Scene 217

I visited Scene 217 on Friday, June 10 to get my hair done before a close friend’s wedding.
The task of going somewhere for hair, especially when you’re in from out of town and have literally no idea where to start, can be especially daunting. Finding Scene 217 has been one of the times that Unilocal has truly and sincerely paid off; I had an absolutely awesome experience! From the initial booking to the accommodation at the salon, they really made me feel like a local even though I’m not sure when I’ll be back in Baltimore again.
I had the pleasure of seeing Morgan, who not only was kind and a great conversation (Game of Thrones!) but she wound up getting exactly what I wanted even though my own description of it wasn’t all too great. Further, she had a great understanding of the time constraint I was under and gave me one of the best up-​dos I’ve ever had. Getting a compliment from the bride about my hair made it feel even better. My appointment was for 1:45 in the afternoon and my hair was still going strong through 10 PM, which is A+ quality in my book.
The receptionist was very nice as well, offering a glass of water for me as soon as I got in, and I feel awful that I can’t recall her name.
Absolutely amazing service, and I look forward to visiting again if I’m ever in town. Definitely a card I’m going to keep and I’ll be sure to suggest to anyone I know in the area.

I had my hair cut and colored by Morgan earlier this week and I am SO happy with her work! She did a subtle balayage and it’s beautiful. I’ve received many compliments in the past few days since the appointment. Morgan is extremely knowledgeable and took the time to answer all the questions I had. Not only Morgan, but the entire staff is very friendly so the time went quickly as I chatted with everyone while I was there. Overall the experience was awesome and I highly recommend Scene 217, especially Morgan!

I’ve been here 3 times now and have nothing but great things to say. Morgan and I used to work together in college so I had been following her work on instagram. I was debating whether to make an appointment since I live in DC but eventually decided I had to come in to see her! She did balayage highlights on my first trip (first hair color ever) and a fresh cut, both of which I was obsessed with. I have been back twice since then and she always takes the time to listen to what I want and tell me how we can achieve the look in the pinterest pictures I have with me :) The salon is smaller and everyone is super friendly. They also all seem to be trained to provide the BEST shampoo/​scalp massage you will ever have — promise. GO NOW — you won’t regret it!!!

After a few not-​so-​good experiences trying to find a new stylist when I moved to Baltimore, I’m so glad I found Scene 217! I’ve been going to Katie regularly for a few years now, and I’ve never been less than thrilled with my haircut. She even took me from a short pixie to shoulder-​length, and totally minimized the awkward in-​between stages. Love this place and love Katie!

I came to Scene 217 to see Morgan. I had a haircut at a different salon about a month or so ago and the layers were too choppy and blunt (I like a more blended smooth look).
I have super dry hair due to a thyroid issue. Morgan took note and used a hydrating mask on my hair. She gave me a fresh cut and a updated style that also corrected my choppy layers and too blunt ends. Morgan also gave me the best blow out I have ever had. My hair was super straight and smooth.

Love the people here!!! Customer service is great!!! Love my girls Katie, Britney, Tina, Morgan, Debbie, well pretty much everyone!

Perfect location in Little Italy with beautiful décor on the inside. All of the staff are amazing and ensure you will be satisfied with your new hairstyle! Brittney and Katie are my favorite! Enjoy a glass of wine and relax, while someone does your hair! I always look forward to going!

Went to Scene 217 for the first time a few weeks ago and loved it. Brittany did an amazing job on my hair and took the time to teach me how to curl it myself. It’s been a long time since I’ve liked a hairstyle (my fine hair usually ends up looking weighed down). Will definitely be going back. Overall the salon has a great atmosphere and even offered wine (yay!).

Scene 217 might disappoint my hair stylist in NYC because Katie did a wonderful job with my hair — now I don’t have to go to NYC to get a haircut!
I’ve been to four other salons in Baltimore, none of them pleased me, even with some high-​ranking stylists. Katie knew exactly what I want and made it happen.
The ambiance is great in this little salon. Staff are cool and welcoming. I’d be more than happy to come back again.

Scene 217 was a great salon! Morgan did my cut and balayage highlights! She did such a wonderful job and even took the time to show me how to style it like the pictures I showed her! I highly recommend this salon and Morgan!

Morgan is wonderful! I get very stuck in the same ol same ol but I trust Morgan’s opinion and feel good with her doing different/​new cuts and color on me. The salon is very clean, organized, and fair pricing.

LOVE! My husband set up a surprise apt for me, and wow was this a perfect spot! From friendliness to beautiful clean salon to a 5+ star experience/​location I couldn’t ask for more. Katy cut my hair (I LOVED IT!!!), she is the BEST! I am very picky with going to a new hairstylist, she took the time to explain in detail about my new style, layers, etc… Katy took her time and made sure I was happy with the plan! I have never been so excited and pleased with a salon in my life more then my first time experience with the wonderful ladies, warm welcoming, amazing scalp massage and most of all Katy, she cut my hair SO amazing, just what I was looking for. If I could rate over 5 stars, this place would def have it! I am now excited to go back for color! Love the area that it’s in –little Italy, and my husband for finding this amazing salon :) !!

Casual, comfortable salon and experienced stylist… Katie is awesome! She does a great job on my short hair and we have fun while she’s at it. She’s easy to approach when discussing what I did or didn’t like with my previous cut or just what I might want with my next cut. And always trying to accommodate my schedule with my toddler!

