The Bazaar by José Andrés

Unless you’ve already signed the contract to be on the cast of «Molecular Gastronomy,» already billed by critics to be bigger than the Big Bang, you will be impressed with this restaurant. I know it’s a restaurant, though try to get out of your seats. Maybe even meander over to SAAM. The décor and whimsical layout are worth exploring during your visit. Even if you are the anonymous artist in residence, you must still pay your respects to Philippe Starck. There will be plenty of time to assess brine and contemplate the texture of the fabricated olives. The service is very formal and not rushed. Time you have.

We came here for our anniversary and it was great! They have two separate dining areas, one for the meal, and one for dessert. The dessert area also houses their gift shop which is full of very funny and unique things to look at while waiting for your table. Our waiter was great and offered wonderful recommendations. Everything except the marshmallows were perfect and I would definitely order them again. The marshmallows were very moist and spongy, and the flavors were a bit strange for me. Everything else was wonderful with my favorites being the seared wagyu beef cheeks and the philly cheesesteak. Dinner came out to be $ 145 before tip. Each dish was pretty small, but we were actually quite full afterwards. This visit was a very pleasant one after a string of bad dining experiences.
Added bonus is Gyu-​Kaku is right next door, and has a good happy hour if you want to grab a drink after dinner.

I visited LA back in April for a work trip, but I stayed an extra day in search of good eats. Luckily, my brother lives in LA and knew just the place. He got us a reservation for 3 people at 6:30pm with just a few days’ notice and really hyped this place up. I’ve read all the amazing Unilocal reviews and was so excited to try it out for myself.
We arrived at The Bazaar by José Andrés at around 6:15pm and had the car valeted for $ 17. Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately fascinated by the ambiance. On one side was the restaurant and on the other there was a display of antiques and quirky collectibles.
We were seated right away and I had no idea what to order, so I left that up to my brother and his fiancé since they’d been here a few times before. I can’t even begin to describe how amazing, in terms of both presentation and taste everything was. I wish I could remember the names of everything we ordered, but from what I remember, I would HIGHLY recommend trying the following:
— Not Your Everyday Caprésé (Cherry tomatoes, liquid mozzarella)
— Tortilla De Patatas «New Way”* (Potato foam, egg 63, caramelized onions)
— «Philly Cheesesteak» (Air bread, cheddar, wagyu beef)
— American Sturgeon Caviar (Crème fraîche, steamed buns & lemon air)
— Cotton Candy Foie Gras
— Grilled Spanish Octopus (Caramelized onions, chicken escabeche, cherry tomatoes)
— Wild Mushroom Rice (Idiazábal cheese)

As typical tapas go, the plates were pretty pricey. HOWEVER, these dishes were completely worth the money (no joke), and I would eat this all over again. My 2 favorite dishes of the night were the Cotton Candy Foie Gras and the Philly Cheesesteak. The Cotton Candy Foie gras is literally as it name suggests. Foie gras wrapped in Cotton Candy that literally melts in your mouth at first bite. The Philly Cheesesteak is probably the best thing I’ve ever eaten. All you need to know is wagyu and extremely melted cheese on a light airy bread. Inexplicable sensation but yet so amazing. I can’t wait for my next visit to LA… I’m definitely coming back and will be dreaming about the Philly Cheesesteak and Cotton Candy Foie Gras until then!

I came here last night (June 10^th 2016) for my husband’s birthday and now I’m in LOVE with this place:)) I LOVED everything!!! Food was amazing. Every single detail was executed so perfectly. My most favorite dish was beef tartar or caviar cone. Grilled octopus was also really good but the dish I least cared was Wagyu cheek. Everyone here treated us nice and made us feel very welcomed.
Almost everything went great. except that our server disappeared. She was very nice and attentive through the dinner but after she said she’ll go set up a table for desert she NEVER CAME BACK. We were stranded for like 15 – 20 mins. we thought she was supposed to come back to take us there. Desert section wasn’t full. There were a bunch of available tables… She literally disappeared for an half hour. I was like. did she go home? It was late like 11. but who would leave customers like that and took off? then she showed up along with a couple who were dining next to us but didn’t come to say anything to us. I wasn’t upset so much but just very curious what happened to her. .Other people took care of us nicely so I didn’t really care. but she made us wonder what happened… where was she.

If there’s one thing I learned from my dining experience here, it’s that The Bazaar is a lounge first, and a restaurant *second*. Even by tapas-​format restaurant standards, the rate of delivery of plates seemed to be rather slow. Don’t come here by yourself, or you’ll be languishing away on your phone in short order.
I enjoyed and recommend the following dishes without any reservations:

As you might expect, the portions are small, and pricing is exorbitant relative to said portions. You’re paying more for intricate presentation (and to a lesser extent in my opinion, food quality) than anything else.
The service here was friendly and attentive, and left no cause for complaint (if one overlooks the leisurely pace at which the dishes were delivered).
The ambiance is louder than one might expect.
I eschewed the valet parking, and scored a free parking space on the curb not even a block down (on Clifton Way) with minimal effort.
The seats are pretty comfortable — count your blessings for that, because you’ll really need comfortable seating for the long wait in-​between food deliveries to your table.
The post-​modernistic design of the restroom was pretty awesome … except for the mirrors on *every* wall. That part was was admittedly a bit disconcerting.
I’m not going to lie — ~$ 300 later (for 4 of us), I was still hungry after I left and went home. Maybe I’m just an unsophisticated slack-​jawed yokel, but I would honestly have been happier with a $ 7 Com Suon plate at my favorite local Vietnamese eatery (tie/​win for palatability, win for value, win for wait, win for portion size, lose for presentation/​exotic appeal). But of course, we’re talking two completely different types of establishments, with two completely different customer bases.
Overall, not bad for what it is, but I wasn’t blown away by my experience here, and feel no overwhelming urge to return here anytime soon. Having said that, if you’re more accustomed to fine dining than I am, you may experience greater appreciation for The Bazaar than that which I did.

