The TOMOKO Story

In 1999, Tomoko Kurono set out with a simple mission: Search every corner of the world for the perfect treatment – a massage that could truly remove negative energy from her body and renew her spirit. She would know when she’d found it, having been born to a mother who was her village’s healer in Osaka, Japan. Tomoko was raised with a deep understanding of the healing powers of chi (blood) and khi (energy).

She found that many massage therapists possessed expert technique, but none offered a combination of technique and soul. The healing powers of a massage therapist who gives from the heart far surpass the benefits of technique alone.

Tomoko’s calling was clear. The next chapter of her journey would be to develop a new, unparalleled massage therapy that alleviated pain and promoted relaxation more effectively than a purely physical treatment. «I learned to do good for people,» she recalls, «To transcend physical technique and truly give from my heart.»

My boyfriend booked a couples massage for us as a Christmas gift. I’d never had a massage or been to a spa before, so this was an incredible treat for us both.
We were running a few minutes late, but the staff was incredibly accommodating since we called to let them know. Everything was absolutely amazing. The first thing I noticed upon entering was how AMAZING the establishment smells. Everything is so calming. The scent, the music, the lighting…
We were served a black tea, some detox water and a couple of fine chocolates. It was a nice way to «warm up» for the experience. We were then led back to our suite and introduced to our massage therapists. We started off with ginger tea and a foot bath/​massage, and then went to our tables for the ~main event~. Everything was perfect. I had a male massage therapist and my boyfriend had a female one. Mine kept checking in with me ever-​so-​often to make sure that the pressure was correct, and also asking me if there were any areas I wanted him to focus on. The style of massage was so unique! There were hot stones and lots of interesting techniques used to really get into my trouble spots (shoulders!!). I felt incredible at the end. I also had a very bruised foot and my therapist took note of that without me mentioning it, and was delicate around that area while doing my foot massage. I appreciated the light stretching as well.
Once the massage was over, we rinsed off in the waterfall shower and then climbed into the hot bath to relax before our sushi meal. The tub was already filled when we arrived, and ~2 hours later it was still PIPING HOT when we got in. It was quite the pleasant surprise.
The sushi was spectacular but my favorite part of the entire meal was the mochi. I’ve only ever had the Trader Joe’s ice cream variety and this was nothing like it. I need to find more!
To round out the experience, we were led back into the lobby and served a strong, sweet tea and a small candy.
Overall the entire 3.5 hours we spent at Tomoko were incredibly from top to bottom. I fear I am ruined for any spa experiences in the future. I HIGHLY recommend.

Possibly the best massage and spa experience I have ever had — and I have had massages all around the country and the world. Tomoko Japanese Spa seems to think of everything in order to make you feel calm upon your arrival, during your massage and after your massage. As soon as you enter the spa, you feel as though you are in another part of the country — everything from the gentle nature of the spa attendants, to the lighting, ambience, etc.
Some details that are really stood out: The private showers in the massage room, the foot massage pre-​service, the fact that they have a button in the massage room for you to press to indicate you are ready for the therapist to enter — and the biggest thing for me that I have never experienced before — post massage, you are invited to sit in the lounge again, brought tea, and a snack, AND your bill is brought to you. This may seem like a small gesture but to me it makes a HUGE difference to not have the zen feeling post massage be interrupted by standing at a counter, shuffling through your wallet to pay for the service.
The only slight downside is the parking, but there is a garage on Beverly only a block away. And yes, it’s pricier than most massages, but I’d much rather have the occasional indulgence here than be a regular at another spa. This is for sure, my new top-​rated place. If you’re looking to make someone you love feel special — get them a gift certificate from here!

I’ve been to 5 star resort spas all over the world to over 15 countries. This was a birthday present I received and it was so perfect. Everything from the time we arrived to the finish was perfect. The little chocolates, the teas, the Japanese style slippers and ropes, the Japanese bath, the massage. I would definitely recommend!!!

