Herzog-Meier Auto Center

Went for service when an engine warning light came on. Technician called saying I needed alignment and two new tires because my front tires were uneven and badly worn. I said no to tires and alignment because I usually go to Les Schwab for tires. So I get the car and took it to Les Schwab for new tires. They checked the tires and said they wouldn’t sell me new tires because the existing tires were fine.
It makes me wonder how else Herzog is misleading on repairs done or diagnosed.

I’m a huge VW fan having owned several over the past 25 years. However, I had a negative experience over a used car purchase for my daughter and will do everything I can to avoid ever doing business with Herzog Meier. I’ve purchased several used vehicles from dealerships and this was the absolute worst experience to date. The sales people were pushy and really obnoxious. I’m a fairly laid back person, don’t get riled easily, and rarely write a negative review. I understand how used car sale negotiations go and can accept some of the back and forth. It’s also clear that my experience was related to a few individuals and can’t be extrapolated to everyone there. I also deal with consumer relations at my work, but this set a new standard for an unpleasant business transaction. I went ahead and still purchased the car because it was for my daughter and would have walked otherwise. Too bad, because I’ve met Mr. Meier outside of work and wanted to like and support his business. I won’t take my car there for service or parts either.

Brand new for my non Volvo at better than competitor rates! Awesome! In and out the same day, washed and vacuumed. Waiting room is well appointed and has the mother of all coffee machines and snacks. Apparently if you talk sweetly to Douglas, he’ll whip up a freshly made espresso or keurig coffee also.

For the sales department: I came back and got another car from VW. Yet again, it did not disappoint. I arranged everything by phone and they are incredibly helpful. From the selection of the car until the details of the accessories, they are amazing!

So we went car shopping. Had saved up for a while and had a few cars in mind. Stopped by to look and eventually took several cars for a test drive. When it came time to purchase unfortunately it was exactly the experience you don’t want. The back and forth, «checking with the boss» and feeling very anxious. They shopped loans for us and all were ridiculously high rates except one. After letting them know i was pre-​approved through my bank, my rate miraculously dropped to within one point of my pre-​approved rate. After navigating all the paperwork I was made to pose with a sign saying «as is» standing next to the car. As much as i understand the purpose, it felt demeaning to pose like that. All in all the experience wasn’t that great. The final thing really bothered me… It may be small to others but to me it was a big deal… I received no follow up call. No thank you. No further contact after i paid for the car. There’s lots of places to buy a car, my experience here wasn’t good at all. On a positive note i really like the car

The worst sales person. Not on the ball. Called on a car that was on there website for my daughter. Promise to send pics of the car for two days. Lies and lies. Prices changing every day on the car. I’m 1500 miles away and can’t get the truth. Daughter bought a car today with a straight dealership. I buy a new VW my self every two years for business. Never from them. What run around and a wast of my time.

Bought two Mazda6’s from RJ. Great sales experience and the follow up was amazing. The service department is excellent and courteous. I’d recommend this dealership to everyone, just go thru RJ!

Just bought a 2014 VW GTI from Herzog Meier after just moving to Beaverton. After working with their internet sales lady, I met with Ron Lethin, Kevin Lee and their finance guy Brian. Guys were accommodating and professional and worked through the process in a timely manner. I’m looking forward to their continued care and attention to detail when I return to their service department. Good job guys!

TERRIBLE customer service. I am constantly having to prove them wrong that I do have a warranty, that I bought there, they are very into jerking you around, never honest, always upselling. They may have nice/​fancy accomodatations but, that is because they charge high dollar for everything and over service your vehicle. When confronted with the repeated issues they don’t apologize or wish to make things right. Instead I was told on the phone that I was taking up their time by discussing and therefore, my service would take longer. What jerks.

We bought a Volvo C30 on March 27, 2013. At the very end of the sale as we were getting ready to drive away we asked Boris, our sales person for the other key to car. He said, «I can only find one right now.» We said, «That’s a problem. We have to have two keys.» He said he’d go look for it. He came back a few minutes later and said that he was having trouble finding it– but would send it to us. We took him at his word.
We then called Nick the sales manager at Herzog Meier twice the following week. He said they would look for another key. That was a month ago, and we haven’t heard back.
The key that they sold us with our car had a dead battery and almost left us stranded. We were forced to go to another Volvo Dealer, Jim Fisher and have them make us a new key, as well as replace the dead battery in the key they sold us. For the $ 24,000 we paid for our Volvo we expected two working key. Unfortunately they were ok with selling us a car without one working key.