Food was just okay to me. Served tapas style, which was good to get a variety. But the plates are so small there’s no room to share or even get full off of one, or even 2. Been to other high-​end restaurants where the food was amazing and worth what I paid for them. Dessert was amazing. I probably would come back just for the dessert. They were very flavorful. I probably wouldn’t come back to eat dinner though. There just wasn’t much to set them apart from other restaurants.
Staff was very attentive to us, made sure we were always okay.

We stopped drinking a year ago, since the lifestyle is unhealthy. This was the first alcoholic drink we had in a year. I got the Passion Fruit Up. It was delicious. Sip Liquor Slowly was on the drink napkins… True. It will kick you right in the dick. The passion fruit foam was like drinking a baby piece of heaven with each sip. Mike got the East Bay 44 and was super happy with it. The only complaint was that we were ignored for 30 minutes, while every other table around us were greeted and their orders were taken. This only happened the first night we went. The next night, we had a sweetheart of a waitress. The low key, dark environment was perfect for a nightcap. Worth the $ 18 dollars per drink.

I went here for dinner to celebrate my best friend’s engagement. We didn’t say that when the reservation was made, but the server took mental note and put a cute candle in one of our desserts at the end of our meal.
What a great dining experience! The décor is artsy and gorgeous, it’s loud and energetic, and the customer service was outstanding. Within five minutes of sitting down, three different servers/​employees greeted us.
Since it was tapas style all items were quite small. Perfect for my group because we love to order tons of items and taste everything. The highlights were the wagyu, crab and philly cheese steak! The desserts were also creative and tasty. I recommend going to look at the dessert display before ordering since we «eat with our eyes». It provides a better idea of what you’re ordering versus the menu description.

We visited Bazaar during Dine LA and enjoyed an amazing 9 course meal.
If you are looking for fine dining and are willing to pay for it, this is definitely the place for you.
Not only was it classy and had amazing service but the food spoke for itself. Every bite popped with flavor and left a lasting impression. My favorite dishes were the octopus salad, foie gras cotton candy and their version of shrimp ceviche.
Dress up, show up and eat up. So delicious and highly recommended.

What I love about high-​end restaurants is that they aren’t just catering customers to delicious food, but the experience itself. I had a great time.
I walked in, immediately fell in love with the décor. It was huge, and so romantic. The lighting was perfect in there for me to take pictures of my food. (Food Blogger problems)
I started off with the New York Sour. Presentation was great, it tasted great. Our server was extremely friendly, she helped us with everything. Ah, I cannot remember her name… I wish I did. We had the option to try small tapas for $ 100 each person, but I had some items on the menu that did not sound appetizing for me. So we, my boyfriend and I, ordered a few items on the regular menu, and I did not regret anything.

Beef Tartare — You can already tell the meat is going to be amazing by their marbling. I loved the idea of the Kimchi chips with the Raw Beef. It did remind me of the Korean dish Raw Beef Tartare, but a different take.
Seared Scallops — Comes with two beautifully seared scallops. I’m not sure what was coated on top of the scallops, but the combination itself played out very well. And it melted in my mouth like butter. I love perfectly cooked Scallops. I must learn from the chefs to
Wild Mushroom Risotto — WOW. Just wow. I was very iffy on this because I am not a fan of mushrooms. But our server said there are only bits of mushroom in the risotto. So I gave it a try and it was my FAVORITE dish of the night. I needed some spice so I asked for Tabasco… I know… They did not have any so she offered two different options. One was their representation of hot sauce and another one was a spice, which I preferred better. So, I mixed the spice with my risotto… To complete my Asian appetite. Haha.
Japanese Taco — Oh yum. The eel was so soft, I loved the wrap along with it.
Uni Bun — My boyfriend loved it. But I don’t like Uni… So I didn’t try it!
Secreto — MUST TRY. It was either the Tomahawk or the Secreto. It is a skirt steak… But it was very different from the skirt steaks I have ever tried. Even the fat was so tasty, I was loving it. It did say on the menu it is for 4 people. But we finished it. I would say for 2… Keep in mind that we ordered a lot of other food as well.
Then, I ordered some Redbreast 12 Yr. One of my favorite Whiskey.
We were moved to the dessert section after our meal. I really liked the idea of it. I was too full to even touch the dessert. But we had three different desserts. I forget their names cause I just remember talking to myself how full I was.

