Big Bear Frontier

It was great. The pet friendly cabin was perfect for us. We hiked at a trail 2 miles away. The staff was friendly and fast. They charge 15 dollars more a night if you have a pet. We stayed at cabin 6 with a great patio overlooking the lake. The kitchen had a microwave, stove, oven, refrigerator and a coffee maker. Big jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. And a sleeper sofa in the living room with a fire place, TV and a dinette table. Convenient store across the street too. The bedroom also had a safe, iron and an ironing table. We brought some groceries for breakfast and lunch and ate dinner out.
They have a pool and jacuzzi outdoor too. Coffee is provided in the room but you can get more at the front desk.
Very cozy cabin. We enjoyed the two nights we spent.

I like the Frontier, it’s a nice place for a stay in Big Bear, and I’d recommend it, with a few suggestions.
The Pros: The resort is right on the lake, but be forewarned, the lake is really, really low right now and probably will be until So Cal gets some decent rain and snowfall. But it’s just a minute or two walk from any cabin or room to the water. Their «dock» is sitting on land and the water is another 50 feet beyond that, but it’s a great area for your dog to play in the lake if you bring it.
The whole resort is pet friendly, with a reasonable $ 15 a night pet fee. My dog was in heaven!
It’s walking distance to Big Bear Lake Village where most of the nice shops and restaurants are.
They don’t offer any kind of breakfast but there is coffee and tea available in the lobby.
The grounds are lovely and kept up very nicely, and the maid, grounds and lobby staff are very nice.
There are hotel rooms with fireplaces and individual cabins, most with fireplaces. Lots of picnic tables and BBQ grills next to all rooms if you want to have a cook out.
The bed in our room was comfortable.
Cons: Frontier Lodge is on the main road, so it does get noisy during commuter time.
While most of the cabins have fireplaces, one does not. Of course that was the one (#24) that we got. I was bummed, but I let it slide since my husband doesn’t like them. Also not all the fireplaces are wood burning, so if you want a cabin or room with a wood burning fireplace, then you need to request that. And don’t let them give you #24!
Our cabin (24) was VERY small even for just the three of us. (Husband and I with big dog). Since I booked the queen studio with kitchenette, I was expecting a bit larger.
The shower was TINY!
The room had a funky, unclean smell, but it was tidy.
Even though there’s supposed to be WIFI, it was non-​existent in our room. I only wanted to watch a Netflix movie since their cable tv is limited.
The TV was wonky, bad picture and some channels didn’t work.
The wall furnace was noisy.
Despite the cons, I would still recommend the Frontier. You can’t beat it for location to the water. Every morning I would get up and we’d be on the lake in two minutes so that was such a gift, since he loves the water. The view from our cabin was lovely and the little park next to it was nice to have. We just needed a little more room and a few more amenities to make it perfect. Now we know what to ask for next time

The location was great in the sense that it was close to everything, especially the lake. The shared, lakeside deck was a lovely place to enjoy the view. There was a little store really close by for those little things you need. The cabin had everything we needed, but there were a couple of things that could have been better. First, there was a really strong cleaner smell. Once that mostly aired out, there was an odd scent. Perhaps that’s why the heavy cleaner smell? This is a pet friendly place, so maybe that had something to do with it? The main bed was really uncomfortable (terribly firm) and a couple of the pillows smelled like… pets. The shower was super small. You could barely turn around without knocking into the water knob and changing the temp, but the water was nice and hot — just wouldn’t be ideal for folks that need more room. There was a nice marble counter in the bathroom but the sink was mounted so far back that I could hardly reach to brush my teeth and I’m not short. (Our 10 year old had to sit on the counter next to the sink). With all of that said, our needs were met. I wish there were a 3 ½ star rating.

We stayed here on our honeymoon in 2002 and came back this year to celebrate our Anniversary. The cabins are super clean, very comfortable and private. I love how close to the lake it is. The employees are really friendly. Highly recommend this place.

