History

Established in 1983.

The Year was 1983 when my wife, Beverly Cutforth, and I, Bill Cutforth, took a leap of faith. We used the proceeds from the sale of a small piece of land and a small loan from my dad in order to stock the parts shelves. We rented an abandoned Texaco station on Airline Highway and on August 22^nd, 1983 we stepped out into the world as business owners. The V Shop was born. With my experience from being a senior technician at the Volvo dealership, and my wife helping out part time, juggling the care of our two young boys and trying to run a household, business was amazing. We made new friends with our first Volvo customers who are still with us today! We worked long hours on our own for a few weeks before hiring my long-​time friend and mentor, Mike Childers, a highly experienced Volkswagen and Volvo technician. With time, we grew, built our bigger shop, and are proudly specializing in Volvo, Land Rover, and Jaguar repair service.

Business Owner

Bill started working on Volvos at 15 years old under the tutelage of Baton Rouge’s first Volvo mechanic. In 1976, age 18, he started his official career at Prevost Volvo as a technician trainee. After years of real world and Volvo factory training seminars, he became their lead technician. He enjoyed customer interaction so much that, in 1983, he left to open The V Shop, which afforded him opportunity to form lifelong relationships that continue today. In fact, his very first customer still drives a Volvo that is serviced at The V Shop. Bill has enjoyed watching families hand down the «old family Volvo» to their kids and watching those babies grow up and bring their family car in for service as adults. Bill has been a Volvo and Land Rover enthusiast since the beginning, he and his family have driven too many to list, but they all have been very well maintained by The V Shop.
