Started in 2011 by two musicians with a passion for art and design, Kid in the Background quickly gained ground as a cutting edge marketing, design, and web firm in the mountains of Southern WV.

Jamie Smith and I found each other in the world of concert promoting and through months of working together decided it was time to create our own entity. From two laptops on a living room couch to a sprawling media center in the heart of uptown Beckley, Kid in the Background has come to prove that local marketing doesn’t have to suffer in a small town, and that this community deserves a higher quality local edge.

Through work with dozens of clients of all shapes and sizes, we’ve found there is no problem that we can’t find a solution, and the quality of the products, from websites to rack cards, far exceed that of any local marketing available up to this point.

We are honored to have been accepted into this community and hope with continued work with these fantastic clients we can all be a part of creating a more thriving Beckley community, and southern West Virginia as a whole.
