We specialize in warmth, snowboards and snowboard accessories. We also sell skateboards, apparel, outerwear, and winter necessities.

We offer the best snowboard rentals and demos in the area. There is also an onsite snowboard technician who can wax, sharpen, tune, and repair any snowboard in need.

History

Established in 1981.

EDGE of the WORLD has been a family owned business since day one.

We began as a small outdoor store that offered guided canoeing, and cross-​country ski tours. Over the years we have developed into a Snowboard Shop that offers Whitewater Rafting and Rock-​Climbing/​Rappelling guided trips in the summer months.

Owned and operated by the Barrow family, the business was founded on Christian beliefs. We have prided ourselves on providing top-​notch quality service to our customers, while being pillars of our community, and good role-​models for the youth.

Every customer that walks through our doors is important to us. We strive to make everyone’s day on the mountain better.

Meet the Business Owner

Jeff J.

Business Owner

Born in NC, I lived in NY from age 8 to 16, which is where my love for snowboarding began. As the son of a Ski Patroler, I spent most of my weekends on the mountain learning how to snowboard.

After moving back to NC in 1995, I found EDGE of the WORLD & immediately knew that this place was more than just a shop. Attending college at Appalachian State University, I majored in Management & Marketing. Through college I kept close ties with the shop, the owners, and the employees.

In 2001, I had a near death run-​in with a tree on Cupp Run, Snowshoe WV. I broke my elbow, femur & shattered my wrist & knee-​cap. It was 9 months before I was able to return to the slopes. It was through this experience that I learned… Carpe Diem!

In 2003 I started working at EDGE of the WORLD as a raft guide by summer, and a sales associate by winter. In 2007 I took over the snowboard shop. I am now in my nineth season here and I am so stoked to be a part of this tradition… this legacy… this family!
