Tugooh Toys & Yiro

Went in to buy my 7 year old nephew a toy for his birthday. Lady walked me around and helped me pick out a lego architecture kit. Great selection, free gift wrapping. Would definitely return.

Perfect location in the middle of Bethesda. Nice quality toys. Wrap gifts for free. Enjoyed looking around.

Truly a gem! Great store in this neighborhood. Has great selection of high quality toys. Most of the toys they sell have carefully been selected to foster creativity and promote learning. You would not find toys that all they do is press a button and make noise. They have a lot of brands from Europe. Also the lay out of the store makes it fun to take my son to play with all toys laid out on the floor for kids just to play with. I patronize the store frequently and have never been disappointed. I have a 4 years old boy and an infant. My boy loves to go in there to play with the stuff. i got him a Brio train set that he loves. They also have in store activities every Thursday and Saturday that we truly appreciate and did I mention it is free!
I would highly recommend this store to anyone looking for quality toy.

Poorly staffed and half empty shelves.
We spoil our son and thats our mistake, but we tend to focus on smaller toy stores who carry a different line of toys than Target or Toys R Us, so we figured we’d stop into this place on our way back to the car from lunch.
We walked in on Sunday morning, there was one employee riding a scooter around the front of the store and 2 more behind the counter. The place was empty, even though the streets were teeming with people. We weren’t greeted by ether of the people working there. The shelves were picked over or hadn’t been restocked. Overall, Child’s Play runs laps around this place.

Yiro and Tugooh Toys isn’t the toy store for everyone. It’s sort of for the slightly hipster, possibly crunchy yet moneybag-​toting parent who couldn’t bear to buy any toy that is both mainstream and uneducational. Sound like your kind of niche toy store? Read on!
Some of the toys here explicitly note that it’s earth friendly and made of recycled materials. Hippie parents, rejoice! Other toys are just too cute but come with rather hefty pricetags. I bought a rotund unicorn stuffed animal (the brand is Squishables) — the other animals Squishables make (most of them being unusual: platypus, snow leopard, bat, and even cthulhu– I had to Google the latter) generally exceed $ 40+. While it was a hit with my 2 year old niece, you gotta be pretty serious about this stuff.
They also carry a wide range of books (seemingly in no particular order) — ranging from classics (Everybody Poops) to more graphically conscious/​off the beaten path (Paul Frank’s Julius, Finland’s Moomin or Taro Gomi picture books). If you want your kid to recognize fine design early on, no better place to pick up some picture books and get him or her crackin’!
Overall, a pretty cool store if you are dying for an alternative to Toys R Us. The staff here aren’t exactly the most helpful so it’s best to go in equipped with an open mind and the expectation to explore the shop.

Yes, they have some fun, unusual, well-​made toys, especially if you are looking for something beyond Disney and the other sacharine characters.
But the staff — sometimes I have to ask if they mind my interrupting them to ask a question; other times, they just look plain unhappy to be there. Sort of takes the fun out of the experience, and makes me want to head to Amazon, where there is much less attitude.

They have a great selection but are kind of expensive. I think they have different toys and books as well as all sorts of different things. However, the staff didn’t seem too friendly and I had to wait a while to get checked out!

Okay, I don’t have kids so maybe it’s not fair that I’m writing this review, BUT I did stop in here recently to buy a gift for a 4 year old’s birthday party and wasn’t disappointed. The store was organized, staff was helpful (free gift wrapping too), and the selection was decent. Yes, the prices were a bit much, but I’d expect that at any shop in downtown Bethesda.
Back to the toys… they had a little something for everyone (most ages, anyway) and a small assortment of clothing in the back of the store. I’d come back for another gift… it’s a nice one-​stop shop for this sort of thing because they sell cards too so you don’t have to go to several places to get the gift, wrapping, etc. That’s worth the extra few dollars in my opinion.

For looking around, this place is great. They have a wide selection and a lot of the stuff that my daughter loves to play with: train sets, kitchens and various princess toys. They even had a 36,000 piece puzzle on the shelf.
However, it is very, very expensive and experience tells me that even the nicest of toys will get shoved to the side while the toothpick my daughter found on the floor gets more attention. I will probably stick to getting her toys at Target.

This store has had a dramatically improved in the last year. Stocked well with great toys, games, books, etc. Parents and grandparents will get help by knowledgeable and sincerely interested personnel — one in particular (manager?) — so that it’s a pleasure to go there now. Kids love it! Not sure they want all the little hands grabbing things but they sure have a tempting set-​up. Sometimes it is helpful to see which age tot goes after which game or toy if you are sans your own children or are gramma and grandpa. (They do help out, something the big toy stores in New York seem to have figured out.) Great store, and worth visiting now that it has hit its stride.

I’m stunned by the negative reviews for this place – it’s been a staple for us for well-​made, often educational toys. Staff has been nothing but pleasant and helpful on my visits. May help that I often visit at off hours without kids in tow, but I’ve never seen a problem with little ones. Yes, some things are cheaper online, but I like to preview a toy before I hand it over.

cons: markup much higher than suggested retail (ouch!)

I am a Bethesda mom who appreciates good European toys for my daughter, but I encourage anyone to think about another option. During the times I have gone, the staff has been anything BUT kid-​friendly, becoming annoyed with the kids when they moved the floor toys around, which one can only assume are there for display/​play toys. I was followed around and asked to clean up after my child who had not actually played with anything. Needless to say, I will NOT be back… You can order the same things on line or get them somewhere else – like IKEA.

Two great stores in one! just opened up in Bethesda Row, right next to Quartermaine Coffee Roasters. this place sells lots of organic eco toys and clothing. The majority of the store is filled with toys, and a small clothing area in the back with limited selection of clothing and furniture pieces on display. Yiro and Tugooh Toys are actually local chains with two separate stores in DC. Staff is very friendly and will help you find just the right item to satisfy any hard to please rug rat or parent. Yes, the stuff in here is expensive, however they have a lot of cool wooden euro toys I usually only see in specialty stores and fancy museum gift shops. make sure to check out the cool mobiles hanging from the ceiling and they also have a cute play area for little ones
FYI: WATCH OUT FOR MOVING CHILDREN! kids WILL run you over as they fling themselves from one toy to the next. i have the bruised shins to prove it… always keep one eye open on anyone under 3 feet tall.
