The Charmery is the dream come true of husband and wife team, David and Laura Alima. For over 10 years, they imagined their Ice Cream Shop — travelling around the country for R&D for their own shop. It’s been an amazing journey to get to the point where they opened the doors to The Charmery and shared their vision to the Baltimore community. Both Maryland natives, The Charmery is a homage to the city they live in and love.

This is a cute little ice-cream shop with a lot of nice favor… as you walk in you can smell the waffle cone being made and you just want to eat everything!!! My husband got a Guava Jelly Ice-cream and it was very refreshing! Not too sweet and taste very very good… the Old-Bay favor is a little bit too much for my taste…
Make sure you spin the wheel if you have kids, they may get something special!!! :)
Oh, and also visit the «under the sea» theme bathroom… it’s interesting… :)

Best ice cream I’ve ever had! Texture is perfect, flavors are exactly as they say they are — cheddar popcorn tastes like it! I travel often for work and make sure to stop at the best of the best ice cream in each city. I can say, hands down, that the Charmery is the best ice cream I have eaten in America. Well, it may be a tie with a place in Washington. But still, it’s leagues above most places.
Plus they have these awesome spoons that change color with temperature. Rad!
Stickers are free — I’m proudly displaying one on my carry on bag.
Way to go, Charmery. I will be back each time I’m in Baltimore!

ICE CREAM ICE CREAM ICE CREAM ICE CREAM!!!
So we stopped in to see if they would have any unique flavor…
OLD BAY CARAMEL… OMG!!! It sounds crazy but try it. (which we tried all the flavors). Think salted caramel with a little tang … I also got the Mezcal Lime/Strawberry… oooohhhh so good… TART and sweet great combo!
My only complaint is about the to-go container… two flimsy bowls and a rubber band is NOT a to-go container… By the time we drove 20 minutes the ice cream was soft… to much longer it would have been a milky mess…
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE invest in some decent ice cream cups…

Special thanks to the Charmery for a really fun New Years Eve celebration!
I’ve noticed a few reviews about lines/waiting and just wanted to add my thoughts on that. We’ve been there for a few of their (REALLY FUN!) special events like Ice Cream for Breakfast Day and New Years Eve celebration. On both of these occasions there have been long lines, but each time I’ve been really impressed with how quickly they have served people. The staff is always cheerful and on-top of everything. Moral of the story: don’t miss out on a trip to the Charmery because of a line or go a little early to beat the crowd.

Finally made it out to Hampden to try out their ice cream and it didn’t disappoint. I chose the pistachio toffee, which was the right balance of the nutty flavor with the sweet toffee. Definitely looking forward to going back and trying other flavored!

My husband and some friends stopped by here after I coaxed them to hop in after looking at the lights on 34^th. Even though it was cold out (which is surprising given this winter, haha), and even though my friend said it was way too cold for ice cream… what did we do? We all got ice cream! I thoroughly enjoyed my vanilla ice cream cone (yeah yeah, I played it safe) and the hubby’s orange creamsicle (??) cone was delish too! Great find and I am super glad we stopped by!

What can I say to express my love for this ice cream parlor? How about I’m lactose intolerant but I can’t even care when I come here. The staff is friendly and are troopers as there is consistently a line out the door. The homemade waffle cones smell heavenly and taste just as good. I love love the speculos flavor which tastes exactly like biscoff. The last time I came, my friends and I grabbed cones and walked over to 34^th street to see the lights. Yes it’s pretty expensive but you get what you pay for. And it’s worth it for the occasional treat!

Add another rave review to the list. We walked here from the 34^th Street Lights last weekend. It was super quick. After seeing everyone walk by with ice cream, I knew we had to go there. The flavors. WOW. Talk about different. I ended up sharing a chocolate shake with my son and husband. I know that doesn’t sound amazing but… cue foodgasm. Rich and thick and perfectly chocolatey. The rest of the family got other flavors including the berger cookie and eggnog. It was busy but not packed.

I love ice cream and The Charmery doesn’t disappoint.
They have a great selection of flavors that range from #basic Pure Vanilla to the (in?)famous Old Bay Caramel. Because there are flavors that rotate in and out, there are always several flavors that I’m torn between – and I’m pretty picky about flavors.
This time around, I had the Otterbein Sugar Cookie. YUM. I love ice cream with mix-ins, and it was love at first taste – the morsels of sugar cookie were super delicious. The ice cream itself wasn’t too sweet, which was a perfect post-brunch dessert. I had a taste of my friend’s Salty Caramel too, and the balance between salty and sweet was on point! Overall, everything was really creamy and delicious.
Regardless of whether you get a cup or a cone, make sure you grab a color-changing spoon because it makes eating your ice cream 10 times better (it’s been scientifically proven, I swear).
There can be a line out the door on a busy day, but I promise you it’s worth the wait.

LOL turns out I went to The Charmery on a themed weekend. Much better experience this time without the annoying music (which made a whole star difference to me).
This is still the best ice cream I have had in Baltimore. I will take all my non-lactose-intolerant friends here.
The Charmery is great because if you forget your frequent customer card, they will combine multiple that you collect.

This place is awesome if you’re just looking for a simple ice cream done right.
I tried a classic flavor mint chocolate chip and a chocolate one with brownie and choc chips in it (Maryland Mud). Both were creamy, smooth, and flavorful.
The mint chocolate chip was seriously minty and had little chunks of Andes in every bite. The chocolate one was soo satisfying because of the brownie chunks and rich flavor of chocolate.
My favorite experience was opening the door and getting a huge wiff of the waffle cones being made. It smelled like I was walking into a bakery and sugar cookies were just being taken out of the oven!
I just need to come back and try more of the flavors! Also, I didnt know this but you can add a mini or «baby» scoop for just a dollar! If i knew this I would have totally added a mini scoop of the Otterbein sugar cookie flavor, but didn’t want to get the entire scoop!
Anyways, if you’re craving ice cream in Baltimore look no further than The Charmery!

