Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa

This place is a complete rip off. They charge between 10 and 20 $ for upgrades. I upgraded to a deep tissue massage (which I think it’s pretty ridiculous to charge an upgrade for that) and all three times I went there the massage was barely a deep tissue. I went to several difference LMT and was disappointed with all of them. I currently found a massage therapist who charges way less (60 $) and I get a real deep tissue massage. Unfortunately I signed up for the month to month package because without it the massages are even more outrageously expensive, I went to cancel it and was charged an extra month (fine, whatever, but I’m for sure NOT getting a massage with that money), I wanted to give it as a gift to someone and they wanted to charge me for that! Cheese and rice can you rip your customers off even more?! Oh not to mention the aromatherapy is also a waste of money, you might as well bring in your own oils and use them because a bottle of those oils is like 2 $. No thank you hand and stone! I have learned my lesson and will not be returning!!!

I went this morning for a facial and was really curious about trying a peel for the first time! I was able to get in with Gina who was incredible. I wasn’t expecting to have someone so knowledgeable! After Gina took the time to talk about my skin and what I was looking for we decided a microdermabrasion was better for me than a peel.
I am getting married in January and have become obsessed with my skin! Needless to say I have booked my second appointment with Gina for 3 weeks and also became a member today! I appreciate her honesty and knew she was doing what was best for me rather than what I originally booked.
You should absolutely go see Gina for all your skin care needs!

Someone gave me a gift card for an hour-​long massage I put the deep tissue massage for yesterday and it wasn’t a good experience. For some reason particularly these chain places treat you like you’re made of porcelain. Ask the girl to push harder about 5 times this wasn’t even close to a deep tissue massage. My girlfriend is 5 — 100 pounds can put much more pressure than this professional. I’m wondering is this laziness on their part? Are they afraid of getting sued? I just don’t get it. This is not my first time having this kind of experience at a chain massage place.

Let’s just begin by saying I’m cheap. I wait a long time between massages so I can get the «lost client discount» or the «we missed you special». Not anymore. I’ve been here before but hadn’t in a while. And while I’m prone to some killer migraines my main reason for booking was stress relief. I didn’t know I was going to be lucky enough to find Chrys.
When I booked my appointment they were flexible with my schedule. It’s nice that they are open until 10pm most nights because I work late. They got me in within a couple days and when April (the manager who made my appointment) suggested a peppermint scalp massage during my session to help with my migraine I agreed to give it a shot.
Chrys, a former migraine sufferer himself, knew just how to help and where to focus to my great relief. He was knowledgeable and calming and wonderful. April and a new girl were both at the desk for check in and out and were both extremely welcoming.
Even on a budget these three convinced me with their kindness and expertise to sign up for a monthly membership. I’ve already booked my next appointment and hope it comes up quicker than it looks on my calendar.

TERRIBLE EXPEREIENCE! I had a bad week and I thought to myself, a massage would be the perfect way to forget about my stress and just relax. I found Hand & Stone Massage online and loved that it was so close to my house. On the morning of my massage, I was really looking forward to it… until I got a phone call from the spa– they have to move my massage back an hour. I thought, not exactly convenient. That was until I was leaving my house, 20 minutes before my newly scheduled massage was going to start, I got another call from the spa. THIS TIME the gal on the phone said that they have overbooked the rooms available… trying to use construction of the building as an excuse… she didn’t feel bad whatsoever that this was the second time they had messed up. She made no attempt to make this poor experience better, except for a half-​assed offer of getting 30 mins free on top of already paying for the 50-​minute massage… NO THANK YOU! I don’t ever plan on going back to Hand & Stone Massage. One word: disappointing.

This place was not a spa. There was no spa room and for the price of the massage I could have gotten a better experience paying a little more somewhere else. They try and sell you on everything once you leave. And they got my phone number wrong and switched my upcoming appointment from a Thursday to a Monday. I will never go back. Horrible customer service. I only have one number and they put a completely wrong one in their system!!!

Enjoyable, relaxing and did the job. Worth the price of introductory rate not good enough to be 80 bucks. Rebecca was great, I’d go back.

I hesitate in giving hand and stone 1 star. I went on Thursday January 7, 2016. I booked a 50min massage at 10:00am. When I arrived my therapist asked me if I wanted to add another service on. I added a foot scrub with pressure point. At 10:54 she said she was done. I asked why my appointment was so short when I added another service. She then told me that they have to include the «add on» into the 50min. I was upset as I would not have done it had I known. So consequently she rushed through my massage not doing my lower back she was abrupt and harsh. She did not give me my pressure point on my feet and left me with an oil slick on my feet and back. When I told her I was upset she said” I will take the foot massage off my bill. «
When we went to the receptionist I had to explain why the delete on the foot massage (my therapist took off) and everyone in the waiting area was listening. Embarrassing!!! After all that, the receptionist still tried to sell me a membership. Don’t do membership. If you can’t go regularly your sessions stack up then you can’t get in. They will keep charging your card. And it’s rare that you get the same person twice. Turn over is high.
Run away as fast as you can. The therapists are incompetent and mediocre. And you can never end without a sales pitch. I tried this place before with bad customer service. I thought things would have changed. No such luck!

