Hand and Wrist Institute

I was treated by Dr. Knight at the Hand and Wrist Institute recently and could not get over the amazing service. After talking to the staff about my medical concerns, they were able to get me an appointment right away. I knew Dr. Knight had a great reputation, so I trusted him to adequately diagnose my issue and treat it — which he did — but what surprised me was how friendly he was! Everyone was. The location was great (I work nearby) and the office is beautiful — but when it comes down to it, the personal care and attention is what makes this office/​staff/​doctor a standout! I’ve referred others and would highly recommend Dr. Knight for hand and wrist issues — he’s the best!

Impeccable service and very personable from the moment you walk into the office! The doctor as well as the staff set a high standard for any medical establishment on how it should be run! Hurt my hand from kickboxing and I found this place through Unilocal & I’m glad I did!

The staff was friendly, efficient and professional. My surgery was successful and I am pain free and have full mobility and the doctor was great. Awesome job!!!

I recently broke a bone while getting for work in the morning. I jammed it and heard a very loud crack and knew it was broken. I didn’t have a lot of time to spend at the doctors because I had a very busy day at work ahead of me. There isn’t anybody else who can do my job so I really needed immediate treatment and to be back at work as soon as possible… even with a broken bone.
I went to Dr. Knight at the Hand and Wrist Institute and I was seen right away! The front end staff was so welcoming and friendly, and the X-​Ray technician staff was such a nice guy who made sure to get a clean shot of the bone from different angles to see how extensive the break was. Dr. John Knight took a look at the X-​Ray and confirmed it was broken and how intense the break was. I was given proper treatment instructions and I was released very quickly.
I highly recommend that you go to the Hand and Wrist Institute. Thank you Dr. Knight.

Great doctor who explains everything well, doesn’t rush through appointments and even has a good bedside manner.
His front office staff is friendly & welcoming and very proficient. He was understanding when I mentioned that I didn’t have the greatest insurance and didn’t push unnecessary diagnostics or procedures. Instead he told me the benefits of surgery as well as the disadvantages or what I could possibly anticipate as far as complications if I did not do surgery.
I feel like he truly has my best interest in mind and my only regret is not seeing him sooner because I would have felt 100% comfortable doing surgery under his care… instead I found him several weeks after a fracture but plan on following whatever plan of care he suggests because I know I’m in good hands.

I had carpal tunnel with a ganglion cyst in my left-​hand and had to get surgery in 2014. Now I’ve got to get surgery on my right-​hand for carpal tunnel. Arghhhhhh! Not what I wanted to be bothered with! I knew I had carpal tunnel in both hands in 2014 but since the left-​hand was worse, that’s the one I got the surgery on. I had truly hoped the carpal tunnel would just «go away» in my right-​hand. Hey, you’d feel the same if you had 13+ surgeries. The ONLY relief in all of this is that I truly love and adore Dr. Knight, so I did have that to look forward to.
When I began feeling the pain in my right-​hand and knowing in my soul this was going to be another surgery, I didn’t waste time, I went right in to Dr. Knight. Even though I had been to Dr. Knight and knew I was in good hands, I still didn’t want the surgery. I found myself getting more and more anxious to the point where I thought I was having mild anxiety attacks. At my appoinment, he mentioned something about an issue we had discussed when I was there 2 years ago! He remembered and I didn’t?! This dude is awesome! Anyway, I told him I was really nervous and as is his way, he comforted me and it worked for a while. His office didn’t wait, we started blood work, paperwork and scheduling the surgery. His office staff is sooooooo efficient. Everything flowed which left me less to worry about. Each person has his/​her position and they all work well together. I always got the answers I needed and never, ever with any aggravation, attitude or a sense that I’m getting on their nerves lol.
Day of surgery, Dr. Knight was as warm as he is handsome. He is a hottie, just a warning y’all lol!!! It was right after that surgery that day, that I wasn’t nervous anymore. No more anxiety attacks. No butterflies. It was done and it wasn’t bad at all and it was everything Dr. Knight said it would be. No surprises. I must admit, this is one of my best times ever of healing from a surgery. Not only it did turn out extremely well, I enjoyed my much needed time off from work. Dr. Knight works with some of the best occupational therapists and I continued to go to one on his list called Healing Hands. In my initial meeting, he asked if I was going to continue seeing Stacy for therapy. Again, he read my file and was prepared! You’d be surprised how many doctors don’t even remember your name lol.
When I went in to my primary doctor, Dr. Bruce Jacobson to do the blood work for my surgery, I reminded him of my carpal tunnel surgery on my left-​hand and showed him. He was so very impressed with Dr. Knight’s work that the only question he asked me was, «How is his bedside manner?» before asking for his information to use as a referral for his own patients. I told him exactly how wonderful Dr. Knight is as is his office and that I highly recommend him to ANYONE looking to get carpal tunnel surgery. Even if you need a 2^nd opinion, check out Dr. Knight. I found it funny that some patients at Healing Hands have decided to go to Dr. Knight when they’ve had further issues due to many other patients being so happy with his work. It’s really nice to hear how many people like your Doctor lol. I am so very blessed to have such a great group of doctors. I had a broken bone in my wrist that was causing sharp pain all the way up my left arm that needed to be removed, have a bone graft and be pinned up. Dr Knight was amazing and extremely thorough explaining the procedure and post operative care. Everything went exactly as he had explained pretty much to the day. It’s been 3 month since the operation and I no longer have any pain in my arm. All the surgery and clinic staff are really on the ball. I would not hesitate to recommend anyone to them with hand or wrist issues.

