Leopi does *amazing* bodywork. She sees your body as a whole and works on every part of it so that by the end of the session, all the kinks, tension, aches, and sores are released. You’ll feel like a million bucks. I recommended a friend with chronic shoulder issues to her and she can’t stop raving about the progress that she’s made with Leopi and how much better she feels. Leopi is not someone you go to week after week, month after month, she’s into real healing. Nevertheless, after the effects of poor habits, poor posture, and life’s stresses build up in your body again, you may find yourself back for a tune up to get that *all-​is-​well/​cloud-​nine/​completely relaxed* feeling again. And because the body and mind have such a deep connection, it’s like emotional therapy as well. You’ll feel like a new person, a *much* better person who is much more at-​ease. How do you review your fairy godmother? It is impossible to put into words the gratitude and adoration I feel for Leopi. As a pediatrician, it was important to me to chose a midwife with a ton of experience and a deep intelligence about pregnancy, birth and postnatal care. Leopi made me feel safe and secure in her knowledgable hands. However, Leopi is not just clinically astute and skilled. Her compassion, understanding, and support of me as a whole person was what made her an incredible midwife. She pays attention to the emotional, psychological, and spiritual aspects of birth in a way that is so severely lacking in conventional OB care. Appointments with Leopi are like a conversation with a dear friend — and all of a sudden two hours have gone by and you are laughing and crying and hugging and can’t wait until you see her again. Leopi brings such joy and love to supporting mamas and babies and families, and it is contagious!
I had never heard of ortho-​bionomy before I met Leopi (and I have received A LOT of body work), but she is clearly a master. An ortho-​bionomy session three days after my water broke and labor hadn’t started completely released my body and opened me up to a quick and easy labor and birth. Her magic continued with my newborn baby after she hadn’t pooped for 8 days. 20 minutes with Leopi and she fell into the deepest slumber, followed by a massive poo! I am looking forward to seeing her for more postpartum ortho-​bionomy in the future.

Leopi is a gifted healer and a beautiful soul. I feel so lucky to have discovered her though the recommendations of a coworker who gave me her information when I shared that I was having some intense lower back and hip pain. For context, I have had intermittent but debilitating lower back and hip pain for the past 12 years, which I would occasionally go to a chiropractor for. While my experiences with a chiropractor were often helpful in elevating some initial pain, I found that my body would slip back out of alignment easily which unreassuringly, left me with the feeling that I would always have problems. After just one session with Leopi, the full body muscle freak out was relaxed and I was left with just a little nugget of tight muscle which relaxed over the course of the next day. Meanwhile, Leopi followed up with texts to check on my progress. I went back for a 2^nd session and we were able to work out what had felt like a permanent hitch in my left hip! It was such a joyous moment to feel my body aligned in a pain free and in what I can only describe as a natural neutral state. And the pain has not returned. For those who might not know what orth bionomy is (I didn’t!), the actual work consisted of me lying on a comfortable table while Leopi very gentle felt my spine and pelvic bone alignments and then gentley rocked my limbs and/​or held them at certain (comfortable) angels. After having experienced the often rough chiropractic realignments, I was amazed at how gentle and effective Leopi’s realignments were! If you are suffering from any kind of chronic pain or even just a random muscle spasm/​spine misalignment etc. I can’t recommend Leopi enough!

I woke up one morning and could barely move my neck. I saw a chiropractor, got a massage, took two day off work… nothing helped.
Until I saw Leopi. After one session, almost all my pain was gone. My whole body felt more in-​line, I felt rested (even fell asleep during the session!), and the pain has not returned. Leopi followed up, over text, to help me stay aware of how my body was responding, and to keep up with how I was feeling.
Such a wonderful, calming, healing experience. And not just for my neck, the reason I initially saw her. I can’t recommend her highly enough.