I was dying to try out this restaurant for a while, so when my girlfriend was visiting from out of state, I decided to gather everyone and come here!
The interior of the dining room we were seated in didn’t really impress me, and the placement of our table was a bit awkward considering it was next to a weird pillar and a stack of plates on a platter.
Onward to the food!
Meh. We each had different tastes, so we only shared a couple of the tapas. Their menu is split up into two — traditional tapas and modern tapas.
We ordered the chicken croquettas, caviar cone, steamed uni buns, beet salad, seared rabbit, seared scallops, mushrooms with rice, seared spanish octopus, and the seared wagyu beef cheeks. I’ll talk about the ones I tried below.
The steamed uni buns were pretty good. I thought the jalapeño they added in was a bit odd, but actually made the flavor all come together. I would probably recommend getting this one!
The seared scallops were a bit salty for me, but the flavor of it was good.
The seared spanish octopus — honestly, I’ve had better and expected more from The Bazaar. I was super sad about being let down for this one
The seared Wagyu beef cheeks — WAAY too chewy for me. All my friends agreed that they probably wouldn’t get this in the future. ALSO SAD.
I got the ‘Magic Mojito’ too and thought the tableside service would’ve been more of a spectacle, but it was literally the waitress pouring liquid (or whatever it was) to dissolve my cotton candy. BOO. I really just wanted to see something cool with that $ 17 I paid.
Overall considering the price and the okay flavor of the food (minus the tapas presentation which was pretty cool) I probably wouldn’t come back to this restaurant for a while. I REALLY wanted to love it, but I didn’t. Sorry Jose Andres :(

This place was pretty pricey I will say. Overall, it warrants a visit back… Just out of curiosity though and also for events.
Atmosphere: social setting. The atmosphere was fun and quite noisy. The servers were attentive to your needs and they were helpful.
The food was great. The foie gras soup was delicious. The Philly cheesesteak was just perfection. It oozed cheese on the inside so be careful.
Cons:
One of my toast came out soft and chewy instead of light and crispy.
The food look a very long time to come out and the areas we were sitting at got hot pretty fast. We sat at the chef’s table.
The Dungenous crab was too salty for me.
The seared rabbit was a disappointment.
Also the mushroom soup was not what I envisioned it to me.
Our particular waiter was actually pretty hard to reach if he doesn’t past by your table.
We ordered 2 grams of truffle, not the 4 grams that they charged us.

Jose Andres is one of my favorite chefs so it was a no brainier I would visit Tres on my visit to LA. Each of Jose Andres restaurants have a different theme. The Bazaar is known for tapas and Tres offers entrees. Each of the items we had were good.
Starters:
**Ahi Tuna**Ceviche my favorite of all dishes
**Hummus, Tzatziki and Baba Ghanoush**Good, but forgettable.
Entrees:
Pappardelle: very good dish
Chorizo Hash: good, more of a breakfast dish
Overall Tres was very good, but not my favorite of Jose Andres restaurants.

Aside from watching the bartender make my Magic Mojito, there was nothing to like here.
At first glance, all I saw were a bunch of guys trying to hit on girls inside the bar/​lounge or what have you. Women sitting on couches making out with men while the other woman waits her turn… yeah, no thanks.
All I wanted to do was try my first nitrogen drink. The Magic Mojito. We didn’t know where in the menu to look so we tried to get the lady bartender’s attention. Without looking up at us, she told us, «a male bartender will be with you shortly.» Fabulous. After 2 drinks, we were on our way out.
The place is beautiful, nice décor. But that’s all.

Three stars instead of two because of the cool décor and location.
I didn’t make a reservation but I did come not too long after they opened.
One word describes the girls at the hostess stand — PRETENTIOUS
It took about two minutes (I wish I was lying) to be acknowledged as a human being looking to satisfy one of the needs on Maslows hierarchy.
Once the host decided she was available or wanted to get us out of the way — we asked for a table and she said that there’s nothing until at least 10 PM that night and we’d need to sit at the chef’s table which is basically one notch up from sitting at the bar.
We didn’t want to wait 5 hours for an actual table so we settled for the chef’s table.
The server was alright but I could tell he was particular about certain things. When we ordered he made the sly comment of wanting us to take our time and order all of our tapas at once instead of one by one (I found that a bit off).
Anyways. We ordered the chicken croquettas which were saltier than any slim im you’d find at any gas station… couldn’t finish them. A+ for presentation, as they came in a clear sneaker — or modern Cinderella shoe. F– for taste.
Ordered some Spanish tuna fish that had mayo in it — reminded me of cat food.
Ordered a caprese salad which was the best caprese salad I have had to date.
Ordered the ‘philly cheesesteak’ that was also HELLA salty. I felt so full of sodium and dehydrated between this dish and the croquettas.
And lastly, ordered the brussel sprouts with lemon air — meh.
I wouldn’t waste my time or money on this place again. Sorry but LA has way more to choose from and I’d like to actually take my time and have a positive experience instead of feeling like I’m bothering staff.

I can’t believe after numerous times I’ve eaten here I’ve never written a review!
First I must say I am a huge fan of Jose Andres, I have eaten at almost all his restaurants from Vegas, to LA to Washington DC and The Bazaar is by far my favorite.
Last night we had drinks at Bar Centro and ordered bites from the bar menu which is a smaller version of the The Bazaar’s menu hence why my pictures are limited. I will for sure go back and again and eat at the actual restaurant and share more photos!
You can’t go wrong with The Bazaar. From the gorgeous ambiance of the SLS Hotel, to the impeccable service, to the mind blowing drinks (try the liquid nitrogen Caipirinha) and the unforgettable, equally mind blowing food! You won’t even believe what you’ve just eaten!
Do yourself a favor, go, eat here, order everything and enjoy every single bite. You won’t regret it!
P. S. It’s expensive. I mean really expensive but its worth it. Promise!

Easily one of my favorite restaurants in LA!
So maybe I’m a bit biased because I have always been a huge fan of Jose Andres. We came during DineLA restaurant week to take advantage of the great deals. The interior of the restaurant is tastefully decorated.
We each ordered 3 – 4 small tapas plates to share. Everything was beautifully presented, and very delicious. I’m always impressed by Jose Andres’ creativity and his attention to detail. Dinner isn’t just about the food, it’s about the experience, and he truly understands that! Alot of his signature dishes are on the menu, such as the cotton candy foie gras, which is always a favorite.
The service was good for the most part, with a couple times where I requested a utensil and it took a while for our waiter to bring it to us. Perhaps due to DineLA, the service also seem very rushed. Parking is $ 13 at the hotel, valet only. We did not see any street parking nearby. Bathrooms are clean.

