History

Established in 1990.

Running a car repair business is a dirty thing. We use a lot of chemicals, paints, metals, and other materials to fix cars. This is truly an ‘industrial’ workplace. Unfortunately in the past a lot of shops did not properly handle or dispose of the waste byproducts of their work. We do.

A ‘Green’ Repair

We take our responsibility to the environment very seriously. Living in California we see the natural beauty of the environment all around us while at the same time we deal everyday with harmful chemicals and pollutants.

We adhere to all the EPA and OSHA guidelines for the proper handling and disposal of all chemicals and materials. We use the latest in paint filtration and evacuation to ensure our coworkers, neighbors, and surrounding environs are safe from any of the potentially harmful byproducts of our labors.

I have been in the auto body business for over 30 years. I have been less than satisfied with the integrity of this industry. I have been blessed with coming in contact with individuals that have managed to maintain their integrity while producing a profit.

My goal is to provide a service that the people that Love and Respect me would be proud of.

In this age of corporate owned body shops what used to be be a mostly family owned industry has become a profit first customer second mind set.

I still believe honer, integrity can prevail.

Having worked for the corporate side of this industry I know that their goal is maximize profit based on maximizing volume and the consumer is lost in the equation.

Part of or mission statement is that taking care of the costumers best interests will eventually benefit Berkeley Auto Body.

The crew at Berkeley Auto Body are hands down one of the best body shops I’ve dealt with. I have an awesome newish Mustang that is an unfortunate target of getting driven into while it is parked, regardless of where it is parked. These guys have fixed it at least 3 of the 8 times since I have owned it and the quality of workmanship is by far, better than any other shop I’ve dealt with. Each time I think, that’s it, I’m going to get something else but when I get the car back it looks so good I fall in love with it again! They detail it before you get it back!
I’ve dealt with both of the guys in the office but with the most recent incident I dealt with Sean. Sean is kind of a bad ass looking dude in a good way and his voice is equally pretty darned (don’t mess with this guy). This is however not the type of guy that he is. During the recent incident I was dealing with a pretty difficult claim organization and getting incorrect estimates, no response (see review of Sedwick claims management) and had become extremely frustrated. When I finally brought the car in to Berkeley Auto Body I asked Sean «how good are you at being an ass?» Sean replied, well, you can ask my ex wife! I replied, good, you’re going to need that quality when dealing with this claim group!
The car was a few days late waiting on parts but Sean was successful getting the additional funds needed for the repair and was nothing but polite and professional each time I spoke with him.

Excellent service, reasonable pricing and skillful work. This is the shop to visit when you need body work done. They will give you a discount price if you pay cash. Work is done in a timely manner. I could not even tell where the damage was after the job was completed. And when I needed a ride from BART and a ride to chase to get cash, they were there to give me a lift. A great family owned auto body shop!

Brought my Audi A6 in last month for major body damage and was astounded by the results. Robert kept in close contact with me throughout the process. As a woman, going into a body shop can be a little intimidating. I didn’t feel that at all here. So thankful I found them!

Someone smashed into the back end of my parked car in the Berkeley Hills – it didn’t look that bad, but I suspected it was worse than I could see. Luckily, the driver did the right thing and left their information. When the insurance company gave me trouble, Robert took over and negotiated all of the issues directly with the insurer, but always keeping me in the loop. As soon as the insurance approved the repairs, Berkeley Auto Body zoomed into action, and I had my car (whose damage was, as predicted, more extensive than was visible) in a few days.
Robert was communicative, honest, and extremely helpful through some painful moments with the other driver’s insurer. The back end of my car looks like new, and they even cleaned vacuumed the trunk for me.
If ever I’m unfortunate enough to need auto body repair, I’ll definitely come back.

I will never go back here. I chose Berkeley Auto Body because my insurance agent told me it was closest to me. Big mistake. It took over 4 weeks to fix a fender bender on my rear bumper. The staff was really bad at calling me back, even when I asked them to. When I was able to get answers, I heard, «It’s going to be another week,» about 3 times. And to top it all off, when I got my car back, one of the cables to my subwoofers had been ripped in half and gingerly looped around a seatbelt — now I have to go get my subwoofers repaired.
To sum it up:

So I got into a Hit and run accident (driver got away), and it ruined my front number and passenger fender so badly I couldn’t drive it. So my buddy recommend this place because of the quality service, But I didn’t have enough for the deductible. No problem, they gave me a huge discount and my insurance of course covered the rest. Out of the whole ordeal, this Auto Body shop was the Angel. I am a truly satisfied costumer and they even took the swirls off all around the black glossy car ! SO HAPPY!!!

