Keetsa Mattress

Absolutely love the mattress, box spring, pillows, and sheets we bought at Keetsa in Berkeley. Had been tracking them for years… and finally made a purchase and couldn’t be happier.
Their delivery timeframe was great (btw, they switched business models, and at least in Berkeley store the product has to be delivered to your home). And the delivery service did a fabulous job.
We did a lot of research (probably too much) and Keetsa offers an excellent product for a good price. And eliminates much of the confusion in making a good decision.

The mattresses are affordable and I love that they are eco-​friendly. However, I’m not a fan that they nearly screwed me over. We ordered a murphy wall bed, and were searching for a mattress to go with it. We went in and explained that we were getting this bed, and needed a mattress under 11 inches. The employee was super helpful and immediately explained which beds fit the bill. We tried them out and found one we liked. Because the price was good and it was eco friendly, and we could fit it in our prius, and didn’t need to order, can just go in a buy it, walk out with it, we chose to go with it. The bed was not being delivered for another 2 months, so we waited (the runner up bed we chose at another, commercial, distributor, required a month’s notice for shipping). 2 months later we walk in, buy the bed, and as soon as they hand me the receipt with all the warranty information I notice that murphy wall beds VOIDS THE WARRANTY. I was pissed! Apparently their eco friendly glue is not as strong as the commericial ones, so you can’t leave the bed on its side for long or it will come apart. Now, it was too late to buy the other bed from the other location I wanted, but their bed would not work! The employees were sorry, but in the end still screwed us over royally. I felt lied and cheated to, and made them void the payment and take their mattress back.

It has now been about 14 months that my partner & I have been sleeping on an amazing mattress that we both love. We opted for the Full size Keetsa Plus because we were living in a tiny place at the time & had little room/​money to spare. This mattress is reasonably priced for what you get. We couldn’t be happier about choosing it, it hasn’t sagged or warped in any way thus far & we both wake up with zero back pain and feelin like we actually had a hardcore sleep. The customer service was awesome, I forget the guys name but he was genuinely very friendly and not at all your typical mattress salesman. Even the guy who loaded our mattress into our car was awesome. Definitely recommend!

Best shopping spree I decided to go on while 8 months pregnant! Great service by Chuck. Not pushy, but knowledgeable, lets you make your own decision instead of trying to sell his product. The mattress and pillows are super comfortable, especially after switching from Ikea old bed. No plastic smell, unlike Tempurpedic mattresses that will cost you double. I can still smell the tea scent after a month. Old mattress pickup service available, too! (We were promised the mattress is going to be recycled, not just dumped into landfill). And although the mattress itself is made in China, the company is local to the Bay and does some things earth-​friendlier that other manufacturers, which made me feel even better about the purchase. Greatly recommend!

When my partner and I moved in with each other, we owned two older than old mattresses. For years we sacrificed discomfort over the belief that a new bed would cost an arm and a leg… from each of us.
After several years of sacrifice we decided our backs have suffered enough, and we splurged on a new mattress from Macy’s. Long story short, this was a terrible decision. The off gassing was so toxic smelling I couldn’t sleep in the room for the first 3 weeks because it reeked of chemicals that made it impossible to sleep. In fact, we ended up sleeping on one of the old mattresses until we returned the mattress to Macy’s.
After that experience, we 1. didn’t want to loose anymore money (Macy’s charged a restocking fee of 15% of the cost of the mattress) and 2. we just wanted a good nights sleep. So we asked a few friends for a reference. Two pairs of our good friends referred us to Keetsa, so one weekend we went for a visit to the Berkeley location.
We met Robert and told him our pitiful story about the Macy’s mattress. He has years of experience with selling mattress and explained to us that off-​gassing is common, and its worst with gel top mattresses like the one we returned. Based on our needs he recommended a few options and suggested we rest on them for a minimum of 15 minutes each. I prefer a firm mattress and my partner prefers something softer. We were literally there for about an hour asking questions and trying out mattresses. We loved one of the options, and cautiously decided to go home and think it over.
Two weeks later we went back and tried the mattress again to make sure it was «the one». It still felt amazing so we made the purchase and took it home that day. It came compressed in a box that was light enough for the two if us to carry up our apartment stairs. The set up was super easy, and we have seriously been in heaven since.
Everyday we wake up so grateful and satisfied with our purchase. We LOVE our mattress! We went back for a basic bed frame also. The customer service was great — very informative and never pushy. I highly recommend Keetsa for an affordable and comfortable mattress!

Andy was fantastic! Still waiting for our mattress, but Andy has kept us informed every step of the way. Great follow up and knowledgeable of product line. Cant comment on product yet, but will give 5 stars for sales people and customer service.

