History

Established in 1992.

Our roots trace back to a coffeehouse in a little town called Mammoth Ca. in 1992. You can find a handful of other Looney Beans out there now, all independently owned, and every one surrounded by amazing outdoor playgrounds. Looney Bean Bend has been fueling the athletic needs of Bend since the spring of 2010.

Business Owner

Sarah and Cory moved to Bend in 2012 and were fortunate enough to purchase this amazing coffeehouse in November 2014. We came here to pursue the things we love most: biking, skiing, paddling, hiking, and of course coffee! We’re lucky to have Brent roast right here in town for us every week. He began roasting in Mammoth in 1998, and he takes coffee quality very seriously! You’ll know it when you taste it.

So delicious and courteous tucked away on the river. Need I say more Def a daily go to in the am! I had an orange cinnamon roll which was light and decked with a fresh marmalade, also a almond croissant which was filled with almond paste my fav. Backyard is good for kids and pets right on the river. We were pleased beyond compare!

Every time I visit Bend this is the first place I go. The killer bee is a spicy treat. It is a honey cinnamon latte with cayenne. Looney bean has a great atmosphere in and outside. Nice people and calming river view.

Just visiting from Seattle… And found this great place! There is an amazing backyard view and space for dogs. Poo bags and water available. The barista was very nice and the guests were respectful of space in a community-​type environment. Loved it!

This spot is by far the best coffee shop for its patio, Wi-​Fi and River setting. The coffee is good but the pastries are so so but overall I have come here every day for the last five days and find it to be the most common coffee shop in tow.

Not true ! I could see a cup with my name on it on the counter. After asking for service 3 times ! I left ! I am convinced it’ because of my Native American red skin color !! I, as well as millions of others are experts at the receiving end of racism !! Can’t fool us…

Oh, I loved everything about this coffee shop. The smell, the atmosphere, the staff, the coffee it’s all so good. I love the white mocha! So. Much. Yum. Definitely make it a point to stop by.

Love love love this joint! So many reasons to fall in love with this place. First off — the coffee. I dig it. My favorite drink is the «Dirty Hippie» which is chai with a shot (s?) of espresso. Never had a bad cup of joe here. Now let’s talk about the location — in the heart of downtown with a cute little patio out front compete with tables and chairs. Comfy couch seating inside when you just want to cuddle up with your cup of coffee. And then go out back to the giant yard any Bendite would envy that includes an awesome view of mirror pond. Since it is right over the fence and all. The fence that makes it safe to bring your kids if you want, by the way. The yard is stocked with yard games so after your second cup of joe you can release that extra pep in your step ;) I could hang out here all day. Staff is always super cool too.

Out of all the Looney Bean locations this is by far my favorite! Such a cute and relaxing atmosphere and the drinks are made perfectly every time. All of their pastries were delicious too. I can’t wait to come back to Looney Bean Bend!

Loved this place! It’s so cute and very homie. The iced Mocha was the best by far compared to other coffee shops. It was very sweet and had a lot of chocolate. I also had their ham and cheese croissant, it was warm, crunchy and had a lot of taste.
The staff was very friendly and fast. The cashier asked for my name and asked for the spelling. It made me feel very welcomed unlike most places. It seemed like there was a lot of regulars. I would say the only downside was that the entry was was very small. There was a lot of people trying to order but no where to stand.
After my family and I got our breakfast and drinks we sat outside by the lawn. It was very relaxing and cool with a very nice view of the ocean.
I’m excited to come back again.

Went for a run and passed by Looney Bean Bend, so I stopped by later in the evening for a drink before dinner. I think I had the Bee’s Knees? It had honey and cinnamon in coffee. The flavors were… not my thing. The drink was incredibly sweet and creamy, but I’m not sure what I expected. I think drink-​wise it was a miss on my part, should have just stuck with an espresso.
Otherwise, this place is super cute. The staff is really kind and seems laid back while working hard. The back lawn is amazingly relaxing on a beautiful day! It was gorgeous out and felt great to just lounge with a cold drink so that was definitely a plus.

Coffee itself was not that great, but staff was friendly and they have a nice outside area to sit in back by the river. Not a bad option if you are looking to hang out for a while and sober up after beer tasting or something, I guess. But if you want quality coffee, it’s not your place.

You absolutely have to go to this Café if you are in bend or even passing through.
The Barsitas are the nicest I’ve encountered, every time. The coffee is fantastic, the building has a wonderful setting and atmosphere that enriches the experience.
Try the Velvet Elvis if you don’t know what to get, you won’t regret it.
Amazing back yard on the banks of the Deschutes. I with I could rate it 6⁄5.

When we moved to Bend last year, we knew 7 people (family). We began coming to Looney Bean Bend and were immediately not only welcomed to Bend, but to a group of awesome people who quickly became friends. The backyard is so nice to sit in the sun & enjoy the beauty of Mirror Pond. The best part? The drinks are quality and made by people who CARES. Support local, enjoy the best, & soak up the great topics of conversation all around!

If you want a cute coffee shop with a nice view in the back then this is it. The coffee shop itself is not that spacious, but the backyard has plenty of space to sit and chat with friends or to just sit and catch the sights.
We came to Bend when the colors of leaves were changing so Bend was so gorgeous.
