Big Bear Cabins 4 Less

Had a great time, grilled under the towering pines as butterflies flitted by. Sleepnumber beds, fully equipped kitchen– HBO… my husband and dogs really enjoyed our 3 night stay to the fullest. He kayaked Boulder Bay, my dogs loved walking down for a swim. Ron took good care of my husband, he had everything on hand we didn’t bring… very clutch. I seriously can’t wait to go back.

The bed didn’t even come with sheets. I was freezing all night because we only brought one blanket and the one provided was flat and old. The whole place is fairly decent. Not worth what we paid for to be honest. It did have a nice view of the lake. But thats about it. The bed was also really uncomfortable and i couldnt sleep well at all.

I will come right out and say it, I did NOT go here, but I did have my daughter, exwife and her boyfriend stay here as I was unable to go due to a massive allergy flare up the night before my daughter and I were supposed to go.
Let me set the story for everyone. The little girl and I were going to go up to Big Bear and just enjoy some time out in the woods, by the lake, small village living and shit like that. Throw rocks at each other in the woods, try and catch a fish with my bare hands and wrestle a bear kind of weekend, leave Friday, stay there and come back on Sunday… just rustic as you can be. wander around the trails, go up and down and rub my butthole with leaves kind of weekend with the little girl who was on spring break.
Allergies flared up to a point my eyes looked like someone reached down and squeezed my body so hard everything was going to go popping out of my eye sockets. So I was going to let the little girl down and tell her that we could not go and just absorb the cost. When all of a sudden, the exwife texts me and asks if she was going to have to watch my dog while I was gone. Genius strikes, so I say hey, why don’t you and your boyfriend take the little girl up there. She jumps at the chance, I mean I paid for it, all good. I let the little girl know and she is excited.
I forward her all the information. She takes one look at the name of the place and goes, that place sounds ghetto. In my defense, this place was cheap and we were not going to be inside much. again, out in the woods fighting wild animals, eating bark, and making a canoe out of the insides of a bear we skinned was the idea of the weekend for us. She is a bit on the proper side, never roughed it in her entire life. Granted anytime you have 4 Less in your name, quality is not what you are looking for, you are looking for a place to sleep and not being eaten by the locals.
It was a little small, so I said ok, I will upgrade it. I called the number in the email, paid extra for the linens, towels, pet deposit and all that jazz (oh yeah, she decided to bring her dogs — more on that later) — Guy on the phone upgraded them from like a shack to a jacuzzi loft thingy. He was phenomenal, I did everything that he asked, explained the situation, just a purely phenomenal experience. A++ for this guy whose name I never got, but love him like an Uncle I had never met.
I get all of the stuff emailed to me and forward it on to her. Bring your own toilet paper was in there, so I told her bring a roll of toilet paper… it also said, do not leave your dog in the cabin by itself. It would bark and make too much noise. It was clearly in the email, in big block letters. I assumed she had read that part. They went off to the cabin after picking up the little girl. I sat in bed with a warm wash cloth on my eyes listening to music. They get up there and immediately she starts texting me about how dirty it looks. Then I called her and said, hey, remember not to leave the dogs at the cabin when you are out. Which sets her off. what do you mean? I then said yeah that email I sent to you before you left that said do not leave the dogs int he cabin while you are out, that one, I am just reminding you of that. After a round of texts going back and forth where she used some rather interesting words to describe what kind of human being I was, I snickered and put the wash cloth back on my eyes and went to sleep. Little girl seemed like she was enjoying herself, so that was good.
Next day nothing from her, little girl does make mention that exwife is grumpy and irritable. I snicker some more. They cannot find anything to do since it is out of season for a lot of things. So instead of overcoming, improvising, and adapting to the situation, they whine and moan and groan. I am now getting texts about how horrible a person I am for upgrading them and paying for everything and how miserable she (exwife) is. Apparently the whole lets go out and wrestle a bear was not on their to do list.
I spent a chunk of change for their weekend and honestly, I have not laughed like this for awhile. This is not to take anything away from the cabins 4 less, the name pretty much tells you the level of quality you are going to get. The customer service is phenomenal, next time I want to go back to Big Bear, which will most likely be this summer, I am without a doubt going to go here and experience this place, because it is exactly what I was hoping for, a place to sleep while I am out covering myself in mud and hiding in the woods so I can throat punch a deer.

Had an excellent stay in cabin 25, first time staying with cabins 4 less and we were very satisfied. The staff is extremely accommodating as to letting us check out late. Staff is extremely friendly and our cabin clean and quaint, I recommend giving cabins 4 less a try. Will definitely be staying here next time I come to Big Bear.

