Specialties
Hustead’s Auto Body is a premier «green» body shop and auto collision repair center. We have 3 locations (2 in Berkeley and 1 in Oakland). We’ve also won the «Best of Berkeley Award» a couple times, and we have built up a long standing brand value in the East Bay.
Certified — Our repair facility is I-Car Gold and ASE certified. We have over 20,000 square feet of clean, well maintained space to meet your needs, and we only use environmentally friendly waterborne paints. We are always focused on helping our customers get back on the road as quickly as possible.
We are proud of our large and extensive facilities, which include a full paint shop, frame alignment tools, and other state-of-the art techniques designed to make repairs seamless.
History
Established in 1948.
Hustead’s is a fixture in the Downtown Berkeley landscape. As a family-owned small business for sixty years, we are proud of our status in the community, and invite you to learn more by visiting our website!
The familiar red and white Art Deco building on Durant near Shattuck has been a fixture in the Berkeley downtown landscape. Originally built as a Lincoln-Mercury dealership in the 1940s, the building has gone through several transformations over the decades.
After the building became a towing and auto body shop in the 1960s, Hustead’s operated smoothly under a different set of family owners over the decades.
In 1989 Hustead’s was one of the only buildings in Berkeley to suffer major damage during the Loma Prieta Earthquake. In fact, the building burned to the ground and was completely rebuilt in the Art Deco style of the original building.