These guys are amazing and super nice! The left side of my front bumper of my old Corolla 98′ had an unfortunate meeting with a concrete pole, and I was just looking for a very simple low cost fix to ensure safety. They were able to just put a nail into the bumper for free, so that it wouldn’t be dangling off unsecure. If I ever need to repair another car in the future, I’d definitely come back :)

My car was in an accident and nearly totaled – brand new (200 miles on it) car. The appraisal was so close that the insurance company had to reappraise. Still the quote was too close to the total mark.
BAB «redid» their quote with after-​market parts, even when I had specifically told them NOT to. My insurance company caught it, and because they are fabulous to work with (read their reviews-​Amica is the name of the insurance company) they said they were totaling it.
The car has been there for 5 weeks – no joking! If I find out I have parking tickets I will be livid – after reading these bad reviews it looks like I’m lucky that they didn’t fix it.

I scraped my car against the garage door — what’s up with the tiny garages, Emeryville? I’m not in Texas anymore.
The scrape was very minor but very obvious. So I took my car to Berkeley Auto Body based on Unilocal reviews. They wiped it clean with some kind of liquid and they didn’t even charge me anything.
Really nice, honest and cool people. I will come here again, if necessary, based on my experience. I have every confidence they will be upfront and transparent with more major repairs.

These guys were amazing, especially the manager, Bob. They made all the arrangements with the insurance company and rental place so I just had to drop off and pick up my car and the rental – so easy. They did a great job on my bumper – looks brand new, washed it and finished exactly when I asked them to. They even touched up some unrelated scratches for free. The most amazing part was that the rental car company did some unscrupulous things and Bob personally called them immediately and convinced them to reverse charges I had reluctantly agreed to and throw in free gas! That was totally above and beyond his responsibility and seemed so unlikely, yet he did it just to give me superlative service. I will definitely choose them for future auto body repairs!

I am changing my review for several reasons. For one, I finally did get my car back and the shop had done a good job. Too, State Farm is largely to blame for the very slow progress in repairing the car. While State Farm says that their client can use any shop, not only those from their select list, if one chooses to do that, there is a major holdup. The adjustor doesn’t get around to evaluating the damage for days and the car just sits in the shop. What further irked me was that State Farm originally told me Berkeley Auto Body was on their select list; soon afterwards another agent said it was not. So miscommunication exists at State Farm as well as at the Auto Body shop.
Also, the remodeling going on at the Auto Body shop is very noisy and probably drives the front office folks crazy. I think Robert means well and tried his best; however, between the noise, State Farm’s very slow progress, and the shop having written down my phone number with one digit wrong, things fell apart. At the end of this ordeal, Robert truly did try to rectify the situation by offering me a free detailing, wax, and so on in a month.
While I might not rush back here, I wouldn’t necessarily steer other people away.

brought in my partner’s 2013 VW Golf TDI that had minor front bumper damage from curb wars wounds which I had inflicted (scrape marks on bottom lip & damaged undershield). I had estimates from 4 other shops (Cook’s, Bay Bridge, 101, Allied) .some of them said I should replace the whole bumper. Robert Nisperos at Berkeley said they could easily repair it The highest bid for repair was at 101 AutoBody in Albany (which I had used in the past). Since I was willing to pay cash, Robert gave me the most attractive price. (50% to 66% lower than any other shop) The work was done on time (2 days) & it looks like new.