Great little place to stay. They have outdoor BBQ grills, and picnic benches that are situated on manicured grass. I plan to use these when we go back. The room was nice and clean, a little dated but the décor was definitely of the «mountain» vibe. The fire place was an actual fire place and not one of the gas fire places with the fake logs. If you check in on Unilocal you will get a free fire log. It’s a paper wrapped fire started log, the kind that burns for a couple of hours to get a fire going. We used it to build a fire with the wood we got from the small market across the street. USE THE FIREPLACE SCREEN!!! We had a log roll out of the fireplace as it does not have a recessed area for the fire or a lip on the front of the fire area. We had the screen in place and all was fine. And make sure that the chimney flue is open BEFORE you light your fire! Or you will set off the smoke detector.
The location is great as you can walk to practically everything in town. I don’t think anything was more than a 20 minute walk away. This is right on the lake, but oddly enough the rooms that are at the end of the building closest to the lake do not have windows that face the lake, it’s jut a solid wall. I found this really odd. They do have a deck and private dock but the lake was so low that the dock was just sitting on the lake bed and the water was several feet away.
There is Coffee and Tea in the lobby. When we checked in there were tickets to a show at The Cave that is about a 10 minute walk from BBF. So look for tickets when you check in here. While the internet wasn’t necessarily fast it was stable. The only complaint is that you have to re-​login about every 30 minutes is seemed. So if [like me] you queue pictures for upload that you took during the day as you go to bed, they will not all get uploaded.
Hope they change that config on the system I’d think that 48 – 72 hours would be more fitting as most people would stay for about that long I would guess. I would definitely stay here again.

Love It Here! Stayed here a few weeks back and going again in 2 weeks!!! So relaxing for the whole family. Usually we Vaca in Vegas not any more.

Just stayed this Mother’s Day weekend 2016. Friendly staff and clean rooms.
Down side? Bedding is torn and worn out. Floors are uneven, the shower head fell off, and the bathroom door knob fell off as well. Other then that, it’s quiet and the location is perfect. I would recommend to anyone to stay here, just bring a few tools with ya.

Been here twice now when I visit Big Bear.
There are individual cabins you can rent as well as hotel rooms (connected to eachother).
All the rooms/​cabins have a nice cabin/​mountainy feel to it.
Staff is very friendly and lobby has games and free coffee/​tea.
PET FRIENDLY ($ 15 charge)
Basically on the lake which is awesome.
Close enough to downtown to walk :)

This is one of my favorite places. It is old and charming but kept clean. It is on the lake and has a beautiful view. There are tables and BBQ’s to use. Nice patio’s with cabins. Service is kind and curtious.

Great find! Conveniently located to the lake and village (under a mile, easily walkable). These are nice little cabins with lots of grassy areas outside for your pets. These are clean rooms with jacuzzis, private bbq’s, fireplaces, kitchenettes, and looks newly remodeled. Stream running outside with little bridges is a nice touch. So peaceful! Will definitely be back!

FYI, read the other bad reviews before booking a cabin here. Below are a few of my observations.
There are definite maintenance and upkeep issues; loose doorknobs (really really loose), lumpy beds (to the point that you will not sleep well), things that were broken, etc…
INTERNET/​WIFI is basically useless (horribly slow).
ANTS in the kitchen; more than one person has complained about this so my guess is that Managment doesn’t pay for any kind of regular pest control.
I’ve stayed here before but this was unfortunately my last time here. Life’s to short — there are better alternatives.

Do not stay here. We showed up and the first room they gave us was dirty. The guy up front called «Rosa» over the walkie-​talkie and as I went back to get my stuff from the 1^st room, we ran into Rosa who was there to clean it. She looked pissed. She literally didnt say a word to me. Once we had moved to the 2^nd room, we walked passed Rosa again and I said hi. She didnt say a word. Except for when she walked passed us she murmured something in Spanish and it was very inappropriate, (my girlfriend is fluent). The 2^nd room was still nothing special (see picks). It was only after dinner when I noticed (needing to get my work done) that the wifi didnt reach our cabin. I told the guy and he said, «either the server is down or you are out of range.» So i kept having to leave in order to find wifi and get my work completed. Dog Poop everywhere. Dont stay there. Very uncomfortable cleaning crew of Hispanic women that only speak Spanish around you.