Because I have been to few places that are operated by Jose, I expected more.
We had caprese salad, philly steak and cheese, potato dish, cotton candy foie gras and acorn fed jarmon.
Maybe its because we were at few of best restaurants in Barcelona not too long ago, but this place was horrible.
Everything was extremely salty and american dishes. Philly steak and cheese were sooo salty and overpriced. I can make that.
Caprese salad was actually refreshing. That one was okay. Foie gras was cooked average wrapped with cotton candy, nothing special.
Jamon was not good either. It definitely tasted different from ones he has at other stores (jamon from Spain– acorn fed too). It did not have fresh cured taste.
I liked the wine flight though. And guys who mixes the magic drink (?) and delivers food were very friendly.
All in all– good atmosphere, good service. It is a restaurant that tries to be hip, more of fusion (but not good at mixing asian flavor for some dishes) and overpriced for the quality… I miss acorn fed portugese black pig jarmon! Quality of Jamon @ this place is below average. How can this place have more than 3 stars! Will never come back again.

Absolutely obsessed with this restaurant. From the moment you walk in to the time you are seated to when you receive each course, I wanted the experience to never end! Mind you, this dinner was probably one of the most expensive I’ve had, but I left the Bazaar in a dream like state as each course was impeccable and unique in its own way.
The atmosphere is very mellow and dark and the menu is a bit over the top and a little unnecessary but the food is amazing and I did not leave unsatisfied. For our dinner, we ordered the 18-​course menu. Each dish full of flavor, my favorite was the philly cheese steak and cotton candy foie gras! The Waygu beef cheeks were also delicious. Each dish was unbelievably unique in presentation.
The service was pretty good, I would say there were a few moments when I felt we were waiting on our servers, but the food and drinks made up for it. I definitely plan on celebrating my next birthday dinner here!

The Bazaar is, hmmmm what can I say, no ordinary restaurant for sure!!! I had a very fun, interactive and BIZARRE dining experience here!
First off, all the decorations and furniture were a beautiful treat to my eyes. The place was filled with museum-​like showcases, eccentric table centerpieces, colorful seating, crystals, and more. The ambiance was very hip and modern in certain parts yet had a luxurious (ladies, please check out the restroom) and old-​world glamor feel in other areas. It appeared to me that those celebrating special occasions and preferring some quietness were seated in a particularly classy and formal section and those that were there to just hang loose with their friends were placed into cooler and louder areas. Then there were those one-​off places that were sort of secluded and hidden (hmmm maybe for celebrities??) You kind of have to walk around and explore every bit of the place, sit everywhereeee and touch everythingggg (if at all possible) to really appreciate the thought that went into its intricate architecture and design.
Now on to the food. First, let me say that the drink we got in the beginning and the dessert we got at the end were super imaginative and molecular gastronomic. The magic mojito basically starts off as a cotton candy then turns into a drink. The dessert we got was called «nitro coconut floating island» and cooked in liquid nitrogen — perfectly soft on the inside and frozen on the outside. Yummmmm!!! As far as the food items we got in between, they were generally not memorable at all. Actually out of like eight tapas we got, the only item we would order again is the Philly cheesesteak. I can totally understand the people who knocked this place down with low ratings, mostly due to the lackluster food items and their exorbitant prices (expect to pay +$ 100 per person to be decently full).
I know that restaurants with mediocre food get put out of business really quick, yet this place manages to intrigue diners by offering a different kind of sensory experience. There really is something very whimsical and spectacular about this place that I don’t think can be replicated anywhere else. I definitely would recommend trying at least once for any creativity-​embracing diners that crave more than just food!

I hear about this restaurant here and there. Didn’t really care to try it, but well… Valentines day came and here we are.
Food:
Ordered about 9 tapas shared among 2 people. We saved room for dessert. I wasn’t that impressed with the food. I expected a bit more. The cheesesteak which appear to be one of their more popular dishes was a bit too sloppy and had the pungent goat cheese like flavor that I hate.

I usually always have a great experience every time i come here, but this time the service was not up to par. Although our waitress was extremely welcoming and described all of the dishes to the T, she would always order our food late. We would get a dish and then have to wait at least 15 – 20 min for our next dish. Even after we finished dessert she even let us hanging around another 15 min for our check. We were a bit fed up so we had to flag down another waiter to hand us the bill. What was supposed to be a 1.5−2 hour dinner ended up being 2.5 hours. BUT, other than that the food was delicious!

*on vday there was a lobster carpaccio special that wasn’t actually raw… The way they do it is they cook it, freeze it, and then slice it thin to make it look like its raw. Personally it was just okay to me, I think there’s other things worth trying.

Amazing! We had Valentine’s Day dinner here and would recommend this spot to all foodies. Unlike a lot of restaurants on Valentine’s Day, The Bazaar did not have a prix fixed menu. It was their regular menu, plus special Valentine’s Day specials.
Between my husband and I, we ordered a total of 11 tapas. Though the dishes are small, they were quite filling. I can’t remember the names of everything we ordered, but the tapas that stood out were the jicama wrapped guacamole (our favorite!), Japanese taco, the Philly cheesesteak, and the pan chocolate dessert. The cocktails were also wonderful.
The service was excellent, as was the ambience. Such a unique spot — nothing compares.
Just a note: the valet is $ 16.
We will definitely come back!

