I just had a desk chair reupholstered at Mignonne. I felt very well taken care of and communicated with through every step of the process. I am thrilled with the final result, which is a bit more funky and creative than I initially thought I wanted, but I am now so happy that I have a lovely and very unique desk chair. Can’t wait for my next project with Mignonne!

Johnelle, Seren, Brian — the whole crew at Mignonne are fantastic, friendly, professional, creative! They gave serious TLC to an old dresser, bedside tables and chair, which now gleam, and completely transformed my battered dining set (stain and upholstery) into something elegant (!) and comfortable. Johnelle took the time to really understand what I was after, gave super advice, communicated about the process clearly and delivered fabulous results!

I’m very pleased with the service I received from Mignonne Décor in November 2014. Knowledgeable and pleasant staff, great color ideas, great sense of style, and excellent results. I purchased a vintage 1960’s footstool from Etsy. I loved it, except that the cushioning was thin, so my heels hurt when I rested my feet on it for more than a half hour. I took it to Mignonne Décor to install more cushioning. This required replacement of the upholstery, since it wasn’t possible to increase the cushioning and preserve the original upholstery. I found both Johnelle and her assistant (sorry, I forgot her name) easy to communicate with. They were able to reduce the price by using good-​quality leather remnants for the new upholstery. The assistant took me up to the upstairs office and together we searched through the remnant piles, from which I eventually chose one remnant in cream yellow for the body, and another in light gray for the piping. The total cost was $ 130 for labor and materials. The wait time was six weeks. Mignonette Décor made special mention on the work order that increasing the cushioning is the entire purpose of the job, which I really appreciated, since I did not want the to be overlooked. I’ve had my new footstool now for about two months and I’m very happy with it. The cushioning is perfect, and it looks great. Mignonne Décor is not cheap, but it is probably not expensive compared with other businesses, either. It is well worth every penny, especially if you need help to come up with a look that is unique, urban, and playful.

Had them redo a vintage chair of mine back in April 2014. They did a great job. Average high end reupholster prices. I like how they consulted on fabric and design. Very nice!

I’m quite a bit late in posting this review — we actually used Mignonne a few years ago — but my wife and I were just talking about the chair that they re-​upholstered for us and so I wanted to make sure I came back and gave them some much-​deserved credit.
Johnelle worked with us to give new life to a chair that meant a lot to my wife since it came from her grandmother. After listening to our thoughts, Johnelle suggested a fabric and piping that was a perfect fit for our design sense and for the chair. (We even searched around just to see what other options were out there and eventually came back to Johnelle’s selection.)
When we got the chair back, we were (and still are) so happy with the way it turned out. I highly recommend Johnelle and Mignonne if you have furniture that needs new life.

Absolutely love this place! The antiques are done with style and a modern twist. They also offer custom upholstery, paint colors, and stains for those that have something in mind. My husband and I bought a dining room table here and brought it with us before we moved out of The bay. We wanted to buy everything! They also offer delivery and are flexible on time and day if you have a smaller car. I would recommend this place for statement pieces, and for the eclectic decorator.

these lovely ladies. Johnelle is amazing, humble, imaginative, budget savvy, skilled, professional, warm and a design goddess. She is mindful of budget and approaches each project as if it is the very most important one.
She has brought my family heirlooms back to life, making rack piece of furniture a conversation starter and a beauty. I’m currently working on an interior design project with her to update the look of my small business. I can’t wait to update my review when it’s complete!

COMPLETELY RUDE OWNER JOHNELLE has no care for customers who don’t appear to have the money to provide her with substantial profit. If you want to be taken seriously show up with a Benjamin taped to your forehead or easily identifiable Designer clothing that can give her a quick evaluation of weather you can afford her overpriced crap furniture she calls vintage. The fact is her products are budget flea market junk that has had a quick sand job, paint job, and a 300% mark up.
I must note that i speak from experience i live very close to the store and has seen the entire process of her business for the last year and a half.

We have also had them make us a custom coffee table. WOW!!! I love this place.

Make sure you come with measurements ready to spend… woman spoke very fast as if she wanted you in and out. its a cute place but I don’t care for the snooty attitude… just because you have a nice shop doesn’t mean you have to be snooty… needless to say I discarded the business card I was given

It’s a very small yet cute shop. If you’re interested in upholstered furniture designs, then this is the place for you.

Johnelle was very patient with me throughout the re-​upholstery process, I couldn’t make up my mind and she helped me sort through ideas I had and worked with me as I neared my final decision! I finally decided on recovering an ottoman and it came out very well, I love it.
I think Mignonne is a refreshing and sweet little spot in Berkeley, worth a look if you are interested in unique items and a great stop for guidance in your re-​upholstry adventures.

