I *love* this shop and I *love* Carl. There are, indeed, a lot of candles but all of that wild and decorous stuff on the walls is for sale, too. Ya-a-a-ay! The atmosphere is definitely browse at an island pace. Carl’s ready to answer questions but not at all pushy or antsy. There is a marvelous variety of items… well, here, see what I bought for $ 32. It’s almost 2 feet in overall length, stamped metal, painted, from the Pacific Rim. Let me see if I can do this. Rats. Can’t post a picture of my lush, folk-decorated gecko. I knocked a star off only because it’s a bit awkward for a power wheelchair; I was cautious and did fine, but wouldn’t come in with a full load of shopping on the back of my chair.

If you’re into candles, this is a must go-to store. If you’re not into candles, keep right on walkin’. That about sums it up!!! This store is somewhat narrow but it is very deep. Upon entering, you’ll notice that the humongous assortment of candles are grouped by colors, so all the reds are together, all the blues are together, etc. This makes shopping for what you’re looking for a lot easier. There is a long central table that runs from the front of the store to the back, with merchandise on display, for perchase. So this makes for an easy store to navigate, as there is only one aisle to walk, around the perimeter of this long central table. And boy, have they candles galore! Tabers, floating candles, pillars, all colors, scented and not, all shapes, embellished and plain. And candle holders, too! Tea light cups in mercury glass, candelabras, traditional and contemporary candlesticks, wall sconces… you name it, they got it. They also have a nice selection of garden candles, and holiday/XMas candles. I’ve gotten a lot of nice gifts for the holidays here for family and friends. Nice touch, too, that they have complimentary beverages(usually a hot tea) in the rear of the store, Help yourself!

I am so in love with this store. I am surprised it doesn’t have more rave reviews. This is a candle store. If you are looking for something else don’t write a poor review because you went to the wrong place. My first time in here was on Halloween. Downtown has a Trick or Treat at all the businesses and when you go here you actually go into the store and walk through, they have all kids of candles lit and they employees are in costume. It was a very memorable experience with great ambiance. The staff has been accommodating and friendly. You can carry on a conversation with just about anyone in here and you really get a hometown local feel and respect from them. I returned here another time to just browse the selection. On the floor throughout the store they have a large selection of floating candles, don’t forget to look down. Hanging from the ceiling are numerous different candelabras, so beautiful, and the selection is out of this world. They also have carved candles and fun candles shaped like food and animals. The cupcake candles look and smell like real cupcakes. Prices are decent for a top of the line candle shop and sometimes they even have the candle-maker in the store for demonstrations.

Ehhhh, the pamphlet suggested that this store had ‘European goods’. Maybe the candlestick holders are European but we expected more than just candles. Don’t get me wrong, this place is BRIMMING with candles. Overpriced candles but cute candles nonetheless. I’ve definitely experienced better candle stores and I didn’t like the misleading description.

If you like candles, this shop has a lot of choices and accessories for a consumer’s choosing. My review, however, is not based on the shop’s selection and variety but rather the customer service. After taking my parents, who are from out-of-state, here on a visit they had purchased some, somewhat pricey, candlestick holders. This shop was our last stop before leaving the island so they made their purchase and we headed down to the ferry. Upon departure back to Seattle, my mom pulled out the candlestick holder to look at her recent purchase only to find that it was broken in two. The bubble wrap that was wrapped around the broken candlestick was completely deflated on one side. Being that everyone was upset because there was no way to go back to the shop and one of the nice new candlestick holders was broken, my wife immediately called the shop. Carl answered the phone and started by telling my wife that he would replace the broken item. He then began to back-pedal and state that he’ll «take a look at it and see what he can do.» By the end of the conversation we still had the understanding from Carl that if we were to return the item he would replace it. First thing the following day we packaged the broken item and shipped it to the store. My wife called to let the shop know that we were sending it and to confirm the replacement only to have Carl state that he would not replace it. Carl then stated that he could only give a 30% discount on a replacement… after we had already spent what would be our 30% discount on shipping. My wife called me upset about the ordeal so I called Carl myself. Carl proceeded to reiterate that he would not be replacing the item because he had been packaging items for 6 years and never heard of such a thing. He continued to inform me that he has a «certain amount invested» in his shop and would not be replacing our item even though we had already paid for the item, paid for return shipping and shipped it to him. He then informed me that the best he could do is sell a new one to us for $ 20 when it was a $ 32 item. Based off of customer service alone, I would never recommend this shop to anyone. From having called within 5 minutes of our purchase and being told that we could get a replacement to being told that we’d essentially have to pay for another one once all said and done is quite ridiculous. Especially for a business that prides itself on being a unique, community/visitor friendly shop. It felt as if Carl was using the remote location of his shop as more of a reason not to accommodate his customers. One item that could have been easily replaced with a small monetary hit for the shop could have saved them a big hit in reputation.
