Residence Inn Baltimore Downtown/ Inner Harbor

I write this unsolicited email about my January 2016 stay at the Residence Inn Marriott in Baltimore. My visit for a court trial was scheduled for 3 days from Wednesday through Friday in late January, and during that stay we learned the Blizzard of 2016 was going to hit Baltimore with up to 2 feet of snow beginning Friday afternoon. By Friday, when court ended, there was no use trying to get out of Baltimore with the storm hitting, so I decided to remain at the hotel for the weekend along with many other guests. Rumors swirled that most of the staff members arranged to stay at the hotel along with their families, to assure the guest services ran without interruption. Everyone was nervous about being stranded and sure enough 27 inches of snow blanketed Baltimore. The city itself was paralyzed, most businesses were shuttered. But I was pleasantly surprised to find this had no effect on the services at the hotel (I ended up staying through the next week for my court trial).
Some magical experiences unfolded that blizzard weekend. All of the snowbound guests interacted constantly with the hotel staff that weekend, and I mean from housekeeping to engineering, to the front desk, to the restaurant and bar personnel. On every trip on the elevator to the lobby or to the restaurant, you would see hotel staff with their family members or significant others, including their young kids. One of the absolute highlights was in the exercise room on Sunday. One staff member (or their husband) led his 3 elementary school kids in an organized exercise routine while I worked out on the elliptical. It was absolutely priceless.
I have stayed in 3 to 5 star hotels both in the USA and internationally and I can say that I highly recommend this well-​managed hotel. Management and staff created a fantastic sense of camaraderie in a hotel located just a few blocks from the inner harbor on Baltimore. If you don’t require a direct waterfront view or a balcony, and want a spacious room in a well-​run hotel, this is a great spot.

Dark and dingy. I was a little disappointed with this property in terms of comfort and ambience. There is a pungent smell that will hit you as soon as you enter the hotel. The best part of the hotel was its location. Just a few blocks from inner harbor making it a good cheaper alternate to the harbor side hotels. Breakfast was just ok.

The biggest problem with this hotel is the ridiculous price for a Residence Inn… but the free breakfast was quite good the location is downtown and the rooms were entice and clean. I would stay here again but would like to stay for less then $ 300 a night. After the over priced food and the exorbitant pet fee it turned into a $ 500 stay.

My stay here was brief, but they made a good impression. Points for having a very friendly, accommodating, and helpful staff, that made sure everything was set up as needed. Points for a nice view outside as well. Minus points for the area in Baltimore… which isn’t their fault, but hey, it’s Baltimore. Shortly after I was there the city was on fire. Some pretty sketchy alleyways were taken from the airport shuttle driver to the hotel. The room was very nice but had some wear and tear. Overall a solid stay.

I love this hotel. Perfect location… walkable to many great restaurants, waterfront and Federal Hill (lots of great bars in this area). Great views from the room I was in. Amazing staff who is willing to go the extra mile to ensure you feel like a guest in their own home. And most importantly, it was CLEAN!!! Wouldn’t stay anywhere else if I ever make it back to Baltimore.

I stayed at this hotel for one night. When I checked, the process was quick since I reserve a room by using the Marriott app. The overall room was great. The room was pretty big. The room was very clean. I was happy to see that they offer 3 HBO channels along with other major channels such as ESPN or CNN. I am very glad it was a smoke free hotel. The breakfast buffet was delicious!!! The room looked very clean. I was completely suprised when one of the employee took my empty plate without me asking. I absolutely appreciate it.

