History

Established in 1970.

The first retail store was on Ridge Road, in an unincorporated part of Gary, Indiana. The store opened in the spring of 1970 and sold above ground swimming pools and of course chemicals, toys, and accessories.

The store was 1500 square feet with a 3,750 SF warehouse and an outside pool display. We carried 2 pool lines that year. To be accurate this is our 44^th year in business, and our 45^th summer selling above ground pools.

There are not that many retail stores in the Chicago market that have actually survived the last 45 years, especially with the extreme ups and downs our economy has experienced. We have faced many challenges, but continue to be strong and continue to be the absolute leader in the specialty leisure retail market. We now have 26 stores across the Midwest including Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

Manager

Frank Gaudio has been managing the Batavia Great Escape since 2005. He has been in the industry for over 20 years, 13 of those years being here at The Great Escape. He has had the opportunity to sell every top brand and knows his products inside and out! From pools, spas, patio, billiards and playsets, Frank is the «go to» expert for all of your recreational needs!