My lower back and leg pain has been reduced dramatically since I met with Leopi. I have tried doctors and chiropractic care — which are all beneficial, but this treatment made the most notable difference for me. She has very careful and strong healing hands.
On the outset she just moved parts of my body and limbs and I did not think much of it. At first I could not feel any change but within a week I noticed a slight improvement with my pain. Going through the intensely personal and intense journey of pregnancy, homebirth, and postpartum with Leopi was a deeply satisfying and empowering experience. She was attentive to me, my partner, and my 5 yr old son throughout the process and was immediately responsive whenever we had questions. She had a really clear grasp on our hopes for this birth and while we were aware that birth can go many ways and little is predictable, she seemed to hold our vision sacred so that as we neared labor, we were actively engaged in creating a calm, connected and joyful environment in which to give birth.
Leopi was able to strike the delicate balance between allowing us to birth our son in a way that felt utterly our own, and being there with expert guidance and intervention whenever it was called for. My partner was empowered to support me throughout the process and despite the fast labor (this was my second homebirth) we were given the space and time to connect deeply and work as a team to birth our son.
As often is the case with birth, there were some variables we didn’t expect, and Leopi handled them with expert precision and skill. Leopi provides her clients with orthobionomy (body work) sessions before and after the birth, and this is just one example of how generous and how nurturing she is. These sessions were incredibly effective in bringing me into a state of relaxed openness before the birth, and healing and reintegration after the birth. We feel so lucky to know Leopi and to have had her as our midwife.

For context: I am a deep tissue massage therapist of 11 years myself, I have an active practice in Oakland, I live in El Cerrito and I LOVE going to Leopi’s studio in Vallejo. The ambiance is pure magic. Her paintings flank the walls, she always has geranium in the air and her singing bowls often round out a beautiful sensory journey.
Orthobionomy is unlike other forms of massage in that the client is clothed and the treatment is «quieter» but in many ways more effective than traditional Swedish massage. I am a huge huge fan and I feel that it compliments my other wellbeing practices perfectly. Leopi is very skilled in her work, she has a thorough understanding anatomy and physiology in addition to the subtler energetic structures that govern our health– this is a rare combination in a practitioner. So I’ve given birth three times, all at home, and I’ve come to know a thing or two about midwives. And having once found myself midwife-​free and full term with my second baby during the Winter holiday season, I have now interviewed, emailed, and web-​investigated pretty much every midwife in Norcal. And while I found many a friendly and competent one, Leopi stood far outside the pack for intangible reasons. She’s like a different species. I was having a hard time doing her justice with this Unilocal review, because a) I never Unilocal and b) I’m severely sleep deprived with babes who are 3, 2, and 0 years old right now… but Leopi deserves 1000 golden reviews, and so I’m slopping this one out for her! After deleting my first two horrid attempts, it hit me! Hiring Leopi as your midwife is like hiring Mary Poppins instead of a getting a babysitter off of craigslist. She is simply magical and otherworldly — in a league of her own. My partner and I were smitten within an instant. She had us cracking up about her own births and times as a babymama in a hay bale mud hut and sleeping by a pot stove on a fur blanket during her teepee pregnancy, and unlike any other, she listened with real empathy to my prior birth stories and pregnancy experiences. I related to her own personal birth stories — super fast and intense like mine, her sense of humor, and the peace and respect with which she surrounds the subject of birth.
She celebrates pregnancy and birth as it should be celebrated. Hers is the only home birth checklist I’ve seen that includes a bottle of champagne and fine cheeses! Because she knows how to make things truly wonderful, beautiful, memorable. How to add that final extra touch.
Having spent two of my pregnancies with well-​respected, top-​rated Bay Area midwives with no complaints, I can say that my time with her was just extra-​magical. The others were competent and kind. And she is that but also enthusiastic, creative, intuitive, skilled as an orthobionimist, a painter, passionate, empathetic, sensitive. She knows how to eat well, which herbs to use and why. She is familiar with homeopathy. She listens with her whole being.
She also treats the family holistically — and not just the pregnant belly. On our first appointment, instead of just taking my measurements and asking a few medical questions, she sensed that there was something off between me and my partner — and she was SO right! I was blown away. No one else we’d met with had dared call us out on it. She made us laugh and told us how to fix our shit with humor and directness. I felt like I’d been given the gift of finding a baby-​fairy for me, my baby, and our whole existing family. Sensing this, our toddlers would crawl up onto her lap at our appointments.
After our births, she would get so excited and ‘into it’ all — and her enthusiasm was infectious. In our sleepy daze we’d watch her take footprints, make artful prints with the placenta, take photographs of the sac. We’d share laughs and joy and stare at our baby in awe.
Also, speaking purely logistically: having seen 10 of them, her home birth kit was my favorite: the most thoughtful and complete. Get her kit and you’re set.
I once met a friend who’d had Leopi as a midwife and her comment stuck with me. She said, «What really sucks about having a midwife is that at some point, you have to let them go.» Leopi’s that good. She’s so good — so vibrant, real, so involved and life-​changing, that when your baby has had it’s last visit from her, you’re going to fall into mourning. Luckily, you can still see her and meet a ton of cool people at her annual family potluck! :-)