Very disappointing experience. After a thorough intake interview, nerve tests, and and MRI to determine the source of my hand and wrist pain, I waited two weeks for the results and was finally called – not by Dr. Knight – but by someone who worked in the office to tell me I had severe carpal tunnel syndrome and would I like to make an appointment for a surgery. I had to request ANOTHER appointment with Dr. Knight to discuss my options. He rushed me through the process and offered only surgery as a solution. No other modalities or options were discussed. When I asked him to describe the surgery, he acted like I was wasting his time. If you want surgery, this may very well be the place for you. If you want a physician who cares, look elsewhere.

After months of having pain in my wrist I went in to Dr. Knights office and had a very enjoyable experience. The staff was very welcoming, helpful and friendly and I would recommend this Institute to anybody dealing a hand or wrist injury. The doctor was able to diagnose and explain what the best treatment would be for my wrist and I have since made a full recovery. The Hand and Wrist Institute has the set the bar tremendously high for customer service and putting the patient first and i will always be grateful for them helping me with my injury.

I just had my last visit with Dr. Knight.
I saw him on the West Hills office. He is prompt, professional and polite. As soon as I called (back in October) Evelyn worked me in the schedule right away. He evaluated my hand for surgery and was able to accomodate my schedule for surgery in a very reasonable time frame.
I had the surgery in November and I was very pleased with the surgery results and the surgery center. They were very prompt with phone calls and questions. The staff was outstanding. Very kind and polite. I needed to speak with the Anesthesiologist and they made sure he called the day before surgery.
Evelyn answers phone calls and emails 24\7. Even Sunday, before and after 7pm.
I usually don’t expect to hear from a physician’s office on the weekend, but Evelyn responds.
The only suggestion I have is, Evelyn needs more help! She is very dedicated to her and Dr. Knight! I would definitely recommend Dr. Knight and his team to family and friends. I will use him again if need be.

Dr. Knight is amazing! I severed my tendon in my thumb and he has been wonderful through the entire repair process. Him and his staff are professional and I wouldn’t trust anyone else to work this injury. Thanks again for everything!!!

I have the utmost respect for Dr. John Knight and his staff at the Hand and Wrist Institute. I have osteo-​arthritis in many of my joints. Over the last 20 or so years, I have required a lot of medical attention for pain management, physical therapy and replacements in my knees and a shoulder. More recently, a joint at the base of my right thumb became inflamed to the point that the pain was pretty much unbearable. As my passion is playing jazz on the saxophone, I knew I had to do something to try and remedy the problem.
I was referred to Dr. Knight through two of my surgeons’ referrals four years ago, and he performed a procedure that — to me — was miraculous. It involved removal of the arthritic carpal bone at the base of the thumb and replacing it with a rolled-​up portion of a wrist tendon. The resulting scar tissue forms a new base for the thumb, and IT WORKS. I have absolutely no pain in that thumb (which, by the way, holds up the saxophone while being played), and it is solid as a rock.
Fast-​forward to last December: The same problem developed in my left thumb, which controls the important octave key on the saxophone. It hurt so much I could not play comfortably. This time around, Dr. Knight told me he has an even better surgical solution (cutting edge — no pun) whereby he uses a fusion implant of some sort instead of the tendon segment. Just over two weeks later, he had me starting physical therapy near my home. Not long after, I was using a much smaller splint. After only ten therapy sessions later, he said I could resume normal activities.
I mention all this because the recovery time was a fraction of the time for the earlier right thumb surgery – I am thinking less than half. I am still doing some home therapy on my own just to keep the flexibility going, but the pain in that joint is completely gone, and I am gratefully back to playing the horn. I feel very fortunate because not many years ago, these sophisticated surgical techniques and the doctors qualified to perform them just did not exist.
FYI, Dr. Knight is a regular on the KCAL TV show «The Doctors’. I know he networks with the most progressive medical people out there and also works with professional athletes to better understand their special needs. I also was very impressed with his efficiency: every time I visited his very modern Beverly Hills office, my time in and out was always only 30 or so minutes. I have «concierge service» with my GP and I see a number of other doctors, and none of them get me on my way as quickly.
Just a side note — last time I saw Dr. Knight, I mentioned that many years back, I broke a metacarpal in my left hand. After much «due diligence», I gravitated toward a much-​respected leader in the hand surgery field named Dr. Ashworth. He did a great job repairing my hand back then. He has since passed away, but as it turns out, he was Dr. Knight’s mentor when Dr. Knight first moved to Los Angeles. Small world.

Dr. Knight recently performed surgery on my left hand to remove a cyst. His diligence and professionalism was second to none. Furthermore, his staff was equally professional and very courteous as well. My experience with Dr. Knight and his staff was exceptional. As such, I highly recommend Dr. Knight; he’s awesome!!!

