Established in 1998.

This salon was established in the 90’s and during these past years it has continued to grow, remodel and improve to serve you better. We have the best selection of tanning beds, UV free Mystic Tan and UV free Airbrush Tanning in the area.

Our Bethesda location is convenient to Metro users and it has a parking lot!

You can’t go wrong here. They have amazing beds priced super reasonable and will accept coupons from other local salons. Not to mention their amazing staff! I first came here with a belly bite for a free tan (if it was your first time). Well the belly didn’t work and I ended up buying a tan which super sucked because I anticipated something free. The bed was fabulous and the lotion that was suggested got me so dark in one go (unheard of for me). So of course I came back and when I did the owner had heard my story and felt bad so she gave me a free tan! This is the place to go hands down.

I have been going to this tanning salon ever since high school and I am still coming back as a 27 yr old. This salon provides excellent customer service, a clean environment, a large assortment of products and top notch management. They often have great deals going on for buying tanning packages and/​or lotions. The manager is extremely dedicated to her customers and she not only knows almost everyone by name, but she also knows her products inside and out! It’s the only salon I can go to where I don’t feel like I’m getting ripped off! It’s the only salon I would go to in the area without a doubt!!!

The only tanning salon in Bethesda-​Rockville area I would ever go to, I’m used to beach bum tanning salons (New York), nothing in MD compares to them, but this place comes close with their Master sun bed. No monthly membership needed, you can pre-​pay your tanning packages, which is better, because I only go once every 2 weeks. For out-​of-​towners used to a quality tan, this is your best bet.

The people working here are very helpful. Especially a blonde woman. It takes me a while to tan (red hair, blue eyes) and many places assume I burn easily and argue with me about how long to go in for. Not here, Idc if it’s because they don’t care if I burn or they consider me adult enough to decide for myself. Either way I like it here. They don’t have a large lotion selection like they do in NY tanning beds but there is a sign that says they can order in. I’m leaving Maryland soon but I’m glad I found this place to start my base tan.

So a quick update! Less than 24 hours after writing my review, I was contacted by the manager at At the Beach Tanning who apologized and offered to make up for my past experience. I was shocked, not only because I was contacted by the manager but by how quick and how much she really wanted to fix the situation. It’s rare to have a manager care that much. Based on the managers quick response and offer to make up for my past experience, I wanted to change my rating for them. Maybe I just got someone on a bad day, everyone has those. I’m still concerned about the color, maybe my skin type just doesn’t mix well, regardless, I was impressed with the quick response and willingness to make up for the situation. Maybe it’s worth a second shot.

My experience here has been completely positive. I live in Bethesda so I was delighted to find them close by. For that reason, despite some negativity in some reviews, I decided to see for myself. I am happily losing my pasty-​whiteness of winter in a clean, well-​managed, and friendly place. Their price packages are similar to other places. I haven’t done spray tanning, but the beds work just like anywhere else and I am delighted, in all respects, to have found them. Free parking for ½ hour. 60 cents more for a second half hour. Metered parking on the street. The central location makes it easy to combine with other errands. I could not be more pleased!

I am very pleased thus far with At the Beach. They have a wide selection of quality beds to choose from and a lot of different plans to meet your needs. Paying by individual tans would be very expensive but buying packages makes it a lot more affordable. They also offer military discounts. They also use Belly which allows you to accrue points for free lotion or tanning. The staff has always been informative and pleasant. I’m not trying to get super tan but they have a wide variety of beds to get whatever you’re looking for. I never have to make an appointment and I’m able to walk in anytime and get the bed I want. They also have great hours in case you want to go late in the evening.

The staff is really helpful and nice. I always feel welcome even though i just come here occasonally bc i have a membership with another tanning chain! They never push you to buy any of their products but their beds are mostly old. It’s not very clean and some beds have no fan what makes it super sweaty and hot! If the beds would be more up to date i would love it and give it 5 stars. Oh, what i also like is their deals. 65 $ for two custom airbrush spray tans!!! AWESOME!!!

While the people at the front desk are great, the bed, unfortunately, are not. My husband and I bought a package deal (3 tans) and neither of us have seen any color come of it (we have used 2 of the 3). We use the least expensive beds, so while that may be part of the problem, you would figure that one would get at least a little color after sitting in a bed for 20 minutes… disappointed.

I came here after purchasing a Groupon for a spray tan (VersaSpa). I had done the VersaSpa before and knew what to expect. The tan was pretty even. The staff was polite, and most importantly, the place was clean. I also appreciate the place stays open late. Also, there’s a parking lot, which is a huge convenience since no one wants to take public transportation after a spray tan!

Looks like they’ve finally solved the problem by getting rid of Mystic entirely and replacing it with Versa. I was finally able to use my remaining spray tan on my account this week.
I can say the Versa is exponentially better. Not only is it less claustrophobic and easier to breathe, which makes the experience much more comfortable, it doesn’t smell as bad and also has an instant bronzer which is nice.
The color came out pretty good.
One thing I will say — if they had any barrier cream I wasn’t shown it and didn’t see it — so my palms, nail beds and the bottom of my feet looked pretty gross for the first couple days until it washed off.
The color came out a little uneven on my legs but I think I know how to fix that for next time (YES, I WOULD choose the Versa there again!).
They tell you to do three positions facing forward, one facing backward — I think I would alternate more to get a more distributed coverage.

Tried this place twice. The actual facility was fine — but the receptionist was pretty rude. I tried the airbrush tan for the first time and they didn’t really give me the details about how long to wait before showering or how to keep my tan looking good. They use a dye to help the tech see how the tan will look, but they should have explained that when you shower the next day, the dye will wash off or could even rub off on your clothes before you shower.
The people who actually do the work there (besides the receptionist) are nice and friendly. The waiting area is pretty small so if it’s crowded, there’s no place to sit.
