The Original Ghost Tours of Catalina

My fiancée and I took this tour, and it was just the two of us. Mason was our tour guide and he was amazing! He made it very fun for the both of us. There’s a lot of ghost stuff around here! lol Thank you again, Mason!

3.5 stars. Entertaining and a fun way to spend an hour or so on the island. Our guide was Mason, who was very pleasant and informative. Although we later discovered that much of what he said was bs, it was still entertaining. Overall, I recommend the tour. Check groupon for better rates!

We did the tour this past Sunday and our tour guide Cory made it fun & exciting.
Great thing to do on an evening in the island!

My boyfriend and I did this tour last night. What a scam… and waste of money. Basically you walk around and they point out supposedly haunted places. We werent allowed to go inside any of these places, we couldnt even stand right outside them, we had to be like a block down. He provided no names of these people who supposably historically have been on the island. He told us we were going to an indian burial ground… we literally ended up crowded around the sewer lid, he told us this was the burial ground… lol. No joke the whole group we were with were pissed we paid for such a crappy tour. People even left mid tour. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!

Constance was fun and engaging. Got to learn a little bit of island history and deaths that have occurred. Not to sure how valid the «ghost stories» were, but fun nevertheless to try something new. Also, you get to walk around the island a bit.

Our tour guide was cute and a local so it made the tour more interesting to hear local stories. However, many of the stories were not true and I didn’t particularly get scared on the tour. I was expecting myself to be super scared and not being able to sleep at night but this was not the case.
We purchased a groupon so it was an ok price but I don’t think we would do this tour again because of the fake stories. However, this was great with passing the time since we didn’t really have anything planned that night on the island.

I was really excited about this — my boyfriend and I like to go on ghost tours and this one had pretty good reviews. Cory was our tour guide as well, but I just don’t get the rave reviews. He’s very nice and personable, but he speaks really fast and on this particular night he seemed to be really nervous or unprepared. He spent a lot of time rambling on about things that didn’t have anything to do with Catalina or ghosts and made lots of asides that were supposed to be humorous. He rushed through his stories and facts and his speech was filled with lots of fillers (I think he said «ladies and gentlemen» every other word), so the stories couldn’t build and I just felt like I was hearing rushed through facts. It was like 30% story and 70% randomness. I don’t believe in ghosts, but on other ghost tours you at least felt a little freaked out or felt like you learned something interesting from the stories, but neither happened during this tour. My boyfriend and I felt like we were just waiting around to really hear about something. The hour was fun, but mostly because of random encounters with locals, not because this was a well lead tour. Others really loved Cory though, and he does have a fun personality. He said he was in training, but there was no one there to watch him, so I don’t know how he is really being trained. I think if you get a good tour guide, this could be fun, but the experience I had really missed the mark.

Terrible overpriced tour that ends in a dark park. O.k. for kids but most of the history and ghost stories are made up. Probably scary for 8 year Olds but adults will be bored and some annoyed at false Island history, for example the Tongva Indians are not descended from the Mongolians. Only interesting parts are pointing out old building and the Wrigley mansion, which you can look up on a map a lot cheaper. Most of the locals laugh at you when walking around like there go more suckers!

My daughter & I took this tour on our recent trip to Catalina. Cory was our guide and, as it was our first tour of our vacation, he set the bar for all of the other tours we did afterward. He set the bar quite high as he was very engaging, funny and informative. (As a side note, I was particularly impressed with his vocabulary. Clearly he is a well read, intelligent young man.)
Cory is what made the tour as fun as it was. Nothing was particularly scary and no paranormal activity of any kind was witnessed during our walk. But the history that we learned was fascinating and at least one of the stories he told was true — we Google’d it after the tour. (I won’t give away which story it was.)
We thought it was well worth the price ($ 20 ea) for an hour of educational fun and walking.

Cory was our tour guide, he was informative and captivating the whole time. We had such a fun time listening to the stories and getting to walk around the island and learn a little history as well. It was long enough to be fun and short enough to keep everyone entertained. Loved it!

Cory did an amazing job tonight. He made a few jokes. I really enjoyed it and I recommend it.
On my last year ghost tour I had a terrible older lady she said words like «hammered» she was referring to being drunk, she was terrible we just left the tour to go to the arcade.