I came to the hotel for Otakon 2015 at the Convention Center a few blocks away. My group stayed in one of the corner suites. It was very spacious, organized, soundproof and it even came with Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner!
Our group needed items at odd hours and the hotel staff always delivered extra towels, blankets, etc. within 5 minutes. We were in the 11^th floor.
The free breakfast had a HUGE variety of food! As a vegetarian I really appreciated the large selection of fresh fruits.
My favorite part of this place? The staff. They were genuinely friendly, not just professionally polite. Everyone I met — from the bellhop to the manager — would offer a smile and keep up a happy conversation.
I had the pleasure of staying late for breakfast and watching the manager brief the maids for the day. He treated all his employees with respect, friendliness and dignity and called them all by first name. The cleaning staff seemed very comfortable with him. I found out that he started this hotel 10 years ago and has a passion for his business.
The front desk woman went out if her way to help me with some laundry issues. She even sent a runner to the laundry room with some soap when I forgot mine downstairs.
Rarely have I experienced such great customer service and staff in a hotel. This place has a very homey feel to it because of the people. For that alone the experience is worth it. My roommates and I all agree and we choose this hotel every year.
Absolutely recommend to anyone.

The Residence Inn is a perfectly decent hotel: small and clean lobby, decent sized suites, competent room service and efficient bell boys. It’s a cookie cutter Marriott, but with a vey filling breakfast buffet. Gotta love Americans and their hearty appetites.
I spent three nights here while attending a conference, and I definitely appreciated the proximity to the convention centre, inner harbour, fells point etc. Baltimore can be super sketchy so I am especially thankful for the safe location.
My stay here was unremarkable except for their good coffee in the lobby which my friends commented favourably on.

This is for the staff at the Residence Inn. I arrived right before the riot on ⁴⁄₂₇. I was unaware of the situation until I checked in and turned on the news on TV. After getting a call from my company to reschedule the meeting and leave the city, I approached the front desk expecting to pay for the day stay. To my surprise and delight the front desk staff said we understand and there will be no charge for the stay.
Kudos to the staff and management for this act. Really good to know that there are times when businesses and people recognize a special situation and act accordingly. I have a whole different view of the staff at this particular establishment and of Residence Inn in general.
Really well done. I will look forward to coming back.

Me & my boo boo stayed here for 2 nights. Or stay in BMore was okay. The only bright spots was the restaurant & this hotel. Before coming the front staff was very knowledgeable & friendly. One person in particular Steve. I believe he is not here full time. But he knows his stuff. Very helpful we are from Philly. The room was clean only knock I’ll say is the when I turned off the heat to cool the room it took along time. Other then that Perfect. If we come to Baltimore this place will be it!
FYI Pick the high floor!

My parents receive medical services from Johns Hopkins, but they live just outside Washington, DC. Whenever they’re going in for medical services, they get a room at the Residence Inn because it’s so close in proximity to the hospital campus. Not only that, they have a small dog that they’re very attached to and the Residence Inn is pet-​friendly (for a $ 100 fee).
The rooms are always clean and well-​appointed. They are equipped with kitchenettes and flat-​screen TVs that have three HBO channels, which is wonderful. Not only that, a buffet breakfast is included in the room price. It includes scrambled eggs, breakfast meat, potatoes, fruit, cereal, bread/​pastries, Belgian waffles, and delicious coffee with International Delight flavored creamer (which is always available throughout the day at a station in the lobby). There’s also valet parking, a lounge area, and a 24-​hour limited selection convenience bar that features things like beer, wine, snacks, frozen entrees, sundries/​toiletries, and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream (!!).
The lobby also features a restaurant (17 Light) that has a full bar, and delicious food — most of it is seafood, so if you don’t eat that you won’t be too impressed with the menu. The hotel is also right next door to a Dunkin Donuts and a CVS, plus there’s a 7 – 11 across the street and a Royal Farms, which sells the best fried chicken (in case you weren’t aware). It’s also in walking distance of the Inner Harbor (shops and restaurants and museums), and is only a 7 – 10 min drive to Baltimore Penn Station where you can catch Amtrak.
Recently my dad had an extended hospital stay at Hopkins and my mother and I stayed at the hotel with our dog. Our stay was wonderful as usual. The staff of the hotel is really nice and accommodating. In particular, there’s a woman named Chasity who works there who is simply amazing. She has taken such good care of my parents over the years, is always in such a great mood, and is just all-​around a pleasure to work with. There’s never anything we’ve asked of her that she hasn’t done (within reason!). Several other members of the staff from housekeepers to valets are just a delight. They work hard to anticipate your needs and deliver before you even have to ask. But then they’re just super-​accommodating to ensure your stay is a good one.
My parents will probably never go to another hotel in Baltimore ever again and now that I’ve spent a significant amount of time there, I don’t blame them! As long as Chasity is there, I know for sure we’ll keep coming back. Thanks for making us feel so comfortable in the midst of a difficult time.

