Crow’s Feet Commons

Tried to order a cappuccino with nonfat or lowfat milk. Was told by guy behind the counter that they only had almond or hemp milk. I ask if they have any dairy milk, he says no, as he was attempting ignore me. I waited for him to take my order but he just kept walking into the back room. Continuing to wait for him, he pops out and asks the girl behind me if she wants a refill. Greeeat. Anyways finally another woman comes out of the back and i decide on an americano. I am waiting for my order when the girl that got the refill ask him for milk to add to hers, and he hands her whole DAIRY milk. Ugh. I get my coffee and he asks me if I want cream, I ask if it cream or half and half. He says they are the sane thing. Ummmm if this a coffee place or just some total snobfest with dirty, careless, hipsters as baristas??? Got my americano, tasted like water, attempted to drink until i realized my coffee cup was not washed and had leftover grinds caked to cup. Disgusting. Will never frequent again, not friendly or tasty.

Crow’s Feet Commons is an awesome locals hangout to see and be seen right on the edge of downtown and Drake Park. This excellent coffee shop serves up coffees, teas, a selection of kombuchas and beers on tap as well as local favorites such as the Ocean Roll from Sparrow, and some delicious breakfast and lunch sandos. My personal favorite caffeinated drink is a chai latte with hemp milk. Crow’s Feet does a mean house chai — possible one of the best in town — but be prepared to wait 7 minutes for it to brew.
I LOVE the space, the outdoor tables and the views, as well as all the awesome local products and t-​shirts they sell. There are often bands playing on weekends, and the space serves as a meeting space for group runs, outdoor and social activities.
I will say, I REALLY wish this was a better place to work. The wifi is inconsistent throughout the building, I’ve had wifi work on my PC, but not my Mac, and have had some staff be a little indifferent on the service level. Also, all of their beers are $ 6. Unless it’s a specialty beer, prices should be at $ 5 or less. If these few items were better, Crow’s Feet would be a 5 star coffee shop all the way!

Great vibe, killer view, solid coffee and a fun list of beer. Last time I came they had their bike shop in here as well. They’ve since moved it next door and added a bunch more inside places to hangout.
The only thing that was missing is the snow on the ground so we could light up the fireplace. Good folks and very knowledgable about the beers. Had a Belgian farmhouse beer that might be one of the best I’ve had.

I love the new remodel, making the space truly inviting as well as socially relaxing. This combined with the new spot for the bike shop, and I must say I have found one of my new hangouts. The bike shop has an awesome Wrencher, clean open space, and a staff that will get on It right away. Scrap the ancient «service schedule». So if you want something done well and Now, this is the spot.
Bring your problems, have a beer, and leave with a smile.

On the Deschutes, next to Drake Park, chill music, right downtown, and a calming artisan basalt block patio space. Impressive beer selection. Give this place a try. This is the place to enjoy a late afternoon beer or coffee. Ride your bike!

A verbatim clone of its long lost identical twin in Denver — the Denver Bicycle Café. A hipster coffee shop that repairs bikes and has a legit craft beer selection. And the selection here was dope with some Upright and De Garde stuff I saw nowhere else in Oregon. Bottles to go of Ale Apothecary and Upright Special Herbs were somewhat pricey $ 18 – 25 per 750; but I should have bought some to go as I never found them for sale again. Grrrr. Quiet, study time ambiance is also identical to Denver Bicycle Café. I have a feeling these are owned by the same person… Great location right on the «riverwalk» of sorts and adjacent to the Farmers Market when in season. Can throw a large rock into the window of Bend Brewing from here. Easy to stop in here while walking around the main Bend shopping area.

I’ve been there several times because I like stumptown coffee, but every single time (4x) I go in I leave in a bad mood because my service is terrible and feel condescended by the barista. Hope they work out their kinks. I gave three instead of their one star service. Luckily there are better local joints to frequent.

A big thanks to the team at Crow’s Feet. I needed to swap my rear cassette off a temporary wheel onto my new, warrantied wheel. Crow’s Feet not only did this for me, but gave my bike a solid review. They helped with transferring my tube and tire to my new wheel, adjusted my new rear shifting cables, and changed my cadence sensor battery. Definitely a lot more than I could have asked for by just walking in.

Love this place! Great coffee drinks and a nice place to sit outback on the river and have an ice cold draft beer!
It’s also a terrific place to listen to music whether live or just the great music selection they play.
This is another one if those classic Bend, Oregon places that the locals love!!!

Great view, great food, great beverages.

This is Bend, through and through.
It is bike shop, a bar, a ski shop, and coffee house.
It has a chill atmosphere with fireplace and tv. Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor.
As for beverages, they carry a couple of ciders, at least eight beers on tap, coffee drinks, and wine! Basically all set for whatever your need is before your bike or ski excursion… Or if you’re me, your shopping excursion!
The barista/​bartender/​bike guru was friendly and willing to let me try out the ciders before purchase.
PLUS they provide beautiful views if mountains and water (a river, I think).
They provide wifi, just ask for the password!

