In-Shape: Bakersfield White Lane

Has anyone read this discloser they make you sign to get a membership?
The rep told me i had to sign a release that basically releases ISHC from any legal repercussions in case i got hurt. I figured «yea you play with fire you might get burned» The ISHC rep wouldn’t show me the document very casual like he said he would just email it to me and asked me to conclude the contract. I later read the release and found out that basically as soon as i enter the building ISHC is not responsible for anything that happens to me or my children. The release also explained that even if ISHC staff negligence ends up KILLIG one of my children, I am not to pursued any legal route or try anything against ISHC.
Then this happens to you if you are to make a mistake:
You are to (indemnify) in other words you will pay any legal crap they throw at you. If you break something, hurt staff or members in any way or form you are to INDEMNIFY ISHC for it. How dumb do they think we are? Just because of a little technical word people won’t care and sign, or I bet they are hoping we don’t read the ridiculous document and get suckered into their contract.
My experience trying to get a membership was terrible, the thought that they can hurt my child
negligently or otherwise even if she ends up DEAD while I exercise is not exactly what I had in mine for relaxing.

Been a member Here since the very beginning .been a long time .it’s a nice gym has everything u need .free weights. machines …cycling…pool.spa.steamroom…sauna… it can get pretty impacted depending on the time u go but what gym doesn’t …my only complaint is they need to have more spray desinfectant and wipe down towels handy…

Been coming to this gym for some time now. If you are looking for a gym membership in the South West area, don’t hesitate. It’s a great gym, in shape does a real good job keeping the gym clean in all locations as a matter in fact.
In shape has everything you need, cardio machines, free weights, weight machines, crossfit room, bicycle room, even a little room just to work on your abs. They have a lot of tvs in the cardio section, they recently remodeled that area, looks awesome. They also have a cardio section on the second floor more secluded for the ladies.
The staff seems very nice with positive attitude. As soon you walk in the door you get greeted and welcomed with a smile. If you ask the trainers a question they will be more than happy to answer any questions you have. I enjoy coming down here, I’ll recommend this gym to anyone!

Best environment ever!!! Love this gym because it makes me want to better myself by been healthy and shaping my body too. The team is the best and it shows that they want the best for you! The manager Angelyn helped me a lot on staying positive by having a healthy life style. Now I have a trainer and seriously can’t wait for more results So If you guys don’t have in shape how will you guys shape your life.

I visited with my sister who is not a member in hopes to have her check out the gym on a free trial basis I have received a couple via mail before in which I have never used. My sister just had a baby and was eager to find a gym that would suit her needs. I assumed it would be a speedy process of her giving her ID and going on to work out (thats how I got my membership). But instead we were greeted by a man who told us the process of checking out the gym for 1 night would take 30 – 45 minutes I was very upset and confused by this because we hadn’t planned on being there for 2 hours (with work out and all) I was then greeted by a manager named Angelynna who rudely told us this was a mandatory process and obviously wasn’t empathetic my sister has a 3 month old at home. After 20 minutes of conversing about this protocall finally said we can take your ID and go work out. We were both so upset we just left. The customer service is awful paying as much as I do monthly for a membership & getting treated in this way is surprising. Customer service is key I will be cancelling my membership.

This location is always, Always out of towels. What is the point of having towel service if it’s never available?

After leaving my local YMCA in Phoenix, I feared I would not find a comparable fitness complex in Bakersfield. First of all, I am a Zumba-​addict. Secondly, I have a four year old. So I needed something that could accommodate those needs as well. I read many mixed reviews about In-​Shape before deciding to give it a try and I’m so glad that I did. The customer service was always on point, the child care center and hours available were excellent, and the Zumba instructors were beyond amazing! My two favorite were Caroline and Aida.
To add to this rave review, my fiancé was suddenly relocated for work, and I feared my annual membership that I had signed up for only a couple months ago would be a hassle to cancel. To my surprise, all it took was a single quick phone call to the corporate office and a really pleasant conversation with a customer service rep.
Now I am just downright sad to be leaving such an outstanding service driven gym and the most excellent Zumba classes I have ever participated in. I pray In-​Shape decides to expand to Salem, Oregon in the future. They can count on me to be their personal brand ambassador 100%!

It’s extremely sad to witness, on multiple occasions, how poor their customer service is. Truly disappointed with the way problems are received and handled by their staff. Front desk help to management is beyond embarrassing and of no help. Loyal customers are not met with proper communication, respect of their membership nor personal belongings.

After being a loyal customer for 8 years I decided to leave this place, Management is is just ignorant! I called corporate to explain the situation and they just offered credits, no apologies for being mistreated by an assistant manager that had no idea how to handle an upset customer much less run a gym. It’s been 6 months and I keep getting please come back letters from corporate, maybe if I get a written apology from this assistant idiot maybe just maybe I will.

Wasn’t sure what to expect from this location. I’m not very familiar with what each level stands for but all I know is this is a Gold Level gym.
Much like the other In-​Shapes in town, the entrance is open and you are greeted by a nice person who scans your pass. There is a juice bar right behind the main desk just like at the coffee location. There is seating in the middle of the building where you can chat and relax. It is a two story location, like the others, where the 2^nd floor has TRX, the 29 minute circuit, and I guess a women’s section.
There was a section that I had never seen in other In-​Shapes. There was an area that had measurements on the wall to see how high you can throw a medicine ball, the «ladder» drawn on the floor, and some other things. I really enjoyed this section, just wish I used it more. The janitorial staff does a great job of keeping everything sanitary. I just wish they changed the wiping cloth out more often. As I was leaving I noticed there was a VIP section area. I assume that’s where they do their tanning and things. Not exactly sure.
Only reason I came to this location was because my sister has training here. Since it’s far from where I live I probably won’t be coming to this location often, though it is a nice location.