I picked Leopi for my second pregnancy after feeling underserved in my first. I interviewed over 10 midwives and found Leopi to be extremely experienced and approachable. She was very focused on helping me have a different birth experience than my first; in giving me an experience which felt more managed more supported. I am grateful to say that she totally delivered.
During her prenatal visits we focused on discussing how to make this birth different. She brought much wisdom and confidence to the process leading up to the birth.
When the big day came she showed up as soon as we needed her and provided expert guidance through the birth. She brought reverence, joy and professionalism to the entire experience.
But Leopi is so much more than a midwife. Her extensive knowledge of herbal remedies, homeopathy and orthobionomy made it so that I had one person who deeply understood my pregnancy who could also bring expertise in multiple modalities to assist when I needed more than basic check-​ups. I was confident that all of her work was integrated and holistically supporting my pregnancy.
This pregnancy I developed severe daily hip pain. Nothing really helped the pain. After trying a few different treatments, Leopi performed an orthobionomy session on my body and the pain disappeared. The orthobionomy sessions also helped me quickly recover from the postpartum aches and pains, something I wish I had had for my first birth.
I would recommend Leopi to anyone seeking a wise, confident skilled midwife who will tend to your family, soul, mind and body. She is amazing.

Even before we got pregnant we knew we wanted to have a home birth. The only problem was, finding a great midwife. It took us a while to actually find one that we felt comfortable with. I looked at so many midwives websites and did not feel the connection with their «values» and services. I wanted someone who would include my partner in the process and the other midwives talked about «woman empowerment» and all that modern talk about doing it yourself.
After meeting Leopi we decided she was the one, she’s so warm, friendly, knowledgeable and has tons of years of experience.
Leopi is very flexible, she comes to your house for every single appointment except when the momma gets her ortho-​bionomy treatment! which in three words, ITS THE BEST!!! during my pregnancy I hurt my back and had severe pain on my lower back for days! during one of our appointments Leopi worked on me for TEN minutes and voila, the pain was gone! that’s when I became a believer of ortho-​bionomy.
If she becomes your midwife you get a few sessions and trust me, you will need them when you are pregnant. She also worked on my husband and his «bad knee» was no longer his bad knee.
I always felt really comfortable with her and she always took the time to answer ALL of our questions and concerns. I could have not asked for a better midwife to deliver our little baby boy.
I highly recommend Leopi for both her midwife services and ortho-​bionomy.

I met Leopi a year back while working at a natural grocery store in the East Bay. Coming from a martial arts background myself, with a strong emphasis on studying tai chi and chi gung energetics, I immediately recognized her as a healer and creative being. Lo’ and Behold, I discovered that she is a midwife and an large scale healing arts painter though talking to her and received her business card. On her business card, in addition to showing that she was a midwife and an artist, it mentioned that she provided Ortho-​bionomy services as well. Instantly I wanted to know what ortho-​bionomy was.
A year passed, and after moving to a new apartment, and quitting 3 jobs, I finally make the point to see her for a session. The first session that I had with her was I think more of a general session that looked at the alignment of my feet, shoulders, torso, arms, legs. basically a full body scan that used gentle, non-​invasive movements to target stuck or contracted areas and release tension or holding patterns that I had in my body. I felt incredibly wonderful afterwards, and it I felt more refreshed after the session and adjusted to the new sensations I had in my system. I would say that it is better than many many massages that I have received (if not better), and held in the healing much longer than a regular massage would. On the second session, she was able to re-​align uneven leg lengths that I had and helped my spine be more stabilized, aligned and balanced per my request that day. It was so incredibly helpful since I currently am a dogwalker and need to be out and about often. To this day, three weeks later, my spinal alignment and even-​leg lengths are still holding up.