If you are in Bend I would encourage you to stop by and have a coffee or brew or just a browse at Crow’s Feet Commons. This place has great snacks, perfect pints and genuine espresso.
The location by the river is beautiful and the views from one of the tables is best in town.
Also it’s a great opportunity to check out the top of the line splitboards, skis, boots and bicycles.
This place has it all but what really makes Crow’s Feet Commons awesome is the staff and owner. Good people to the core. Have questions? Ask. You will get an honest, straight, real answer. Great customer service and true commitment their product.

Seriously where do you start? The beer? The bikes? The stumptown coffee? The baked goods from sparrow? The gear. The view? The live music? This place is my wet dream. I come in several times a day depending on if I want coffee or food or if I’m in a bike perv or beer mode. Fantastic place to have a cup o’ whatever and look at the river.

I was super-​stoked when I stumbled across Crow’s Feet during my recent trip to Bend. I lived there about 10 years ago, when the bike culture was still more mountain (Kona’s everywhere) and less commuter. For a long time I’ve been wishing Olympia had a coffee/​beer/​food/​bike place, and seeing this in a smaller city was so exciting, though I didn’t feel like any of the employees shared my enthusiasm.
I’m sure I was acting like a manic version of my nerdy bike self, but come on — allegedly this place is pretty cool! The employees didn’t seem to share my enthusiasm, though, despite the fact that we purchased several things.
When I commented on how much I liked the shop to the person who rang us up, he said «it’s pretty much the only place like this anywhere.» Really? How about Mojo Bicycle Café in SF? Velo Cult in PDX? Rapha in any major city ever? The legendary Kinfolk Lounge in Tokyo? There’s even Powerhouse Pub in Idaho (home of the much-​loved Idaho stop)? I think it’s a bit pretentious to say you invented the bike shop /​café hybrid, but that was exactly the feeling I got there.
They carry a lot of great urban-​focused products, including the new Giro women’s line that I’ve been lusting after online. Their odds & ends were reasonably priced. I can’t comment on the coffee or food as we’d eaten right before discovering it, but I will say that when people come in to your shop and they’re excited to be there, it would be nice if the staff would reciprocate. Maybe they aren’t that kind of customer service team — the hyper, Starbucks-​esque corporate robots. And that’s fine. But you can still seem somewhat enthused, or you run the risk of being just another snobby bike shop that turns people off from cycling.

We grabbed a pint here just in time for the tail end of happy hour. Good beer selection. The view from the outdoor seating was lovely. We really enjoyed having a drink in the afternoon sun and watching the river. Staff were friendly.

Super coffee shop and outdoor store with delicious coffee and tasty naked goods. Right along Drake Park along Mirror Pond. Get a latte and take a stroll!

For those of you who are Portlandia fans, think about the book store. And the «customer is never right» attitude. We experienced that here — and while it cost us nothing, may have been our funniest experience in Oregon.
Here is how it went (note that I stepped into the bathroom at the start of this:
Barista: Welcome to Crow’s Feet, how may I help you?
Wife: My husband would like a Redeye please.
Barista: What is a Red Eye?
Wife: It is coffee with shots of espresso dropped into it.
Barista: We don’t make that drink here.
Wife: Why is that?
Barista: Because we don’t make drip coffee.
(Note: They’ve got every device known to humanity back there with the barista. So running water over beans in any number of ways (french press, V60, Chemex) was available to her).
I return.
Wife: They can’t make your drink. Because they don’t make drip coffee.
Me: That’s fine sweetie. I will have whatever you are drinking.
Wife: May I have a skinny caramel latte please.
Barista: No. We don’t have caramel syrups. That would ruin the coffee. We do however have vanilla and hazelnut extracts that you could use.
Wife; Hmmm. OK. Could I have a skinny hazelnut latte please.
Barista: No. We don’t carry skim milk.
Wife: (Looks to me) I think we had better leave. They don’t seem to have anything to make the coffee we want.
Me: Fine with me.
Barista: Not everyone wants to drink coffee the way we make it. It is important to us that you learn to drink it «our way».
Me: Great, have a great day!
So there are two MAJOR rubs here. 1. She could have easily made my Redeye. No reason whatsoever she couldn’t. She could have made a 2% Hazelnut Latte for my wife (I saw the 2% carton). She could have politely stated that they could make that, but not my wife’s choice. 2. For the record, there are at LEAST three other high quality coffee shops within two blocks of Crow’s Feet (Lone Pine, Thump, and Looney Bean). So while drinking it «their way» is critical, understand that it is still «my money» that Crow’s Feet should be seeking out.
As a point of reference, this happened on Labor Day morning around 8am. We went to Thump — which had a long line — and we had it «our way».