I’ve been here 2 times.
My first time was great. The service technician was friendly and answered my questions thoroughly. The waiting room was nicely decorated and had complimentary cookies and fruit– And free wifi, too!
My second visit was terrible. During check-​in, Jeremy gave me a passive-​aggressive eye-​rolling semi-​lecture about how I was late for my appointment. Then, after the work was done I was told that I couldn’t use a coupon that I had presented during check-​in. When I said that was unfair, I got lectured again about how I was late. WTF?
So yeah, I’m looking for a new auto repair shop for my Mazda3…

A painless, pleasant and timely buying experience. RJ and Michael took excellent care of Wendy & I. No pressure, no hassle and we got a great deal. Truly a professional organization.

Over the years I have purchased many cars and helped several friends in the purchase of their new/​used vehicles. I’ve also known many people that are thrilled to do business with Herzog-​Meier, after my experience helping a friend I will never step foot in to a H-​M dealership again! We started the conversation off like this «I am not purchasing a car today, this is the first day I’ve looked for a potential new car and I am not ready to commit». The sales person seemed to understand however, after test driving 2 cars and finding 1 that my friend was slightly interested in but still not ready to commit, and we reminded the sales people of this numerous times they basically trapped us in a tiny room 3 of them to 2 of us and continued to pressure my friend into this huge purchase. I tried to help him and make excuses to get out of there but the sales people did not seem to care and continued to waste their time and ours for another 2 hours. Eventually my friend had enough of the «tag teaming» and stood up basically told them he’d never do business with them and we stormed out.
I know car dealers are known for being crooks, pressuring and sometimes tag teaming but I’ve never experienced the amount of pressure these folks seemed to have, they just won’t take no for an answer.

These guys are shady, went to buy a car with a pre-​approved loan from my bank and the finance manger tried to get one over on me. It was really insulting how they tried to trick me into signing a contract that would give them the right to resale my loan back to bank I got it from for 9.99%. When I was going in with a cashiers check from my bank for 2.40%. When I called the guy on it, he quickly ripped up the paper and shredded it. WOW! I caught him and he destroyed the evidence so he wouldn’t get in trouble. I’ve bought 3 new cars in my life and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. Won’t be back, and defiantly won’t recommend this place to anyone I know.

This review is for the Service Dept.
I experienced a lengthy issue in regards to a warranty issue I had, long story short. I ended up agreeing to a 250 $ initial estimate because it is 107 $(?) per hr. for diagnostics, and my cars issue is internal I was told it would be more than an hour. So I figured, 2 hours, with some shop fees, maybe grease or something, new bolt, 250 sounded legit. I was very unimpressed when my service writer Jim called me to inform me they had cleared my CEL (Check Engine Light) and found the fault code was for a bad spark plug. So instead of addressing the issue I brought it in for, they replaced my plugs and flashed the CEL. They told me the cost would be just over 180 $ to do something I could have fixed for 50 $ had I known they weren’t going to resolve my concerns.
Now I am going to go pick up my car, and experience the same issue. I will be trying one of the last dealerships in the Portland Metro area that I know of that should be able to service a warranty issue without jumping through hoops like a smaller shop will. I would not advise anyone to sign a service ticket of over their cost of 1 hr for diagnostic labor. (Plugging in a cable and reading codes) unless you want to get jammed with a smaller ticket just so they can move some funds through their department. Thanks for nothing Herzog. Glad I don’t live in Beaverton. You weren’t convenient to get to, and now I have a 2 hour commute to pick up a car that is no better than it was yesterday.

I stopped by on a whim because they had a killer lease deal going on, I test drove a M3 Hatchback and decided it would make a killer grocery getter. They did not have it in pearl white tho, but could get it. I took delivery the next day and that is where it went to shit. I signed my finance paperwork and went about my business. A week or so later I got a call, they made a mistake and needed us to re-​sign our paperwork. We stopped by that afternoon, and the receptionist told us the finance guy was with a customer. I asked if there was anyone else who could help us? She called another person out, we explained why we were there (one would think they would be aware and have the paperwork ready?) of course not. This dude did exactly what I thought and stalled us for 30 minutes while the finance guy finished up. He came out and we somewhat unhappily signed the paperwork again.
Fast forward to several weeks later, I know I had a payment due the 25^th but still had no payment information from Mazda. I called Mazda leasing and they had no record of me in their system. I then called the finance guy, and a day later his «assistant» called me back. They had made yet ANOTHER mistake on the paperwork. I was flabbergasted. This time I told them I was not coming back in, they could come to me. The «Assistant» came to my house and my husband and I re-​signed again and I gave her the check for my first payment threatening death if this caused me to be late and get a report on my credit. She assured me she would overnight the check.
Over a month later, I still have no payment paperwork from Mazda or any license plates. I should have gone to Royal Moore where I have bought many cars and trucks, and never had a problem.