Love this store — it is such an original place and as an interior decorator, has really filled a gap in the market for me — Johnelle can always do something original and new with my client’s old furniture, updating tables, bureaus, mirrors, and best of all doing something really amazing with old sofas and armchairs. So often it is better value re-​upholstering beautifully shaped older furniture than buying something new. Very glad to have this fabulous talent close by.

I highly recommend Mignonne Décor for all households. Owner is really nice, she did exactly what we wanted in her own way. Took a six foot something corner hutch directly from a salvage yard to Mignonne and out came the most unique piece of art.

Great value, great service, and always good for the unusual find.
Over the last year we added many things from Mignonne to our inventory, from glass-​mounted photographs to cabinet knobs to cabinets. Johnelle also refinished our kitchen table beautifully, from color scheme to natural oil finish — it was quite a mess before with an ugly dark-​brown epoxy finish. After the table was at home for two weeks Johnelle was extremely accommodating finding some common time in our busy schedules to come to our home (!) and apply the final touches and touch-​ups, absolutely perfect.

Mignonne is a beautiful little store specializing in «shabby chic» furniture makeovers.
The owner has excellent taste and the shop is always changing so it’s fun to
go in and browse – you never know what you’ll find. Mignonne supports local artists (like me). I love this place.

My experience at this place prompted me to write my first Unilocal review, especially because of the disconnect between the 5-​star rating and my experience.
My experience rated only 1-​star, due the extremely dismissive attitude from Johnelle. I was looking to re-​upholster 6 dining chairs, which I thought was a decent size project and would warrant the appropriate attention. I called ahead to find out if this is something they are interested in doing, as I was aware of the artsy pieces they usually deal with. I was told — sure, send us an email with a photo, we will suggest places to look for fabric and we can get started. So far so good. I emailed the photo, get a couple of reccs for fabric stores. After checking out the fabric stores and getting swatches, I went to Mignonne to check whether the fabric I picked was appropriate and this is where things went downhill. Johnelle pretty much flat-​out told me that if I wanted a design consultation, this is something they charge for. Otherwise — I needed to to call around till I found the appropriate fabric.
Uhm, I did that already, just wanted to check in with you before I bought enough for 6 chairs.
Another irritated look by Johnelle, with an explanation of their business — Please, look around, we deal with one-​of-​a-​kind pieces, mostly vintage fabric, and create artistic furniture pieces. If you need something else, you need to do your own legwork, adding that if I didn’t think this was the right fabric, I should check online.
Then she simply walked behind her desk, sat at her computer and the audience was obviously over.
Now, I understand that their main business is artsy pieces. This is why I checked with them first to see if my project was something they wanted to do. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot of hand-​holding, but a simple fabric swatch consultation was certainly appropriate.
I give the place 2 stars, because they really did have interesting pieces on display.
If you are looking to create an art piece, this might be the right place for you. However, if you have a more basic project and budget, you need to look elsewhere, because Johnelle is not interested in your business. And she might not tell you that until you have committed some time and effort to the project. I would go down the street to Giocomo, you will get excellent service there.

Johnelle is an interior designer by trade and her shop, Mignonne Décor reflects it by the beautiful window display and the charming set up.
It’s a rare find here: that shabby chic look I’ve been searching for, that intentional yet unpretentious vintage piece without the pricetag of an antique store.
I bought a small side table from Mignonne and had Johnelle paint over the piece in yellow with that torn edges shabby look. Wah lah, she did it well, and finished it speedily. I was a happy customer.
If only the store is closer to where I live, I’d stop by every week.

For your review of: Mignonne Décor
Just so you know, the shop re purposes furniture bringing pieces back to life– many times saving them from landfill. We do re upholstery and can refinish and or repaint lack luster pieces that clients already own, and vintage fabrics available to view by appointment. The glassware etc is added vintage décor pieces available for purchase. We have a sister store in France, the bohemians, with similar focus! Thank you :)

I first found out about this lil place when I drove by, and saw all the furniture outside on display. I nearly melted. The great thing about this place is there is something different each time you go. She will customize furniture you bring in – or something she has on hand that hasn’t been started.
I found a bookshelf I really loved in her shop & she fixed it up for me for a great price. She has a pay half now, half later plan~ which makes the price seem more affordable.
I love stopping in every now and then just to check out what kind of pieces she has in stock. This place is a must if you love the rustic or antique feel in your home.

A magnificent find!
I went in for the first time last Sunday and found a great metal cabinet from the 40s. It was slightly out of my price point, but Rebecca – the super friendly salesgirl – called up the owner and found out it was 25% off and informed me they had lay-​a-​way! I’ve never purchased anything on lay-​a-​way before, but it was really easy and the best part was I could take the piece home after my first payment.
The owner, Johnelle, delivered the piece to my home on Friday and I’m so glad I made this purchase. Your home can only have so much Ikea, you know?