Brittany was wonderful! She fixed my color mistake and made my hair pretty blonde again. The girl who shampooed my hair almost listen to sleep, it was so relaxing! Since I moved to Baltimore I haven’t found a hairdresser I could trust until now. I’m happy!

I love Scene 217 and have had Cerissa cut my hair for over a year now. I have had a number of perfect strangers stop and ask me where I get my hair done and I always direct them to Scene 217. I would highly recommend coming here. The staff is always amazing.

Katy Thank You. All the girls there were so nice greeted me as soon as I walk in the door. All I needed was a shampoo and to have my hair blow dried but the service was excellent I have extra long hair and the sent me out looking good as new. This was my first visit to Baltimore and none of the Last three Hotels I have stayed at offered hair service glad Scene 217 was conveniently located. Thanks Girls

Just because I’m used to terrible, expensive experiences in NYC doesn’t mean that this review is a product of relativity. What I mean is that Scene 217 deserves five stars in an absolute sense; one for each of the five points essential to a worthy salon experience:
1) AVAILABILITY: This isn’t one of those places that
you, doublebooking to maximize revenue or underbooking to cushion for delays in service. My friend and I, down in Baltimore at a hotel on a Saturday morning right before a wedding, both got very lucky that the stylists were able to accommodate a corrective bang trim (thanks, Mom, for thinking you could give me a DIY touch up with mini-​scissors from my Swiss Army knife) for me and a cut for my friend, who’d just gotten in at 4 a.m. off a delayed flight from Denver. So right off the bat, they had the awareness to know that we did not mind if our appointments were half an hour apart; we needed to get it done. Another place might have just said they didn’t have room for two.
2) LOCATION: In a clean, bright ground floor building in the uncongested, safe-​feeling periphery of Baltimore’s Little Italy. It was a pleasure to walk here from the SpringHill Suites Marriott in the Inner Harbor. Afterwards, we reaped the double benefits of the location, as we accidentally meandered through the jolly St. Anthony’s Feast fair in Li’l Italy, then onwards to Fells Point. No cabs necessary.
2) STYLE: It was a relief to see that everyone from the gal at the front counter to the girls sweeping up little sprigs of freshly cut hair in the back all had individualistic but professional looking hairstyles of their own. This is about more than just appearances; it signifies good and objective judgement in the styling of hair.
3) SERVICE: The smiles here are just as honest and refreshing as the tall glass of ice water they offer upon your arrival. My stylist Katie was a great conversationalist and got the bang trim done in no time. She also accommodated my request for additional trimming/​styling for an even straighter, blunter effect (which is harder than you think to convince people you WANT). And she didn’t just do what I asked of her; she made sure to provide the RESULT that I was wishing for. Minutes later, my friend’s stylist gave her a cut that made her hair look literally the best I’d EVER seen it look in our 18-​year (and counting) friendship together. I mean, her hairlooked like a wig of gossamer gold, and I mean that in a good way.
4) PRICE: $ 55 as stated for a haircut. And my #bangtrim (yes, hashtagging in case it helps someone find this place for their bangs)? «It’s on me,» Katie said. Wha-​a-​at? I gave her all the cash left in my wallet, and walked away feeling it was not enough.
Thanks to Scene 217, my bestie and I had time to see some sights and bust a gut on seafood before skipping in style to the wedding, which wasn’t ON TOP OF Edgar Allan Poe’s grave, as previously feared, but in Westminster Hall, outside which he is laid to rest in a cemetery. Feeling quite the raven, I dared to sit with him and take a photo in case the establishment sees it as a symbol of my gratitude for the perfect hair experience in an unknown town. Thanks, ladies! Maybe next time I need a haircut, I’ll use your excellence as an excuse to take a trip down to Baltimore. It might even be more economical than funding a BANG up job up here in the Big Crapple of hair horrors.

I live in Little Italy and work in the Inner Harbor and really wanted to love this salon if not for anything else but the convenience. The location of the salon is great, and the interior is cute and trendy without being intimidating. All the staff were really nice and easy to talk to as well. I have long dirty blonde hair and I typically get highlights that I like to be a bit edgy and bold. The haircut I got was fine, I didn’t want to take off much length so the stylist just trimmed a few inches off. I was really disappointed in the highlights. They didn’t match the «bold/​edgy» look I described, and the highlights at my root growth were really faint. The prices were probably on par for most higher end salons — I just wish I was happier with the result. I might give them another shot with a different stylist.
A minor inconvenience –the salon only accepts cash/​checks — no credit/​debit cards, so make sure you’re prepared!

I live around the corner from this salon. I go there every time I need a haircut/​style. I thought I would post a review from a guy’s point of view. First off, the staff is really friendly and they go out of their way to make you feel at home … service is always great and they have always made the effort to address me by name and when I sit down for my cut it is always a continuation of the previous conversation.
They take the time to get to know you and in no way do they cut corners to get you out of there quickly. My hair is difficult to cut and I have never had a bad cut here.
OK, now for the real reason everyone loves Scene 217 … one word … Tatia! She is an absolute gem. Tatia is the glue that holds this group of talented hairstylists together. She is the personable and friendly face you see when you walk into the salon, she is the pleasant young woman that offers you a cold drink, and she is the person that washes your hair and massages your scalp before your cut. She has magic fingers and frankly, I would go there just for the shampoo.
My entire family goes to this salon … my wife, 21 year old daughter, and 24 year old son are always happy with their work. The staff at Scene 217 can meet your needs regardless of age or personal style. These people are professionals with personality.