This store sells very comfortable mattresses, the sales people are highly knowledgeable and not pushy, the prices are competitive, and the whole place smells nice too! I love that I could buy an eco friendly mattress without compromising on comfort, quality, or price.

Just bought their top of the line mattress tea leaf dream a month ago. We have been very impressed. I am s stomach sleeper and I have a great night sleep. Very little movement when I get in and out of bed. Eco friendly is great too.

We were able to find a mattress we seriously considered buying. However, we were scared away by their (non)warranty policy. It is absolutely ridiculous to think that someone will continue to sleep on a defective mattress until it reaches a depth of 1.5 INCHES. The recycling fee was outrageous and should be included in the upfront cost, imo– even if it makes the initial cost higher. Next time we’re in the market for a mattress we’ll check back in hopes that these policies have been changed.

The Tea Leaf Supreme mattress with topper gave us 3 good years, but it developed a significant sagging area and began to give one of us back pain (which went away with a new mattress). It seemed that sag wasn’t just because of the topper, but also the mattress itself. Also — and this is not a criticism of Keetsa — we found that memory foam had some major drawbacks — it was way to hot to sleep on in the summer and it’s also very hard to turn over on it.

I completely forgot that I had a Unilocal account. This is my only review. I guess I just spend time updating it every few years. Now it is six years later and the mattress is still going strong. Still very comfortable to sleep on with no real signs of wear, dips, etc. Looking back at my original review, it seems whiny and a bit silly. I do recall that the lack of communication was frustrating, but as time goes by, it seems more and more minor (if it was ever significant to begin with). It feels more than a little entitled and I hate how much I see that on Unilocal.In any event, I was also reminded because I was at another Keetsa recently, and had another very pleasant experience. My mom came to visit me in NY. I live in a studio apartment, with a mattress and love seat (not long enough to sleep on), so I keep an air mattress for guests (or for me, when mom visits :). I slept on the air mattress and she slept on the Keetsa. She raved about it so we visited a nearby dealer, and again, the service was great, no-​pressure, informative, friendly. Prices seemed more than fair (of course, I got one of the cheaper models, but as I say, it has held up quite well). In another five or ten years, I’ll probably raise the rating again, but I must say that I am at least a satisfied customer and have recommended their mattresses. I have nothing ironic or snarky or ‘meh’ to add.

Bought the Keetsa Plus (king) in August of 2014. My lower back pain is now so severe I’ve been using the sofa for the past several months. I’m not interested in any of their comfort layers because of their return policy (you pay a 25% fee). I regret trying to get a mattress on the cheap.

5 stars for the customer service and the mattress. We came to the location after searching for organic mattresses online. The sales man (sorry I don’t remember his name) was amazing. We went in expecting to buy the most expensive mattress because my husband loves memory foam but the sales man urged us to try all of them instead of only selling us the most expensive one. We actually ended up like the cheapest on they offer. After having the mattress for about 3 months now, we love it! It’s so comfortable. My only qualm is that the pillows suck! Don’t buy them

Just have to rave about the extraordinary customer service at Keetsa; I am beyond happy with my experience at the Berkeley store this week regarding a mattress replacement over a minor issue I had on my 5 year old tea leaf supreme (aka-​the most comfortable object in the entire universe). It was resolved swiftly thanks to Keetsa’s outstanding warranty/​return policy and I truly appreciate the wonderful customer service from manager Marchus Holmes throughout the process. I was invited to come test the new tea leaf supreme before taking it home as the design has changed slightly in recent years, and can happily report that it is somehow even MORE comfortable than our previous model! Not sure how that is even possible :) Could not resist buying a comfy Keetsa pillow as well… Thanks again Marchus and Chuck!

We are really satisfied with our mattress — Tea Leaf Supreme — and the service we received throughout the perusing /​purchasing /​delivery /​set-​up /​troubleshooting process. From A to Z, Andy and the other folks we dealt with were straightforward, easy-​going and responsive.
perusing: NO PRESSURE. lots of time and space to test-​out the mattresses any which way we wanted, but totally available to answer all our questions.
purchasing: we needed time to think about it; couldn’t decide while we were at the store. when we were ready, Andy kept it convenient and let us call in our purchase rather than come back in.
delivery and set-​up: we opted for the $ 50 delivery and set-​up. repeatedly, but not annoyingly, Andy explained to us how best to prepare our frame set-​up to accommodate the mattress and its air-​circulation needs. we did our best, but when Jeremy came to do the delivery and set-​up, he was mindful in communicating that we probably still hadn’t done enough. he was patient and generous with his advice as to how to keep stepping to get our frame in best shape for the mattress.
troubleshooting: within days of sleeping on the mattress, we could feel the very positive difference and benefit of the mattress. we were sleeping *very* well. nonetheless, we had some questions about if we’d actually gotten the mattress we’d ordered. via some email and phone correspondence over the next few weeks, Andy and his manager worked with us to figure things out in a mutually satisfactory way. I made some mistakes along the way in conveying information from my end, but they were still pleasant and patient throughout.
the combination of the post-​purchase service the Keetsa (and related) folks offered, along with the REALLY very outstanding sleep we’re now getting is what makes Keetsa, from here on out, our first stop for any future mattress shopping.
There IS a distinct smell that the mattress emits — for more than just a few days — but my partner and I agree it was nothing compared to the strong and long-​lasting smell we had on the memory-​foam mattress we’d purchased several years ago from another vendor.
We’ve now had the mattress two continuous months and that smell is a distant memory.