Perfect Japanese couples experience to celebrate a special birthday, and the end of 2015. The interiors of the spa are what my Claudio Silvestrin dreams are made of and what I’ve always aspired to recreate in my [future] Palm Springs condo. The staff is kind and the therapists are very talented and amazing at their craft — one of the best massages ever!
Because we like to indulge, an extra order of sushi was ordered for lunch in the Japanese suite after the relaxation period. You can’t go wrong with extra Sugarfish sushi YUM! The ladies at the reception are so gracious and very hospitable. Tomoko Spa is truly unforgettable and an experience for all your senses.
I can’t wait to return for MY birthday…

Today I turn 29 years old. My wonderful boyfriend booked a reservation for a couple spa treatment. Our reservation was scheduled at 6:30pm on a Thursday night. We were running about ten minutes late, so we called to let them know. The lady on the phone was so courteous and informed us that we could park in the employee lot. When we arrived, the lady met us in the parking lot and walked us inside Tomoko. Inside was beautiful and it had a wonderful ambience. They had us remove our shoes and put on the slippers they had for us. We were then asked to walk inside where there was tea and chocolates waiting for us. They had us fill out a page of what kind level massage we wanted and our preference, my boyfriend and I both opted for the deep #5. After we finished, they directed us to a private suite with two massage beds, closets for your close and personals, a wooden bath, shower and a floor set up for tea and dinner.
Our amazing experience began with changing into the cute robes they provided. Once ready we pressed the button by the massage bed to let them know we were ready. They brought us more tea while they proceeded with the foot massage. After the foot massage they asked us to move to the beds to start the massage. I have to say this is one of the best massages I’ve ever had. I’ve had my share of massages and this one was the best! The shower was so relaxing, they provided natural organic products. After the shower, we got to relax in the wooden bath, which I totally loved! Didn’t want to get out of it. Moving on to dinner (sugar fish) was top notch! Everything was so good and we even had dessert which consisted of green tea cake, jelly and this fucking amazing mochi with mango and cream inside. It was so good, I wanted more and more! I need to find those! If anyone knows, please share! We ended the spa with more tea and chestnut cookie.
I would definitely recommend this place! I love it here, I never want to leave thank you Tomoko spa!

Phenomenal spa experience. I’ve been to incredible spas all over the world: from Europe to Asia to South America. This is a very special spa and my favorite to date, particularly the couples Japanese experience with sushi.
Your experience begins in the lobby where they remove your shoes. You’re then escorted to the lounge and given a soothing tea and excellent chocolate.
After filling out your preferences, you are taken to the room. You slip into a Japanese style robe and press the button to alert your therapist that you’re ready for your treatment.
The treatment begins with a heavenly foot bath and foot massage. This is followed by a full body massage, Japanese bath and a lunch complete with sugar fish and Japanese sweets.
The massage itself was the best I’ve had. It’s such a relaxing experience and I love that after the massage you’re able to relax with bath and lunch rather than rush out of the room.
I already booked my next appointment! It’s pricey — but I am hoping they will offer some sort of membership program with reduced rates. That would help!

Wow, I don’t know where to begin with this spa. All I can say is that it is by far the best spa experience I have ever had. I have been to the best of them as I travel a lot and always end up having a spa experience. Now I know I have the best spa ever right in my backyard.
The only issue I had was the lack of parking. I called the spa to ask if they could suggest a place to park and the woman who answered the phone said she would be happy to run out and wait for me, then open the gate to the employee parking lot and have me park there for free. She was lovely and so accomodating. What an awesome thing for her to do. I was so impressed.
The 2 ladies who greeted me are beautiful Japanese ladies. I was served some lemon water, hot tea and 2 pieces of chocolate before my massage. I had the Oriental massage which begins with a foot soak and foot massage… Oooohhh La La! Unreal… The actual massage was very deep. I must have really needed it because it felt so good. My massage therapist went to great lengths to make sure I was happy with his work… I was!
After the massage I was given a piece of soft coconut pastry… ummm so delicious, I wanted more. I was also served another delectible treat which I think was also made from coconut and some green tea and lemon water. So fabulous. I floated out of there and felt like a very relaxed queen! I went home and slept like a baby.
This place is the ultimate spa experience. Is it expensive? Heck yeah, but you get what you pay for. So go ahead and treat yourself. You deserve it! I will definetely be back.