Twisted bike and ski shop that sells coffee, right? Everyone makes note of this in their Unilocal reviews, remarking how this is a bit unusual for a business model but it works because these elements are all of a piece, all of a common lifestyle. You live in Bend, or maybe you visit Bend, and you cross country ski or mountain bike, which are big Bendy things to do, and as luck would have it, members of this demographic also love some coffee. The place projects a coherent Weltanschauung that way, making it easy to dwell there.
But most reviewers miss the BEER. This place has a respectable number of taps – respectable for a pub let alone a bike shop. And this is Bend, Oregon, so they’re interesting local beers. And finally, this also is a demographic dead ringer for the skier/​cyclist thing – maybe more so than the coffee. And the place is right on Mirror Pond next to Drake Park. And in that regard it is perhaps just a smidgeon ‘touristy’. But hell, I didn’t care. I’m from Portland, so I was a tourist! Getting a pint at a bike shop is, well shit, it’s cool.

The name was enough to make me want to check this place out. I have crow’s feet of my own and I love the concept of commons in the context of «all people are welcome here.»
Plus I wanted to see what the new tenant had done to the interior of this old historic house when they turned it into Crows Feet Commons. Part bike and ski repair shop and part coffee and other beverage shop, the odd combination of functions invited investigation.
The bottom line for me: one visit was enough. My Unilocal opinion as to why follows.
AOK though and worth a visit by curious Yeeps and other Peeps to see if if Crow’s Feet Commons works for you. If you fit the demographic here, which seems to skew to younger, biker, skier population, you might find a new favorite place which would be a good thing for the nice people who own this enterprise. But for me… well…different strokes for different folks.
LOCATED INSIDE OLD HOUSE
As historical aside, the Goodwillie – Rademacher house is a Craftsman style that was built on another parcel in 1904 and moved to the current location, which fronts Mirror Pond, in the early 1900’s. (Beautiful outlook from front.

In the 1990’s it was remodeled to meet required codes, including universal (aka ADA) access on the first floor, as part of grant funded work. In 2007 it was added to the register of Historic Places.
As a taxpayer in the city of Bend, I also appreciated the Crow’s Feet Commons folks taking up residency in this city owned old house that the city had recent trouble finding a tenant to fill given the location off Mirror Pond Plaza. The Plaza attracts at times what one might call a «fringe» collection of people, using politically correct language. The previous tenant in the house, an arts appreciation non profit, found the increasing vandalism and even reported physical threats from these people intimidating enough for the largely female staff to move out and move on.
COMBINES BIKE — SKI REPAIR SERVICES WITH COFFEE HOUSE GATHERING
With that as context, I was predisposed to want to love Crow’s Feet Commons. But I didn’t enjoy it. Which has less to do with the business and much to do with the fact that I am simply not in their demographic.
I no longer bike (due to MS) and I never did like skiing, so I’m not a customer for the bike and ski maintenance services or ski rentals (all located on the right side of the house as you enter). It seems as if the folks who own this place and work there really know their stuff in that regard, so if you’re looking for those services, this could be a very good place for you.
But, I do love coffee and it was the coffee house (to the left as you enter) portion that I came to check out. I was eager to see if this might be a new coffee location for me to come to and recommend to others. Based on the experience here, I won’t be back or recommend others join me here. There are simply too many other places in Bend to enjoy coffee (and reading or conversation or whatever it is that you want to go with it) that are more comfortable.
On the plus side, the prices for coffee beverages were on par for Bend. The Americano I ordered was very good and made from Stumptown coffee. (Odd though, given Bend has a number of local roasters that they picked a Portland company.) They also serve hot chocolate, tea, kombucha and even beer and wine.
The eats are limited but include Sparrow bakery products, always a very good thing to have in the repertoire, and grab and go sandwiches from Little Bites.
The «woohoo» element is the people who work there are very friendly
RUSTIC AMBIANCE — UNCOMFORTABLE SEATING
Seating here is the biggest drawback.
A high perch bar height table down the center of the room with uncomfortable backless stools provides the bulk of seating. A couple of mid height tables with stools provides seats for maybe four more. Not a single standard height table in the place means it is somewhere between impractical and impossible for folks with disabilities or even small children. Maybe the recent entrée of the Paraolympics organization in Bend will encourage useable height seating when athletes who use wheelchairs come rolling in and find it missing.
That aside, I found it simply uncomfortable ambiance here. Different strokes for different folks.
A plus is the funky woodburning fireplace, original to the house, which was lit on the cold winter day I visted.
There is a TV mounted in the corner of the room. I can see this coming in handy for folks who might gather here to watch sporting events.
If you have little children in tow, there is a play area in the corner. A good thing as it is unlikely wee ones can safely use the high perch stools.
