Carol Lewis Day Spa

I went in to this spa for a refresher facial (having bought their Groupon). I walked in and was greeted by a young female who couldn’t be more impressive about looking bored. I was told to go upstairs and wait in their waiting area. I was greeted upstairs in about 10 minutes and told to change and go into her facial room. She seemed very nice and genuine. Before she started, I mentioned to her I was newley diagnosed with rosacea (extremely sensitve skin) so I let her upsell me to use products for rasacea. She told me it would be soothing to my skin and mentioned that it would help me keep from breaking out. So I took her up on her $ 30 upsell.
Wow! I don’t think I was ever so disappointed with a spa before. Especially with one that has so many rave reviews. I have to admit, I have never had a facial before, but my friends have told me how wonderfully relaxing they are. This was not relaxing. The person working on me, would quite talking and it was all negative. The products she was putting on my face tingled (not in a good way) and when I left there, my face had never been redder. At the end of the session, she proceeded to let me know I should come back for a real facial and repeated over and over that this was nothing.
By the time I got home and looked in my own mirror, I was as red as a beet and I had a large pock/​cyst on my cheek! It took 2 days for that to go away and three days for the redness to begin to go down. I will NOT be going back to this place and I do NOT recommend.

Had an awesome massage with Margaret! She was very nice and definitely had a great touch that was instantly relaxing. She also made sure to work the areas we discussed might need some extra attention. The atmosphere was very ambient and welcoming and I especially enjoyed the heated bed. My only «complaint» and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the surcharge to use my credit card. If I had known about this in advance I would have brought cash or my checkbook instead.

I took my teenage Daughter here for a mini facial, her first. The groupon was for 30 minute mini facial and I thought it would be a perfect start for a 15 year old girl and in what we thought was a really nice place. The front desk was engaging but the tech did not speak to my Daughter about her skin during the facial or engage her in any way. It was uncomfortable for my Daughter. We had higher expectations but it was dissapointing :(I doubt we will return.

My husband bought me a spa package including a facial, massage and mani/​pedi. What really stood out was the facial. Ellen is such a sweetheart. She talked me into adding a chemical peel and I’m glad she did! I have very sensitive fair skin and I was nervous of being red, but she assured me I wouldn’t be — and she was right! It was my first facial and chemical peel, loved it and love the results! Wish they were more affordable, but I guess you get what you pay for?
Nail technician is such a doll, but I would skip nails here. Massage therapist was also very nice, massage was fine. The facial is what left me impressed!

I have been seeing Ellen for 10 years to get facials. I have now moved to Phoenix and do not visit Michigan very often. I had scheduled a facial appointment and arrived on time. I was told if I cam eat 1pm, I could get a full facial from 1 – 1:45. Ellen did not take me into her room till 1:30 and I was done by 1:50. I was never told that I was actually booked for a mini-​facial. The front desk girl lied to me when I booked my appointment. I was in/​out in 20 minutes and was charged $ 65! I was so frustrated and mad that I was coming from out of town and no one could make time to provide a full facial. On top of that, I got robbed for paying $ 65 for 20 minutes worth of service. Also, while ringing me up no one mentioned I was charged a «service charge» for using my credit card. I realized this after the transaction and looking at my receipt that day. I had a terrible experience and after 10 years I plan on never ever going back to Carol Lewis Day spa again! I will find another spa to visit when I come back to town.

Honestly, I’ve had many facials and try new places to find a good one since moving back from Arizona. This would have to be my worst facial ever. She bare touched my face during the facial so I can she was new. I think I was her first client ever, haha. I added on a so called peel to my facial. A Salicylic acid 30%? Now, I have never heard of that so I assumed this girl was new. She said my skin would peel after, but that never happened. I called their spa a couple times to let their management staff know, I kept getting moved around but no manager ever called me. I was trying to give them the benefit of doubt Before I posted on Unilocal and I let them know that… but still no call back. I do like the girl at the front desk who was very friendly and helpful when I was there. I would not recommend anyone come here and spend a dollar. You will not be happy with your service aka facial. There is a reason why this spa is award-​winning and featured in magazines like Allure! If you want a luxurious spa experience, this is the place to go. The staff is incredibly friendly and I was truly treated like a queen at this spa. Carol, the owner, makes you feel so comfortable and the spa is gorgeous and clean. I had a facial and waxing here and highly recommend both services. I will be coming back time and time again.

In regard to my first post with this spa I did want to say that today I was refunded my money and offered a complimentary facial. They certainly didn’t have to do that as they could have just said «oh well» and I appreciate that they did. Thank you.