After an accident I was referred to have my car taken care of at Berkeley Auto Body and the people there were really nice and helpful. I felt confident that the car would be well taken care of.
They had car for 12 days and needed to repair the drivers door after I had been T-​boned. The damage was not horrible, thankfully. The door would not open and to look at it, it was mostly cosmetic damage. When I picked up my car it had been washed and vacuumed which was great! But when I drove on the highway and saw sky out of the top of my door, I was not very excited. I took the car back and they said they could bend the top of the door back if I could «hang out around the area for 4 hours». That was not an option in my day so I said I would bring it back the next day and pack my bike so I could ride home (too much work at the shop and not enough staff to offer a ride home). So that’s what I did.
5 hours later I had a friend drop me off since they had yet to call and let me know it was ready. No one came to talk to me about the door or what they had done with it. They gave me my key and I left. Now the door works properly (why would they not look at the whole door to begin with when the bottom was damaged?) but now it makes terrible noises when I turn right. I don’t know what else is wrong with it but I certainly don’t want to go back to them to figure it out!
2 weeks later I got a parking ticket in the mail from when my car was at their shop. I called to let them know and they said they’d pay it right away. Great! Until they didn’t. Now I’ve gotten a 2nd notice that the ticket has not been paid and has doubled in price. I called today to let them know… again.
They didn’t have the time to take care of my car the first time they had it for 12 days and inconvenienced me again for another day and it still goes on. What I thought was going to turn out to be a great experience has certainly left a very bitter taste in my mouth for the quality, care and customer service they provided me.

I initially went here because I saw they had decent reviews. It was one of the worst experiences I have ever had:
Took my car in to be repaired after someone rear-​ended the back it. Berkeley Auto Body said it’d be done in 2 weeks. When the day came I drove my rental all the way over to pick my car up, turns out it wasn’t ready and wouldn’t be for another week. I didn’t even receive a phone call to let me know. This happened yet again the next week (at least they called to tell me this time) meaning I waited a little over a month for them to fix some dents on my car.
I stood in their office as I waited to finally pick up my car and was talking to the man who had helped me thus far. I could see my car parked outside and before I went out to drive it home the man says «oops, I forgot something, I’ll be right back.» I see him walk out to my car and put something in his pocket. Probably just some paperwork he forgot, I told myself. A few weeks later I get in the mail a notice saying I haven’t paid a parking ticket. It was dated from when my car was in their care with their address as well. That’s what the man helping me wanted to conceal from me when he went out to my car– they parked my car in a red zone and got fined. Instead of telling me, they hid it and the fine went up since I didn’t pay it on time.
Cherry on the cake: my car still doesn’t function properly. My rear window will not roll down and the lock doesn’t work which is part of the reason I initially took it there. The only reason I haven’t gone back in person to complain is because I moved out of town and just wanted to be done with them.
Please save yourself a similar hassle and find another repair shop nearby.

I feel so dang lucky to have found these guys. I found them in an unfortunate event where I had to leave my mechanic of 5 years. But alas, I couldn’t be happier now that I’ve found these guys! They are friendly, HONEST, affordable (as much as mechanics can be), and just fair all around. I gave them another review months ago and just had to post again because they keep impressing me. Thanks to them, my lil yellow beetle will keep on keeping on.

What a waste of my time. I talked to a gentleman on the phone and asked how much it would cost to touch up 3 – 4 half-​inch scratches. He told me if I brought the paint that he would help me do it for free. I took his offer and spent $ 40 on the paint. I showed up and they basically gave me a sales pitch on how I should have it done professionally and if I paid in cash, it would only be $ 900.

Long story short, my car was in an accident and I couldn’t take it home to a car place that I was familiar with. The Honda dealership recommended Berkeley Auto Body and I couldn’t have been more happy to go with their recommendation.
All of the staff members at Berkeley Auto Body were super friendly, laid-​back, and professional. They did a great job with getting the car to look new again. And to top it off, they helped with part of the deductible for my insurance and a rental car to ensure that I could get home seeing as I don’t live in Berkeley.
I would recommend them to anyone in the area!

Went in for some cosmetic damage to my car and Justin took care of it in about two seconds! Magic! They didn’t even charge me anything at all. He even recommended a car wash place in the neighborhood since I’m new to the area. It’s a great indication of the service as a whole.
I hope my car stays out of trouble but if it does have any real issues I know I’m gonna bring it here because they are so helpful and great and I want to give them ALL THE BUSINESS. Thanks again Justin!

I came in to get some front parts replaced (splash shield, fender liner, nothing much visible, not painted or otherwise expensive).
Was asking for a quote. Guy looked at my car but missed to detect some of the things that were actually missing (I cut them loose after a minor accident). Still gave me a number of what the repair would cost.
I got the matching parts, after some research on the web, from amazon and ebay and did the work myself (aprox. 1 hour and I know nothing about cars or car parts –while he said it would take the staff 2.75 hours) for 22% of the price he asked for.
I saved over $ 300 by not going here. Nothing more to say. Not coming «back».