I have been coming to get massages for the last few months. I have to say I always feel so much more relaxed following the session. Tanaya always checks to make sure I’m comfortable and has great recommendations following the session. I would highly recommend getting a massage to anyone and would suggest coming to this location. All of the staff that I have interacted with make me feel like I’m the only person they need to take care of.

Had my first experience at Hand and Stone today with a facial by Gina. It was wonderful! The spa was very comfortable, clean, nice and spa-​like (yummy candles burning and water features abound). Receptionist was professional, articulate and very friendly. Facial room was perfect. I’ve had many, many facials at many, many places-H&S rates right up there with spas in Las Vegas, Hawaii and other high end hotel spas. Gina, my esthetician was superb. Great technique, very product-​knowledgable, no pressure tactics at all, explained each step briefly and addressed questions like a pro! Decided their ‘package’ was a fit for me! Looking forward to my first message next week, too.

Didn’t have a good experience here & will not be coming back. When I booked the massage on the phone I was not told it would cost more for being a «prenatal massage» and I stated more than once I was paying with a gift card someone had gotten me. They made me pay the difference & the massage was not worth $ 69.95 what so ever! After leaving I didn’t even feel like I had gotten one. Such a waste of money and time. OH & let me add on the website it does NOT show prenatal cost more.

I used to be a member at Massage Envy, Tanasborne, but went through almost every LMT they had and only really liked one, Bob. After being there about a year, I felt like I was part of a cattle prod. I regularly get massages but have stayed away from the chains, since ME. Kaye, my friend is still, rightfully upset about her mis-​treatment on the business end at ME. The front desk/​business end can really make or break a place. Hand and Stone has a «way to go» on the front desk end, still, though they do make an effort, hiring new staff in the past few months. I know people who moved on to other places due to the front desk here as well. The front desk isn’t what I would call an asset. If I included them, I’d have to deduct at least .5 but the massage once you get into the room is such a very strong 5 stars I can’t justify doing so… tonight, anyway.
Over one year ago, I was walking past Hand and Stone and decided I needed a massage and would risk getting a «so-​so one» by taking «whoever», at this «chain», that was without a client, thus room for me, within an hour. What an awesome surprise to find James! (Book in advance because I was fortunate to have caught him with space for a walk-​in.) Because of his expertise in giving a top notch massage I excitedly purchased a membership that day.
I frequented James but also wondered what other experiences might be at H&S I booked with a woman, who was good but I returned to James. Tried another woman, who I liked a lot and would still see on occasion if possible. Still, I returned to James and saw her occasionally, then she no longer worked there. I tried calling her new massage place (as by now my husband, P., and I are both members and she did well for him). In fairness to James, my husband doesn’t want to try and P. has returned downtown to a private practice for his massages.
Then I discovered Brittany who does Thai massage (extra $‘s, for this and other add ons… I always add 30 minutes to my 60 so I can be fully relaxed and feel nothing «wanting»). I really like Thai Massage but haven’t seen one available since being at the Kripalu Center in MA, decades ago. Thai is not on their billing or menu so you’ll have to ask. Brittany worked with me a number of times, I think of Thai as a three «dimensional» massage; whereas deep tissue can be a great two dimensional physical experience. Thai, with Brittany, is a treat everyone should at least experience once. Good luck stopping at one Thai though.
Still I keep most steady with James. I have mentioned to him, at least three times, that I need to shout out to let Unilocalers know of his awesome work. I know what I like and he delivers that and more. Timing is everything… there was a woman at ME that was booked heavily; but she was in such a rush to hit every spot that I was not comfortable enough to relax as deeply as I like. James has taken coursework beyond basic massage training and you will understand that as he moves you toward, then gently into an experience you will look forward to again and again.
James has also worked with me through injury recuperation. I wonder when I will stop being surprised at what a longterm difference his work makes on my multiple roads to healing. The latest was a bike accident. I felt the fall deeply, seemingly my organs slapped one another. I was left with floating rib area loudly popping in a way that jolted and caught my attention. I couldn’t image one massage able to «cure» what I had been to the doctor about and suffered with for four weeks. Ninety minutes later that area stopped popping and hasn’t done so for six weeks since.
Brittany and James have been employed, at the Cedar Hills H&S, longest of any therapists. There is a new guy that was just hired and I keep considering adding an additional massage (within the month) to see what he offers. The therapists H&S employ have not been a disappointment, even once.
I have decades of experience receiving massages; ranging from lush spa’s with robes, pre-​and post relaxation rooms with nonalcoholic drinks, showers, muds/​lava ash wraps and wonderful aura’s; to hand, reflexology or cranial sacral massage. (Did I say ashiautsu can be nice? I am on a «hunt» to find the intuitive reflexologist who worked the Healing Arts Fair years ago.) If I could justify the expense I’d return to the lushness including top notch front desk and walkways above streams with water running down the wall.
I leave James feeling most satisfied and glad I have been able to depend on him working at this location for so long.

