Mend Community Acupuncture

I love this place! It’s conveniently located, and it’s cozy. I love the décor inside, really cute and calming space. I’ve been to other community acupuncture place, and I like it here better because I feel like the staff here really care about you, and you don’t have a set time — if you’re dozing off, they will let you. It’s a small place so I try not to stay too long but I like how they edit for you to wake up and talk to you, then remove the needles. Other place was a bit more rude, they would wake you up after 20 – 30 mins. This is a community room, but you can also make appointment for a private session around the corner. And if it’s birthday month, you get discount that whole month!

Amazing acupuncture. I went to Seeds before they merged, but they are still outstanding. I’ve seen both Kim and Sarah and both are so warm and friendly. I always leave feel rejuvenated. Just recently went for a cold and came out feeling a million percent better. Great about working with insurance.

Visited Mend via a purchased Groupon for my very first poke *snicker* at acupuncture. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. They explained what community acupuncture was when I advised them it was my first time and had me fill out a questionnaire with my health history and concerns. Mend is located in a really tiny, narrow house in Hampden and you will miss the entrance if you aren’t really looking closely and traveling by foot. Just to help you out, it’s on the same side as Café Hon and across from Alchemy. There’s no separate lot or anything so plan time for the parking spot shuffle prior to your appointment.
As stated, it’s a really tiny, narrow setup inside and when you enter the treatment area, you’ll notice the treatment recliners are really close together. I knew what to expect walking into it per the website but it still caught me off guard. Nonetheless my first experience was comfortable and my treatment specialists were gentle in nature. My only complaint is that although the tools used are brand new and sanitary, the recliners were not. The seats in my section were cream leather and looked very worn (the front section had the newer, black leather seats). I took a wipe to wipe down the provided cushion to rest your feet on and came back with some dirt. DEFINITE turn off because that means the seats hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned in a while.
Other than that, everything was okay and when I offered a tip to my treatment person after, they adamantly refused stating it went against their values which I thought was pretty cool, especially since I was pretty insistent.
Not a bad place for the community structure but the small space and unclean seating areas rendered this a one time visit for me.

Mend has been my go-​to place for all things health and wellness. Not only do they help me keep my physical body healthy (if you feel a cold coming on hurry up and go visit them! Most times it nips it in the bud), but they do a great job treating mental health issues (like anxiety, depression, worry, need for grounding, etc). You name it, they can help!

Mend offers the best, most seamless method of delivering acupuncture. It’s always a pleasure escaping to their serene studio!

I see Sarah at her practice at Seeds and I LOVE that I can come see her at Mend if I can’t get an appointment at the other place. I’ve been to Mend twice now. I see the same folks there that I see at Seeds but at a much more affordable price point and it’s cool to vary it up once in a while. She does not skim on her time with you just because it is in a community setting. Sarah is truly a great practitioner.
I go to Mend when it’s not too crowded so that I can still get some privacy in this setting. The chairs are comfy and the noise machine/​soothing music does the trick.
I’ve been to other community settings that did not work for me but was pleasantly surprised to see that this setup can work for me.

Very relaxing and comfortable atmosphere for my first time receiving acupuncture. Quiet and easy to relax, even though you are sharing a room with others. And it’s affordable. Will definitely be returning to Mend.

I agree with most of the positive things other reviewers have said, and all of the practitioners I have seen have been good. I have a problem, though, with how Mend handles its appointments. The reason one makes an appointment is to know when an event will occur, and to be able to schedule the rest of one’s life around it. On 3 of the 6 times I’ve scheduled a visit, I’ve had to wait at least 15 minutes. The last time I went in for my appointment, I was told it would be 30 minutes later than I had scheduled. That’s just not how you run a practice based on allotted time periods. Maybe Mend has been too successful? Maybe they haven’t figured out how to accommodate both appointments and walk-​ins? If they could just get their timing straightened out, I’d be a very positive reviewer.