This review is for the service section, specifically Chris Savage. I showed up with no appointment on a busy day and I was treated very professionally and courteously.
I was about to leave town with my dogs to go hiking. I had stopped to get gas before leaving and the gas station attendants could not get my gas cap out. Several people, myself included, tried to get it out but it was wedged in there and it wasn’t going anywhere. My gas warning light had already come on, so I needed gas soon. It wasn’t like I could call around, make an appointment somewhere and wait a day or so to have my car looked at. I figured I would drive a couple miles down the road to Herzog-​Meier and see if they could fit me in.
I braced myself for a long wait. I figured I could also count on being chastised for showing up without an appointment. I was expecting an exasperated look or two. But I figured I would just explain the situation and hope for the best.
I walked in and sure enough, they were slammed busy. I was acknowledged when I walked in the door, but it was a while before they were able to get to me. I was prepared for a wait, so that was fine with me. After a while, Chris helped me. He looked up my information and found that my car was still under warranty, so I didn’t even have to pay for anything. He personally went to the back to see if they had a gas cap (Chris explained that the jammed gas cap used to be a common problem but since the design was improved by Mazda, they hadn’t been stocking as many caps). Luckily for me they did have a spare cap, and Chris came out to my car to pop the old cap out and put the new one in. In fact, he made sure to show me how to do it in case I ever had to do it myself. This may seem like a small thing, but I appreciate when service people treat me like I am capable of doing stuff with my car, so this really impressed me.
Here’s where I was expecting a little more awkwardness. My dogs were both in my car, and since it was a warm day, the windows were rolled halfway down. Some people are hesitant to approach a car with two German Shepherds in it, some might even ask me to roll up the windows, but not Chris. He made conversation about my dogs with me while he worked on the cap. He chatted with me a bit about his current dog and his older dog that he had recently lost. He even showed me a picture of the old German Shorthair Pointer on his computer when we went back into the lobby. Now I may just be a sappy animal lover, but anyone that loves his dog that much is a nice guy in my book. I was really impressed that Chris was so friendly, did not seem flustered by how busy they were or the fact that I was there without an appointment. I think the guy deserves a raise :)

Review for the Service:
Great service! My car is well taken care of when I bring it to Herzog-​Meier. I recommend making an appointment for your Vee Dub with their auto center. You’re pretty much assigned to a service advisor every time you get your services done here.
My service advisor is very helpful and talks through every concern you have with your car (from pricing to tasks that they recommend for the maintenance of your automotive). I usually call in to make an appointment with my service advisor. The night before my appointment, I drop off my car so that they can get a start on it the next morning throughout the day. My advisor calls me around lunch-​ish or early afternoon to let me know the status of my car. I pick it up at the end of the day and go home a happy camper.
That’s usually how the service cycle goes for my Vee Dub and I haven’t had a problem with my car after I’ve had their services. My only pet peeve is that they make you take off your key chain so they have just have your key fob. I guess I have this issue because it’s a hassle for me to just take off my light, cute key chain. But nonetheless, I’d recommend this place to anyone who is looking for service. They’re legit.

This review if for the financing guy: Mo, this guy will push you into sign up something that you were not aware of, and add «extra» fees and services to get finance by the bank, what a jerk.
Be aware of all the numbers and also don’t let him hurry you, its a big decision so take your time, you can always come back the next day and make a better decision.
But I can’t emphasize this enough: Check ALL the numbers and if something doesn’t make sense: ASK, and if still not clear enough ask again, that’s what they are there for, he does that for a living so imagine how many tricks he has under the sleeve, Don’t fall for the «I don’t have all day»

I came here to look at used cars to buy – they had a Volkswagen Rabbit that I was interested in. The man who helped me out at the beginning was nice enough and we drove around the area briefly.
When we came back, he took me to (who I assume was) his boss and the head honcho of the dealership. He was sitting behind a raised desk (as if he was a judge) and some other salespeople flanked him. He started to attempt to bully me into buying the car. Although I had expressed that I was not ready to buy that day (I mean really, buying a car is an investment and requires thought that can’t be made within half an hour of seeing a car) that did not deter him. Belittling me and disparaging me in every way he perceived possible, I think he believed that if he cornered me mentally, he would get me to buy this car.
The «car buying experience» should not be like this. Review your Sales 101 Handbook – relentlessly goading somebody is not a good tactic to sell your product. Needless to say, I did not buy the car. When I left, I felt like I had dodged cannon fire. The other dealerships I have been to have yielded extremely pleasant experiences in comparison.
I only hope that others are not treated this way if they decide to go to Herzog-​Meier. Better yet, go somewhere where you’ll be treated with respect as a potential buyer.
*Edit: I recently found out my credit score from my credit union. Funny thing is that it’s over 150 more points than Herzog said my score was. They were trying to sell me on a loan that had an interest rate that was through the roof, which was based on my (supposedly) super low credit score. Wow, thanks.