Horrible spa pedicure that cost $ 65! A cramped dull lit room where you put your feet in a bowl of water and have to balance your feet on knees to get painted… Massage lasted maybe 2 minutes on each foot… I would never go back for a pedicure again… The most uncomfortable pedicure I have ever had… Feet up, feet down, feet up, feet down… Then the tech said she could not see so why am I paying $ 65 for this service!!! I mentioned it as I was leaving and nothing was done about it…

I am a regular at spas in the area. I have only visited Carol Lewis Day Spa once as a gift for a massage a few years ago. I saw a groupon for a «refresher facial.» My appointment was today at 2:45pm.
At 1:45pm the spa called and asked me to switch my appointment– my choices were 2:15pm and 4:30pm. I opted for the 2:15 because I had evening plans.
When I checked in at 2:15, they sent me upstairs to sit in the lobby. I sat there for 20 minutes before I asked a woman what to do. She told me to put on a wrap towel. I then proceeded to wait another 15 minutes and ultimately walk downstairs to inquire with the receptionist if I was going to see anyone in the near future.
At 2:50pm, Carol Lewis finally came out to bring me into the room. Why they asked me to come 30 minutes early to wait 35 minutes was explained to me as a «mistake.» Perhaps someone should be running the scheduling who knows what they’re doing.
To top the experience off, their were loud women talking so loudly that I could hear them loud and clear throughout my entire treatment. Carol also said she would give me a «special» facial for my inconvenience and the 30 minute facial was the most basic, underwhelming facial I’ve ever had. There was absolutely nothing special about it except her her sales pitch trying to upsell me a facial peel. She was very nice but I’m looking for a great facial with quality service.
Don’t waste your time with this place.

I have had 2 facials with Ellen and eyebrow waxed. I was very pleased with her experience and knowledge. I have booked again for every 2 months. My skin looks and feels great! Thank you:)

Ellen is amazing, and she’s the only one I trust when it comes to Brazilians. She is extremely pleasant, works very quickly, and never makes you feel uncomfortable. I would highly recommend her.

Specialty facials (oxygen, vitamin C) are wonderful with Ellen. You leave feeling so relaxed and your skin just glows! They are highly recommended.

I saw Carol today for Brazilian for the first time today and was very pleased by how quick and relatively painless it was. Carol did a wonderful job and has set up a great relaxing environment for any treatment. I highly recommend her spa!

I go to Carol Lewis Day Spa for one reason and one reason only, Brazilian waxes with Ellen. I read great reviews about her online about 5 years ago and thought I’d give it a try. Needless to say I’ve been driving 30 minutes to see Ellen about every 5 – 8 weeks for 5 years now. She is efficient, quick, and precise, which is what matters when you’re getting a Brazilian. If you want a wax, Ellen is the aesthetician to see.

This is a very friendly and excellent place to go for facials and waxing. I highly recommend Ellen, as she has been doing all of my waxing, facials, etc for the last seven years.
They also have a decent retail area that’s often updated with new and unique items.

I had a very odd experience here. I purchased a Groupon for a massage and glass of wine and set up an appointment. The massage was fine but at the end my therapist immediately ran out of the room without any instruction as to where I should go or do. I got dressed and no one was around. I went upstairs and no one was at the desk. After waiting for 5 minutes the receptionist came in and I asked about the wine. She gave me some and I awkwardly sat in the lobby and drank it as fast as I could. My therapist came back in the room and my assumption was she really had to go to the bathroom so she booked when my massage was done. So weird that I won’t go back.

I went for a manicure and pedicure on a Groupon special. It’s always a risk when you go for a special because often I’ve been treated poorly at salons when redeeming Groupon. I thought my services were fine and on par with other salons I went to. I added on an eyebrow wax and liked the results.
For me, the thing that stood out was the friendliness of the staff and the laid back environment. It seemed like the place you’d want to go on a regular basis. Some people like the super quiet spa environment, and if that’s what you like this probably isn’t the place for you. I do agree that the staff does seem very chatty.
My only concern was that my appointment didn’t start on time because someone was late for work. I didn’t really appreciate that and noone seemed to notice it but me.

That’s how I would describe my first facial, and first visit to Carol Lewis Day Spa! This place is top notch, without the fluff and snobbery that you would expect to see at such an upscale spa.
Ms. Carol Lewis herself sometimes takes your appointments and makes sure that your service was nothing but the best! She even accommodated my bridal party on a busy Saturday afternoon!
The business itself sits in a home in downtown Birmingham, so right away you get that warm and fuzzy feeling! We were taken upstairs for our services and given cozy robes and slippers to change into.
My facial was 5-​star. My skin felt brand new and was glowing for at least a week after my service! I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed my visit here. You have to try it out and trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