This is such great place. I enjoy coming here every week, and come out feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, with a clear mind. I see Michael, who is amazing and really a master of his craft. He has helped fix many problems (digestion, carpal tunnel, etc.) and has improved my overall health with a holistic, whole body approach. Even with the community aspect of the practice, you still get one-​on-​one attention, and everybody is so «in their own zone» that you hardly realize anyone else is there. And at only $ 25 a visit, it makes acupuncture affordable for anyone, without the hassle of having to go through your health insurance and all of that paperwork. Highly recommended!!!

Love, Love, Love this place. I was initially skeptical of acupuncture in the first place, but after discovering that acupuncture was the only thing that helped relieve a pinched nerve in my neck, I was hooked, but could not afford to go to a private practice. A friend told me about community acupuncture, and although I thought I would find it weird to be in a room with others, it’s really fine and once the needles are in I go into such a peaceful, trance-​like state of relaxation, I’m not even aware of the other people. I don’t know why it works, but it does, and the staff and setting are wonderful. If you are a first-​timer I highly, highly recommend getting an appointment with Sarah or Kristi — they are so nurturing and gentle. I would give this place 10 stars if I could.

I came to Mend and acupuncture in general due to insomnia and a well timed Living Social deal. I was at a point where I figured nothing would hurt and I only had a good night’s sleep to gain so what the heck. I forgot the amount of the deal, but it was for 3 visits and the price point was such that if I went once and hated it, I wouldn’t feel like I’d wasted too much money. On to the reveiw:
The location is perfect, right on 36^th in Hampden. I can always find street parking if not on the same block then just one block down. As a city dweller, I prefer to frequent city businesses so that’s a plus in my book for Mend. There are several other ‘operational’ things about the place that I like. First, they take walk ins. My life is such that its really hard for me to plan ahead and book these kind of ‘taking care of me’ things. Manicures, haircuts, etc. all fall into the same category. I’ve been to Mend 4 times now (that means I paid past my initial LS investment!), and each time I did make an appointment, but it was for the same day. I love that flexibility. The second operational thing that I love about Mend is that they have evening hours. This helps me tremendously bc I have a 9 – 5 and it isn’t easy to get away for over an hour in the middle of the day. Third, bc it is community acupuncture, (you are in a room with 2 – 3 other people) the price point is perfect.
Now, depending on your preference, that last point could be a negative. I don’t mind sitting in a room with strangers while I receive an acupuncture treatment, but if you like privacy, then you aren’t going to like this aspect. Each time I’ve been everyone has been very discreet though. People aren’t sitting there staring at you or minding your business or anything. Also everyone has been respectful of the ‘peace’ aspect of the room and noone really makes much sound.
When you get seating in the comfortable reclining seats, you wait (sometimes for a few minutes if there is a rush of people all at once) for the acupuncturist to come over. The first visit you complete a health history which they will review with you and formulate a treatment plan accordingly. Visits after that, they will introduce themselves and then check your file and then come back to check in to see if you are still working on the same thing. They also take your pulse in sevaral places and I had 2 different people ask me if I was having the same issue based on those pulse readings. As it were, I was suffering from that issue, which was not what brought me in, and they placed a few pins to address that as well.
Another thing that I don’t mind, but others may is that I’ve been 4 times and seen 4 different people. Granted, you do have the ability to schedule appointments online so if there is a person you like, you can stick with them. I’m not so organized though!
The place has always been very clean, quiet and smells like lavender. The acupuncturists always go out to wash their hands before placing the needles.

From the entrance and waiting area to the acupuncture this place is wonderful. I was afraid I would find the community aspect distracting, but everyone there was so nice and it was relaxing to be in a room with all six people participating in the same peaceful experience. Great energy.
Michael was my acupuncturist. He listened carefully to why I had come in, seemed legitimately concerned with helping me get better and was very sweet about making sure nothing hurt when inserting the needles.
I already have my next appointment scheduled!

I didn’t think I’d like community acupuncture. I’ve had acupuncture before but it’s always been in a very private one on one way with an extensive assessment (and a much higher price tag). This was a very quick, what’s the bottom line of your issues approach. The intake took less than 5 minutes. Nonetheless, it was very effective and healing. And so affordable! I’m a grad student on a student budget and am so happy that acupuncture is still accessible to me. I walked in so stressed out that I felt nauseous. I left relaxed and clear. I also liked the community aspect of it– people sharing the same peaceful vibe. I made another appointment for Monday.

