Shelby-Inverness License & Tag Registration Office

I moved to Alabama this year. This is my 3^rd attempt to get a new Drivers License. The first two attempts were thwarted by the time spent in line. On the first 2 tries, I actually stood in line for about 30 minutes each time, and had to leave because I didn’t have 2 hours to wait.
I came today because I am off work for the holidays. Although I would still prefer not to wait in line for two hours, it looks like that’s my only option if I want a new license from the Yellowhammer state.
So here’s the deal. When you enter this office, you will find 4 – 6 clerks sitting at the counter, who are doing license plate renewals. Each time I’ve been in this office, there is no line for license plates.
Then, there is one desk at the back of the office. This single desk has a single clerk steering the ship. This is where Drivers Licenses happen. And every time I’ve been in, the line for Drivers Licenses has had no fewer than 8 people in line. The average processing time per person in this line is 8 minutes, rounded to the nearest minute. Needless to say, it’s a long wait if you want a license.
Something is very wrong with this picture. 4 – 6 clerks with no line. 1 clerk with a huge line. It may be time for the State of Alabama to consider a reallocation of human resources in this office.

If you need tags taken care of, you must go to a location in your county. However, drivers licenses can be taken care of at any location in Alabama. This is one of the best locations I have ever been. This spot is kind of a secret that people whisper to their friends who complain about going to the lines Jefferson County. I heard about this place from my wife, who heard it from a friend, who heard about it from a friend. I complained about driving out to this location, which is a pretty good distance from my home. This place is definitely worth it. I would much rather driver here than deal with the long lines of other locations. I’m not going to lie, there was a line. I went at about 8AM, and the line only took about 5 minutes, not that bad. I have spent 4 hours in lines in Jefferson County. They only had one lady do the drivers licenses and she was so sweet. I will definitely return for all my drivers license needs.