Saw this cabin on Groupon and decided to give it a try for our one year anniversary. We were very happy with our 2 night stay. The cabin was pretty basic but that was expected (the website has images of each cabin). And since we bought through Groupon I knew they weren’t going to put us in the presidential cabin :) ! I was also pleased with how informed they kept me. A week before our stay I got an email of exactly what to bring. The day before our stay I got another email with the big bear weather for cast for during our stay. Since there was possible snow in the forecast they let me know exactly where to go for the best deal on chains for my tires. I had never been to big bear so those emails kept me on top of things! Our cabin #41 had a full kitchen also pots, pans, plates, glasses, utensils, soap, a sponge etc. We cooked so those things came in handy! Our cabin was also right next to all these cute gift shops and even a movie theater! On our second day we walked to the lake which was simply breathtaking. I would recommend Cabins 4 less and we will definitely be back.

Booked the place a week ago for mid Feb 2016. did the reservation on the phone for one of the cabins and was waiting for my email conf’. got the email the next day which start with «please replay with I accept in the subject line»…as i scroll down and saw that a whole family get one roll of toilet paper per bathroom and one towel… I’ve decide to cancel and that was my replay that we are not going to come we are cancelling the reservation exactly 2 days after I’ve made it and almost a MONTH before the reservation schedule for. Called on the phone the next day and the lady told me they forward my cancellation to the one who need to discuss about it?! I start to get confused since I don’t remember having problem cancelling any hotel in my life specially a month before. never the less I called again the next day to find out they don’t want to release the deposit and when I ask to speak to the supervisor I got this Ron on the line who was extremely rood and claim they loosing business and that this is there policy. I told him that each business can have any policy they want as long it been presented to the client before or during the reservation which never happen in my reservation process! this place and who ever run it is very greedy and doing wrong business wise. I told this Ron that I’m gonna dispute the charges if he is not going to refund the credit card he start yelling and hang up the phone on me which clearly show how he run his business with such class.

Sure I file a dispute and got my money from the credit card company back.
I end up booking somewhere else not too far away with a nice customer service and has it seem much better deal from every aspect.

We booked this for Christmas Eve, and the price was great! The cabin was rustic but clean, so we are very happy with our stay. The customer service was great, very friendly and informative. I highly recommend this place!

I love this place, this will the 4^th time coming up to Big Bear and I always Cabins 4 Less! I keep come back because of the beautiful veiws and the great service! I have stayed in cabins #56 #57 n twice in cabin #59 all with lake front views!
I highly recommend Cabins 4 Less, their cheap and they are reliable. I have never had a problem!

We had a great two days here in cabin 31. We had just enough room for the 4 of us. The kids slept on the futon and my husband and I had the king bed. The kids really enjoyed the playground in the shared backyard area. There is a cute gazebo and plenty of parking. The office is a short drive down the road. We rented a sled on the second day and the kids used it in the backyard area. We had minor issues with the back door not locking. Called the office and a new handle was put on within the hour.
We ate at the Aztec Mexican food restaurant our first night and cooked the second night. We did our shopping at Stater Brothers in town. The kitchen is small but had everything we needed for the 4 of us.
Shower was hot! Great after a long day on the slopes.
Remember this is a family place not a 5 hotel. We would recommend cabin 31 to other small families. Thanks for a great stay in big bear.

Thank you Cabins4Less for the perfect last minute vacation! Not only was it a GREAT deal with no outrageous cleaning fees, but the cabin was a beautiful lakefront property. I was able to book last minute and check in by 10PM. The gentleman working the front was so accommodating and even upgraded us!
We had a lovely 2 story cabin with 3 bedrooms (able to sleep 7 – 8) and 2.5 baths. Normally a place like this will cost upwards of 300 a night. The only inconvenience is you have to either being your own sheets or pay $ 7 for them. Which is nothing at all compared to the savings you are already making. We were located right next to the village and the beds even had sleep number!
This place was perfect and I will definitely stay here again. Thanks again for such a fun, low-​cost vacation!

They gave us a map for the area marked places we must visit. Also helped us find snow chains really needed those. I recommended this place and will visit again we have a 2 night set up here can’t wait to ski tomorrow, this place is fairly located. The two ladies in the office made our stay. Lots of information very friendly and the cabins are lovely !! We are very need customers but they helped us find the perfect cabin from number 2,5,17 all lovely we accepted 18 lovely place !!! I highly recommend renting a cabin from Cabins 4 Less! My boyfriend and I stayed at one of their cute and cozy cabins for Thanksgiving and it was in a perfect location, within walking distance of the village. The cabin itself was very clean and comfortable, we loved it and we definitely plan on coming back way more often now that we found a great place to rent from!

