Specialties
QuantumCamp is an independent school for homeschoolers during the academic year and for summer campers in the summer. We offer science and math classes for students in grades 1 through grade 8 at three campuses in the Bay Area — Piedmont, San Francisco, and Palo Alto.
We are founded on the simple idea that humans love to learn. Inspired by the great thinkers in education — Maria Montessori, John Dewey, Paulo Freire, Rudolf Steiner, John Holt, Jerome Bruner, and Sir Ken Robinson — we have an amazing core team of educators determining what this actually means in a classroom setting.
The result is an invigorating intellectual and social experience where students leave a class or a summer camp fulfilled, energized, and excited to come back.
History
Established in 2009.
Both homeschoolers and summer campers come from all backgrounds and from all academic skill levels. We love the advanced student looking for a new challenge but we are equally successful with the student falling behind or losing interest. Our inspirational approach is geared for all students. QuantumCamp students come from all 9 Bay Area counties. There are 155 homeschool students currently enrolled. In the summer, we serve between 250 and 300 students.
Faculty
The school has 4 full-time faculty members and one curriculum developer. Two teachers hold Ph.D.‘s and two teachers hold M.S.‘s. During the summer, we bring aboard a dedicated team of teachers, graduate students, and counselors.
Meet the Business Owner
Michael F.
Business Owner
Humans are interesting people! We seem to come up with pretty cool stuff. (Indeed, we have our questionable tendencies, which I hope we are working on.) I am constantly amazed at the things invented, discovered, assemble, and created by us. This is precisely why I decided to get into education, professionally. There are really easy ways of allowing students connect to these profound ideas, which are actually energizing and fulfilling. There is where QuantumCamp comes in! Before QC, I got a Ph. D in materials science, worked as an engineer for a solar cell manufacturer, and taught in both public and independent schools. And now I am the Executive Director of QuantumCamp and am loving working with our amazing team building wonderful classes for students all over the San Francisco Bay Area.