In a word? Unbelievable. I had never experienced ortho-​bionomy before I hired Leopi as my midwife for our home birth. If you’ve never had it before, it’s almost impossible to comprehend. It’s basically the massage equivalent of homeopathy. Tiny motions are used to target places deep in your body to remind your body how it’s connected. It sounds ethereal, but it feels like a massage from the inside out.
The midwifery fee package we selected included a few pre– and post-​partum ortho bionomy sessions, and let me tell you, I would have had a hard time without them. She was able to show me how connected my body was, and she made it even more connected, giving me a lot of confidence that my body, Leopi and I would communicate well during labor. One really important moment for me was when we had a session after I pulled my round ligament at 9 months pregnant. I was limping around the house with no relief, and after a session, I could walk with zero pain! I could feel that ligament was still tender, but she taught my other muscles how to support my body without pulling on the ligament.
Anyway, if you’re struggling with pain during pregnancy, or just in general, Leopi CAN help you!

I found Leopi online with all the wonderful reviews and was intrigued that she was a midwife and did ortho-​bionomy. I immediately scheduled an initial consultation and ortho treatment. Leopi was compassionate and generous with her time, she answered all my questions with knowledge and insight. Though I ended up choosing to give birth at a birth center due to family circumstances and other reasons, I continued ortho — bionomy treatments with Leopi. These sessions helped me with my tailbone pain, neck pain, and kept me in balance throughout my pregnancy. I would enter the session worried and tired, but would leave full of energy, and feeling positive. Leopi is encouraging, skillful, experienced, and intuitive. During the treatments, she would make comments about my labor that turned out to be true. Such as, «your labor will be fast» or «the baby is holding his hand near the head». Ortho-​bionomy has also helped me and my newborn during postpartum. After the treatments, my baby would be able to sleep much more soundly. I believe the work of Leopi’s hands played a important part in making my pregnancy a smooth and wonderful experience.

Leopi’s knowledge of the woman’s body, pregnancy, & birth is astounding. She has been a midwife for over 20 years and has the knowledge and humble confidence that comes with that level of experience. In terms of pure talent and credentials, there are very few midwifes in the Bay Area that come close to her level expertise. For me having a midwife with her level of experience was important when deciding to have a home birth.
I truly believe that pregnancy is one of the most vulnerable yet beautiful times in a woman’s and couples life. Having a guide to help you navigate this time can be amazingly helpful. That is what Leopi was for us, and incredible guide.
Leopi provided amazing medical care for me and my daughter during the pregnancy, birth, and for the weeks after the birth. From providing nutritional counseling to addressing any of the various concerns I had during pregnancy, Leopi always gave sound guidance. Because Leopi is also a trained homeopath and ortho-​bionomist, she is able to give amazing insight on all levels of body, mind, and spirit.
Leopi’s warm and calm personality always set me at ease. Especially near the end of the pregnancy when I was ready to be done and fed up with being pregnant, whenever I saw Leopi I felt better. My partner and I loved our visits with her. She is just an amazing and awesome lady that is wonderful to be around.
One thing that I feel is unique about Leopi is that she took the time to really work with my partner and I as a couple and individually. This made a huge difference during the pregnancy. She provided the space for my partner and me to approach our pregnancy as couple, and to take the time to witness and appreciate each other throughout the process. We came out of the pregnancy a lot stronger and more in love. Leopi gave us wonderful advice that we have incorporated into our approach to parenting. We are so happy and respectful of each other as parents, and I know a huge part of that is due to the advice and guidance that Leopi gave us during the pregnancy.
Another amazing aspect of Leopi is her care after the birth, she not only treats the mama, she becomes a true fairy godmother for the baby. She gave cranial-​sacral and ortho-​bionomy treatments to my daughter and it was amazing to see how much my little newborn daughter responded to Leopi’s healing hands. Leopi’s presence during and after the birth was so supportive and caring.
There is so much thought that goes into picking a midwife, it is an amazingly personal decision. All I can say is that I am SOOOOOO happy we picked Leopi. She is our fairy godmother forever!