I recently brought my boyfriend here as a belated-​birthday gift and we had an incredible experience! The absolute top-​notch service, chic interior design with touches of Japanese essence in each direction, subtle aromas and dim lighting provide the perfect relaxation experience.
We received the Zenshin couples massage, as well as the Ofuro Japanese bath (before our massage). After some detox water in the lounge, the ladies led us to the room where we were to enjoy our treatments. They presented us with some ginger tea and hot water. The bath was already drawn (beautiful wooden Japanese bath tub), so we soaked for about 20 minutes before lying down for our massages. There was a button to let the staff know we were ready for the massages to begin. Our masseuses soon entered, gave us a brief introduction, and began some of the most wonderful massages we have EVER experienced. Wow.
I can not say enough good things about our experience at Tomoko. I appreciate their professionalism and attention to detail (btw – upon arrival we were instructed to fill out a short questionnaire, in which we indicated the amount of pressure we’d like to be used, as well as areas to focus on).
Each moment we spent at Tomoko was phenomenal. We will definitely be back.
Lastly, they even presented my boyfriend with a gorgeous, hand-​written card wishing him a happy birthday and thanking him for coming in. Nice touch!

Outstanding! This review is a little late. My husband and I booked a couples massage here a few months back. As soon as we walked we were treated like royalty. Wow! I can’t recommend this spa enough. I do want to warn that this is not the kind of spa that has your usual spa amenities like a sauna or steam room etc. it honestly doesn’t matter at all with the kind of service you will get. Our suite had a shower, a wooden bath tub, and massage tables. Before we began they served us tea that they explained is good before a massage along with some chocolate. They took us to our private suite and explained our treatments. They never rushed us and told us to take our time. We took a bath in the tub… Oh my god… Ahhmazing. After showering we buzzed them and they came in and gave us foot massages and foot soak. I was totally out of it by then. I was just so relaxed… I remember my therapist asking me a simple question and I couldn’t even speak properly lol.
After that they gave us some time and then we buzzed them in for our massage. Massage was good. Since I’m super picky I will say it was good. Not the best I’ve had but good. My husband loved his so much it was hard for him to get up after the massage. After our treatments they served us sushi and tea. Such a nice touch. We left feeling like we were floating and we will definitely be back again. It is truly an extraordinary experience.

I have been to a lot of different spas, and this is my favorite. From the second you walk in, the hustle of Beverly Hills seems like miles away. The staff are gracious, ceremonial even, and the décor will have you planning a home makeover. You only live once, indulge.
Pro tip: Book Mina. She’s a little ball of muscle who works out the most stubborn knots with finesse.

Is this real life? You step into a whole different world when you come here. I was surprised by my amazing boyfriend who brought here on my birthday on Sunday.
As I stepped into the «store» I almost couldn’t recognize where I was at. The pristine floor and the light colored walls transformed my perception and I wasn’t sure where I was at the moment. Then as I slowly saw the softly lit candles I had a feeling we were at a massage/​spa place.
We walked into a waiting room where we got to change into Japanese slippers and sip on lemon detox water and enjoy a mouthwatering chocolate mint truffle. There was a faux fireplace but it was beautiful. The tranquility of the room made you feel like you were in an exclusive private waiting room. You will start to relax and your mind will be at ease.
Finally, we are led into our private spa suite. Everything was so clean and neat. The service is impeccable here. I noticed every little detail and just couldn’t believe I was really there to experience this.
Once you change into your Japanese type kimono clothing, they will give you an amazing 15 minute hot water foot massage. An eucalyptus pillow will wrap around your neck to help you be comfortable.
Then the whole experience continues. The soft supple hands massaged down my back. I fall into a relaxing mode and just hoped the night never ends. After the one hour of pure satisfaction, you get to shower and walk back to the enchanting waiting room.
Once here you are greeted with orange mochi, and green tea. At the end of the night, they had sent me home with a beautiful Japanese handkerchief for my birthday. The whole experience here was beyond amazing. The staff here are so sweet and very accomodating.
I can’t wait to bring my parents here. Truly, this place is a hidden gem and definitely worth the experiecne!

