Scott the Fix It Guy

As a young female living by herself I’m always hesitant to hire repair guys to come into my home. I’ve had many experiences where they try to rip me off or are creeps. I had another local repair business send someone over to give me a price on repairing my dryer and he quoted me $ 500. He was obviously thinking that I was some kind of idiot who would buy his BS. I bought the entire washer and dryer stack for $ 200 used. It kills me that in this day and age people still try to profile others this way, especially women.
Set up an appointment via email with Scott, super easy. He had a pleasant attitude, was prompt (arrived exactly on time) and didn’t bother me at all. Did his work and then left, took a little over an hour. He fixed my dryer for $ 150! So happy to have a dryer that doesn’t squeak like crazy anymore! I will definitely be contacting him in the future for any other repairs.

Ok — the previous reviews say it all… so in summary: prompt in response and appointment times; competent and efficient; straightforward and trustworthy; nice, decent and pleasant to work with; highly recommend. And, to add, for those who ‘wonder or are skeptical’ about Unilocal reviews: I found Scott on Unilocal just by searching, read the reviews and trusted they were honest and not ‘paid’ for… and wasn’t asked to write a review! Since me and hubby are totally not ‘fix it’ people, I’m certain down the road, we will have Scott back to our home as things age…

Our old washing machine broke (the water wouldn’t drain) and Scott was able to diagnose and fix the problem quickly. Communication and scheduling was a breeze and his prices were very reasonable! He’s also just a very nice and friendly guy. Thanks again Scott! We’ll definitely keep you in mind for other home repairs!

Scott fixed our dishwasher today and I was so grateful not just for the excellent, reasonably priced service, but also for his professional, positive, and helpful attitude. It’s just not that common to come away from an interaction with a repair person actively smiling. But I learned a lot from him about how dishwashers work, how to prevent these kinds of problems in the future, and possibly how to fix it myself next time, should I be so motivated. I found myself trying to think of other appliance problems I had in the house so that I could make use of his services again!

Scott seems to be a good and decent man and, more importantly, he seems to know what he is doing.
We’ve got an old Kenmore fridge that basically conked out. These units generally last for 12 to 14 years and this one, at over 15 years old, was on its last legs.
The thing is, as home owners, we’re constantly prioritizing necessary expenses around the house and the fridge took us off-​guard. We already have to replace the friggin’ oven, so this additional expense would have been something of a burden.
Thankfully Scott dropped by and breathed life into this thing for a 135 dollars.
All I know is that the freezer is now freezing stuff and my Dr. Pepper is cold and we can worry about the refrigerator later.

I immediately give five stars to any professional contractor that provides detailed free advice that solves the problem — knowing that this successful advice is actually preventing him from getting a paid gig. That’s exactly what Scott did in my case.
I emailed Scott last night about a range hood blower that had stopped turning. Based on my description, Scott diagnosed the probable cause, gave me detailed instructions on how to potentially remedy it, and his advice enabled me to partially disassemble the unit and get it working again.
What a refreshing change from the common scenario of a contractor coming to the customer’s premises, glancing at a job, saying «I can’t fix this,» and charging the House Call fee.
By the way, Scott is still answering my follow-​up questions via email. Thanks, Scott! I really appreciate the assistance!

If I could give six stars, I would. The nicest guy going, he fixed my dryer many many months ago, performing a contortionist trick to get behind it. He’s pretty tall, so it was amazing.
When my dishwasher clogged this morning and I called him, he responded immediately with a link to a YouTube video of his showing how to fix it. It worked, giving me immense satisfaction and saving a few shekels in the process.
The guy is a prince.

Scott fixed our clothes dryer a few days ago. When I told him we were desperate, he offered to come the next day. Turns out, it was an easy fix. but we had something wrong with our washer – so he worked on that as well and just charged the same service visit price!

Scott is wonderful. He was on time, friendly, and professional. His prices are very reasonable. He did a great job fixing my dishwasher. He got it working and then it malfunctioned a week later and he came back to fix at no cost. Now it’s all better. He also let me watch what he was doing so I could learn and do it myself the next time. I’ve tried a bunch of different handyman and appliance repair people and Scott was the best.