Leopi is a highly-​experienced and gifted midwife and body-​worker! We have two children. The first child was born in 2004 in the hospital and although my son was born healthy, the experience of birthing in the hospital left me feeling disempowered. When we became pregnant with our second in 2008, I knew I wanted a home birth. We interviewed many midwives and when we met Leopi we knew instantly she was it! Leopi stood out for being experienced, knowledgable, humble and kind.
She did a thorough job in preparing myself, my partner and our pre-​school aged son for the birth. Her home visits were equal parts check-​up, education and bonding time. She patiently answered all of our questions and addressed any concerns. A large part of our pre-​natal healthcare centered around nutrition. Our family’s diet was enhanced by Leopi’s recommendations of nourishing foods, herbs, vitamins and homeopathic remedies — I’d never felt so healthy!
The birth itself went quickly. My partner and I felt completely supported and cared for by Leopi and her assisting midwife. Leopi was calm, confident and firm when she needed to be. The birth of my daughter was beautiful and peaceful and we owe much of it to Leopi.
Recently I went to see Leopi for an ortho-​bionomy session. With her skill of listening to the body and light touch, I was able release pain in my hip area.
We are very lucky to have Leopi in our lives and I hope the same for you!

I cannot offer enough lovely feedback for Leopi, both as a midwife and ortho-​bionomy practitioner. Leopi’s masterful midwifery skills extend well beyond amazing pre-​natal and birthing care — her post-​natal offering of ortho-​bionomy has brought a tremendous level of intention and love to both myself and my daughter.
The sessions Leopi has provided for my daughter have been thoughtful, serene and filled with care. Leopi speaks the language of babies — in her time with our girl she was able to melt away newborn discomfort and listen to what was needed in her little body. I witnessed my daughter’s state slowly transform from fussy to relaxed in her sessions, a wonderful experience for a new Mama.
And the same can be said for my own sessions, as well. After my first time giving birth, Leopi was perfectly in tune with what my body and spirit needed. Her healing touch and understanding way of holding of my experience freed tension and pain and invited a deeper connection to myself and what I needed. I left our sessions feeling relaxed and open, such a gift! I highly recommend Leopi. She is an extremely gifted & very knowledgable Midwife and a special healing bodyworker. From my experience of her ortho bionomy work, as well as receiving information from her around my pregnancy, she has a unique ability to deeply in tune herself with her clients bodies and what they need (ive also sent a friend to her and know several others who have used her for ortho bionomy as well as midwife services).
She has always shown a sensitivity to my needs and has gone out of her way to be both helpful and supportive.
And If you find that your body has energy in it — muscle and tissues and more — that feels «stuck» or painful, her work can release that in ways that other bodywork may not be able to.
One time I went to see her for ortho bionomy, in the most gentle way possible, she was able to release a slight uncomfortability I have had in my hip for 4 years. another time after tripping and breaking my fall with my arms her bodywork, as well as advice reduced the pain in my chest and back by 70% and probably saved me 100’s of dollars.
Again, I highly recommend her and suggest having a session of ortho bionomy and using her other services.