Cory did a great job and really engaged us in the history and cool fun facts about the island. This is a fun walking tour, I highly recommend it to anyone that just likes to have a good time. This review has nothing to do with him having the same name as me either, but that is cool. lol

A very overpriced gimmick. A lot of walking and not very scary. Cory did his best to tell the made up ghost stories interesting. They no longer give out glow necklaces or the little emp (?) machines which was disappointing. They also advertised that the Natalie Wood mystery would be part of the info and
Tour but was never mentioned. He left us in a dark park late at night at the end of the tour which wasn’t very safe I felt. Overall was disappointing. I did however feel Cory was entertaining and engaging with the info he gave and tried his best to involve everyone.

Cory was our ghost tour guide tonight. I think it was only his second tour but he did a fantastic job. He’s knowledgeable, engaging, and funny. The stories were interesting and mysterious. The group I was in was larger than I expected (20 people) so if I got stuck in the back, it was difficult to hear the tour guide over all the gas powered golf carts and the people passing by and talking (or yelling at cory to tease him). My only suggestions for this activity is 1. (If possible) More specific on names, dates, and locations and 2. Don’t allow tour attendees to bring food. I had a woman next to me eating jellybeans out of the loudest plastic bag ever and she was eating loudly too. It was distracting. Other than that, my mom and I had a great time! Thank you Cory :)

Mason took a my and my friends on an awesome tour of Avalon last weekend! He was very knowledgeable and well spoken and fun! The tour was a great blend of local history and lore. It was fun and informative regardless of whether or not you believe in the supernatural. We all are looking forward to taking the tour again next time we visit!

Great tour with the charming and knowledgeable Mason — we had so much fun getting to know the history of Avalon through his stories (much better than the Casino museum or tour!) even in February, when a nighttime stroll around the harbour is not the most enticing option. Would recommend!

Constance was our guide. She was a sweet heart. Answered all our questions, very patient, provided us with a lot of history about the island about murders that took place on the island and their residing spirits and bodies being dug up from old tribes, etc. very informative. If you like history or paranormal activity, you will like it! Something fun to do and priced well!

Very factual, non dramatized, fun tour. It was funny because a lot of locals were out by that time at night and would make scary laughs or howling sounds when they went by our ghost group. I’m from LA and our locals are not nearly as endearing in the way they disrupt tour groups.
Our tour guide Constance (i think) was adorable. She provided tons of info on history of strange and also tragic deaths, some old, some more recent. One of her stories was from 2001, and a couple who were staying in the hotel from the story looked it up online and discovered the murder actually happened in their room. That was a fun add-​on to the tour. Constance also congratulated my husband and I for staying in the Glenmore, one of the most haunted places on the island.
I liked how Constances stories on this tour could all be backed up by numerous articles online, as I am an avid ghost lover AND giant skeptic.
I put a couple of pictures, I was taking pics of a dark window on the tour and later noticed some strange blob in the window in one of the pics. Judge for yourself.

She knows EVERYTHING about the paranormal on this gorgeous island it seems… she’s great!
If you love history, walking at night, and beautiful scenery… then this is a great way to spend an evening.

What fun memories this ghost tour was! If you’re looking for a genuinely scary, bone chilling, can’t-sleep-without-a-light-on-tonight type of ghost tour, this is NOT for you! Everyone in our tour group were either laughing our behinds off, or just really interested in some of the «history» told during the tour. I put those in quotes because I’m not sure what’s real and what’s not (do not know my history at all).
We called to book our tour and met up at the meet-​up spot on time. Everyone who’s part of the tour is given a glow-​necklace and told to take as many pictures as possible so that we could «capture some paranormal activities, like orbs and what not.» Even our tour guide was snapping pictures like crazy during the tour.
The tour guide (can’t remember his name), was so laid back, chill and I swear he looked like he just finished surfing. We went around Avalon and were we had a really fun time! He tried to be pumped up for our tour and tried to tell some jokes along the way. Tried. He was pretty fun.
So the after effect is the really neat part (and the reason why this review is 4 stars instead of 3). My girl friends and I weren’t scared at all during the tour, but when we got back to our room, and as it became later and later, everything started to become scary! We heard random sounds from empty spaces, we found it difficult to use the restroom or shower. Eventually, 5 of us (we were supposed to sleep in 2 different rooms) squeezed into one room for the rest of the nights of our stay.