Very nice and welcoming, I felt like the front desk was really attentive to my needs and had a great conversation with them! Loved the massage it was really relaxing! Can’t wait to tell my friends! :)

I’m not a huge fan of chain/​franchise places in the beauty industry, but I love coming here. I always leave feeling great and their products and techniques are the best.
Amanda did my facial today and she is AMAZING! Such a sweet girl with a great sense of humor, and she dealt with my crazy skin type masterfully!

I have been going to Hand and Stone since they opened. I am very happy to be member. Good service, nice group of people and it is clean. I take friends and family all the time. Everyone is happy when they come out of their massage. Thank you

Who doesn’t love a massage? I went to the Cedar Hills Hand and Stone to get a gift card for my daughter… she deserves a break after having put up with me for 20 years! :-)
Did a little bit of research before I went and found that a one hour massage would be $ 49.95. I marched in, all proud of myself for being a thoughtful mom, and told the girl I needed a gift card. She gave me a laminated price sheet that showed a price of $ 89.95. I was a little taken aback so I politely set it down, smiled, and told her the price I had seen online. She then proceeded to inform me that this price sheet that was burning my fingers was the «gift card price sheet».
Seriously…I know…
So the moral of the story is… Go somewhere else or be willing to pay almost twice the amount to give someone the gift of relaxation from Hand and Stone. Me? I’m going somewhere else.

And here we go again… I put my account on hold due to not being able to come in for months thanks to a hectic work schedule. So they send me a «We miss you» email offering my first massage back $ 10 off. So I get it scheduled and they charge me full price yet tell me she needs to talk to her manager and have her waive that $ 10 back to me. After several weeks, my appointment (where I AGAIN have to ask and am told the same thing)…nothing. I work a lot and cannot call so I send an email to corporate who forwards it. After saying not to call, the manager calls anyway and leaves me a message saying that the two emails I received were for NEW customers (though they are addressed to me saying WE MISS YOU and specially referencing it being a WELCOME BACK)…so apparently I am DELUSIONAL… Then she also says that my acct was SUSPENDED… Ok, so now I am a criminal… really? At this point it is a matter of principle and also bs — seriously, $ 10… The amount of time and effort their manager spent to call and leave me a snotty voicemail to welcome me back cost their company maybe $ 20 in paying her rather than just refund it seriously… So I was not going to even bother looking at Massage Envy for a monthly thing (I like the convenience and also I plan to start going possibly weekly for massages and need a company which is not going to give me a freaking headache) but I hesitated because they are called «Massage Envy» meaning that they just do massages and I want facials too… oh look at who was motivated to take a peek at their website — they are CHEAPER, have way better reviews AND offer facials which are also less money and in a few super convenient locations to me — they actually have many more locations than Hand and Stone. Good to know I never have to deal with this bs again now that I need another massage after dealing with some of the most shockingly poor customer service ever…

I have been going to this Hand & Stone for a little over a year now, as my family has a monthly membership. Overall, the quality of the massages is good, even though I don’t have one person I consistently go to — I just take whatever appointment is available. I have had some subpar massages, but most have been relieving and relaxing. The place is clean, and while not super fancy, it does the job well. The people are nice and friendly.
If you plan on going there, I would suggest finding someone you like and then sticking to them so you always know what you’re going in for.

I came here specifically for a hot stone massage as my current therapist at Dosha doesn’t do hot stone. First, its your classic Walmart chain spa, ala massage envy. Second, I am diabetic and I was informed by the therapist after I checked in because of my condition and he pays his own insurance, its the state law I can’t have hot stone and he blamed the intake girl and began the massage «you will get it this time because you paid for it, but you will never get a hot stone massage from me Chris again.» Seriously, we are off to a stressful start.
I admit I was tight, and he did relieve some pressure points, but he seriously talked the whole time! I know he was a car salesman, owned a scrap booking business and every minutia. I was cordial in responding, but I just want silencio and to relieve all the tension.
I can’t have a hot stone massage and given the above, I will not be back!

After my last (yet another) damn perfect massage from my girly Brittany, I felt it necessary to update my review and bring it up to four stars! Partly ’cause I can get in to see the person (uh, Brittany) I want in a short amount of time (like a day or 2 usually) which is WAAY better than many massage joints.
To me a spa is only as good as the person who does your massage and I think Brittany has talented hands and a real great sense of what you are kneading (ha) in a massage. Brittany Brittany Brittany — saying the name just makes me relax.
So, if you can’t tell, I’ve definitely started liking on this place better and better.
Bonus: I still haven’t signed on the dotted line… but I’m getting closer to it. Seems like they are addressing the ongoing commitment phobic (me) so we can all get member prices.