Bought a Convertabed love-​seat there 3 years ago for $ 750. Opened up the packing and it filled the living room with the scent of formaldehyde for days. I’m not chemically sensitive but it was nasty!
They assured me that was normal.
After a few months the cushions became very soft and unsupportive. (I only weight 155)
I recently looked around at prices on this model and found they go for $ 250-​$ 299. They didn’t even deliver it. We had to borrow a truck and pick it up ourselves.
After buying it I noticed their «No Returns» policy. Beware!

We love our Keetsa Mattress!
The store is nice, the service is good and the price is affordable. The only problem was that we had to wait 3 weeks because the mattress we wanted was sold out but definitely the wait was worthy! We went to pick it up with the car and built it easily at home. We found our mattress that it’s not too hard, not too soft, it’s just right!

While I know it will take some time for me to get to know my Keetsa, I do want to give a shout out to Chuck at the Berkeley Keetsa store.
My boyfriend and I decided we had had enough with our teeny tiny sagging IKEA mattress. We planned a day of mattress shopping and at the advice of my mother decided to stop-​in at Keetsa to see what was up.
What a great experience! My boyfriend and I have both had quite a few negative experiences with sales people judging us from the start and writing us off. Not the case at Keetsa where we were treated with respect and given the space and time we needed to make our decision. It was such a positive experience, and me and the beau decided that for us it was important to buy a product that was more eco-​friendly than what we would find at Mancini’s or Sleep Train. After laying on the beds at Keetsa for a while we decided to go ahead and purchase a mattress there. The decision felt so natural and we both are really happy with our decision.
Plus, we took our Queen mattress home in a box that fit in the backseat of my Mini Cooper convertible. Now THAT is awesome!
p. s. the store is BEAUTIFUL. very minimal. nice lighting. we were able to lay on some of the beds and just stare out the windows at the sky — very tranquil. all these details helped make for a really positive mattress shopping experience. definitely recommend!

After my update, I was contacted by Keetsa management who said that there was no reason to be suffering like I was and that toppers weren’t the answer. I was given an invitation to return and see what could be done.
Wow! Now that’s great customer service.
When we bought the bed, we also bought the extra insurance plan. We were about a month away from it being expired, so we were able to work out an exchange for an entirely different spring mattress. Not memory foam.
The insurance that covered the return took a couple weeks of faxing and emailing photos to prove that it wasn’t destroyed, and then there was a few days waiting for the delivery guys to show up.
They took out the old mattress, boxed it up like magic, brought in the new mattress and set it up.
What a great improvement. It isn’t the perfect bed; we had to do some tweaking to make it firm enough for my husband with the back problems while not killing my hips, but he was able to move back into the bedroom! This is a major accomplishment for us, especially with the dismal outcome we had resigned ourself to.
So, once again, the management and customer service at Keetsa is second to none. I would recommend getting the insurance policy, though. It’s pricey, but we were able to save ourselves being out almost $ 2,000 by buying it.
Also, don’t get hung up on the whole mystique of memory foam. Seriously, the spring mattresses at Keetsa are good, and if you just go for memory foam because everyone tells you it’s awesome, you might end up with something your really don’t like because you’ve been drinking the «memory foam is the answer to all your problems» Kool-​aid.

Up until four months ago I was still sleeping on coils. I’m slow to jump on the memory foam bandwagon, plus I don’t like change and I’m cheap as hell.
My mattress finally gave out after 9 years and I had to go searching for something new.
I searched online for a while and did some comparisons. I liked how Keetsa is semi natural and the warranty is 12 years. Very cool how the mattress comes rolled up in a box, so easy to throw in my car! I did it all by myself!
Prices are fair and the service from Charles was seamless.
I have a nasty habit of cracking my back right when I wake up in the AM, it used to snap, crackle and pop. These days my back barely cracks, Keetsa must be realigning everything!
Buyer beware, the adjustment phase is pretty painful, it took me about 3 weeks, but now I am sleeping like a baby again!
