I think the pinnacle of culinary achievement was the creation of the Breakfast Burrito! Sleek and simple in design and the flavor combinations are limitless. That being said, Estrella has one of the best Breakfast Burritos in town!!! They are amazingly flavored and the salsa is bomb!!! I look forward to it each time I decide to go. Also, the empanadas are delicious, my kids tear them up!

The donuts are unassuming and amazing! We had am apple fritter and a crumble donut. Simple diner coffee and chocolate milk. All together under $ 7. Perfect atmosphere to sit and talk, and the early hours are wonderful, esp. When having to get on the road early.

This place is a must try! Its a little hole in the wall. but the baked goods are amazing. Not only do they have all your traditional doughnuts… maple bars, apple fritters, buttermilk… but they have another display case with all Hispanic pastries. Ok ok… here’s the kicker… they also have a small kitchen menu with burgers, tacos, burritos, tortas, and a couple sides. Give this place a shot… whether your looking to get your sweet fix or grab a quick bite to eat, you won’t regret it

Estrella is my go-to place for burritos in the area. I always get one before I sneak it into the theatre around the corner. They’re consistently good, standard refried beans, rice, meat, cilantro, onions, salsa — 50 cents extra for whatever else you want(avocado, sour cream, lettuce, etc.) Their breakfast burritos are decent too, a little salsa slightly mashed into the potatoes with chorizo or whatever meat, topped with cheddar, wrapped in a thin egg patty about the size of the tortilla. I’ve been coming here since I moved to Bakersfield. Very cool family, open really early, but closed on Sundays(which is when I crave them the most).

As I walked in there was people sitting on the tables. I thought to myself I made a good decision this is probably good food. As I stood by the cash register one of the guys sitting down got up I realized they were the owners/workers/family members because they all went to the back. This place needs to focus on cleaning up I could see bills/mail bags of random stuff throughout very unorganized an old piñata hanging from the ceiling. I thought to myself, this is what I can see I don’t want to imagine the back. I got the carne Assada torta… it was ok but nothing that would make me ever want to go back.

My sweet tooth was at it again so I went in search of a donut shop. Had never been to this particular one, so I decided to drop on by. There were a couple of panhandlers outside the shop, but that did not deter me from entering the establishment. The kid who was working was cool and helpful. I noticed they had both Mexican pastries and also regular donuts as well. I did not see any of my favorite donuts or Mexican pastries. So I was a bit disappointed. My «Go To «items are apple fritters and custard filled chocolate donuts. Unfortunately, they were out of both. Since they did not have any of my favorites, I settled on a Chocolate Bar. It was not very impressive. The dough was a bit dry and the chocolate frosting was not the best. It was better than what I’ve tried in grocery stores though. The price was fair for 90 cents. The shop offers a bunch of other food as well. After now reading some of the other reviews, I’ll have to return to try their Mexican food. The tortas sound really good right now. So for now just 3 stars. I have a feeling that the next time I come in, I’ll have to upgrade them to a higher rating. I’ll be more prepared on what to try next.

Mom and I dropped in here to try out the donuts, as it’s just around the corner from Valley Plaza and the Pacific Theaters. We ordered two donuts, a maple glazed with small bits of crunchy peanuts covering it and a custard filled chocolate frosted donut and split them both. The maple was good; it was both fresh and fluffy, but the custard filled was much better. there was a sufficient quantity of creamy custardy filling to provide for both cake and custard in every bite. The pastry part of the donut was neither too dry nor gooey from contact with the custard, essentially a Goldilocks effect — just right. We paid $ 2.10 for both donuts including tax. The signs inside actually refer to this as the Estrella Bakery Café which is a more appropriate name since not only did they carry donuts and a wide variety of Mexican cookies and pastries but carried a full menu of Mexican food and burgers to boot. There were breakfast burritos($ 3.75), quesadillas, tortas, tacos, enchiladas, flautas, and a variety of burgers starting at $ 4.25. The people who work there are very friendly, and even their little girl came out to talk to us. Very nice little mom and pop burger /donut /bakery /Mexican food restaurant!

Only bought end of the day baked goods– YMMV. Came here in the afternoon, wanting something sweet. It’s a Mexican bakery, with of course, donuts. The donuts were good.(Although I’ve never had a bad donut– it seems to be an item with consistent equality). From the side cases, we picked out a few pastries. One was this large«angel heart»(as I call them) cookie. It was nice and flaky and sweet, and big. We also got this apple turnover slice thing. It was good. A downer was this sweet croissant bread thing. Since it was afternoon, it was kind of stale. I think 20 seconds in the microwave would have softened it up though. No flavor problems, but just hard. They also had nice looking conchas, sugar cookies, and various other Mexican pastries I don’t know the name of. For all 4 of the items we picked, it was less than 3.50. Score.
