If you’re looking to go on a scuba diving trip. .. you’ve come to the right place. From the kelp beds of California to the coral reefs of Indonesia and everything in between, if it’s underwater, Reef Seekers can help you explore it to it’s fullest potential.

History

Established in 1988.

Ken Kurtis (Reef Seekers owner) has been teaching diving and taking people through an underwater journey since 1978. In 1988 he and then-partner Bill Wright (along with Maurice Douek) created Reef Seekers. The mission statemement was «To help people explore the wonders of the underwater world easily and without hassle.»

Reef Seekers quickly became known as a leader in the industry.

Mauirce left the business in 1994 and Bill & Ken ran it jointly until the end of 2006, when they lost their Wilshire Blvd. lease and Bill decided he wanted to retire from retail.

Since January 1, 2007, Ken has shifted Reef Seekers away from retail sales of dive equipment (although Robert Stark still maintains the repair department for equipment servicing). The main focus now is taking people diving, through regularly-scheduled local trips as well as frequent foreign vacations.

Check out the website for trip reports and underwater pictures of all the places where Reef Seekers has been lately.

Meet the Business Owner

Ken K.

Business Owner

Ken got certified in 1978 and has taught thousands of people. He’s logged close to 5000 dives, still actively teaches and confesses his favorite class to teach is Fish Identification. Ken leads our foreign trips (Sea of Cortez, Yap, Palau, Bonaire, Fiji, Maldives, Midway Island, Papua New Guinea, Cayman, and the Bahamas are a few of the stamps in his passport) as well as diving on most of our local charters. He’s served as chairman of Chamber Day/Eve since the early 90s, has been a volunteer Diver/Team Leader at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach since 1998, shoots photos and writes for local and national scuba publications, and is a familiar face to television viewers in Los Angeles. Ken’s also hosted various TV shows, commercials, and infomercials that have run nationally and internationally. Ken claims to hold the Reef Seekers deep diving record of 3500′.. . but we have to add the caveat that he did it in the Alvin submersible for a PBS special so that might be cheating.