I was in a serious biking accident outside of Himeji, Japan and went to a local hospital to seek medical attention. After considerable dissatisfaction with the level of care I had received, I researched top hand specialists in the States. I contacted Dr. Knight and booked a flight to LAX the very next day.
His facilities are top notch and his staff is extremely welcoming. I was immediately X-​rayed and diagnosed right in his office. He personally performed wound care on my injured fingers. Also, I had a ring on my fractured finger that needed to be removed. After my appointment, he called the Beverly Hills Fire Department and they were able to safely remove the ring.
Ultimately, my injuries did not require surgery but this didn’t stop Dr. Knight from going above and beyond to insure my recovery. He coordinated my treatment with doctors and occupational therapists back in Louisiana. I couldn’t believe the level of personal attention I received. Dr. Knight cares for his patients like no other doctor I have encountered. I cannot truly thank you enough Dr. Knight!

Dr. Knight is awesome! I’ve been seeing him for a worker’s comp. case and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Highly professional and very knowledgeable. Parking is a bit of a hassle unless you can afford to valet, but other than you’re in good hands.

I am updating my review here for this A+ surgeon and human being.
I recently had a ganglion cyst removed from my wrist by Dr. Knight. Miraculously, my wrist feels 100% better already only five to six weeks post-​op. The precision, expertise and knowledge of this truly qualified professional is what put my mind to rest from just my consultation with him.
Although any surgery requires expertise and perfected skill for excellent results, the human wrist is a bit more of a challenge. With all of the many moving parts and details to this type of procedure, you’re in the best hands with this gentleman doctor who not only knows what he is doing, but also has manners and integrity in his attitude towards his patient and staff. I had visited three other doctors regarding wrist procedures and Dr. Knight was the only one with the confidence and skill necessary to work on my wrist. I know I made the right choice since I’m able to type this review with ease.
Highly recommended and thank you Dr. Knight for giving me my motion and writing back!

This is the second time I have had trigger finger release surgery and not that the my first experience with a different surgeon was bad, but it wasn’t as great as it was with Dr.Knight. In a sense, from beginning to end, it was truly a quick and painless experience.
He is a brass tax, no fussing around kind of doctor. He is also the first doctor I have ever been to that is on time for appointments and does not make you wait around. He sees you, will assess quickly, done and done.
The surgery was so quick, the recovery was faster than the last and with the added physical therapy, which by the way, they recommended a great place, Hand Therapy Center of South Bay, I am feeling great.
Unfortunately I will most likely need surgery on another finger, but now I know I have a great surgeon to go to.
I also have to mention, loved his website, great information and is why I chose him, he beautiful office and he has a very nice staff. Evelyn even called me after hours one evening from her car to give me info. That is how you show you care for your patients!

Gotta give credit where credits due, Dr. Knight is «Hands» ;) down the Best & seriously comes 2^nd to None. Master of his craft & Care. Besides paying for parking (but then again what did i expect, this is LA after all) lol. Atleast the valet guys are hella cool.
Saw Dr. Knight, & had Great experience! I was in & out in no time without feeling rushed or ignored. Esp compared to past Medical Office/​Hospital experiences, a Dr. visit was like pulling teeth & meant taking the whole day off school/​work.
Checked in, caught a seat in the waiting room. Impressed to see on the Big HD tv, played Tips on Care & some cool Shows the good Doc has been on. Before i knew it they took me to the Xray room for Xrays. Easier than i anticipated, Took a few pictures walk in the park. Then without missing a beat, I was already on my way to see the Doctor. Found it very cool they also pull up the actual Xray they just did, right in front of me on a HD tv (even cooler Dr. Knight goes over it & shows/​explains what he see’s)
A Very Cool dude with a Great Bedside manor. Even better for me, that he was able to explain everything in a way that was really simple & easy for me to understand, Dr. Knight took his time to hear my whole story, looked at my Injuries with the Xray, explained it to me & answered all my questions. We went over some options, recommended an MRI & Nerve Test, and without going too deep into my medical issues, everything is great!
Definitely will be back if i have any future injuries & i Definitely would recommend & send any family member, friend, or loved one of mine.

I’ve been twice, and I ended up going because of the website, which is super informative and easy to understand. Someone obviously put a lot of work into it, so I was happy it was nearby (in LA terms, anyway, because it was about 45 minutes away). The HWI office is really nice — flat screen TVs, modern furniture, granite counter at the front desk, and laidback atmosphere. They get you in right away to see Dr. Knight (hand doctor dude). Dr. Knight is really easy to talk to, puts everything in layman’s terms, and got me to understand why I was getting shock-​like sensations in my hand (pinched elbow nerve). He also has a hint of a southern drawl which I liked (did not factor into the rating, lol). I also saw another guy who did a nerve conduction study and he was just as friendly and easy to talk to, and I got in/​out of the office just as speedily.
They have a nifty patient portal online, too, which makes it easy to book appointments, pay bills and ask questions. It’s a really modern system overall, both the office and online.
Don’t park at the place though, valet is a ripoff. Just park on the street if you can find a place.
