Computer Courage

We’ve been using Computer Courage for our small non profit for about one year. We have always had great support and service from the entire team. Adam takes great care of his customers and makes sure that they get what the need and he never oversells on anything you don’t need. I am really impressed by the quality of service at Computer Courage. We use them for everything from trouble shooting a time-​sensitive virus issue to upgrading our wifi speed, to handling software upgrades when we can’t figure it out ourselves (we are an admittedly non tech-​savvy bunch). They deal with large and small problems. Computer Courage uses an online ticketing system which we find to be very helpful for managing our requests in a timely way. You really get the sense that these are good people who care deeply about their customers and the quality of their work. Highly recommend!

If you’re like me, someone who is running a small business, who absolutely goes cold with fear when her/​his computer goes nuts, don’t hesitate for a nano-​second to call Computer Courage. They’re amazing! I’m usually next to tears when I call, panicked it is the end of my work/​life/​professional existence as I know it… and then comes Ray (or one of the skilled techs) who not only solves the problem (s), but also listens to how I use my computer and makes suggestions about how to make everything run more smoothly. I’ve been a fan of theirs since Adam began the business… and as the years keep rolling on, Computer Courage is still a name that means the highest quality service. I’m not a person who usually writes reviews, but I’m such a fan I really thought the world should know how great CC is.

I dropped an external hard drive with 7,000+ files and the consequence of my clumsiness was an inaccessible drive and corrupted data. The information was critical to my work and I would have been lost without it. I contacted a number of data recovery specialists and the recovery price ranged from $ 2,700 — $ 6,000 due to the damage and volume. Now I don’t know about the rest of you, but I don’t have that kind of money sitting around and I was REALLY worried.
I found Computer Courage here on Unilocal and really liked what I read when I looked at the profile. A professional who decided a few years ago to walk away from the big corporate paychecks to start his own tech business. His website reflected that he understands many people don’t have the financial flexibility to pay for tech service, data recovery, or to have new computers built as custom jobs and listed a number of items he would be willing to barter for if someone needed his help, but didn’t have any money. I loved the business model, the respect for his customers, and his openness, so I reached out and asked him if he could recover my lost/​corrupt data.
We talked for quite a while as I explained what had happened and he asked a lot of questions to get a feel for the project. He told me he believed he could recover the data and, if he was wrong, there would be no charge regardless of the time he may need to invest on my behalf.
I dropped off the hard drive and he immediately began working on the project. After 15 minutes, he said he would need a lot more time to work on the data and would call me around noon the next day with an update. Good to his word, he called me shortly past noon with an update and it was wonderful news! He was going to need the rest of that day and part of the next, but he was VERY confident he could recover at least 80% of the damaged data.
When I arrived around 2:30 the next day (roughly 48 hours after our initial meeting), he gave me the good news that he had successfully recovered 100% of the data and showed me all of the recovered files to prove his success.
I WAS ECSATIC!!!
The completed job, with all of the time and energy invested, cost me only $ 150 (Yes, you read that right, One Hundred Fifty Dollars!). He achieved what the big corporations wanted to charge me $ 2,700 — $ 6,000 to accomplish. And, as if that wasn’t enough, he also proved to be a very personable fellow and a fun conversationalist.
If you’re in the market for a custom computer, need to fix your computer or laptop, or have a damaged drive with lost data, then STOP calling the big corporations and get in touch with Computer Courage!

We are sure happy with the work Computer Courage did for us. We are a small business with big computer issues and they got down to business solving our problems. On the subject of changes to their business model disappointing a former client: We went through growing pains many times in our 35 year existence and I can understand the necessity of losing some customers because our business practices needed to evolve.
Our previous IT solution company oversold us on hardware, support contracts, unnecessary software, etc. We ended up with enough gear to host a «small business» of 100+ employees and client machines. There’s 15 of us. Thing is, the other group failed to configure the virtual servers properly, wasting all the expensive hardware horsepower. The other group sold us proprietary Cisco routers and access points that cannot be reconfigured or upgraded without a licensed reseller. When something finally failed (as all things computer do), the urgent support call would be answered «sometime next week» by the other guys. Not sure how that can be considered acceptable when our on-​site database and ALL BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS have stopped!
This is when we called Computer Courage, got a great vibe, and discussed changing IT support providers. They found and fixed incorrectly configured things, and are working with our other IT projects. We even have an IT guy on staff who just needed help weeding out the other guys’ needless complexity, and getting some uninterrupted help setting it all up for smooth sailing. Cost seemed very reasonable. Well-​deserved 5 stars.

Pooperdoopers… CC is so popular they do not allow drop-​offs anymore. They only have housecalls, which begin at $ 100. I cannot afford that, so I have to look elsewhere. Too bad… only the wealthy can afford their stellar service, now.