Decided to take my girlfriend here as an anniversary dinner and it definitely is a special occasion place to go to.
Located right at a hotel, it is kind of tricky noticing the Bazaar at first glance. When walking in you will notice it is definitely not your typical nice restaurant!
I mean just take a look at the bathroom, it screams orginality and decadence! We were lucky enough to snag chairs near the kitchen to see them make all the food. The way its set up if its just you an someone else you will be sitting near others as the dining area has long tables.
Anyways as far as the food, there are plenty of options and it gets kind of confusing.
Heres my review of what I ordered:
Caipirinha drink: Made table side with liquid nitrogen it is a unique experience! It’s a pretty strong drink and reminded me of a frozen slushie with alcohol.
Caviar cone: They say eat in one bite and this was an amazing dish I highly recommend.
Foie Gras: This just looked so special that I had to get it. Melts right in your mouth and gives an amazing rush of flavors.
Scallops: Best dish. Hands down. Get this.
Eel taco: Very refreshing and after eating it I wanted more and more.
Philly: A bit too cheesy for me. I know its their specialty so I’m pretty sure you should try it just because.
Uni buns: It’s sort of a weird mix, having uni in a sandwich style but really tasty.
After, they move you to the dessert area which is a very different vibrant atmosphere than the main dining area.
Had the flan which was pretty much the best flan I’ve ever had.
But the must must must must must eat out of anything here even the scallops is the Nitro Coconut Island Float. It’s probably one of the weirdest desserts you’ll see and taste but believe me you will feel so satisfied despite what the price for your entire dinner is. This dessert made my night.
In summary, this place is a restaurant where you pay for quality over quantity. I can say I happily left the Bazaar content and happy but not full in my stomach. Sure, it’s going to be an expensive dinner but if you’re going for the right reason or occasion I highly recommend trying it out.

While there were definitely a couple highlights to my meal at Bazaar, the food here was overall disappointing, especially considering the price and the fact that they pride themselves on innovative, gastronomic cooking.
Because I went with four other people, I got to try quite a range of dishes, which ranged from a couple «4 – 5 star» plates to flat out 1 stars. You can tell by my distribution below that there were very few «stellar» plates.
WOULD ORDER AGAIN:
1. TORTILLA DE PATATAS «NEW WAY» (potato foam, egg 63, caramelized onions) for $ 5 per jar: This one almost went to «not bad but would not get again», but decided to put it here instead. I thought this had an interesting presentation, with good (albeit not complex — think sour cream and onion) flavors. Good way to start the meal.
2. «PHILLY CHEESESTEAK» (air bread, cheddar, wagyu beef) for $ 11 per sandwich: Yum. The bread was thin and flakey, the cheese warm and rich, and the wagyu beef itself was just bright enough to cut through the cheese. Steep pricing at $ 11 per sandwich, which are small, but worth a try!
NOT BAD, BUT WOULD NOT GET AGAIN:
1. BEEF TARTARE (kimchi crackers, pickled shallot, fried capers) for $ 16: Good flavors, but not particularly memorable (although I will say that this was a favorite of one of my fellow diners).
2. BRAISED WAGYU BEEF CHEEKS (roasted potatoes, mojo rojo) for $ 16: Good and tender, but not particularly interesting. Mojo rojo has a kick to it, which helped counteract the richness of the meat.
3. SQUASH RICE (special, $ 16) with WHITE TRUFFLE SUPPLEMENT ($ 30): Rice itself was good, but then again, how can creamy, rich risotto not be good? The truffle supplement was extremely disappointing. It barely added to the flavors/​aromas of the dish — definitely not worth the additional $ 30.
4. SEA URCHIN STEAMED BUNS (avocado, eel sauce, tempura flakes) $ 14 for 3 buns: Did not try personally, but people seemed to enjoy overall.
5. SEARED MARY’S FARM CHICKEN: honey dates, mustard caviar, mustard greens ($ 12): I think I knew my meal overall was a disappointment when a chicken dish (which I usually avoid… I think chicken’s pretty boring) was one of my favorites. Very tender with good flavors, but again, not memorable.
6. WILD MUSHROOM RICE idiazábal cheese ($ 16): Again, good flavors. But not particularly memorable. I feel like I can get this elsewhere for cheaper and just as good, if not better.
REGRET GETTING:
1. MARKET FISH CEVICHE AND AVOCADO ROLL (jicama, micro cilantro, coconut) for $ 18: Cannot believe I paid $ 18 for this mediocre roll. Presentation was mediocre, flavors were nondescript, and it was just overall overwhelmingly «bleh». I’m pretty sure I’ve had better «sushi rolls» at cheap, «Americanized» sushi restaurants. The only thing I remember being mildly impressed about was how thin they were able to slice the avocados. Hardly worth the $ 18.
2. SMOKED YELLOWTAIL AND CRISPY RICE (yoghurt, grapes, capers, radish) for $ 15: I don’t understand this dish. It looked and tasted like they just threw random things onto the plate just for the sake of making it «artsy» and «deconstructed.» The yellowtail was too chewy and lacked flavor, and I found myself picking at the random smattering of ingredients on the plate, which severely lacked cohesiveness of any sort.
3. JAPANESE TACO (bbq eel, shiso, cucumber, wasabi, chicharron) for $ 12: So… wrapping BBQ eel in a thin cucumber wrap is now a Japanese taco? What? Why am I paying $ 12 for this?
Service was a little slow but not bad. Overall, would rather spend my money elsewhere.

