Robot Envy Studio

Sammy is great! He had infinite patience with our band, even though we did not know what we were doing, and six hours later we emerged with three solid, impressive recordings. He gave us great advice, knows a lot about music, and I liked how he mixed the tracks. I’ve recorded with him twice, and if we ever write any more songs, I’ll be back.

I was hired to play guitar for a recording session here just last week, and Sammy was quick and efficient. He had total control of the equipment and recording system and wasted no time in setting me up for recording. The recording room was spacious and comfortable, and Sammy was able to tweak my mix so I could hear exactly what was necessary in order to lay down the tracks. Great job!

Recorded here for the first time in August 2010. I have a bass & drums duo that has been recording since 2002. Most of the time we record at a studio in Massachusetts, since that’s where the drummer lives and I used to make it back east every year. But the past year or so haven’t been able to go back, so when the drummer came out here, I decided to look for a local studio. Although I have lived in California for over four years now, I never thought to look for a studio here — I was really surprised how many there are! Unilocal helped me sort through them, and Robot Envy looked like the one most suited to my needs.
I was not disappointed! Sammy was great, he was open to what we wanted to do, which is basically improvise live in the studio. He got us set up with a minimum of hassle, and we were recording within an hour or so. It helped that he has a great sounding drumset, which my drummer loved. We recorded a lot of material which I have been sifting through — the stuff we recorded sounds great! Sometimes engineers can be intimidating (if not outright jerks), but I felt comfortable asking for what I wanted or making suggestions.
In summary, comfortable atmosphere, good location, great sounds. Highly recommended!

Sammy did a great job with our band! Upfront and honest about what he can and can’t do, we were able to get exactly what we needed out of the experience. It’s a great little studio where you feel comfortable, and Sammy is really good at listening and being patient. With all the pretentious studios out there, Robot Envy is a gem.

Had a very fun rehearsal with our band last night. Sammy was there helping out the whole time. You’d never know from the exterior, but there is a well-​appointed little studio in that building. Great use of baffles… we could all hear one another perfectly. Great location too. I highly recommend Robot Envy!