We welcomed our 2^nd child in August 2009 with Leopi by our side and now our 3^rd a couple of weeks ago. My first child was born in the hospital and was an efficient unmedicated vaginal delivery but was lacking on many levels. I turned to home birth when I got pregnant for the 2^nd time. Our first birth with Leopi in 09 was a transformative experience on every level for our entire family. It was such a phenomenal experience that when I got pregnant again without any doubt, we called Leopi. She is very experienced, about 25years, so her clinical judgement is quite refined. As a NICU nurse, clinical judgement was the defining factor for me. Since I had confidence in her judgement I was able to trust her in guiding us though the pregnancy & birth. On top of that, she is warm, funny, and nurturing. She was very good about engaging all of us (me, husband, older children, and my mom who were all present at the both births) and addressing our individual questions/​concerns.
In addition she practices ortho-​bionomy and integrates it with her midwifery practice. Ortho-​bionomy is a gentle type of body work that helps with pain/​stress in the body which was a huge plus for my aching back! Also, my 09 child born tongue tied & didn’t have a good latch. She transformed her latch in one session. The level and variety of care is unmatched. You will not find anyone that can compare the services that Leopi provides nor anyone that can do so with so grace, humility and expertise.

This is such a long overdue review. There are really no words to express how amazing, knowledgeable, graceful, talented, creative, attentive and empowering Leopi is (I could go on and on).
Leopi helped me heal from a previous traumatic birth experience that resulted in an unnecessary c-​section (see my review of Sage Femme for more info on that). I decided I would happily pay whatever it was worth to have someone I could completely trust to not send me to the hospital unless it was absolutely necessary as well as someone that could competently guide me through a VBAC home birth. Choosing Leopi was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I’ll never forget what she said after the successful and beautiful birth of my daughter at home. she said, «you have new cellular memory»… and she was right. She has been more than I ever hoped for and I truly wish every woman/​family can experience the kind of love, kindness, knowledge and humor Leopi brings to every meeting (she is hilarious).
Leopi and Ellen Levitt are such a great pair. When they had to maneuver my daughter’s arm so that her head would come out first, my husband said it was like a walk in a park to them because they handled it with such ease and grace.
Not only are they knowledgeable and experienced midwives, they have lovely personalities. One of my cherished memories is chatting with them for hours as the sun came up after my daughter was born.
The Ortho Bionomy sessions are very powerful and effective. If I still lived in the bay, i would be seeing her as often as possible.
There is such fear around VBAC home births (well, VBACs in general), but I personally felt safer with Leopi and Ellen than I ever would have at a hospital because I would have most likely ended up with a repeat c-​section if I had been at a hospital, but instead I got to stay in the comfort of my own home and lay with my baby and talk into the morning with my midwives… which is in stark contrast to the experience I had at the hospital (nurses/​strangers coming in every hour to check on me/​baby throughout the night). Having a peaceful environment after the birth of my daughter was such a welcomed change.

how do i even begin to tell how special leopi is and how her warmth and professionalism made our dream of a natural home birth a reality… it is rare that such a sincere, intelligent, and feeling person like leopi comes along.

only regret, i would have engaged leopi sooner, as soon as we knew we were pregnant. her schedule fills up as there are only so many clients a midwife can take on, to avoid birth conflicts. luckily we got the full benefit of her expert guidance and warm, sincere ways. we miss seeing her. she is the coolest. advice– get a meeting with her and decide for yourself. best of luck with your pregnancy.

Leopi is amazing… choosing a midwife is obviously a very personal thing. Several people recommended Leopi to us as a midwife. We chose her because of a clear connection to her as a person, and because my wife saw in Leopi a person capable of guiding her through this initiation in woman-​hood.
Our birth started started strong and fast… You cannot describe the intensity of a birthing to someone who has not been there, and when Leopi arrived it was obvious just how many of these she had attended. There was an air of calm serious presence to Leopi that held the room. She was incredible throughout, and showed her gifts in full when our baby girl got stuck with an umbilical cord wrapped around her head and neck. Leopi never flinched, our daughter is a happy healthy little girl, and what was life and death for an infinite moment became life.
Leopi’s support after the birth was just as incredible, both for my wife and my daughter (and me). She has a whole tool kit of physical and emotional support that she opened without hesitation to our family.
I cannot recommend Leopi strongly enough… she has been a midwife for our family in every meaning of the word.