Came here for their DineLA menu and was happy with the assortment of items on the menu — some more than others.
We were seated at the countertop bar near the open kitchen where you can see some of the chefs prep and plate the food. That was fun and the main chef there was super nice and informative.
Service — meh. Our waiter was barely around. We had 15 courses and we saw him maybe 3 times? The bussing staff and runners were always a little off so sometimes I would have food in front of me with no fork to eat it with…
Food overall was great (but not the best I’ve ever had for the price range).
Favorites :
1) the «Philly cheesesteak» — was so fun to eat and felt more creative. Their «air bread» was filled with oozy melting cheese that was just glorious.
2) the cotton candy foie gras was fun! I mean you can’t go wrong w foie gras but it was a delicious cube surrounded by fluffy cotton candy… unique presentation!
The whole place has so much going on that I’m sure if you sit somewhere else in the restaurant, it would feel like a whole different place! The dessert area is cute — exposed kitchen allows you to see what they’re making /​working on!

Stayed at the SLS so we popped in here for dinner. I had the Oxtail steamed buns, BBQ eel tacos, and the traditional Spanish flan.
This is the type of place that you take your girl to if you’re trying to impress her. Or if you’re really trying to impress a new flame. However, it’s not the type of place that you if you’re actually hungry and you want to enjoy a meal and get full without signing away the rights to your first born’s earnings.
My favorite thing that I tried was the Oxtail buns. However, I’m a sucker for oxtail so that may play a factor in my review.

I’ve been here twice. For a birthday dinner and the NYE event. Both visits have been exceptional. This restaurant is the exact concept of what out of towners think LA is all about. Abstract, overly trendy, and over priced. Soo LA. Also… an amateur foodie’s dream! I like to think of it as tapas/​dim sum on designer drugs. The staff was friendly and personable. The selection was amazing! I wanted to try everything. Loved the sea urchin buns and the air Philly cheesesteak. However, the portions are really small. I actually suggest not sharing and just ordering your own dishes. The NYE event I went to was incredible. All you can eat of all the popular dishes on the menu, open bar, and one of the most mouth watering dessert bars i’ve ever seen!
This is a great place for curious foodies. Also a good spot to catch up with friends over drinks or appetizers. Don’t take your 65 year old mother from out of town over here. Or your cheap girlfriends that only go out when men pay for them. Yes, it’s expensive. A typical evening can easily run over $ 200 per person. However, if you appreciate the theatrics of high-​end dining in LA you’ll want to give this place a try.

Came here for my birthday dinner and boy was I beyond excited!!! … & by the end of it, sorta hating myself for eating so much. Service was absolutely wonderful, from the moment I stepped out of the car to drop it off with valet, to the second I walked inside and met the hostess, got seated, met my waiter, and every other employee in between.
The restaurant was rather busy but there seemed to be no shortage of employees (yay!) and no drop in attentiveness or care toward each customer.
Kimchi Cracker & Beef Tartare — the kimchi cracker was pretty interesting, I kept munching on them. The tartare was ok at best.
Fermion Platter — 3 different hams. YUM.
Grilled Wagyu Flank Steak — omg. I wish they gave you more. The meat was practically melt in your mouth amazing.
Stuffed Piquillo Peppers — these little beauties were so yummy. Not spicy at all! Just a little kick.
Braised Wagyu Beef Cheeks — also a m a z i n g.
Seared Rabbit — good, but not as amazing as any of the wagyu dishes.
Tortillas de Patatas — worth trying
Jicama Wrapped Guacamole — yet another dish that I wish refilled itself endlessly. Such a wonderful combination of jicama and guacamole.
Croquetas de Pollo — also worth trying
New & Old Olives — interesting idea that piqued my interest and I was very satisfied with the experience of comparing and contrasting the two flavors
In addition to all this food (I think there might have been a few more), we also tried the liquid nitrogen margarita which is so fun to watch them make! They bring around a little cart to your table and craft it together right before your eyes for a little show. A wine flight of six, a dirty martini with liquid olives, and a birthday cookie & raspberry later, we were STUFFED.
Service was nonstop amazing the entire night and made my birthday nothing short of wonderful. I truly felt welcomed (and fat) at this restaurant.

Bazaar is a trendy place in Beverly Hills at the SLS hotel and it is beautiful inside. I was excited to discover what the buzz was all about, especially with the food.
We had a reservation and were seated as they opened, with plenty of empty seats initially. I was disappointed with the table that was given to us by the woman who greeted us. Th greeting wasn’t very friendly and then she gave us a table that’s kind of hidden behind a post and tucked into a corner. I’m not one to complain (and I didn’t) but it felt like its the table to «hide» guests. Clearly I could be wrong about that, but there were so many other open tables that weren’t hidden, that it felt that way.
I’m not a celebrity and don’t expect red carpet or special treatment but it felt embarrassing to sit there.
Ok as for the food: Philly Cheesesteak was good and interesting, although messy. Tuna Cone was a little tuna sushi in a tiny ice cream cone that I liked a lot. The stands outs were the tortilla and the jamon, those ham cuts were absolutely delicious.
All in all, the service was great, I enjoyed the food and maybe the table was a snafu or a misunderstanding on my part. I’ve never felt unwelcome in a restaurant before and I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt here.