As has already been explained these aren’t luxury resorts. These are reasonably priced cabins with the basic accommodations. (Bring your own sheets and pillow cases, sleeping bags, etc.)
The kids and I stayed in cabin 11. It had what I believe was two full sized beds. A kitchen, a bathroom, a small closet/​office space.
The staff was friendly and we had a minor problem with the bathroom toilet backing up and they were very quick to respond and take care of it. (It would have been nice if they had a plunger in the restroom but no big deal.)
Wifi worked very well, good enough to stream netflix and skype call. My car broke down right in front of our cabin and I was surprised that über was working out there in Big Bear now.
The kitchen was small but it had a sink, coffee maker, fridge, and stove and a small dinette table.
The heater worked very well, almost too well, we had to open our door to let out some of the heat after it got too warm in there.
TV was a nice flat screen.
Anyway, it was a great deal and I’ll definitely be visiting again soon.

I’ve been coming here for 4 years now and each time I always have a great time with my family. I don’t understand why anyone would give them bad reviews. Everyone of the cabin and lakefront rooms I’ve stayed in are always clean and cozy and not to mention Ron and his staff are always very friendly. This place will always and be the only place I will rent cabins from when we visit big bear.

First off, as others stated, this is not a resort, not a luxury bed and breakfast, it is a few steps above «roughing it». we are spending 3 nights in cabin 1, very practical and nostalgic, you’ll have hot running water, fireplace, full kitchen. A new number bed and most importantly a secure warm place to lay your head at night. The area is very quiet at night, The staff is friendly enough, we are the only ones here now, it’s nice. I’m not sure what others were talking about but we had towels, toilet paper, sheets, and comforters clean and folded waiting for us but brought our own for comfort.
There’s a little market walking distance next door that has everything you would need to stock your kitchen, fishing tackle, boose, smores, etc…
For the price it is everything we expected, we would recommend to a friend, and we would come back. Our 3.5 year old is having a blast.

First thing to take into consideration:
This is not a hotel, a motel, resort, or b&b. Not in the slightest. Moving on.
My husband and I love big bear. We use to stay in a family friend’s cabin but we have two large breed dogs they didn’t like having around. We basically just need a place to dump our gear, shower, and cook. Most of the time we’re bumming around town or out on the lake.
The first and only time I’ve been to cabins 4 less, I went with my mom whose disabled. We stayed in cabin #4. I chose this one because it had a fenced in «yard» which was great because my dogs like to take their time going to the bathroom. We went mid week during the off season so it was incredibly quiet, we were the only ones up there. They were doing construction on another cabin that was loud but we weren’t around for long and they were gone before dark. Several things I noticed right off the bat.
–Huge gaps underneath the doors. I’m weird about bugs but seriously this place had two inch gaps under the doors. I stuffed towels under them and tried to get over it.
–The carpet underneath the bed in the bedroom was disgusting. Layers of dust and filth in a perfect rectangle under the bed. This is evident– why didn’t they clean it? I don’t get it.
— The «stove» was just a stovetop set into the laminate countertop. The counter and wall were warped from the heat. WHOA fire hazard! WHOA.
— A tunnel spider had made a nest in this place right next to the futon where I was sleeping. It would’ve been noticeable while they were cleaning, do they just not care?
— The futon cushion slid off the frame. I slept on a section of the mattress that was about the size of an army cot.
— No bath mats. Not that big of a deal but just so you know. No bath mats, just carpet, gross.
— «Complete kitchen fully equipped for cooking and serving.» Bull shit. I had to cut 4 lbs of potatoes with a steak knife with no handle. Bring your own knives. There’s no oven. Wish I would’ve known that before I brought a whole chicken up to roast. Whatever, my mistake. There is dish soap but bring your own sponge and hand towel. The sponge was so nasty.
— It’s a galley kitchen in this cabin, and was very difficult for my mother to get in and out of. A table and fridge sit to the left and the sink and stovetop to the right. There is roughly 18 inches of space between the table and stovetop.
— The cable tv you have has like, 12 channels. And it came over on the mayflower.
— Everything is outdated and kind of creepy. I don’t know about you but I don’t drive 90 miles up the mountain to stare at a wall. So who cares.
All of that being said:
I just need a place to sock out and get clean. I never get much sleep away from home so all of those things I can deal with. I just need something a level above tent camping because it gets too cold for me. The positive aspects of this place outweigh the negatives.
— There are supplies to cook with that you don’t need to bring. Pots/​pans/​cups
— Fireplace/​heater, shower with hot water, indoor toilet
— PET FRIENDLY. I’m so limited with what I can do with my dogs that are perfectly trained angels and over 40lbs. And you only pay the pet fee once.
— They have cabins in 3 separate sections of big bear. Cabin #4 is by Boulder bay. This weekend I’ll be staying in a different cabin just outside of the village for Ocktoberfest.
— Free movies for rent and amenities in the office firewood, kayaks, bikes.
— Fair price. Everything up the mountain is pricy and I’m not stingy all the time but I am on a budget. $ 99 is an ok price for a place where my dogs are welcome and I can cook my own food to save $$$. And no hidden fees! Just the nightly rate + tax.
It would be cool if they had on site laundry for the smaller cabins and maybe a designated area for dogs for the cabins with no yards. I also think it would be convenient if they made more deals with local businesses to bring their prices down. I looked at another place in big bear that had deals for Ocktoberfest + lodging which would’ve been great if they were pet friendly and not already sold out.
Another thing that baffles me are all of the negative reviews about having to transport & unload the kayaks. Hello. You’re about to engage in strenuous activity maneuvering that kayak through the water and you’re complaining about getting it there? BOOOOOOO.
One of my favorite sayings goes, «Make do, or do without.» We made do. May have taken 45 minutes to saw raw potatoes with a steak knife, but we did it! And boy were they delicious.

