Description

Specialties

Located in the heart of downtown Berkeley, Saturn Café features a completely vegetarian menu. We take all of your favorite American diner foods with the yumminess you know and love and prepare them in a more healthy way. The atmosphere at the Saturn Café is that of childhood fantasies, a family-friendly place where dressing up in a costume can happen on any night of the year.

History

Established in 1979.

The Saturn Café was started in a small house in Santa Cruz in 1979, and served soups, salads, sandwhiches and great desserts. One of the current owners began working at the Saturn while in college in 1991. She bought the Saturn in 1995 and transformed the vegetarian coffee house into a full fledged vegetarian diner.

On New Years Eve of 199899 the location on Mission St burnt down, and we decided to move to a larger, round building in downtown Santa Cruz. We expanded our menu and hours to 3 a.m. and have become nearly iconic in Santa Cruz.

In 2010 we opened our Berkeley location, which has one thing Santa Cruz does not… We are thrilled to announce the opening of the Space Lounge, where we will have live shows, DJ’s, kareoke, and feature local artwork on the walls. The Space Lounge will be available for private parties, events and more.

Meet the Business Owner

Tristan N.

Business Owner

I started working at the Saturn in Santa Cruz in 1991, when I was in college at UCSC. I bought the Saturn in 1995, and have now spent most of my adult life owning this incredible restaurant.

I moved to Oakland a few years ago with my daughter, and have been aching to create another community space, featuring local food and local artists, that brings together the wide range of people that are drawn to the Saturn. I couldn’t be happier to have opened a second location in Berkeley.

I thank my lucky stars (space pun intended) every day that I am able to do something I love so much as my job.