Honestly it’s 3.5 stars but it’s Bazaar so I’ll round up. It’s always about the execution with this place. Reminds me of Barton G.
A: Cotton Candy Foie — don’t share, just put the whole thing in your mouth. The cotton candy surrounds the creamy foie in the center. Very good
B: Foie Gras bun — soft steamy buns with foie in the middle, straight forward
B: Mushroom and Cream — exactly what it sounds like. There’s a fried egg, tasted like breakfast
A-​: Wrapped Guac — spicy, creamy
A: Japanese Taco — I like the sweet eel and the cucumber wrap
A: Linquini — I think it’s on their special menu, texture was like glass noodle but thicker, very flavorful, tomatoes were dehydrated for flavor explosion
A: Wild Mushroom — uhh the dish didn’t look good but ther was a lot of flavors going on, you really need bread with these dishes but I guess that’s not how they do. slimy texture
B: $ 12 Canale — Um it was good, but not worth $ 12. crispy on the outside and soft on the inside which is good but they didn’t quite get the chewy texture
Always an experience when coming here. If you really want to impress a girl and show her «LA», this is the place to take her. Just make sure you really like her cause it will be a blow to your wallet and it may be the only action you’ll get so make it count :)

Lemon caviar cauliflower foam pack. No stuffing buns cold minus points … This creamy parcel seems to be a common one upscale restaurant apetizer. Black caviar is the roe flavor more common. cauliflower and did not come out.
hybiscous air oyster. passion fruit foam covering kumamoto oysters. We seem to be good at one of the characteristics of the ingredients to make bubbles whichever flavor.
shrimp cocktail. A prawn inserted a needle in seafood sauce. image, no cocktail sauce also manually’s pushed mouth. Seagrass heavy smell of the sea, shrimp processed taste.
Eggplant tempura. Honey taste and a good combination of eggplant, peeled eggplant tempura skin stays full, and bubbles buttermilk complement each other.
Thai avacado tuna roll. Edward Cadogan for the skin, tuna for the stuffing, coupled with coconut milk and spices rarely refreshingly, refreshing. The overall shape of bamboo.
beet salad. Smoke /​roast nuts + blueberry jam +
The combination sourcream. Beets with sweet and sour dip something very appetizing. Sour radish is what the hell …
A cup of clam chowder … feel like drinking a cup of creamy foie gras dishes … actually …
winter garden salad. Corn purée and salt good match. All kinds of vegetables are also rare weekday /​no name.
Fried calamari. Peeling tomatoes very surprising. Squid legs
Tip was grilled crisp, the bulk there is nutty. Onion with melted butter and mix caramal do, the whole full flavor to the dish very bazzar
Iberian ham package. Iron ham and two eggs and onions with bread. As it is not so much bread crackers. Focus really ham ah.
Miscellaneous fruit bean sprouts. Lemon pickles bubble … but also hidden grain.
chilli cheesesteak. Bread shell filled with bubbly cheese … and two and cattle spread bread on top of a throwaway …
And beef cheek meat with Indian curry like moji rojo … steak grilled crispy outside, bite the texture of collagen, praise

White cook dessert: sweet but not greasy is a collection of a variety of pastries desserts elements (caramel, puff, cream, colored syrup …) overall it was delicious
In short, it worths 3.5 stars but Unilocal does not allow a half star. 20 bucks valet parking and 20% mandatory gratitude have to be taken into account. The wagyu dishes should be brought out earlier … I am almost full when they r out!

The Good:
— excellent value on the set menu ($ 100 for ~18 mini courses)
— full sized dishes great for sharing
— the sweets were incredible, and they had a sweet shop where you could grab things to go!
— bustling atmosphere, dimly lit, sexy, and hollwood-​esque décor
— you might see celebrities
— you must get the philly cheesesteak and the jamon iberico
The Not So Good:
— a third of the dishes were phenomenal, a third of the dishes were good but not memorable, and a third of the dishes didn’t work (due to texture or seasoning). your mileage may vary based on the rotational aspect of the menu.
— the service was incredibly lackluster. we wanted more explanations on the dishes and prep, but that was not available. we also had a different server every half hour or so, so tracking down a single person was incredibly difficult.
Bottom Line:
Bazaar is a do-​it-​once type place. You just have to cross is off your list. Would I come back? With the sprawling food scene in LA and the San Gabriel Valley, I think there are other places I would hit before coming back.

Our arrival dinner in LA was at The Bazaar, a restaurant chosen by my bro-​in-​law for a pre-​Thanksgiving feast. The four of us expected a good tapas dinner with family-​style dishes for sharing. We got that plus a lot more! Our dining experience was a bit quirky (Bizarre Bazaar!), but will go down as one of the best in LA in recent memory.
Ambiance: Its like dining in a museum surrounded by photos, books, and art exhibits. Leather seats are super comfortable. Lots of customers wearing black. Very sleek and hip vibe. You even get to have dessert in a separate, private section of the restaurant.
Cocktails: Very strong drinks, and they make liberal use of liquid nitrogen for effect. I had the Smoke on the Water — it had Johnny Walker Black with Blackberries and gave a nice fruity and smoky taste. The spherical ice cube was totally cool!
Food: The menu is a bit overwhelming — lots of Spanish and Japanese influences. Our waitress suggested 3 – 5 dishes per person. My personal favorites were:
* Grilled Octopus: Super tender, char-​grilled smokey flavor, and a nice peppery sauce. One of the best octopus dishes I had — the four of us voted this the top dish.
* Beef Cheeks: Also super tender and juicy, with the Mojo Rojo sauce. This was everyone’s second favorite.
* Foie Gras Cotton Candy: Wow now this is creative! Sweet cotton candy surrounding a morsel of foie gras laced with some crunchy candy corn.
* Eggplant Tempura: The honey foam paired well with the lightly fried eggplant.
* Uni Steamed Buns: I liked how they put a small bit of jalapeño to help cut the richness of the uni.
The dishes I felt were good (but perhaps second tier to those above) were littleneck clams (cold, briny, ceviche-​like), white asparagus (crunchy but creamy), hamachi (good, fresh), oysters and hibiscus foam (almost sweet), and caviar cones (hand made in front of you!). Our least favorite dish was the Philly Cheesesteak. Wagyu Beef on top of the hollowed-​out mini roll was perfect, until that bite released all that cheese which seemed to overwhelm everything (like a cream puff!).
Lastly, dessert was also an adventure. By far the favorite is the Nitro Coconut Floating Islands! It was like eating a cloud of coconut cream with pineapple. The other good dish is The Sphere — an artistic chocolate shell with soft cake inside. Kind of cool to use a plastic pipet to add more color and tanginess. Yuzu Kit Kat was ok — just imagine some citrus into your Kit Kat bar.
Definitely a 5-​star dining experience — right up there with Degustation-​style restaurants. The quirky ambiance is also a nice touch.