I’m rating Scott the Fix It Guy as «Woohoo! As good as it gets.» He rates a cut above all the rest. My european dishwasher is a good one — it economizes on water and runs quietly, and it’s only been serviced twice in 18 years. Scott went over the entire appliance to find out not just what was wrong with it, but what might go wrong. On his advice I ordered two small parts from the manufacturer; and he took the time to demo how to slip the parts into place once they arrive. He also installed an after-​market replacement part that works just fine and saved me several hundred dollars over the brand-​name part. No other technician I know has his philosophy of assistance first by troubleshooting (email, photos) to get to the heart of the problem. Scott helped me save time and money, and most importantly, he fixed the appliance expertly. He is also prompt, courteous, and considerate; and he was kind to my too eager puppy dog who couldn’t contain his curiosity about our visitor working on the floor. Without hesitation I recommend Scott for appliance repair.

So this review is based on service he didn’t do because he never came. I called him several times during the hours listed I never got a call back or response. He emailed me back and forth, made an appointment, and then never showed up. I have no idea where this guy gets good reviews when he can’t show up for his appointments.

Scott emailed me through a couple of things for my ailing oven. He is a miracle worker. He
fixed it without ever having to come over to my house!

Based on all of the good reviews, I called Scott to fix our dishwasher leak. A previous reviewer suggested that it’s useful to give him the model number in advance, and I was even able to locate the part number that I thought it might need.
Scott showed up right on time, with the part in hand, and had the leak fixed within a half an hour. He’s very professional and personable, and educated me on ways to keep the dishwasher maintained. He also gave me some tips on our washer and dryer to keep them running longer.
I couldn’t be happier with him, and feel confident about using him whenever needed!

Scott returned recently to fix something that went awry on my recently-​repaired dryer. I am so appreciative. It’s such a pleasant relief to have a reliable, honest and personable person to rely on for stuff like this.

Scott fixed my no-​longer-​cold refrigerator after first trying to help me fix it myself via email. It turned out the fan needed to be replaced, but once he came out, he diagnosed the problem quickly, got the fan, replaced it and voila — -all works like new. Reasonably priced, no drama, honest and friendly. In brief, highly recommended!

Scott has come out to fix several different issues with my appliances. I find him to be great at communication (email and phone), extremely friendly, punctual, and he does great work.

Scott was awesome! He came out fixed my washing machine right up with no problem, charged me a completely reasonable fee, and he was super nice and friendly to boot. He made it quick and painless. I plan on always calling him when I need an appliance repaired. Great guy!
Tip:
Be prepared with the model number of your appliance when contacting Scott. It will speed up the repair process. He showed up with the right parts to fix the issue. No return visit was needed.

This review is long overdue. Scott helped my husband and I so much when we first moved into our house a few months ago. It was a very stressful time with so many things going wrong in the house and waiting for new appliances to come in. In my experience, other repairmen haven’t been very friendly, but it was so refreshing and comfortable having Scott help us out! We were so lucky to find him through Unilocal and have him fix some broken burners on the stove. He came back again to help us hook up our washer and dryer, and he was nice enough to take a look at some other things. To reiterate what other reviewers have said, Scott is very helpful, very friendly, very knowledgeable, trustworthy and just an all around GREAT guy! We are so happy we found our go-​to fix-​it guy!!! Also, we recently needed help with some plumbing issues and he was able to refer us to another great guy! Thanks so much, Scott! :)

Scott helped us install our new Samsung washer and dryer after Best Buy/​Pacific Sales pretty much took one look at our set-​up and abandoned us! He was easy to work with, easy to schedule, and was very friendly as he worked on our machines. He went out to Home Depot to get a part we didn’t have and even returned for a second visit when the dryer still wasn’t working at 100%. Scott was great to work with! Highly recommend him for all your appliance repair needs!

Scott is an awesomely nice guy. He means well.
But after four return visits, I now use a bowl under our dishwasher because it leaks **that much**. Before he came, it only leaked when the rubber tubing wasn’t hooked up right.
Now it leaks all the time. All the time.
A cereal bowl full of water each cycle.
I asked — and he did come — four times. Leak leak leak. He made me order the supplies to fix it — which turned out to be wrong.
And at the end, he have me some «self help» advice. But very clear he was done.
And now. We have a bowl under our dishwasher to catch water.
Do not go down this road.
