This is Patrice Edwards.
I am 44 years old. I have treacher collins syndrome.
I can’t get a job. people hate me because of the way I look and don’t understand me and my situation.
Reason why I didn’t have surgery on my ears because
my mom didn’t have any money.
I didn’t know medi-​CAL would pay for ear reconstruction.
I saw that there is med-​por. Why not use that on me?
Last month, the doctor said I don’t need ears surgery and
he said my face «looks ummmm okay».
I told him that people are shallow. And I am treated so badly by some people. I don’t understand why everybody thinks people are so nice.
I had a woman telling me to stand 5 steps away from her at McDonalds.
And another woman telling me to don’t go near her food at 99 cent store.
A woman walked up and stood in front of me at the bank, as if I am not there…
People don’t want me to participate with film crew in short film project.
And I had psychiatrist telling me to go make friends, walk around the block.
I told her that people DON’T want to be my friends.
When I was a child, nobody wants to play with me.
Then she told me to volunteer.
i told her already done that, a volunteer coordinator took my name off the list and told me to go home.
People don’t understand… they think I was born yesterday…
as if I haven’t try anything. I have tried everything.
If I look «ummm okay», then I would have had a job, a car, friends, and all.
I don’t want a psychiatrist to put me on xanax and tell me how to ignore prejudiced people.
Why not tell Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to ignore racist people? Why not tell gay rights activists to ignore ignorant people?
It really affects me.
I need to have ear reconstruction surgery… I can’t handle all the discrimination anymore. I am so fed up. Please help me out.

I had a bunch of reconstruction surgeries and my mom said I always look better after ward…
So why should I stop?
Why can’t i have ear surgery too.
I understand that I need to grow my hair and cover my ears… but my hair is falling out, wigs and weave can’t stay on my ears because of the wind.

My child, when 16 months old, underwent plastic surgery with Dr. Reinisch to remove a large hemangioma on her face. The surgery was extremely delicate, as some of the hemangioma was located beneath the skin and any damage to surrounding facial nerves could have resulted in permanent paralysis of parts of her face.
We met with another head of pediatric plastic surgery before seeing Dr. Reinisch. Dr. Reinisch was, far and away, the most competent, compassionate, and talented surgeon we could find to help our child. He even gave us a huge discount on the surgery so that my child could have the procedure right away at an outpatient surgical center (rather than waiting one year for an operating room time at Children’s Hospital-​Los Angeles). The hemangioma that had caused so many health and cosmetic issues for our child was removed in an hour-​long surgery. Dr. Reinisch did such an incredible, thorough job. He even located my child’s incision far from the site of the hemagioma, so that it would be obscured by her hair. About 8 years later, this scar is barely visible and my child’s life has been forever positively altered by Dr. Reinisch. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this surgeon and his commitment to helping children. I have since recommended him to other families whose children have large, problematic hemangiomas. He is so talented that he can do the surgery on very young infants, as well. I know of people who have traveled from the East Coast so that their children could be treated by Dr. Reinisch. I am forever grateful for the amazing help he gave my child and our family.

This is the most amazing doctor for Medpor. He is the doctor who created the Medpor and I couldn’t trust anyone else more to handle my child’s delicate surgery. We were treated like family with the upmost respect and dr. Roberson who performs the atresia repair is absolutely amazing. We are truly greatful for what they have given to our son and truly recommend these doctors to do the best job for your loved one who has microtia or atresia. So blessed to have found this team.

Great doctor. My brother had an accident and FOUR doctors recommended unnecessary surgery and finally we saw Dr. Reinisch and he said NOTHING was required. He said he can go home anytime. Everything turned out ok and he really acted professionally and ethically. His prognosis was correct. Very grateful to him. He is not greedy. He does what’s right. He is proficient.

I am surprised to see the negative reviews on Dr. Reinisch. Both of our boys had cleft lip and palate. My wife’s grandfather was head of asthma research at John Hopkins in Baltimore and nosed around and Dr. Reinsich was recommended as the best cleft surgeon in southern California. We have had nothing but good things happen to our kids under his expert hands. After my first son came out of his lip adhesion surgery, I thought to myself this guy is not only a surgeon but he is an artist too! I have been in the room with Dr. Reinisch many times and another post said he had a bad bed side manner. I could not disagree more. The only issue we had was on the money side of things. Doctor Reinisch’s fees are more than reasonable however you might want to check into what the hospital is going to charge you also. Cedars is on should i say the pricey side. So do your homework on that side of things. But Dr. Reichish is the man if you want an excellent job done on your cleft kids!

My daughter was born with microtia congenital ear deformity in 2009. I have been to several Doctor’s and decided to go with Dr. Reinisch because I liked the outcome of the way the end results looked after his surgery. We saw Dr. Reinisch in February of 2012 and surgery was set for November 8 2012. On October 1 was the pre-​op. We are now 3 weeks away from surgery and I received a phone call today from his right hand person telling us they needed 10,000 dollars today as a deposited before surgery, this had never been mentioned before today? I d o not have 10,000 to send over and I explained that to Grace, My husband is an electrician and I am a stay home mom because of all the therapy my daughter needs. We have a 70 – 30 insurance plan and I explained I would work with paying the difference after insurance was billed, but that was not good enough for them. They wanted it all or surgery would be cancelled. If they would have let me know back in Feb or in Oct we could have started a fundraising event to help cover expenses. But today 3 weeks out of surgery we were hit with the old mighty dollar with no exceptions? This just shows me how dark times really are. Because we did not have the money up front my daughters surgery was cancelled. I am devastated to say the least, What was really interesting during our visit with this Doctor he had no problem showing us videos of all the vacations with his family and all the work he does on children in other countries, I guess because we are from the United States he does not have that same compassion for our children here.
What was really disturbing Dr. Reinisch called me and told me I was a unstable person and that his Grace would never have asked for the money and he was not there during my conversation with Grace.
In my opinion this Dr. Reinisch has a great education but no bedside manor and I guess needs our 10,000 for his next vacation?
In the meantime I have spoken to other Doctors and want to see my Daughter next week and have already confirmed insurance is good and will work with us.
So know you have been warned.
