I’ve dealt with 2 types of body shops: those where the repairs are paid for with insurance coverage and those where the car is restored to nominal functional shape. I have a Toyota Prius and I park it on the streets of Berkeley. I don’t really care about a dent or scratch, as long as the car gets me places. TK is the place to take it if you want a shop to get your car back into functional shape. I had a minor autobody issue that needed a fix, otherwise may have resulted in a bigger issue. I first took it to an «insurance coverage» shop that said that the whole part must be replaced for greater than $ 1k. In fact, this shop suggested that I use my own insurance coverage to cover the cost. Thankfully, I then decided to get a second opinion at TK and they fixed it exactly how I would have if I had a car lift… and didn’t charge me an arm and leg for it. Yet to be determined how well this holds up, but certainly better off trying this solution before paying $$$ to replace the whole part.

David, the owner, gave me an estimate of $ 180 to repair the bumper on my minivan, whereas elsewhere I had been told I needed to replace it for $ 1212. He said it would cost $ 180 and take 2 hours. He made good on his word, and the work looks complete. I very happy with this honest auto body shop and will come back if the need arises.

I was referred by a friend to this auto body shop and had paint job done on my bumpers in 2012. The paint color is black, however when I took back the bumper color was grey/​silver. I asked David about it and he assured me it was the original color. Last month September 2013 the bumpers were scrached again. Instead taking back to this auto shop where it is 40 miles away from where my car parked, I decided to go another auto body shop in Hayward near my place. I was told that my bumper paint color was not original to manufacture standard. I called David again to ask him about the paint code, he told me the same thing he never changed the color of paint from original manufacture standard. The new auto painting guy had multiple trips to try to match the color painted by David body shop but it was not successful. Finally I have to spend all the money again to paint all the areas of bumper. If the paint color is the manufacture standard, It could cost much less because the scratches were in very small area.
I am not happy with David at all after he did not tell me the truth about changing my car painting color. Although he is a friend of my friend, I feel I still have to say something about him. I hope he won’t do that again to other cusotmers.
BTW, I have a very nice car with excellent condition. That’s why I feel very unhappy when some auto body repair person did something not to manufacture standard and did not tell me what was changed. It is not obvious to discover it immediately. But it will come back at later time.

Man David and his wife are one of the nicest auto repair shop owners I’ve met! I had to have my car towed here and the tow truck took forever to arrive! (You know what I mean if you’ve ever had «one of those» experiences with AAA.). Anyway, by the time I got it towed it was already almost 4:30pm and they close at 5pm! I was sure I was in for a carless weekend. But David confirmed a bad starter and assured me it was a very fast fix and that they could do it that evening! And sure enough, at 630pm they called me up and said I could pick up my car! Friendly, honest, fast and reasonable prices! From now on I think I’ll take my car here for any future fixes!

I took my 1998 Subaru Forester there because I was having problems with my power steering and the owner told not to fix it and to drive it as is. What a load of crap. I was referred to this shop by my friend. I’ve since sold my Forester since it would have failed smog because the check engine light was on and it had 200,000 plus miles on it. I didn’t want to invest any more money into it. Also I took my 2000 Toyota Camry there because I had broke one of the mounting and scuffed up the passenger mirror. I wanted it replaced but the owner told me it would be $ 100 just to replace it and said to use it as is. He said just save your money I’m going to install the side view mirror my self and save money. I would not recommend not taking your cars to this shop. It’s time for me to find another mechanic and or do some the easy fixes myself.

David is both a skilled and trustworthy mechanic, quite a find.

Took car for engine ligth and timing belt. Owner David was very honest in pricing my car works. Provide all parts that they replaced. Without me asking for it. Honest auto shop.

I was referred by my friend who has been a long time customer to this service shop when I had 2 relatively deep scratch on my 2010 sedan which was pretty new. I got quotes from numerous competitors and David (the owner) came back with the lowest price and earliest completion date. I knew David would do a great job given this was a reference from one of my best friends, but after the vehicle was returned to me I couldn’t believe it. It was almost miraculous.
Absolutely the BEST in the city, and anybody who needs cheap, quick yet cooperative service TK Auto is THE place to be. They are located on San Pablo road in El Cerrito so a bit far from someone like myself who is in the SF city area, but definiately worth it.

This is the best and most patient auto shop I have ever used with reasonable price. Great job and excellent services. The owner David took extrodinary time & work in helping me to find lowered priced parts around the nation. He even advanced the payment for the parts. I am super pleased with this shop and highly recommend it.