Had a great visit with my boyfriend this past week. He had stayed here a couple of times before and said it was great.
We wanted a cabin that was cozy so we stayed in a room with a fairly large jacuzzi tub and a wood burning fireplace. It was the perfect little place for an overnight getaway.
The cabin was clean and had all the amenities we needed including a wine opener. Free wifi and friendly staff.

It is always fun visiting Big Bear and it is triple fun when you get to make snowman!
This little mini cabin style hotel was fun to stay at… It was all woody and rustic and just sooo cute… It gave me the feeling of the Hobbit house whenever I wanted to get into the cabin.
As for the interior such as kitchen, it does need some upgrading… The nightly rate of $ 230 seems a bit steep if you want to utilize the kitchen which seemed useless.
Considering that this was a pet friendly hotel, I was hesitant to stay here because they always smell. But Thank God, the cabin did not smell. So I am not sure whether they have some cabins dedicated to guests that don’t have pets or it was just my good luck…
The front desk staff was friendly but I did not have that many interactions with them to report otherwise.
The location of the cabins is very close to the Big Bear village where all the restaurants are located at… You also have a private deck to the lake.

Went for valentines and had the Best place ever! Very nice stay, very clean and neat. The hot tub didn’t get to hot but overall I had a very nice stay!

Great location with private, cozy cabins. The only negative was the bathroom in Cabin 6. It wasn’t cleaned well (dust and HAIR) and it smelled of mold as soon as we walked in the cabin. The bathroom needs to be updated badly! The tub looks like it’s been painted over? And the caulking/​grout was done very sloppy.
Other than the gross bathroom it was awesome!

Room is wonderful wifi — cozy and in home cabin like front desk ppl are nice and greatest thing 5mins walking distance to the town

Stayed at cabin studio #27. Such a cute little cabin for two. Me and my boyfriend loved it. Walk right out to the lake pretty much. Loved that they supplied pots, pans, toaster, glass cups and dishes. Can opener, cooking utensils, silver wear. The shower is a little small but it was fine. Bed is comfy. Everything was clean. The heater works great. We brought our own wood for the fire place. Nice little eating area and kitchen is cute! We woke up early to watch the sunrise over the frozen lake, unbelievable. So beautiful, peaceful. The guy who checked us in was nice, we arrived early and they texted me when my cabin was ready. Frontier is located right by the town. We walked across the street and eat a nice dinner at cowboy express stakehouse. I highly recommend this cabin.

We stayed in cabin 6, which was a one bedroom with a whirlpool tub. It had an electric fireplace, which was nice, a full kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge, dishes, coffeemaker. There was a small dining nook with 4 chairs, and a sliding door to the small deck and outdoor furniture. Great view of the lake, close to the tube park and resorts.
The room was clean, comfortable. Staff were nice. Price was ok. Nice place for a getaway for sure.

Came back to visit Big Bear 1÷19−1÷21 & got room 128. It’s on the 2^nd fl which is closer to the stairs & just by the lake. We thought it was gonna be a better experience staying here. But we were wrong.
PROS: 2^nd Floor, Clean room, just right by the lake, & ample towels, easy checkin. For that, I can give 3 stars.
CONS: The light from the ceiling fan is broken. So you would be eating in the dark. Decided to open the curtains for some light. The most annoying part was the floors would creak so much even if you try to walk slowly. In addition to that, the occupants below us had probably knocked our floor 3 – 4 times for every walk that we made. I mean, we can’t help it if those floors are making that much noise. On our last night, we could smell pot (?) smoke coming from that connecting door. I could careless if it was just us adults but I have a 2 year old so, it wasn’t okay. I told the frontdesk (blond, curly, hair lady in her 40s I think) the next day when we checkout & she just said «its normal nowadays so cant really do anything about it.» Now, I think I have to ask a resort’s policy on smoking pot to make sure none of that will happen again.
And yes, we could have told them about it on that night but I was worried too that the next door will retaliate & compromise our safety esp. that I have my 2 year old son. Call me paranoid but you’ll never know. The unit was the last room & unfortunately, we happened to be beside it. And we had no idea who are the occupants in that unit. To minimize that smell, I decided to just grab all the towels and try to cover the cracks in between that door where the smell came from.
So, heads up, you should check with the business for that kind of scenario. If they will just move you to another room or something else.
