Yellow & Checker Cab

If it were possible to give negative stars, I would do so. I live in their main zone of Baltimore City and despite booking online several days in advance for a specific day and time, this family of companies: Yellow, Checker, Jimmies and Veolia is unable to assign a driver AHEAD of time so that they arrive ON time? If you have to be someplace on time, don’t even bother with this outfit. I’ll give Über or Lyft a try next time.

I wanted to report the poor driving of Taxi# 88, but conveniently for Yellow Cab, but none of the numbers listed on the offending cab get you to the right place. One connects you to a wrong number, and one connects you to a woman, who if you wait on hold forever, disconnects you. The driver of taxi #88 honked at me and gave me the finger for having the audacity to stop at a crosswalk to allow schoolchildren to cross the road. He continued to honk for about 30 seconds while the poor children had to cross in front of him, while I blocked his way so they could cross. He seemed unaware of the state law necessitating stopping at crosswalks, despite the mockery of safety all over Yellow Cab’s website. Since I can complain to «How is My Driving?» or speak to a person at the main yellow cab number (all you can do is text), I’m complaining on Unilocal.Stay away. It seems that Yellow and Checker are the same.

Called for a cab on a Tuesday morning to Fells Point. 25 minutes later called for an update and was told one was on its way. 10 minutes later called back to be told the same thing. 10 minutes called again and demanded an ETA – I had a flight to catch. Dispatcher agreed wait was unreasonable and said she was sending another driver who would be there within minutes. Yup, in another 10 minutes called back and was told another few minutes. Then 2 cabs showed up within minutes of each other. I made my flight but did not appreciate the added stress. I would have been better off walking to a busy intersection and hailing one myself. Oh, and the cost was a good $ 8 more than the BWI Airport Taxi I took coming home.

My friend and I got the «tourist» treatment by a driver from this company and I greatly regret that I didn’t get his cab number. Despite being told exactly which restaurant we wanted to go to by the valet and several times by my friend, he insisted he knew where he was going and would get us there faster another way due to traffic. he talked a mile a minute about coming from Africa and how great the USA was which we agreed with. Little did we know he was distracting on purpose so we wouldn’t pay attention. He dropped us off at the restaurant (or so we thought) and charged us $ 11.00. We go inside only to find out our reservation is at the «other» one on Water Street which is what we had told him. Because it was dark and we couldn’t see any street signs we thought we were at the right one. He took us to the further one to get a better fare and tip I guess. Apparently this is very common in Baltimore. When we finally got another cab which we had to hail ourselves because no one the restaurant called would come, he proceeded to tell us about the electrocuted rats in his kitchen!
No wonder everyone else was using UBER!!!

I called for a cab only to find out that they wouldn’t provide service to the suburbs area I was in. This is the conversation that followed:
Operator: «We don’t provide service there. We are only in Baltimore.»
Me: «Really? Okay»
Operator: «I have a number you can call though to find a cab.»
Me: «Okay great! Just a second» (I dig through a bag for a pen) «Okay go ahead.»
Operator: «It’s 411.»
Me: «Uh…411? Is that a Yellow Cab number?»
Operator: «No, that’s information.»
Me: «Yeah, that’s not helpful at all. kthxbuhbye.»
Zero stars for nothing, and for treating me like I’m an idiot.

I was just about ran off the road this morning by driver 998 (taxi van) because I apparently failed to respond to a green light fast enough. The driver followed me until my next stop and then accosted and threatened me. When I told the driver I would report him, he stated «I run this shit,» and then drove away (through a red light).
After that encounter, I’ll never grab a ride with this company again. Just another reason for me to dislike cab companies in general.

After posting my review, a member of the administrative staff reached out to me in an effort to correct the incident mentioned above. The individual displayed an immense amount of respect and professionalism, and I was very impressed at the quick response I received. I have to say that I’m rather surprised to see such professionalism from a cab company employee.
Final takeaway, while their drivers may not be the best, they do appear to be one of the best, if not the best, cab company in the city of Baltimore. Ride carefree knowing that even if you do have an issue with one of their drivers, the company itself will do their best to make it right.

What’s the point of being in the taxi business if you don’t pick up your customers? Not even a call back to say they couldn’t make it! Do not use this company… Especially on a cold day!

cant agree enough with most of the reviews here. DONT COUNT ON THEM TO SHOW UP even if you made an appointment! And dont expect good customer service when you call to ask about it.