Stayed here a few months back and have nothing except for nice things to say about The Residence Inn Baltimore Downtown /​Inner Harbor.
The location is ideal for anyone wanting to explore the Inner Harbor or even get to the stadiums.
Our room was beautiful and spacious. The staff was accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was good with a lot of different options. I liked the little market area because it allowed me to sneak down late at night for some ice cream!
I would recommend this hotel to anyone and if I am ever in Baltimore again, this will be my first choice for a hotel.

My favorite hotel in Baltimore — good rate, close to convention center, convenient stores nearby, friendly staff, free full breakfast and bar restaurant if you don’t feel Ike headin out — And if you’re lucky — get the 2 room suite

This was our 3^rd time at the this hotel, and we still like it. The staff is very friendly and the place is clean and welcoming. Their suites fits our family of five perfectly, and the kids have a blast at the breakfast buffet. As a side note they allow pets to stay. However, the interior is getting a little worn and could use an update, and the madras in our beds were too soft for our liking.

I stayed here for an extremely stressful couple of nights and was very comfortable. The hotel staff was nothing short of wonderful, even with all their stressed out customers. The room was beautiful, huge, and clean. I got two queen beds with a kitchenette and oh Lordy was that lovely. There was a full sized fridge, a half sized stovetop, a dishwasher, sink, and cabinets full of everything you could need to cook up dinner and eat it.
When I checked in, I asked for a wake up call. Although she said no problem, I think she may not have heard me fully: you have to set up the wake up calls through the phone in your room, so they’re fully automatic. It worked out fine because I brought several other alarms to be safe.
The bed and pillows were comfortable but I did call and ask for another blanket. The blanket was brought up in less than five minutes. I didn’t watch the television but I did use the wifi, which worked fine for Facetime calls. Cell reception was likewise acceptable.
It is VALET PARKING ONLY. I parked out of the city and took the light rail in so I wouldn’t have to pay for the parking. If you can do that, it’s totally worth it. When I checked out, I was able to leave my luggage in a locked room behind the front desk to pick up after the day was complete, which worked beautifully.
I am absolutely staying here again the next time I have something going on in the Inner Harbor.

Very rude front desk clerk named Bill HOWEVER the hotel overall isn’t bad. Valet can be a bit too busy since they only have room for about 4 cars coming in and out. The location is great for getting around the Inner Harbor area too.
As for the room though… it was very clean and large. Unfortunately it’s a bit outdated and features a good amount of tacky furniture and art.
Since the price is phenominal though I’d definitely return.

