk game of the season… we haven’t even gotten our food yet we have been here 45 minutes the waitress has come over twice. All we order was a couple burger n chicken strips. Have been a waitress before I know one can handle 10 tables without a problem. This is ridiculous. Unless these burgers are out of this world then we won’t be back. One an d only plus. strong whiskey and coke … The kiddo wants me to add that the crayons are horrible.

The kitchen is slow… 30+ minutes for 5 plates. The owner is a sexist, asshole. Do not patronize this place.

Wow! The only person to give this place a good review was so out of line from reality that either they are owners or they have their taste buds surgically removed at some point in their life.
We ordered a chef salad and then some chicken tenders to go for our daughter who was waiting at the hotel. I specifically asked to have the tenders made after we got our salad but they came with the salad so they were nice and cold by the time we got back.
The salad what to say??? outside I have had better one dollar salads at McDonald’s! It look like one little sad slice of deli turkey meat and one slice of deli ham that have been chopped up with some American cheese, one egg, and sitting on some iceberg lettuce out of the bag… All that after 20 minutes and only $ 12. Not awesome.
The kicker? Back at the hotel my daughter got to open up her take out box to find cold fries with the world saddest little piece of deep-​fried fish, obviously not chicken tenders, and not edible. And we all like fish but none of us could eat eat it.
I’m never written a bad review before and I really wish I could do a negative star for this place.

Very slow service. Food was not worth the price, especially out of nowhere and people that were hanging out seem like more locals then guests at the hotel.
The single guy band singing and playing the keyboard is so 1980’s…
but got to give him props for making a living. so gave him a good tip for effort.

Horrible service, food was not good. My eggs were overdone and had lunch meat cut up in them. We had to go up to the bar to ask for coffee refills where we were told there wasn’t any ready. There were only 4 tables of people and 3 waitresses. How do you not have coffee ready at breakfast?
We had been here a couple years prior and gave it another shot. BIG MISTAKE!

Terrible Service
I went to this place to watch football in the morning because I was checking out if the Workdmark resort.
I sat at bar and the bartender never smiled once the entire time. I ate breakfast and lunch and both times I had to ask for silverware both times.
She just sat on the counter begins the bar the entire time and read a magazine.
A few regulars came in and had 1 drink. I think they would have had more if the girl would at least smiled at them.
A lady that seemed to be the manager came behind the bar and never checked in anything.
I guess since there isn’t much going on in Birch Bay, they have a captive audience.
Terrible service all around, not just the bar. Several table guest came to the bar because they couldn’t find their server.
Terrible service, decent food.

We walked in and were greeted by… no one. We just picked a seat which was fine. After a couple minutes, we were brought flatware and menus by a child (labor laws anyone?). Service overall was slow, food was mediocre at best. The prime rib was at least a third fat, though it was prepared well. The salad was out of a bag with some lettuce already turning brown. Overpriced for what you get.

For a sleepy beach town this place isn’t horrible, but I have a very limited opinion. We were meeting my husband’s cousin for drinks. We got there first and it took a little bit of time for us to get served. And when our companions joined us, it’s almost as if we didn’t exist. The bar area was not that crowded and it took a couple trips to the bar before we were finally able to round up some drinks for the other couple.
The drink was honest, but the service wasn’t the best. I’d rather stay at the house and drink wine on the back porch.

This place is nice and is close to the Worldmark Resort. They have a great selection of seafood and salads. The garlic bread they serve with salads is to die for. The staff is friendly and the service is fantastic. You feel like a real part of the crew. Shores is a great hangout spot in Birch Bay. I highly recommend you stop by for a meal.