Scheduled a massage for my mom and i since the reviews were sooo out of this world.
As we walked in … we immediately felt the calm and peaceful environment. We were nicely greeted by the girl at the reception and soon asked us to remove our shoes and onto their japanese slippers. We went into the waiting room where they served us water, tea and mint chocolate.
Then we filled out the typical paper work and was soon sent off to our rooms.
The rooms were soo big and just soo nice. Each room had their own shower. so that was a plus!
The massage itself was different… i never really a Japanese massage but it was pretty good. very firm and relaxing.
at the end of our massage, we were offered a chestnut cake pastry and a mango mochi! man the mango mochi!!! was OUT OF THIS WORLD! i would go back for that. its really good
The reasons why i didnt give this place a 5 star was b/​c they didnt have a brush for women. it seemed like the amenities were more catered to men… ie shavers/​comb/​etc.
This was priced more than the spa’s in vegas where they had other amenities. like sauna/​steam room. this was only for massage and no place to relax after the session.

This is seriously the best spa I’ve ever been to. And I have been to many places which were way more expensive than this place. The nicest people work here. Every corner of this place is super clean. The therapists are very professional. Me and my bf had their Japanese experience couple package. Both of us fell asleep while getting our massage. I visited Tomoka Spa for the first (but definitely not the last time this afternoon). It was the absolute best experience! If you’d like respite from the stress of daily living and are seeking the most professional and refined spa experience, Tomoka Spa is THE place to go.
Some highlights that set Tomoko apart from other spas…
1. The ambience: you will be fully immersed in the Japanese culture from the moment you walk in the door. From the greetings by staff, tea pouring ritual, artwork and décor and music to the most authentic and therapeutic massage, every aspect of the spa gives you the sense that you are in Japan. Did I mention the Japanese wood bath? Awesome!
2. The refreshments: the hot teas, carefully flavored water with citrus peel ice cubes, to flavored aloe, chocolate truffles, and mochi – all organic, authentic and super tasty
3. The cultured courtesy and skill of the staff: authentic shiatsu, deep tissue Japanese style massage from the most highly trained massage therapists.

Omgosh. Thank God. This place is so incredible. So relaxing the moment you step in, they take your shoes off and leads you away from the chaos of life and into the serenity that is Tomoko Spa. Serene, peaceful, indulgent, all words that come to mind in a place like this. The staff is really what makes this incredible escape. Thanks Mune and the girls!!!
Walk through:
First got through the door and a beautiful little asian lady came and took me and hubby’s shoes off and replaced them with Japanese slippers, the place was super quiet and everyone speaks in low gentle voices.
She leads us into the waiting lounge as we wait for our guide/​masseuse. While we wait she puts hot towels around our hands then neck. She brings us a tray with a delicate piece of chocolate mint, tea, and peppermint water. All for the purpose to help relax you.
Then the masseuse guides us into our room. Oh the room. On one side is a glass separating the cedar bath tub filled and ready with flowers floating in the water as well as a waterfall shower.
The music that lingers in the air just sets the atmosphere right and you forget you were just out in traffic in Los Angeles.
After undressing into our Japanese robes, we are prompted to ring a bell which lets them know we are ready. That’s when the fun begins. The masseuse comes in and soaks our feet in lavender oil and water, which fragrance the air just right for stress relieving aroma therapy. After the feet massage we lay in the massage bed and just subject ourselves to indulgence beyond the imagination.
I felt like I was melting into the massage bed. It’s the staff and the way this place is run that brought about this review.
They paid attention to detail worked out the knots in my back and custom fit the massage for me. If you want a good massage that will removes the kinks n knots come here!!!
After the massage, I felt dazed and relaxed and the cherry on top of the icing was the surprise sushi delight!!! The girls brought in a tray of sushi and edamame and finished us off with desert and citrus tea!!! What a blessing from the Lord.

From the reception, to the lounge and to your room you just feel like you’re in Japan.
The tea at the lounge, the massage in your room and your desert after the treatment was just excellent.