I’m so glad to see all these wonderful reviews of CC here, because I feel very much the same way. The first time, probably 4 years ago now, I used them when my ancient laptop had died and I needed them to see what they could salvage from it and put on to my new one. Done in a day. Boom! No fuss, no muss. The next time was more serious – despite what I thought was the best antivirus program on the market, a nasty thing got in and shut down my whole system. They were pleasant, efficient, reassuring, knew what the culprit was (in other words, up-​to-​date with what was happening) and the next day, my computer was back, with a much better antivirus and anti-​malware system installed upon their recommendation. Three years ago, no problem since. Then this week, after quite a few problems with my system, I thought my hard disk had crashed, so I brought it in. To my pleasure I found that they now do home visits, and I had an appointment two days later. Ray the tech was super knowledgeable, quick, personable, set up everything up on my new desktop in less than three hours, and answered all my questions. It is such a pleasure dealing with tech people who are normal and down-​to-​earth (not all impressed with their own geekiness), customer-​oriented (rather than caught up in their own bureaucratic system that you somehow have to figure your way through first to even try to get a question answered, no less real help), and local (not outsourced to some other country). I cannot recommend them highly enough and I have in fact recommended them a bazillion times to friends and colleagues. Given the necessity of using these tools in modern life to get even basic things done in one’s life or business, along with the complete ridiculousness of expecting the majority of us to have the technical fluency or knowledge base to problem-​shoot this stuff, I agree with Tracy G: Computer Courage is my IT department.

Like just about everyone, I found CC to be fantastic! Ray Sims was my technician, and he was smart, creative, easygoing (I was totally stressed when I got there b/​c I had lost my emails & he calmed me down) & thoroughly professional. We have been working with Computer Courage for nearly 3 years now. We have always found them to be professional, personable, and efficient. Very easy to recommend. In fact, it turns out we share several of the same clients – and each of them also raves about Computer Courage.
Xfinity recently sent us a new modem. Bitchen. It’s faster, has a built-​in router with a strong WiFi signal, and even looks purrty, standing all upright and proud with it’s «oh yeah we’re here in all our glory, but not so bright as to being annoying flashing lights.» Trouble is it was causing conflicts with our home network.
Everyone I spoke with explained how it wasn’t their problem. Xfinity said they’re only responsible for providing a working modem and it was so piss off. (Actually, that same outsourced dude in the Philippines upsold me an $ 80 second level support service, which was promptly refunded when the technician in the States confirmed that it did not apply to what I needed). Another component vendor whose device could not connect to the Internet remoted in, but got stuck with the modem settings and my work VPN requirements. My work sent me endless emails of gobbly gook opining about many things but having actual solutions for none.
If only I knew a good, professional, affordable, reliable IT company I could just call. Days of wasted time go by. And then, as an afterthought my bonehead self realized I did know one. I emailed them at 12:22. Their senior network guy was here at our house at 2:56. He changed and resolved our various network settings in less than 10 minutes. Seriously. Then spent another 15 – 20 minutes troubleshooting a more complicated setting and finding a creative resolution.
I couldn’t be happier or more impressed. I will call Computer Courage again, both personally and professionally, in a hopped-​up-​on-​late-​afternoon-​cappucino heartbeat!

The Computer Courage people have helped us, both at our house and at the store, in dealing with hardware and software problems, in updating our network, and in setting up other systems.
They are very easy to deal with and very knowledgeable. They communicate well, which is much appreciated in dealing with technical issues.

I am a restaurant consultant and needed some IT work done for the restaurant I am working for. So glad I called them. They were polite, punctual, knowledgeable, professional and efficient.

My mac started having issues with the hard-​drive and I called to get a quote. They were extremely helpful and knew what the problem was right away. I took it in and it was fixed the next day! They didnt charge very much either and I was extremely happy. Will definitely use them again if my computer gets sick.

Computer Courage repaired my Sony Vaio laptop in just a couple of days! They applied the diagnostic to the repair. They diagnosed the problems, and told me my options. The sound card was bad, but would require replacement of the mother board (not worth it.) So they ordered me a reasonably priced analog audio adapter, and now I have sound again. They also repaired the on/​off switch. They also spent over 25 minutes with me, installing the audio device and ensuring that the sound worked through the new device. They were friendly, prompt and an overall excellent service. Easy to get to and also they have a parking lot.

They fixed a problem other shops said was impossible. The turnaround time was great and they were good at explaining what the problems were.
They also said that any repair for the next two weeks would be free. It doesn’t get better than that.

Finding someone to help you fix your computer is like the Internet-​era equivalent of having to hire a plumber from out of the phone book.
My father (a senior citizen) had the misfortune of getting his laptop infected with a virus. I didn’t have the skills to fix it myself so I took it to Computer Courage. They cleaned it up, installed anti-​virus software, and gave me guidelines on maintenance. They’re honest, professional, and understanding.
Their prices are reasonable, they work quickly, and they can present you with different options.