Baltimore Running Festival — Perfect Race Location for Half-​Marathon.
Spent two nights here for the 2013 Baltimore Running Festival — ran the half-​marathon. For the race, the Half Marathon, the hotel location is PERFECT (the start line is less than a 2 minute walk). For the full marathon and from the finish line area, it is about a .75 mile walk (took about 12min to walk back to the hotel. I cannot speak high enough of this hotel (as described below):
STAFF: The front desk staff on Friday the 11^th unfortunately was not wearing name tags, otherwise I would have mentioned her by name — but, she was very customer service oriented, check-​in was quick and I was offered my room, early, without even a hesitation.
HOUSEKEEPING: Again, perfect. I asked for extra towels — and got them immediately. Room upkeep was perfect and timely. The only shortfall was a 11:51pm wake-​up with a knock at the door with a night housekeeper with 2 rolls of TP — -I was dead asleep… but, the knocking persisted… got a good laugh out of it in the morning… just worth mentioning that the night staff needs to triple-​check room numbers before knocking on doors that late (plus, after the 2^nd knock, if I was expecting TP, I would have answered after the 1^st knock… lol).
BREAKFAST: Hotel was sold-​out for both days I was in the property (marathon, convention and Green Bay vs. Raven game) and they easily kept up with the morning demand. And, as a plus, there is soda available in the morning (wish more hotels did that). Plentiful hot items available.
PARKING: OK — see my picture below — and I hate to ruin the $ 32/​day fee the hotel charges, BUT, park across the street (directly south of the 7-​Eleven) at the 25 Charles St garage (yes, the entrance is off of Light St) — — - the weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun) fee is only $ 10/​day (yes — only $ 10 day). My picture has the parking fees. Even during the work-​week, the fee is only $ 20/​day — so, still a substantial savings. The valets are extremely friendly (all of them I engaged during my visit) — while not Marriott employees, they definately extended a customer service level that most valets do not. So, for my entire weekend — I spent $ 30 for parking — — no in-​n-​out, but, it didn’t matter… you don’t need a car in downtown Baltimore… you can walk everywhere.
ROOM: I was in Room 1503, with a nice north view. 2 Queen studio and as the pictures reveal, the room was huge. Room is well maintained, everything worked, plenty of space (with the exception of the bathroom — -but, still do-​able). HVAC worked perfectly — plenty of AC. Kitchen was well appointed and we utilized the appliances on several occasions. Beds were extremely comfortable.
INTERNET: It’s free! Not that fast — but, fast enough.
ELEVATORS: OK — it’s an older building — and only has –2– elevators — but, we never really ever had to wait for a ride.
17 Light St Bar: Very friendly bar on the ground floor — resonable «hotel» prices.
MARKETPLACE: OK, again, I hate to ruin the «money-​making-​marketplace» — but, there is a 7-​Eleven literally directly across the street — and the 7-​Eleven prices are a bargin, compared to the hotel prices (yes, I said that 7-​eleven was a bargin… bet you never heard that before). There is also a CVS and a Royal Farms less than a 1 minute walk from the hotel. Also, McDonalds is 1 min away as well (but, that McDonalds is over-​run with transients).
We were extremely happy with our stay, and this will be my home-​away-​from-​home on all trips to Baltimore. Room rates are extremely competitive (and a value) for such a central Downtown location. Throw in the 2 free newspapers (USA Today and WSJ), free breakfast and free wi-​fi and the roomy suites — and you just cannot beat this property

For the price of a regular hotel, you can get a kitchen (apartment style) and some meals at no additional cost (breakfast and two dinners). The food provided is low quality food, but one can pick around for whole foods. The staff is less than stellar, but everything seems to run smooth enough, as expected.
The gym has dumbbells, two benches, and cardio machines only.

Looks at this fancy room with a kitchen and everything! Ok it’s not really that fancy. But it was nice enough, and probably more than we really needed. We only stayed one night whereas these kind of rooms are built for people staying longer periods. This would totally be a great place to stay for someone staying a week in Baltimore. Also they are pet friendly!
The breakfast was so horrible. Don’t even bother. Especially if there is a line. Dunkin Donuts coffee is right next door.
Also I had flashbacks to college days waiting for an elevator for like 10 minutes.

Such a good experience. I think that was a newer renovation, and they did a great job with it… it does not have the older Residence Inn vibe that I have experienced elsewhere.
Light 17 in the building was a cute and yummy restaurant with great service. Everyone at the hotel had great customer service skills as well.
Great location, easy to walk anywhere in the Inner Harbor. Highly recommended. We will be back!