I’ve been here twice so far. Both times, the line was out the door, but it was worth it! I got a regular scoop of Berger cookies ‘n’ cream ice cream the first time. The second time, I got a kids’ scoop of Brown Bread with a baby scoop of Otterbein Sugar Cookie.
I’ve also tried the Old Bay ice cream, which is pretty good — it just tasted cinnamon-y.
I really liked Brown Bread because it seemed to have crunchy bits (like toffee) in it. The Berger cookies ice cream was also really good, but maybe a little too sweet. The Otterbein cookie ice cream was also delicious.
Overall, the staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is great. The Charmery smells amazing, even just walking past it outside! Also, it’s fun to watch them make the waffle cones in the back while waiting! The color-changing spoons are just the icing on the cake.

Phenomenal ice cream and color changing spoons — what more can you want?! The Charmery is a cute ice creamery in Hampden that serves a bunch of unique delicious flavors. The last time I went there, I got the rye whiskey (definitely try if you’re a whiskey lover) and the Otterbein sugar cookie flavors. One of their employees told me that the Otterbein sugar cookie is one of their most popular flavors, so I opted for that one even though I was worried it would be too sugary. It exceeded my expectations — the soft texture of the sugar cookie complemented the whiskey taste of the rye whiskey and was not overly sweet either. Other interesting flavors they had were fireball, coconut coffee (vegan), etc.
You can get one of those cards that you get stamped every time you get an ice cream there and after 10, you get your next one free and they turn on the disco lights and let you spin this cool wheel with various prizes!
Overall, The Charmery is best ice cream that I’ve had in Baltimore so definitely worth a trip or three to Hampden!

The Charmery is a great little ice cream store in Hampden that lives up to the pun in its name. From its cheerful star to wide range of flavors, this place has lines out the door for a reason!
I came here with a couple friends on a Saturday night and we were left wanting more (if only we could…). Our favorite flavors were the Maryland Mud, Sugar Cookie, and Mint Mountain flavors. You can mix and match sizes of your scoops. If you want a variety, I recommend getting a kiddie scoop with an additional scoop of a different flavor. Two kiddie scoops are just the right balance of serving size and flavor diversity.
The prices here are very reasonable, especially given the quality of the ice cream. If you love homemade, creamy ice cream made with creative flavors, be sure to stop by here!!!

Had the lemon stick ice cream in a sugar cone — perfect sweet treat for a sweltering day. Line moves quickly and I was even able to sample the special flavor — mint with figgy lime swirl (good, but I prefer peppermint in ice cream versus the more herbaceous mint flavor) before having to make a decision. Even though it was busy, we found a space to sit near the window for a quick chat while we finished our ice cream. And, best of all, there isn’t a credit card minimum like there seems to be in many other shops. Superb.
They’ve got quite a bit of selection of flavors (including vegan/dairy-free options) and they also offer milkshakes of any of their flavors, sundaes, and a chocolate malt. I would happily go back if I were in Hampden again.

What a fantastic privately owned ice cream parlor!
Came here in the beginning of the summer and thoroughly enjoyed the burger ice cream.
The ice cream is smooth and delicious! The flavors a wide and diverse and unconventional! They give you a spoon that changes color when cold and warm!!! Which automatically took me to my child hood!!!
My boyfriend enjoyed the lucky charm ice cream.
The staff is very friendly and have great knowledge of the product. I truly felt like I was enjoying local ice cream in the charm city as I sat outside with the fun sidewalk paint…
It was honestly and enjoyable experience! It defiantly puts cold stone to shame!
Way to go I will be back!

Came here with a friend for dessert on Tuesday afternoon around 1pm. There were no other customers inside, so we didn’t have to wait to be served. The server immediately offered to let us try flavors. There were some pretty unique flavors here, like the Old Bay Salted Caramel. I tried a few flavors and decided on 1 scoop the Whole Bean Coffee (coffee is my favorite flavor) in a waffle cone.
My only complaint is that they didn’t have some more traditional flavors, like strawberry (my 2^nd favorite flavor).

The minute you walk in through the door you are smacked in the face/nose with an overwhelming aroma of sweetness… and an enormous line of customers. Please note that I couldn’t breathe in here, if you are like me and can’t deal with tremendous sugary scents then do not come in here. I couldn’t even taste my ice cream because the smell was so intense and I could feel my throat clogging up. Don’t laugh or think I am crazy, but it is true that your taste buds and nose work together for you to truly enjoy your food (olfactory neurons).
My boyfriend ordered cookie dough (I believe) and a scoop of the jelly doughnut – he thought he was eating a doughnut straight-up. He loved it. I sampled the old bay caramel and at first I liked it until the after-taste came through and it was way too peppery for ice cream, however, anything having to do with old bay I must try! So I stuck with the Santa’s Cookie. Again, I wish I ate this in my car…

¡Qué rico por diosssss! ¡Qué manjar!
Aquí todos los helados son hechos en situ y con ingredientes locales y orgánicos. Y eso se nota mucho al probarlo porque tienen un sabor riquísimo no, lo siguiente.
Además, los sabores van cambiando y cada tanto hay nuevas delicias para probar. Yo hoy probé el de Salted Caramel (im-pre-sionante) y el Cookies and Cream, que está hecho con una galleta muy típica y emblemática de Baltimore, la Berger (yo tampoco sé qué es pero da igual con lo rico que es).
La única pega, que me parece un poco caro: una bola te costará $ 3,50. Pero vale la pena porque ¡puede ser el mejor helado de la ciudad!
