It has been exactly 3 months since I got my LASIK done, and I couldn’t be much happier!
I had done enough research before my surgery and also visited a couple of great surgeons in town to get my eyes examined. Every surgeon I visited, advised me to get LASIK done, despite my corneal thickness being lower than the average. Part of it was due to the fact that I had high prescription with astigmatism. I was really inclined towards getting PRK done, as getting a safe eye surgery was more important to me, than the recovery process or even the cost of the surgery.
Dr. Segal had some great reviews online, both on Google as well as on Zocdoc. He suggested that I get LASIK instead of PRK to minimize the risk of Higher Order Aberrations. He explained to me clearly on how a LASIK is performed, and gave me a good insight on different excimer lasers available and briefed me over the risks involved with the surgery. The best part about Dr. Segal is that he is not only highly experienced, knowledgable and passionate about his work, but also almost always available to answer any of my questions. I’m not sure if there is any other successful surgeon in town, who is available via calls, emails or even text. I contacted Dr. Segal multiple times, and he has always been very responsive and guiding me with the recovery process. Not only him, but his entire staff, are so friendly and helpful, and they make you feel very comfortable.
The LASIK operation was as expected — simple and not very painful. The valium makes it easy on us as well. After the surgery, it hurts as much as it would, when you chop onions. But a few hours after the surgery, I could not feel the pain anymore. The antibiotics and anti-​inflammatory drops really helped after the surgery. We are advised not to rub or even touch your eyes for at least a day after the surgery. The day after the surgery, Dr. Segal examined my eyes and I was fortunate to end up getting a ²⁰⁄₁₅ vision!
For the first few days after the surgery, I saw a lot of halos and starbursts in my night vision. As my eyes kept healing, a lot of these symptoms were minimized, and now I must say my vision is so much better. The halos and the starbursts are not that bad. I don’t have any issues with dry eyes either. Now I don’t even remember I used to wear glasses before: D
If there is something that I can be critical about, it is with the post LASIK examination — Unless you get the LASIK scheduled on a Friday, you need to drive to the Pasadena location for the Post-​Op checkup. It would rather be convenient if the patients can get their eyes examined at the same location.

I used to be able to see the world only in colors. No lines, no shapes, just dull, hazy colors. I started wearing glasses from a young age (maybe around 5). Before then, I used to sit an inch away from the tv and receive bad grades in school because I was unable to see the board. My glasses strength was so strong, that even when they used newer technology to reduce the len’s thickness, it was still thick. My contact lens strength was –6.5.
I’ve always enjoyed the idea of doing LASIK, talked about it for many years. I just never fully committed. Financially, it makes the most sense (what with my glasses being about $ 600 and contacts being about $ 150), LASIK pays for itself in less than three years. Until this August. I decided to take the plunge and undergo this life-​changing surgery.
Dr. Segal and his staff are very competent. I didn’t feel nervous about the procedure at all. I was actually very calm throughout the preparation process. During the surgery (which you are awake from) I did feel a bit anxious, only because after the flap was created on my cornea, my eye started to itch. Dr. Segal and his assistants spoke in soothing, calm voices throughout the procedure which helped. After the second laser procedure, I was able to see the time on the wall. A first for me to be able to see ANYTHING without glasses and contacts.
Scheduling my post-​op appointments were simple enough, I received reminder phone calls which were I just had my one month post-​op check-​up and was told that I had ²⁰⁄₁₅ vision. I am very happy with the results and wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Segal and his team.

New Year, new eyes! I was a little nervous about getting LASIK and after I carefully read all of the reviews for Dr. Segal I decided to go in for the consultation. My consultation was on Monday and the staff at the Bellaire office made me feel at home. Dr. Segal explained the procedure in full detail, told me I was a good candidate for LASIK and told me to go with Ana for an explanation of the costs. I was so excited and I booked the surgery for that same Wednesday. I have to admit that I was really nervous but Dr. Segal makes everything seem so easy. The actual procedure only lasted a few seconds with absolutely no pain. I am extremely happy with the results, the professional way in which I was treated and how much I felt like I was not just «one more» patient. Dr. Segal even gave me his cellphone number to call/​text him if I had any type of questions! I would recommend him to anybody that is thinking about getting LASIK.

I CAN SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
I had my surgery late yesterday afternoon. I followed the instructions, came home, took the sleeping pill I was given, and slept until morning. I woke up and could see without glasses or contacts!
I would say it’s a miracle but I know better and thanks to the wonderful advancements in science, I can see!

Dr. Segal has fantastic bedside manner. His office offers a free consultation to make sure that you qualify for the procedure and explains the procedure. When I had the surgery it was very easy and went very well. All eyes are different, and mine have taken time to heal, and they get better every day! I am very pleased with my outcome.

Dr. Lampkin is the best! Extremely thorough and attentive to detail. I had LASIK done on Friday morning and by Friday after noon I was perfect and my vision was excellent. He aggressively treated my dry eye before and after LASIK so that I would have optimal results. He is not just a LASIK doctor, he is actually a medical doctor and treats you like a patient not a paycheck. He treats all ophthalmic issues and his office is for all type of ophthalmic issues, not just LASIK like some places. The price was extremely reasonable for the quality of service. Dr. Lampkin came in on Saturday after my surgery just to see me and make sure everything was ok. Absolute 5 star. I would recommend him to anyone!

I had been considering LASIK for quite a while and was recommended to use Dr. Scott E. Segal at the Eye Institute of Houston. I flew in from San Diego for the Surgery. I was quite nervous but Dr. Segal’s professionalism and bedside manner made me feel completely comfortable. Though I was nervous, the surgery was over before I knew it and I quickly realized that I had nothing to worry about. I rested for the rest of the night and woke up with ²⁰⁄₁₅ vision in my right eye and ²⁰⁄₁₀ in my left. It was incredible! Better results than I could have ever possibly imagined! I highly recommend Dr. Segal and his staff!