Friendly atmosphere many classes to choose from lots of regulars which is some what motivating you come work out then chat with you friends in the sauna lol

I recently had a fitness assessment with Rob at the In Shape gym on White Lane. I want to say that he was awesome!!! Anyone interested in having a fitness assessment should definitely make an appointment with Rob. Not only was he very professional, but after seeing him and hearing him speak, he clearly lives the lifestyle that he promotes. He gave me an overview on how to eat and showed me what exercises to do in order to reach my goals. Rob made me feel very comfortable with all of my questions. I highly recommend Rob because he brings so much experience to what he does. If you see this guy, it’s obvious that he practices what he preaches!:-)

Nice front desk girls. Abigail was really nice and friendly, she helped me out with getting a VIP membership.

Pros: I like the equipment and employees at this gym. Usually not too crowded. Has a lap pool.
Cons: Hours on weekends are limited. Very unsanitary. They don’t offer towel service for free – so most people sweat all over and don’t have anything to wipe it off with. On top of that… their sanitation method is to leave nasty, germ infested rags lying around and expect people to wipe equipment with them. I wouldn’t touch the rags with a pole, let alone wipe a machine down to «clean it». They need to install disinfectant wipe stations and offer free towels so the gym isn’t absolutely disgusting.

I love this gym! Kevin is an awesome manager! He gives the best customer service. There’s plenty of machines to use. I never have to worry about them not having something open for me. It’s very clean. And my favorite part of the gym is the indoor pool!

Great clean gym. Friendly service. The gym feels like an up scaled LA gym. The juice bar is always a plus!!!

It’s not as nice as the other locations; However, I enjoy coming here because I have my laughs at the expense of some of the clientele; just like random stuff, one time this guy was in full on 80s workout gear, with his short basketball shorts, a headband and wrist bands & to tie the look together, he was listening to music on his CD player.

The pool is always dirty. It’s been like that for over a year — so cloudy you can’t see the bottom. Even the instructors won’t get in the water.
Some of the people that go there look and act pretty shady. I’ve had family quit because of the type of people that frequent this location. Lots of disrespect for the rules and lacking in common courtesy and hygiene.
The classes lack variety. They stick to the latest fads. All of the classes I like have slowly been cancelled, and while they weren’t so packed you needed to wait in line and get a stamp (who has time for that?!!) they were far from empty.
Waiting out my membership to expire and them I’m out.

They are making improvements to the gym overall which is why I gave them 2… Other than that they need more staff in the kids center I stopped coming to this one because it would be at least a 20 min wait to check in my kiddos. I thought I would try it again since its a little closer to us, but same result so off to a different location we go

The facility itself is nice, but unfortunately both the people that workout here and the people that work here are NOT first class peeps (to say the least).
There used to be an upstairs section that was a «Women’s area» but they did away with that a long time ago. So now guys come grab weights from the rack upstairs and take it elsewhere. Weights tend to be scattered everywhere due to ghetto ass people not returning them. I overhear the workers giving tours saying that they have people do rounds to return weights in their proper places, but I’ve only seen them do rounds when there are tours taking place.
Fitness classes offered: they have quite a few classes offered but tend to get pretty packed. The most popular one is perhaps ZUMBA with MIKE (THE BEST ZUMBA INSTRUCTOR IN BAKERSFIELD). The ripped class is also awesome. Some classes require a stamp for entry b/​c they have a occupancy limit (so get there early and line up).
Sauna, Steamroom, Pool area: I love the sauna, but depending on when you go, it can get pretty packed. The steamroom sometimes feels like a breeding ground for MRSA or other infections. And yes – the pool is filthy at times. I often see little kids in there and we all know what that means. haha.
Locker-​rooms: the female locker rooms have 2 rooms for changing, but people often claim it while they are showering by putting their stuff in it, closing the door, and then showering. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve opened a door with someone else’s stuff in it. I swear one of these days I’m gonna just take their shit and move it to teach them a lesson. For some reason, they now also have «Reserved» lockers you can rent for «as low as $ 10.» So now it’s a little more difficult finding a top locker, but that’s not really a big deal.
Trainers: the trainers have a lot of free time and are often talking amongst themselves and/​or checking girls out. Once in a while they will approach someone randomly while working out or after a workout class. I’ve noticed that they are more attentive with the attractive and young females while the not so hot peeps are put on the treadmill and left there for a few minutes.
Cleaning staff: I will say that the cleaning staff (two older ladies) are great, hard working, and friendly. Too bad the rest of the staff lack those qualities.
Front desk: I came in there was only one person up front and she was tending to 3 other customers to the far left (by the exit). She looked at me for a second without so much as a «I’ll be with you in a little bit.» Well I stood there for like 3 minutes before I decided I would just walk on in. It was then she turns and GIVES ME A DIRTY LOOK and says, «I’ll be right with you.» This girl took my card to scan and as I held my hand out to retrieve it from her, she basically threw that shit on the counter. To the girl named DESIREE at the front desk: you are obnoxious and don’t deserve to be dealing with people (Don’t let me catch you in a dark alley… jk… not really… haah.) Also a blonde girl tried tricking me on a towel deal by saying, «We have a free towel upgrade today, would you like to sign-​up?» As I was signing papers she was like, «this is free until October» so naturally I was like, «Oh, how do I cancel it?» She replies with, «Oh, well if you cancel there’s a $ 25 fee.» This trick would never have told me about that fee if I didn’t ask how to cancel the service. If I would have just taken the «free til october» and asked her in october to take it off my account I would have gotten suckered into paying the $ 25. Conniving snakes I tell ya.