I visited Baltimore and used Yellow cab 3 times. I called on two occasions for a pick up and although the phone etiquette was not ideal or professional, I did get picked up within 10 minutes both times. On a 3^rd occasion, I went with the yellow cab the hotel called from the street. It was can #1036. I should have know there would be a problem when he first asked me which route I wanted him to take. Since I said the quickest, I identified myself as a tourist. Then I realized, I couldn’t find the meter. I like to watch the meter so I can have cash in hand with tip so I’m can leave the cab right away. When we finally pull up to my destination I see the driver peek under his red baseball cap that was sitting on the dash the entire time! He was hiding the meter! He threw out a number and I paid it. Instead of confronting him, I opted to write a review. If I wasn’t alone I may have questioned it or called dispatch but I was worried about a n unnecessary confrontation. I went to the website to complain but they don’t really have an outlet for customer feedback. #1036 is an utter rip off artist. If you get his cab, decline and go to the next one. I’m giving 2 stars for the cabbies before him that were decent.
If you don’t mind the lack of customer service and don’t mind confronting a driver, then go for it. If there are other options out there, I would recommend it.

Horrible! I’d give 0 stars if I could. Their cabs don’t always come to my neighborhood, so it’s always a crap shoot whether the cab driver will show up or not when I book a cab on line. I was 2 hours late to a meeting because the first cab driver didn’t show, then i called the dispatcher who said that the cab has picked someone up at my address (clearly not at my address…), and I call several more time — the cab was «on the way…10 minutes away». 2 hours later, I finally got a cab to come.
Additionally, they don’t tell you this ANYWHERE on the Taxi Magic website, but if you book the cab on line, they will charge you an extra dollar. I only found this out today when my driver accosted me for not paying enough for the fare… I called the cab company to ask, and dispatcher very rudely told me, «yes, it is an extra dollar for ANY CALL.» I wanted to clarify whether this was also applied to their on-​line system and she just kept repeating in a very impatient manner, «any call, any call…» Yes, lady, I et your point, but you’re not answering my question. Question answered: horrible service. Opt for other car service options instead (of the non-​cab company kind)

In my personal opinion:
I am driving and one of the drivers tried to cut me off… I didn’t let him. He then pulled up beside me and started yelling at me and called me a bitch… so yea… I am not a fan of their «customer service»

Awful… just awful. The last 3 times I called Yellow Cab they were late. Yesterday I waited 45 minutes, called 3 times to find out where the cab was… the 4^th call I canceled my request… ended up walking to the Hilton in Baltimore and picking up a cab. Note: I suffer from fibromyalgia and arthritis… walking is difficult and painful.
The time before the cab was late, I called Yellow Cab to follow up on the status of my driver only to find out my request was canceled… the time before that I had to call twice to find out where the cab was… finally arrived about 30 minutes late.
The drivers are fine but the dispatcher apparently is completely incompetant!
I will never use this service again…

Never came to pick up my son. I was sick and could not take my son to school… so we called Yellow cab. Never came. We called again.

I’d give them half a star if it were possible. We live in the city so we often use them for trips to Canton and Fells Point. My biggest concern are the ghetto hoochie dispatchers and their supervisors. We called for a pickup on a corner because that was the easiest location and the dispatch hoochie ghetto welfare woman hung up on us after telling us to «just wait for a cab». After calling back and speaking to a supervisor, she too hung up after telling us to ‘just’ wait’. It was only after a 3^rd call that a polite, possibly educated woman told us that they do not pick up on corners and we would need to provide an address.
This all occurred on a saturday at 1pm in Mt Vernon. This is the most unprofessional staff I have ever encountered in my life. These ghetto b1tches need to realize what customer service is and understand it is their job to dispatch and no act like they are high and mighty. I would avoid this company like a thug to water.
We are awaiting a response from ‘management’ for this debacle. Welcome to Baltimore.

HORRIBLE!!! I called 6 times to get a cab, 4 of which the dispatchers admitted never showed. When I got in touch with the manager, she stated, point-​blank, that if one of their scheduled cabs gets hailed on the way to an appointment, they’ll ditch the appointment and take whoever. Then, the manager, without any cursing or rudeness on my part, proceeded to hang up on me. I called back twice, simply asking for the her name and id#, and they hung up on me again. Absolutely appalled.
This isn’t the first time I’ve used them. They consistently pull this crap. Failed pickups, whether they dont like your destination, or because someone hails them on the way, hostile staff, refusal to take people based on distance, even race (multiple friends reported this to me)… Need I go on?
I rarely give 1 star, but if I could give zero stars, I would.
This charade of a taxi co. is THE PITS.