SWAAAANK. I don’t think there’s a single place like this in all of SF. We are tshirt and jeans people. so it was really actually quite nice to step off a plane, change in the airport bathroom, and be whisked here in my friend’s prius to experience some fancy cocktails.
Drinks were great. Strong. Intriguing. Expensive.
It’s definitely not a mingling place. more of a dress to impress, see and be seen sorta spot. It was nice catching up with old gal pals on the oddly ornate couches and then perusing the crazy stuff they’re selling in the back.
A time and a place for everything.

I took a large group for a business dinner to Bazaar and it was just fabulous. Amazing décor in a true «bazaar» eclectic setting. We had drinks in the bar area first (I had an amazing cocktail called something like a Japanese dream). Then time for a roughly 15 course tasting menu. Each course delights with flavor and presentation. I especially enjoyed the caprese salad, caviar cones, salty potatoes (that looked like rocks in bowl), and the philly cheesesteak which blew me away with texture and flavor explosion. Service was in sync, excellent, and unusually coordinated for such a large group.
Bazaar is a true culinary experience — quite the show — but not too gimmicky. I would definitely go back to try new dishes and cocktails!

I’ve been wanting to try The Bazaar for quite some time after hearing rave reviews about it. My boyfriend took me here for a surprise dinner. I was super excited to finally get to try this place.
There is only valet here, $ 14. They accept credit cards so that’s a plus.
The ambiance and vibe is very nice and all the staff are friendly. We had reservations at 6:30 and were seated promptly.
The food is very creative/​innovative! The dishes are served as tapas, which I think is a fun and cute way to have dinner. Some of my favorite things I tried were scallops (I love scallops in general though) and mushrooms and cream (awesome with the egg!). Everything else was pretty good, but not spectacular.
There’s a whole separate room for dessert, which is neat. The seating is cute and I loved the way the desserts were displayed. We ordered the liquid nitrogen floating island because it sounded so unique! I did like the smooth and creamy texture of the coconut. The pineapple complemented the dessert well and made for a nice tropical taste. It was fun to eat, but not something I would come back craving.
Overall, this place has an awesome ambiance, great service and pretty good food. I want to try other dishes, so I might be back. Other than that, I liked this restaurant, but I wasn’t blown away like other people have raved.

José Andrés, der gemeinsam mit Ferran Adrià im berühmten El Bully gearbeitet hat, hat sich mit diesem Restaurant in den USA niedergelassen. Es ist im edlen SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. Die Küche ist zwischen klassischen sowie sehr kreativen Tapas und der Molekularküche angesiedelt. Die Speisen waren sehr schön angerichtet und äußerst gut gewürzt (mit einer Ausnahme). Ebenfalls die Cocktails warwen sehr gut. Billig ist der ganze Spaß natürlich nicht — wäre bei dieser kreativen Küche mit höchqualitativen Produkten auch nicht möglich. Bei den englischen Rezensionen steht, dass die Portionen klein sind. Dazu kann ich nur sagen: Stimmt, wenn man die amerikanischen Monsterportionen als Maßstab hernimmt. Für europ. Verhältnisse sind sie eigentlich normal. Aber für hiesiges Publikum ist das natürlich zu wenig. Kann man den Menschen hier nicht verübeln, denn die sind halt mehr gewohnt. Jedoch ich kann nur wiederholen, für unsere (Deutsch-Österr.-Schweizer) Verhältnisse passt das !
Warum ich keine 5 Sterne gebe: Es waren 2 Dinge, die mir nicht so gefallen haben. Wenn ein Schaumwein korkt, dann korkt er und dann brauch ich mir nicht von einer Kellnerin sagen lassen, sie hat ihn gekostet (?) hat und dass der Cava halt so schmeckt. Da hat Sie leider Pech, denn ich kenne mich mit Schaumweinen aus. Selbst ein etwas ruppiger Cava schmeckt nicht nach Kork! Das zweite war, dass einer der Gänge sehr plump war. Gerüffeltes Ei mit Serrano Schinken. War eigentlich eine Schinken-​Eierspeise ohne irgend eine besondere Würze. War einer von insgesamt 8 Gängen (inkl. Dessert) alle anderen waren wirklich hervorragend, jedoch für 5 Sterne und dem Preis muss einfach alles passen.
Alles in Allem jedoch ist dieses Lokal eine Empfehlung.
