Marc Train Service

I use this service everyday. Its reliable 85% of the time. When breakdowns occur information is scarce and «need to know.» Amtrak has priority on these rail lines and there’s nothing that can be changed about that but it often comes with delays.
The number one thing MARC can do to increase satisfaction is add more service and upgrade the cars faster. Also a way to filter out the burning brake smell would be most welcome.

Bottom Line: An efficient and relaxing means to travel between Baltimore and DC.
The MARC Train Service is an awesome answer for commuters going between Baltimore and DC. There are several stops along the Penn Line so commuters can also jump aboard at places like Halethrope, BWI, Odenton and Bowie. There is the regular train and the express train which has less stops.
The train is peaceful and for an extra relaxing experience, passengers can unwind in the «Quiet Car» where no audible cell phone use is permitted. It’s a great place to surf the net on your phone or take a little siesta.
The MARC terminates at Union Station and from there you can walk, cab it, UBER it or take the Metro to your final destination.

Marc is a good service if you want to get from DC tonBaltimore and vice versa. For a under $ 10 you can’t really beat it.
The seats are pretty comfortable. It’s great to just curl up with a book or your Kindle sit back and relax. Also you never know who you just might meet. I randomly met Christopher Walken and have been in love with the MARC ever since.
The Union Station to Penn Station is super convenient. Since Baltimore is public transportation is kind of dodgy. Your destination is destination is just an UBer ride away.

I took the Marc train yesterday for the first time in about three years for a day trip to Washington, D.C. I have used the Marc train in the past as it is one of the most economical options for travel to D.C. from Baltimore. I took the Penn Line Marc train from Baltimore Penn Station to Union Station in D.C., and I arrived there in about an hour. My train was on time and the ride was quiet and peaceful.
I also found out that there is now Marc train service on the weekends. My heart sings a song of joy! Now I can get to D.C. without driving at an affordable rate on the weekends. I picked up a Marc train schedule while in Penn Station and was pleasantly surprised that Marc train service is now available on the weekends. I will have to provide a review on the Marc train weekend service once I take advantage of it.
For anyone looking for an affordable travel option between D.C. and Baltimore, I would highly recommend the Marc train. It appears that the weekday service is still as reliable as it was when I was riding over three years ago.

The train now runs on the weekends! It takes an hour to get from Baltimore (penn station) to DC (union station) and costs $ 7. You can find the wknd schedule here
You can buy tickets at the amtrak counter, the electronic ticket machines in front of the amtrak counter, or on the train. If you purchase on the train, add a surcharge of $ 3.
Every time I have taken this line (penn line) it has been exactly on time. They typically announce the platform number 10 – 15 min before the train arrival time.
Overall this train is reliable, cheap, and a great way to get to DC on the weekends!

This review is specifically for the Penn line, which I have been taking to DC most weekdays for going on 2 years. I currently rate it 4 stars and plan to update my review when they add weekend service. Having used several rail systems, the MARC gets a high rating for its reliability. I have always made it home. And in all that time I have experienced major delays only a few memorable times.

Good service but why don’t the trains run on the weekend? People still use the train on the weekend! Hello!!!

The MARC has great service to Baltimore and DC when you don’f feel like being bothered with traffic. Please do not take the train when it is pouring rain and storming! There will be significant delays, I speak from experience.

Good way to get from Baltimore to DC fast. Well, Candam Line train from downtown get to Union in the same amount of time. Oh well.