We stayed in unit #71. We got up the mtn. late on Friday night because of traffic so we couldn’t see much when pulling up. We did notice when we walked in that the carpet and furniture were extreamly out of date and dirty. My daughter would not sleep in the 2^nd bedroom because she said it was creepy and the whole place looked like a horror movie. We ended up taking the mattress off one of the twins bed and putting it our room so she could sleep. We brought our own sheets and towels but the blankets provided looked dirty and worn (holes, stains, etc). The bathroom was terrible! Carpet that smelled of mold and a shower that had mold and years and years of stains. The water from the shower sits in the window seal and rotted all the wood. The shower curtain was torn in multiple places and the shower head was so short I couldn’t barely fit under it and I’m only 5’5″. After showering, the carpeted floor was soaking wet. I opened the window to get some fresh air but there was no screen on the window. The bathroom seemed dark and then we noticed one of the lights didn’t have a bulb in it. We had to grab a bulb from the bedroom to have enough light in the bathroom.
The TV was already small but then only half of the screen worked so it was almost imposable to watch anything. The couches were so dirty, the only way to sit on them was to put your sheets on them. The kitchen wasn’t usable at all. There was no way I was going to cook on the stove when it was so close to the wall. There were no hand towels or paper towels. In order to use the cups or utensils, we had to rewash them because they were dirty.
The patio was very dirty and the bench wasn’t usable because it was broken and unstable. The entire cabin was a disappointment and is not worth the amount charged (almost $ 400 for two nights). I texted the number provided to explain these issues and was told at 9pm at night that we could leave for a refund for our second night. We had plans the next day or we would have gone home. Not only did we spend a lot of money but we weren’t able to use the kitchen as we intended because it was not functional.
I emailed the owner Ron and received one of the rudest, unprofessional emails I have ever gotten that basically said «we don’t claim to be the Hilton». He said he would not issue any credits and to please not contact him again inregards to our stay. We paid $ 189 a night so I would expect at least 3 star accommodations.
Please don’t waste your time, money and frustrations on this place!

Saw a groupon deal for this place and thought we check it out. The staffs are nice but a real downer is to have to drag the darn 2 or 3 people kayak which is secured on two wheel trailer down hill, unload it and push it into the water. Then after you are finished you have to pull it back out of water and load it back onto the two wheel trailer. Worst part is dragging it now uphill and walk 5 minutes back to the place you got it from. The kayaks should be placed by the launch area! This dragging the kayaks up and down hill is crazy.
I saw a place that also has kayak rentals later but much more convenient where the kayaks are by the water.
Besides the process it was good.

Our cabin was super cute and cozy! Loved the spa and the location! It was a great summer getaway for my husband and I!

Excellent place to stay, as long as you understand what a cabin actually is. Don’t expect a five star resort, because that’s clearly not what this place is supposed to be. The stand alone cabin#2 was small but very charming. The location of the cabins couldn’t be better, the well water was good. The room stayed cool during the day and the fireplace warmed the whole place up nicely at night.
This isn’t the place to go if you want to party, or expect a million dollar house on a studio apt budget. The area was quiet, close to the village, but far enough that we didn’t have to wait three hours for breakfast. The tv was small but that’s not what you’re there for. The kitchen was well stocked, they provided free firewood, there was plenty of hot water, everything was very clean and the staff was incredibly nice. They offered us free kayaks or bikes which looked to be in good condition. We declined the offer because we had other plans, but it was great to stay in a place that is upfront about the cost of your stay, and doesn’t charge an arm and a leg. The lake was a two minute walk away, and you pass a convenience store and a restaurant on the way. We didn’t have to get back in the car the whole trip except to hit the brewery.
We found out on our last night there that there are numbers near the front door for some different restaurants in the area that deliver. There’s also a number for a beer and wine delivery service. We didn’t get to try that, that’s what our next visit is for.
We will be coming back here again and again. Our stay was as easy, inexpensive, fun, and cheap as anyone could ask for.
