Specialties
Bainbridge Arts & Crafts is a gallery specializing in contemporary Northwest art and craft. We also provide art education to children and adults throughout the year.
In our main gallery and in our two special exhibition galleries, we show handmade works of art by more than 260 local and regional Northwest artists. Mediums include but aren’t limited to painting, sculpture, prints, photography, glass, ceramics, and jewelry.
We mount at least one special exhibition each month and hold artists’ receptions on the first Friday of each month during downtown Winslow’s First Friday Art Walk.
We offer classes and workshops throughout the year including at least one free gallery talk or artist demonstration each month.
We are also a nonprofit gallery, which means we put every bit of our income toward our mission: to encourage the creation and appreciation of fine contemporary art and craft by exhibiting and selling the work of Northwest artists, and by offering art education to a county-wide audience of all ages.
History
Established in 1948.
Bainbridge Arts & Crafts has a proud history as the first visual arts organization on Bainbridge Island and one of the very first in Washington State. In 1948, a group of island artists determined that despite their rural locale and relative distance from each other, they wanted to produce art and craft as a community, not in isolation. These artists came together to share ideas, resources, information, and of course, their work. In 1958 Bainbridge Arts & Crafts was formally incorporated and obtained nonprofit status.
After 66 years, our original artists’ pioneering vision continues through our exhibitions, gallery programs, community art education, and support for art in the schools.