I absolutely LOVE Mend. I had always done acupuncture in an office setting and was very excited to try the community atmosphere. It is wonderful. There is such calmness when you walk in the door. Everyone is absolutely wonderful and have such a calming effect. They have increased their hours which is awesome and acccommodating for just about everyone. The cost is affordable and the benefits you receive are top notch. Give them a try — you will not be disappointed.

Ok… I’ve never done this and honestly had no idea what to expect. Would it hurt… would I get sick, could I do it right etc. I made an appt online and when the time came for my appt, i hoped that nothing irrevocable happened. I cant remember her name (which is poor b/​c i’m there every week) but she was super nice and has a gentle way about her. She asked me some questions took my «pulse?» And stuck me with some needles. They did not hurt. I assumed that I would fall asleep like the others in the room… but I stayed awake and worried that I was doing it wrong. At the end of my session, she asked me how i felt and I said ok, but I didnt sleep. She told me there is no wrong way and explained that I should come back. Well after 6 wks I can honestly say that I feel better and I am hooked.

The décor instantly made me feel at ease and Sarah was wonderful. I hope this helps with my headaches! I’m going back again…

I was a complete skeptic about acupuncture when I started, but I tried it because I really felt I had little to lose. I’m now free of the allergy symptoms and off all of the allergy medications that I had sworn were my fate. If you don’t believe me, go see the folks at Mend. Community acupuncture is not free, but it is cost-​effective because– as others are pointing out– you’re seen alongside others. But this place is set up in such a calming and comforting way that I didn’t really notice even while sitting right next to others. But this office is also super well-​organized and very professional. I’m absolutely thrilled to have found it.

I visited as a first time acupuncture initiate. Came in the door with major back pains stemming from an ill advised break dancing attempt. I had some idea of how acupuncture works but wasn’t sure if back pain was a candidate for this kind of treatment.
The practitioners are incredible! Very knowledgeable and interested in your story. Really provided intimate care even in the community treatment setting (multiple chairs in the room, but actually so cool and preferable to the cold isolation of a doctor’s examination room).
The whole appointment lasted less than an hour in and out the door. Painless (needles are really just a mild pinch if that) and restful (after needles are established, you close your eyes for app. 30 minutes and let the treatment work!).
And I spent my first night pain free in over a month. Going back today for a second treatment. I highly recommend this form of healing!!!

My first ever non-​restaurant review yay, thanks to Michelle’s review, i decided to try this place. I have never ever done acupuncture before, but with my spate of recent freak injuries that has taken longer to heal, i decided to give this a shot. The place is located in Hampden right next to Café Hon, it is a community acupuncture setting with some very comfortable chairs in two rooms. Sarah who was my acupuncturist was extremely cordial and Professional. The session in on itself was very relaxing, and you can feel your body undergoing different sensations and transfer of energy. I am sold. I will schedule several sessions to observe the benefits of acupuncture. If you are on the fence, i suggest you get off, and go to Mend Community Acupuncture.

I am absolutely in love with this place and I am so excited that Hampden can boast its own community acupuncture clinic. If you ask me it’s exactly what the Avenue needed.
I’d never done acupuncture before so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but I figured since it was free I may as well give it a go. It is a community clinic which means there are no private rooms; instead there are two spacious and comfortable large rooms with a chair in each corner. If you’re squeamish about letting other people see you when you look like Hellraiser then you may want to look elsewhere but they only ask you to roll up your pant-​legs to your knees and shirts to the elbows so modesty isn’t an issue.
The practitioners bounce around from client-​to-​client so sometimes there’s a bit of a wait before they get to you but once they do they pay attention to you and nothing else. They’re incredibly professional, calming, and focused and I felt no pain when the needles were inserted. I ended up falling asleep for the majority of my appointment and when I left I felt rejuvenated and relaxed in a way that’s usually reserved for post-​massages.
They accept walk-​ins but I would recommend using their super simple online booking tool to ensure you can get a chair for the time you prefer. Ever since my first appointment I’ve been telling everyone I possibly can to pay Mend a visit so don’t hesitate to go!
